I am here for Baked Goods! Especially salt bread. I have been searching the world for best salt bread. Hands down Seoul but Singapore has some good ones too. Next weekend I am in Tokyo via Singapore and Jakarta. Plan to visit the original shio pan at Pain Maison in Ginza.
I came here for the salt bread but ended up with many other goodies.
Salt bread is an intro version to Bay Area - it is reminiscent of Paris Baguette in Gangnam Seoul. I would probably wanted it to be crunchier, saltier, and softer instead. But I am a tough audience - having been scouring the world for it.
I am also a fan of Concha, having spent way too much time in Mexico City sampling conchas. This place hits the spot for concha.
Yet to be tried but clearly a winner is the pretzel with hot dogs!
But wait, the southern bread aka southern croissant was ready and it is even better. I wondered if it is as good as Arsicult Bakery. But clearly different - more like a bread roll but crunchier. Get that!!
Chatted with the lady (I assumed she was Korean American and clearly the brain behind the operation given Asian women always are), she said she goes to Korea annually. Korea clearly has the best and mostest Salt Bread, I am confident they will get better. Pls set up a Korean style bakery in the east bay with five thousand salt bread options!
I am a happy camper. Leaving for Singapore Jakarta Tokyo tonight to continue my search for shio pan aka salt bread. This place hit the spot before I go! read more
