My massage with Marsha was seriously heavenly. I first came here two years ago when I was super stressed, and had an hour-long session with Marsha. I left the salon so relaxed that my eyes couldn't focus long enough for me to be able to call my Uber to get back home. I came home like a limp noodle and soooooooooo relaxed. You could have literally set all my things on fire, and I would not have cared; that was the level of relaxed I was. I came back yesterday for a quick pamper, again with Marsha. I feel so much less tension and tightness today, even though the session was more focused on aromatherapy and a nice scrub for my hands and feet. Before beginning, she always asks if anything in particular is bothering me so she could work on it, which I really appreciate. And boy did she! Now that I have felt the benefits and am ready to make this investment into my well being and health, I'll be purchasing a massage package here. Before coming to this salon, I was really skeptical of the benefits of massage because I heard so many friends and family say it didn't do much for them. Well, that's only because they've never had Marsha work on them. Do yourself a favor and try this place out; you won't regret it! On October 20th, I was scheduled for a silk press with Ngina at 9am. Upon arriving, Ngina was working with two customers and told another stylist, Nia, to take care of me since their next appointment wouldn't arrive until 9:30am. When Nia began to wash my hair, she lacked enthusiasm and professionalism and seem bothered that she was doing my hair. During the washing process, she detangled my natural hair from root to tip, instead of tips to root. When asking for her expert advice, she provided lackluster responses and was unexcited to help with some of my requests (wrapping, pin curling). When her 9:30 appointment arrived, she went to assist her, while I sat with wet hair for 45 mins (windows in the shop were open too). No sincere apologies or assistance were provided while I waited for her. When she finally returned, she blow dried and flat ironed my hair and gave me a cut. The style was okay--very bland. She had an attitude when I asked for some additional body or curl. When I went home, I was able to saran wrap my hair and sit under the dryer, which provided better results. Its been three weeks since my visit to Studio Chique and now my I am experiencing some heat damage. If I were you, I'd avoid this place. This establishment lacks professionalism and decent common courtesy. In addition, based on their behavior, it seems they prefer a certain type of client--definitely not they ladies with 4c hair. read more

I just had a wonderful massage with Marsha. Additionally, I just moved to DC from Chicago last week and my google calendar didn't sync up with the new time change, so I didn't realize I was going to be late for my 3 pm massage. The receptionist was pretty nice about the whole thing and said I could come in at 3:30 with no problem. The rooms were well decorated, perfect temperature, and very clean. Marsha did a wonderful job kneading out the knots in my shoulders and calves from lifting heavy boxes and furniture from this weekend. I will definitely be coming back to see her! read more

I came to Studio Chique wth a Groupon for a 60 minute massage and Marsha was amazing. She knows what she is doing and she went to war with the muscle knots in my back, which is exactly what I needed. Felt like a sports massage. I felt a lot of relief from the tightness and soreness there. The rest of the massage was great, too, but I really appreciated the relief and loosening of muscles in my upper back. The full price is very reasonable for an hour's service and since I felt immediate results, I will definitely go back to Marsha. The spa rooms are on the third floor. You access on the second and it's part of a salon. I must have looked puzzled at first but everyone was friendly, professional, and helpful. read more

I was pleased with my cut and style immediately after getting my hair done, but my hair started breaking a week or so after I got a relaxer here. The service was very fast, and staff was attentive, helpful, and kind. Prices are too high, so I definitely won't be returning. (Also, I'm natural now, so no more relaxers). read more

It's easy to make an appointment, but apparently it's difficult for the receptionist to get your name correct. When I called to change the appointment time, the receptionist told me that there was no appointment under my name and just made me a new one for my requested time. I showed up at my appointment time, was told that I did not have an appointment. But it turns out that the receptionist wrote down the wrong name for both appointments. Eventually this got sorted out. I was 15 minutes late to my appointment because I had to visit the ATM for cash for tipping. I thought I would get a decent length massage since I booked a 90 minute session-even with my tardiness I would get 75 minutes worth. However, the masseuse told me that they stop the massages 10 minutes before the end time to give the customers time to change and for them to exchange the sheets prior to the next client. So, this left me with 65 minutes of what ended up being mediocre massage time. I ended up tipping her a few dollars less than what I planned on, since I only got a 65 minute massage. There was an issue checking out with the receptionist who I found to be very argumentative and rude. I would not visit this place again. read more

I recently left my hairstylist due to her lacking creativity and her need to over charge me for some odd reason(tear). I Googled and found this place and of course I read the reviews and after I was convinced this place should be a good start to search for a good Salon again! I arrived and waited about 40 minutes before I was shampooed :( but I guess it was worth it she used some tingly stuff which felt good and a deep conditioner which was great....I later got seated under the steamer :) for no additional charge. I waited awhile before I got seen which seems to always be the case at hair salons...but she was very fast and she did a VERY good job....She used good quality products and she was priced very reasonable and I got compliments all day long (don't hate....lol) I will be returning!!! read more

Hair salons are hit or miss depending on your stylist so having a bad styling experience to me doesn't always warrant a review. I am writing this review because after reading all the other reviews I was hoping for an upscale hair salon regardless of how my hair turned out. Also since I paid an upscale price (80 for silk press and a 20 dollar tip) I felt like someone else might benefit from hearing my experience before booking an appointment. Styling Experience: After a mediocre shampoo job (shampoo girl arrived late so the receptionist washed my hair btw she was the only friendly employee at Salon Chique) the stylist came to retrieve me from under the dryer. Forgive me because I don't remember my stylist's name...well truth be told she probably didn't share it because she wasn't welcoming or friendly. In fact it was almost if she was doing me a favor by styling my hair. So I sit in her chair and she immediately begins with "Are you stressed?" "Do you have a medical condition?" In my head I am thinking: Ummm are you an M.D. or a cosmetologist? I explain to her that I recently had Senegalese twist removed and wanted a professional cut and handling of my delicate strands. She again asked me this time very loudly and in an almost disgusted tone if I had a medical condition. She then said I have major thinning in the crown of my head and should probably go with a pixie. Ha! I declined her suggestion and asked that she just blend in the damaged hair retaining as much length and possible. I ended up with a chin length bob straightened in a similar manner as a dominican salon. With no extra care or delicate treatment but with a lot more coins exchanged. The idea that you get/don't get what you pay for will be explained below. Salon Ambience/Upscale Experience: Salon Chique has a slightly better aesthetic than your average salon but the customer service is lacking. There was no friendliness, no hair care advice or suggested products, and absolutely no professionalism within the salon. I don't mind shop banter and actually enjoy it but upscale means I don't have to listen to my stylists complain about how hungry she is, how late she was out, or wait while she places her breakfast order etc. In addition to that the owner and master stylist sees her clients above the regular shop presumably because she doesn't want to hear the ruckus and complaints of the stylists in her employ. From what I gathered she does however dictate the music played in the "bottom salon". The stylists complained ad nauseam about the Christian music being played on a Saturday. As a customer I also found the music off putting. It was almost like Christian Disney music. No gospel, no smooth jazz or as the stylists suggested Bun Bee(?) *rolls eyes*. In short Salon Chique is overpriced, full of unprofessional stylists and doesn't offer the upscale experience it totes on its website and in the reviews here on Yelp. read more

I had a great experience getting my hair done on 5/30 when Studio Chique re-opened post-COVID shutdown. Prior to my appointment, I was sent an email with the precautions that they were taking and what I could expect when I arrived. They also have a text service for any questions leading up to the appointment. During my appointment the staff cleaned regularly, practiced social distancing, and overall made me feel like I was in a clean and safe environment. One client tried to remove her mask during her appointment and she was politely asked to put it back on which shows they are going above and beyond. I have been going to Studio Chique for 4 years and recommend them to everyone! read more

The receptionist at this salon is incredibly rude and doesn't know what she is doing. It's clear that she doesn't care about customer satisfaction, she's just there for her hourly wage. First, I booked an appointment for a Facial on Tuesday, Dec. 27th and when I showed up I was told that Tynisha, the esthetician had cancelled her appointments that day. I was never called or sent an email saying that my appointment had to be rescheduled. The receptionist was so nonchalant about it like, "Oh well". Then, I called and asked to speak to Tynisha about a week later to ask her about some products she had suggested I purchased. Got the receptionist who told me she'd pass on the message and have her call me back, but I never got a call back. Lastly, today I called to make an appointment using a Groupon and was told I couldn't use it because it wasn't my first time at their spa. Well, there's no mention of that in the fine print of the Groupon. When I called Groupon for a refund they told me that they've been having issues with this vendor and would be launching an investigation. So I'm done with this vendor, once I get my refund I'm taking my business elsewhere! read more

I've been wearing my hair natural for just about 4 years now. I am always terrified of going to salons to have anything done to my hair, but I finally reached the point where I knew I needed a professional cut. I'm actually in the DC area for an internship and happened to find Studio Chique based on other reviews and because it's close to where I am staying. I stopped in and met with Octavia for a consultation about having my hair cut. She was very friendly and confident that she could handle my hair. I came back a couple days later for my appointment and I could not be happier. Octavia took the time to cut my hair perfectly, and now my fro looks better than ever! I highly recommend! read more

It's all fun and games until you say you don't like your hair. I went to studio chique because of the awesome reviews I read on yelp. I wanted to have color done so I went in for a consultation. It's Friday evening and it's busy and I'm ok with that. I sat and waited for the stylist to come to do the consultation. I tell her what I want and brought in a picture to show her exactly how I wanted my hair. She showed me the book of color and told me to pick the color because the lighting in pictures sometimes show a different color. -_- I've had my hair colored at salons before and no one has ever handed me a coloring book to pick my color. That should've been my signal to go. I was getting impatient and decided to just get a wash and set and leave. She talked me into getting the color. So I assumed she knew what she was doing. NOT!!! I asked for chestnut blonde and she gave me platinum blonde streaks all over. My ends were not trimmed. It was awful. Let me take that back.. The color was done ok but it was not what I asked for. She told me it'll take some time to get used to it. And if I want to tone it down I can come back and she'll fix it. Ok cool. I go home and wake up the next day and I still don't like my hair color. So I called her and as soon as she heard why I was calling, she passed the phone to her "supervisor" ( her fake supervisor that is the lady who rents the chair next to her; ps I'm not stupid, I recognized your voice) and she told me that I "spent an astronomical amount of time deciding what I wanted" and long story short I wasted their time. The "supervisor" then calls me back after they agreed that I can come get the color toned down that same day at noon. I had prior arrangements and I couldn't make it. I'm glad I never went back because if you couldn't get it right the first time, I don't need you playing in my hair a second time even if it would be free. After all that attitude I got over the phone, I wouldn't feel comfortable walking back in there anyway. I rather pay that money again and have it done right. Thanks but no thanks. I wouldn't refer anyone I love to this salon especially not to anyone on that first door coming up the stairs where the barbershop is. read more

I absolutely love this salon. They did a great job helping me transition from a perm to natural hair without having to do the "big chop". I go every two weeks however my stylist gave me great tips to help me keep my hair looking nice on the inbetween weeks. They are into hair care and healthy hair. I have found this shop to be a jewel. I came in wanting to do the DevaCurl transformation, and after talking with Nia about my hair and what I wax trying to accomplish, we went doing Flexi Curls. I have been curious about the style and this was my first tie getting them. Nia is sweet and funny. She was easy to talk too and knew what I was trying to say that I wanted for my hair (I was having trouble saying it, but she understood). The staff is friendly and approachable. They also have waxing services and while there I had my eyebrows done as well as my underarms since they use the hard wax which I prefer. Brittany was super sweet and creates a very relaxing environment. I've already made my next appointment for my hair in 2 weeks with Nia and Brazilian with Brittany. The atmosphere is cozy, chic and clean. Parking will be the only issue but that's more of a DC issue that I'm starting to get used to lol. I was very impressed with Studio Chique, I received a Brazilian wax by Tynisha on April 13th and I have to say it minimal pain. upon entering the shop I was greeted by the gentleman at the front desk and he was very friendly and cordial. I only had to wait about 3 mins and I was lead upstairs to waxing area. Tynisha made me feel right at home, was very professional and talked me through the whole process. I can tell by her precision and accuracy that she was not exaggerating about waxing for over 20 years. BEWARE!!!! WORST BRAZILIAN BIKINI WAX OF MY LIFE! The esthetician used hard wax even after I asked her to use the soft wax with the strips. She did not even ask if it was okay, she just slathered it on. Then, instead of pulling the wax away from my skin, she picked at it. The wax itself took close to 45 minutes and we did not even finish because I was in too much pain and she suggested we stop service!! I have been getting Brazilian waxes every 4-6 weeks for 7 years and have never felt pain this bad in my life! I asked her if we could finish since we were halfway done but she refused. I asked if I could have a refund, and she said no. I insisted and then she said she would pay me from her own pocket. She gave me a partial refund in cash. She then proceeded to stay in the room while I put my clothes back on. It's over I still have a good amount of hair down there and she left me to fend for myself and pick the remaining wax out. Not to mention the entire time they were playing Gospel music... Overall an incredibly uncomfortable experience. Please do not ever go here for a wax. read more

Had an appt on June 29th. I don't really feel one way or the other about this experience. Her shop is located in a cute little apartment in DC. The shop is super cute and super clean! I was very happy about that. Her assistant washed my hair. Thank goodness that I already deep conditioned and did a keratin treatment on my self because I felt like about two drops of conditioner was placed on my hear before my complimentary steam treatment. After the treatment the assistant rinsed me and proceeded to "detangle" my hair. That was not a good experience. She was raking through my tightly curled hair with no regard. And it was not completely detangled. Then she begins to blow my hair out (with no heat protectant) that was still partially tangled. Again she was just raking through my hair with no regard. There were instances where I watched her force through tangles instead of putting the dryer down and detangling with her fingers (or something). It wasn't a good experience. When I got into Ngina's chair, I required more blow-drying (still with no protectant). Then a few drops of some silkening something or another was placed on my hair and my hair was straightened with a hot comb. My hair is so fine, it does not require that at all; it can straighten like silk with a flat iron. And because a hot comb does not style hair, I still had have heat passed through it a second time with flat iron to provide style. So far, It appears that she did a good job at trimming my hair. Overall, I'm not sure if I will return, but if I do, I will request to detangle and possibly blow out my own hair before allowing the assistant to do it again. read more

Where I am from, which is up north it is easy to find a good hair dresser that understands the care black relaxed hair needs. I went to a few Dominican Hair Salons but I needed a place that I felt comfortable putting a relaxer in my hair. I came on yelp and stumbled on the two reviews for Ngina. I decided to go on her website and give her a call, that was the best decision I had made. The environment is very professional, and she knows how to do hair very well. Let me first start this review by saying I have been a client of Ngina (Gina) for years. She is absolutely the best in hair care, from color (always look healthy not dry looking), cut (always sharp), style (always on point), and I have seen Gina put in weaves, from my daughter's hair and other clients, all I have to say is nice and natural looking. Everybody was all over my daughter's hair when Gina put her weave in. It looked and felt so good and I am not a weave person. Gina natural clients hair looks silky and straight. I am telling yall, Gina is the BOMB! My hair is short and it always look good (thanks to Gina). I get compliments from folks all the time, men, women, young and old. When I leave Gina's chair I look and feel so polished. Gina is professional and if you want healthy fabulous hair, seriously, go see Gina. I don't know anything about the hair, but I had an appointment twice for a massage. The first time they claimed the masseuse had a personal emergency and they insisted that I had been both called and emailed in order to cancel. The woman pulled up my information and both the email and my phone number were in correct. I then made a second appointment only to be told upon arrival that the masseuse didn't work there anymore on Saturdays and that I was called. It was the same woman who pulled the stunt on me a week and half prior. She pulls up my name and reads the same wrong number she allegedly corrected the first time and says there is no email on file. She's a liar. I wasted my time on two occasions for that total and complete BS. Terrible customer service and zero professionalism. read more

I typically drive to Columbia MD to get my hair done but I just didn't have the time nor did I make an appt. in advance so I needed something close and convenient to my home in DC. I found this salon through yelp and as a VERY PICKEY NATURAL, I was scared to even book because I do love my current stylist and she takes great care of my natural hair. I booked a 10am appt. on a Saturday here for a silk press and let me tell you, from the minute I walked in, the service was great! I arrived maybe 2min before 10am and I was greeted by the receptionist. She was very warm and professional. I was immediately seen to have my hair washed (very impressive as most salons have you sit for about 10-20 minutes before they even see you ). The guy who washed my hair was also warm, professional and engaging. Candice did my hair and she did an outstanding job. I received so many compliments about how nice and healthy my hair looked. To top it all off, I was out of there in about 2hrs or a little under (this is not normal for a visit to the hair salon). Keep in mind I got shampooed, conditioner and then sat under the dryer, rinsed, blow dry (my hair is super think and past shoulder length) and then pressed. I'm writing this review because I was recently asked about a hairstyle I got from Studio Chique. This is going to be a detailed review (read: long). I am unable to attach photos of what has happened to my hair, which is unfortunate, because it would put into perspective why it was important to write an honest review about my experience. I've visited the salon twice. The first experience was back in May. I received a blowout on my natural hair. My second and last experience was in July. During my first consultation and both visits to the salon, I discussed with the stylist how I got heat damage a few years ago and that I wanted to be sure that a blowout on my hair wouldn't cause damage this go round. She assured me that I would be fine. I asked her during the first appointment (as well as the second one) if she was using a heat protectant and she said yes. I washed my hair after that first appointment and my hair reverted back to its original state. I was very pleased with the result of both the blowout and reversion, and therefore felt confident to book another appointment with the same stylist. In mid-July I washed my hair after getting a silk press. The style came out beautifully and since my last wash, I went on confident that come wash day, I would have a similar experience -- my hair will revert back as promised. That was not the case. Not only had I gotten extensive heat damage on the very front of my hair, but also on the right side of my hair up top and on the bottom. Here's why there is 1 star: There was no accountability taken for the damage done to my hair (I used NO heat styling tools at home), not from the stylist nor the manager. I emailed the manager looking for a refund. Despite her claims, there was no "no refund" policy on their receipts or at their front desk and no one informed me of said policy via email or otherwise. It was a back and forth of very LONG emails between her and I, with her telling me what heat damage truly was and what it wasn't, and that she couldn't tell at this time if the heat from the style caused the damage.........a lot of fluffy, long-winded conversation. Had I never came back after my first visit, this would have been at least a 4 star review. However, how one handles customer service? Changes the entire experience. The heat damage has made me very disappointed, but I was even more disappointed in the resolution. read more

I had a very positive experience at Studio Chique. The woman at the front desk was super friendly both on the phone and when I was at the salon. The salon itself is rather small and no frills, but clean and welcoming. I scheduled a Swedish massage with aromatherapy and scrub with Marsha because of her good reviews on here. At the last minute I received a notification that my massage therapist would be Patreece instead, and let me tell you, my only disappointment was that I didn't book a longer massage.
