Poor Service. Unprofessional. With so many options in New York, you can certainly do better.

They were super nice. I gave them a pair of sunglasses and asked them to put my very slight prescription in it and switch out the lenses. They said it would take a week. Monday comes around. I called, it's delayed. They said Wednesday. I called. Probably tomorrow. I called Thursday. They said probably tomorrow. It's Friday. Haven't heard anything yet, but on that chance I do and I get them back, this service itself was crap. read more

The only reason I didn't give this place 1 star is because the eye doctor was nice and efficient. The customer service rep, however, was awful. Based on the incompetent and abysmal service alone, I will never be returning to this place. I cannot believe other people are giving this place 5 stars. I advise anyone with an FSA to avoid this place like the plague -- she doesn't seem to really care about helping you get your documentation after getting your money (which, by the way, like other reviews have said, they charge you the full price upfront before delivery, which I have never seen before at any place. The cost charged upfront was also multiple hundreds of dollars even with insurance, which is absolutely ridiculous and something I have never seen before). Here's an additional experience: I asked MULTIPLE times for an itemized receipt (once during purchase, once after purchase, once during pickup, and more than once after pickup), and got either an excuse (they're "busy", they sent it to me but I somehow never got it) or a promise that was never fulfilled ("I'll send it to you later today", "I'll send it to you when you pick it up"). At some point, you have to think that they're just lying to you, wanting you to go away, and hoping that you never call them on the sheer incompetence. I have never seen such boldfaced and obvious lies from a customer service person. After this experience, I wouldn't trust this person to handle anything, let alone my eyeware order -- in fact, if I owned this place, I would have fired them long ago. And to top it all off, the process of getting a receipt is stuck in the stone ages. I had to write down my email address a second time on paper when I came to pick up the order even though I gave it already when I first ordered the glasses. Did she lose the record? Subsequently, they gave me some excuse of having sent the receipt already when I was quite sure that nothing landed in my inbox. They didn't seem to have any problems sending me the non-itemized receipt without problems when they got their money. Convenient how it worked perfectly the first time, but when they have nothing to gain from me, suddenly it's such a pain to get things right. Then, I asked for the rep to confirm the email address and she outright refused, citing a BS excuse of busyness (funny how I've been to other eyeware stores during the holidays and have never had a problem). I have never seen such an incompetent and unhelpful service rep in my entire life. Based on my bottom of the barrel customer experience alone, I sincerely hope this place goes out of business. They don't deserve to succeed if this is how they treat a first time customer. read more

I called three times for an itemized receipt to submit a claim and each time they tell me they're going to send it over "right away" and the last time I called they told me they "send all the emails at the end of the day" and that I'd get it by 5pm. Yet I've received nothing. read more

If you care about customer service and honest vendors do not come here. I came in on a Friday and was promised glasses the Tuesday after the weekend. I never heard from them on Tuesday. I called that Thursday and this agent told me that they wouldn't be ready until Saturday because I had a complicated prescription. LIES. My prescription is as basic as you can get. Plus,they had just checked my eyes and knew the prescription when I was given the Tuesday date. I asked her to have one of the owners call me. I never heard from either owner. Did I get my glasses on Saturday or even a call? NO. To add insult to injury, they made me pay 100% ($650) up front. I have never paid more than 50% until I got my glasses. Nor have I ever dealt with opticians who are dishonest. If, despite this, you need to come to this business, do not pay them the full amount when you place your order. read more

Exceeded all my expectations. Excellent service. I got my eye exam this week and the Optometrist figured out momentarily my vision issue. The exam was great and Roman helped me to pick a beautiful pair of new eyeglasses and a prescription sunglasses and I received a great discount fort second pair . Highly recommended! A friend recommended Roman to me. I phoned ahead to ensure he knew I needed to use my insurance and that I had a hereditary eye pathology which would require more time to garner a satisfactory result. Roman seems to have satisfactory social skills and assured me they could handle my condition. They could not. The optician only did the most cursory exam. The left eye (which is the afflicted) was only examined for less than 30 seconds before he concluded that there would be no solution forthcoming from them. I have never had a more unsatisfactory or more unprofessional consult. The worst of it is that my insurance only pays for one examination/year--so now I cannot have a new prescription for ANOTHER YEAR!!!!! If you have any complicated optical issues--this is not the place for you. read more

I went to Michael's because it was on my health insurance list of approved providers for glasses. Marcella was helping another customer when I went in so I silently stood there waiting for her to finish. Meanwhile another woman came in after me and also stood there waiting. Everyone was aware of who came in first. However, when Marcella was finished with the customer, instead of helping me, a non- white woman, she directly asked the white woman who came in after me what she needed. I did not say anything because I thought perhaps she just wanted to see whether this woman had a quick question and then would assist me since I was next. But no, she helped this woman and completely ignored me. I was debating whether to leave but I was having a difficult time finding a store which accepted my insurance and I did want to find out whether Michael's did or not. So I continued to wait while she helped this other customer who came in after me. Finally I saw an employee come out from the back and Marcella who was clearly in charge did not ask her to help me, so I approached her and asked if they took my insurance. She checked on the computer and they did. I showed her my prescription and asked her to show me some suitable frames. We spent some time looking at frames and Marcella was still helping the customer who came in before me and when I left she was still helping this woman. I do not like to play the race card, but I cannot think of another reason for the treatment that I received from Marcella so just as an FYI to others. read more

I absolutely love this spot. Roman is wonderful! He is so so nice and patient, he only wants you to have what you want, he's not pushy at all! Very fun and easy to communicate with! During Covid his business was closed down for a long time and he was still able to get me print copies of my contact prescription and my eye glasses one too! I've been coming to them for 5 years and referred many people to him. Would recommend them to anyone I know! Since I spend many hours every day in front of a screen, I needed anti blue light glasses. Michael answered all my questions patiently, educated me about blue light, and helped me pick the most effective blue light glasses. He tested the glasses at the store with a real blue light and explained very well why he recommend them. I recently was in New York for the TriBeCa Film Festival. I usually travel with and extra set of contact lenses, but after both pairs ripped- I only had one good lens. I needed to see the premiere of the film I was apart of! I searched optical boutiques in the area and Michael's optical was one of the first to pop up. BAIT AND SWITCH! After promising "laser digital lenses" from europe the glasses never worked well. I took them to two other opticiens and was told they were GENERIC LENSES. MIchael replaced them again and they were still generic, very low quality and not what he represented. I told my eye doctor and he said he stopped using Michael's Optical because of multiple patient complaints of OVERCHARGING and POOR QUALITY. If you have been unfortunate enough to be tricked here, take your glasses to a reputable optometrist and make sure you have received what you paid for. Tell-tale signs are poor reading quality, easily scratched lenses, lenses that don't resist getting greasy at all. I wanted to support a small business but feel bad that this place contributes to a sketchy stereotype for other small businesses. BUYER BEWARE. -contacted by the owner. I went to them because of their recent Groupon deal. There were four of us waiting. Two of us had appointments for 6:30, and two for 6:45pm. The doctor anticipated spending less than ten minutes with each of us and went ahead and overbooked us. He never tested me for glaucoma or did a pressure test. He just had me read from a chart and even though I kept saying I couldn't read the chart, he eventually decided my new prescription was the exact same as my old prescription. I kept telling him I can't see in my old glasses, and his response was "that might be the best anyone can do for you and you just won't be able to see any better." When I started to cry (because who likes to be told that they'll never be able to read a street sign again) he told me I should leave because he had other customers. The next guy was in and out of his office in under ten minutes. I would never recommend going there to any of my friends. It felt like a scam. I'm certainly going to get a second opinion. Their bathroom was also incredibly dirty with no paper towels or any clean way to remove contact lenses before an exam. Worst eye appointment I've ever had, and I've had glasses since I was five. read more

This is a great business. Romeo helped me select the PERFECT pair of eye glasses to complement my face. Because Michael's Optical doesn't accept my vision plan (Empire), Romeo and his assistant Albert were generous in helping me work out a deal for the frames and lenses that was competitive with what my insurance company would have offered were they in-network. After receiving my prescription, they had my glasses ready to pick up within a day. The lenses are better than any I've owned before - beautifully transparent, smudge and glare free. These guys are great. Very helpful. I found a pair of frames I liked but wasn't sure of the color and they ordered me the frame in a few other colors to try. When my lenses came in first, they said I could take them in the original color and changed them when the order arrived. Of course I started liking how I looked in the original color (pink) even though I'm not a color person. The lenses which are HD progressives are sharp and clear and non reflective. And they helped to make sure that I'm seeing out the the lenses the way i should be, that they are aligned correctly which is important with progressives so you don't get distortion. The prices are decent and the frame selection is there is quality. These are the best quality frames I've owned so far. Thanks guys. read more

After you pay top dollar to the store for the best lenses, how do you know you are getting the lenses you paid for and not lower quality lenses. CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY OR IF NO INSURANCE ASK THE STORE FOR THE NAME OF THE COMPANY MAKING YOUR LENSES AND CHECK WITH THEM AFTER YOU RECEIVE YOUR GLASSES. If the store refuses to give you the name, go to another store. Roman told me there was a $25 copay for bifocals under my insurance policy, WRONG, no copay. I paid him $140 (additional patient responsibility) for ULTRA top quality progressive lenses where I was told by Davis Vision he ordered the lower tier PREMIER lenses $95 (additional patient responsibility) . I showed him verification by Davis Vision where he gave me $45 back and he falsely blamed Davis Vision for their error. It was not a Davis Vision error as they verified to me later. The sharp vision zone of the middle and reading lenses was unsatisfactory ( too narrow) where Roman wouldnt have the lenses redone unless I ordered the ULTRA lenses I originally ordered and give back the $45. I refused. I will go elsewhere. IN RESPONSE TO YOUR COMMENT: No, there is no understanding. You ordered PREMIUM lenses and not ULTRA lenses which I paid for. Davis Vision verified that fact. No error on their part. You also claimed there was a $25 copay for bifocals with my insurance plan, when in fact there is no copay with my insurance plan, whose fault is that? It appears you are a wise guy so I suggest you dont screw any more clients charging for Ultra lenses and providing lower tier lenses keeping the difference for yourself and blaming other people. That is fraud. If you are ever investigated due to a clients complaint and there are more than three similar "errors' on your part with your clients that is a pattern which will initiate criminal action. You received the paperwork from Davis Vision showing a $95 charge for the lenses even though you collected $140 from me yet you never called me to tell me there was an error. Your assistant was informed by Davis Vision of the discrepancy yet you said nothing to me in your store until I brought it up where you put on a surprised look. I DONT LIKE PEOPLE SCREWING ME!!!! Screwing people with a smile and a nice disposition doesnt impress a District Attorney. read more

Best experience ever at an optical store! Michael provided me with such amazing service and special care. I brought in a pair of vintage sunglasses that are one of a kind and beyond special to me (my grandfather was an optometrist and sold out of these in the '40's). These were the last pair. I needed to get the lenses replaced for years but wouldn't take them just anywhere- walked in and it of so many places. Since the, I never looked back at the chain optical store I had been going to for about 10 years. The service at Michael's Optical is consistently exceptional and friendly. Sleaze ball sales techniques, pushing customers to get the most expensive frames. Never listened to what I was really looking for just kept trying to give me the same pair of glasses I already owned, "because this is what looks good" then offered a payment plan for the glasses, and put me on the phone with someone asking me if I was trying to open a line of credit. The optometrist was pleasant and I enjoyed my conversation with him, but once on the sales floor it solidified that I would never purchase something from such an establishment. Cheesy pick up lines included! I think every woman who walked in to the store had the salesman's "favorite name" save the bad pick up lines for the trashy dive bars. read more

The personalized service and desire to accommodate a customer on a moment's notice is extraordinary. Roman, one of the owners, attends to his customers with a level of professionalism and care that the larger optical houses often don't have time for.
