My last visit was my last visit. I've been going to this establishment since 2019 pre COVID. I was able to reconnect 2024 and was extremely grateful, thinking back on my experience that took place 1/10/26; made realise why my appointment that was booked for May 3rd was not fulfilled. Unfortunately I spoke up about one of the staff who does not do well compared to her other counterparts with washing and massaging my scalp, I like to tip and would give at least $10-$15 tip for the washer. Because I spoke up and informed the manager owner I did not like the way the staffer washed my hair (April 19th) my appointment that was scheduled for May 3rd never was confirmed. I was not charged for no show or anything like that I really thought it was an honest mistake. It was not until the last visit Jan 10th I informed them again I did not want this person to wash my hair. I booked with Tee the owner, however someone else did my service and when I left I was not even asked about next appointment. Very disappointing, I get it they support all their staff, but instead of turning away your customers make your staff better for the business. read more

Amazing! I've been following this salon and owner for a few months. I had a stylist in Catonsville that I loved but the distance from where I live was becoming a headache. Found another salon in DC, and although they did a good job, we just weren't a match. So I decided to give this salon a try and I'm so glad I did. They were so friendly and my shampoo was heavenly. I arrived at the salon five minutes before my ten o'clock appointment and announced myself since there was no one in sight. A woman emerged from a back room a few seconds later and asked me what service I needed. She did not extend any pleasantries (ex: "hi" or "welcome") even though it was my first time at the salon. I was surprised that she did not know what service I was having since I had made an online appointment and this should have already been noted in the salon's electronic system. At any rate, I told her that I was getting a shampoo, moisture treatment and hair cut with Tizeta. The woman informed me that Tizeta wasn't there and that she was on her way. I thought it was odd for a stylist not to be in the salon when she had a scheduled appointment; however, I allowed the lady (who I'll now refer to as the assistant) to wash my hair and then put me under the steam hair dryer for my moisture treatment. The staff were setting up the salon when I arrived. The assistant did a load of laundry and another employee wiped down the sinks during the time I sat under the dryer. A woman arrived at the salon at 10:13 and immediately started tapping on the register. I figured she must be the owner Tizeta. She did not extend a hello, greeting or apology for her tardiness. The assistant rinsed my conditioner after twenty minutes and I moved to one of the hair styling stations. The assistant began parting my hair in four sections and clipping each section the way hair dressers do when they are about to blow dry your hair. Sure enough, she reached for the blow dryer and I swiftly reminded her that I needed a natural haircut and not a blowout. She released the blow dryer and walked to the back room to get Tizeta. Tizeta approached me and asked if I'd like to wear my hair natural and I told her yes. Then she asked me how I'd like my hair to be cut. I explained the style I wanted and Tizeta said she needed to blow dry my hair so that she could cut my hair while it was straight. She assured me that this would help to achieve the right shape. I said ok and she proceeded to blow dry and cut my hair. At one point I was concerned that Tizeta might be cutting off too much hair and she threw up her hands in exasperation and said "you tell me what you want." I asked her to explain what she was doing and how much she was cutting off. We agreed on how much she'd cut and then she proceeded with the haircut. I engaged her in conversation and that seemed to bring her aloof demeanor down a notch and she was actually pretty pleasant after that. I was happy to see three other ladies with natural hair enter the salon to have their hair done during the time I was there. You wouldn't know that this salon does curly or coily hair from the pictures of straight hair styles on the wall. After Tizeta finished cutting my hair, she asked the assistant to wet my hair and add a leave-in conditioner. The assistant applied the leave-in conditioner to my hair and then asked me to sit under the hairdryer. The dryer pumped out such an incredibly hot blast of heat on my head that I had to ask the assistant to turn the heat down. At first, because of the language barrier, she thought I was asking her to place the hood of the dryer further down on my head, which would of course make the heat even more unbearable. I shook my head and she realized I wanted less heat so she raised the dryer's hood up higher than its original position and I finally got a reprieve from the scorching heat. Next, I returned to Tizeta's station so that she could style my hair. I appreciated that she didn't attempt to do any upselling because I wasn't a fan of the Fanola and Nairobi products she used on my hair. My hair did not feel moisturized even though I'd gotten a moisture treatment and I didn't like the lingering scent from the styling product she used on my hair. Tizeta cut my hair into a nice shape that fits my face; however, the haircut was much shorter than I anticipated. My appointment time was 10:00am to 10:50 am; however, I didn't leave the salon until 11:46am. Two hours is the amount of time I typically spend in a salon, so this was a fair amount of time to me. An inscription on one of the walls of the salon indicated that Arif means awesome, cool, hot and trendy; however, I didn't notice any of these things during my visit. Two stars for the five-star assistant that rolled me up and smoothed my roots!! She was sweet and did a great job. I'm so happy Tizeta assigned an assistant to do my style instead of completing the style herself. Unfortunately, this didn't liberate me from her poor attitude. 1. One assistant checked my hair for tracks when I put my hair into the wash bowl. The low bar for the black female aesthetic is not appreciated. Natural salons should have natural appreciation for black hair. 2. One visit, after waiting to be serviced, the owner asked me if I "still wanted my moisture treatment" This signals they like an assembly line of wash to blow dry. Natural salons should prioritize hair health and not try and rush you when they're running behind. 3. Tizeta is very rude and abrasive. My first visit was nice, but when I returned the appreciation for me and my patronage had dwindled. I requested they wrap my hair, you know, old school, and she rolled her eyes and eventually told me I could do that "when I go home." She also was very condescending and seemingly annoying when speaking to her. Upon checking me out her question: "do you like it?" Sounded more like a threat than an inquiry. The first word that comes to mind when I think of Arif Hair is "overrated." I entered Arif Hair on a Saturday afternoon in November. The first two things I noticed were 1) the crazy amount of smoke that filled the place and 2) the fact that I was not greeted. I've been to many salons, dominican salons included, and I have NEVER seen smoke fill a salon like that. It was so much smoke that my breathing was thrown off... it was hard to breathe a few times and this new client next to me had the same feeling. They need a better way to ventilate the smoke. I was not greeted until 5 minutes of sitting near the front desk, after the owner greeted someone else who came in. It was really strange that not one person said hello to me when I entered... not good for business. Anyway... my appointment did not start on time. It started 21 minutes late (I timed everything). The shampoo and conditioning lasted around 25 minutes (I think they were stalling for the owner since I was her client). But it was not a great experience. The lady who washed my hair was so ROUGH as she washed my hair. I felt like my scalp was going to bleed! I should have said something, but I didn't. Thankfully, the second time she washed, she was a lot gentler and I was actually able to enjoy it a little bit. The actual styling of my hair did not take long. I did not find the owner as personable as other people have commented in their reviews. I will say, she did an amazing job of styling my hair and the curls lasted all day and still had some curl to them the next day without pincurling. And upon washing my hair, I noticed little to no heat damage so that is always a plus. The styling and how pleased I was with my hair is why I am giving it 3 stars, but I honestly think you can find great styling elsewhere with less smoke and friendlier people. After a years of being afraid of heat, I decided that I wanted to blow out my hair and get a cut. During the fist visit , the owner wasn't available so i was unable to get a cut. The blow out came out beautiful , but my ends were so damaged by me coloring at home years ago that they got a little bit heat damage. I decided that I needed to get a cut , so I schedule a second appointment when the owner was available to get a cut. She immediately noticed the damage that color had some for my hair, she recommended that I get a cut and that we could do it in stages so that it would not be as drastic. I think I spent less than an hour at the salon , I got a wash , blow-dry , flat iron , cut and my ends curled. I loved the results and best of all when I washed my hair there was no heat damage. I have THICK, curly hair that I wear big with layers. It is usually a hassle to manage and I have gone through my share of hairdressers especially when it was long. Ti is amazing at cutting my hair exactly how I describe every time. She always has great suggestions to help maintain moisture, which is a huge issue for my hair and knows exactly how to work with my hair texture. The other staff in the salon do a great job and the salon is clean and pleasant. Tezzita is overrated!! The 2 stars are for her kind employees who actually do a better job than her- customer service and styling hair. I made the mistake of following a friends recommendation to get my hair done specifically with Tezzita. 3 hours after leaving the salon my hair was a hot mess!! This never happens to me so I know it's either as a result of the products she used or she must have left out a significant step in the styling process. When I called her the next day she was rude and didn't have any suggestions to remedy the situation. Trust and believe that not one curl held my hair looked so much better before I walked into the salon. Got my hair done by them 1 time. Nice shop, loved my style and tried to make this my home salon. They are a bit rude. When doing my hair I got a lot of comments made to each other that weren't in english. Which made me feel uncomfortable. My biggest issue is getting in touch with them or even a call back which is ridiculous. I've been calling them for 5 days straight, multiple times, looking to make an appointment and not only do they don't answer, they don't give call backs responding to voicemails. My calls were even forwarded multiple times. I feel I un welcomed and it really is a shame because I loved the style and treatment done to my hair. But the customer service is terrible. How did I find myself here? Because I followed Tizeta here! She's opened up her open place and given the pride she has in her work, her new place reflects her work ethic, expertise, and care. I have been seeing her for 3 years (where does the time go?!) She does well with many types of hair textures. I have been through the journey of going from relaxed hair to 'natural' hair (without the big chop) and she was there for me often along the way. My hairstyles "stays" for days and days when I come here. She does it with minimal product, which is impressive. I also really like the way she trims my hair. As simple as it may seem, I have gotten some underwhelming trims in the past and I refuse to let anyone else do it. This salon also has a lot of clientele from the Horn of Africa, but many others as well, and now in this new location in a new building, there are a good number of walk-ins who know a good thing when they see it, and clients are purple, blue, white, black, and yellow. Who cares. The shampoo ladies are great - they really get in there! The best part besides Tizeta's calm and pleasant demeanor and mad skills? Parking is plentiful in the area and I never have to worry, even at a 2hr meter, because I am always out on time to avoid a ticket! Sorry meter maids...keep walking.... Prices are not a secret - right there in a pamphlet. As basic as that sounds, those of you who are impressed by this little tidbit know what I'm talking about. I came in to get a blow out but instead I waited for about 20 minutes without being greeted. I'd expect poor customers when a place is crowded but not when I am 1 of 4 patrons. I'm big on customer service so this is one place I will not waste my dollar. There are a few positive things about the salon. Went in at 4:00 and asked what time I could be seen. The person who spoke to me went to talk to someone else and they talked and starred at me like I was a freak. Tizeta is very positive, honest and non judgemental which are traits a lot stylists in the DMV area lack. She doesn't try to sell you unnecessary services or products you don't need. If she gives you advice, its the honest truth and her delivery is very gentle. I have had experiences with a lot of hairdressers who hair shame you every visit in front of all their clients. She also has a good guage of when you want to have conversation and when not, unlike some hairdressers that just talk and talk. I go to her regularly for treatments, blow outs and trims which she does very well. She is open to styling your hair how you want it and doesn't pressure you into cutting your hair or hairstyles. If you're looking to waste your time, this is the place to go. If I could rate 0 stars, I most certainly would. I will never step back in this poor excuse of a hair salon. I walked into this shop 3 times - one to make an appointment, second to attend the appointment, and lastly for a touch-up where I was denied service. Each of these times NOBODY greeted me or acknowledged my presence - just odd, confrontational stares as if I had walked into a stranger's home. When I finally was finally approached, the stylist Blen did not even say hello or introduce herself but rather tried to badger me about time, despite only being a few minutes late due to parking. She was rude and standoffish but loosened up during the middle of the service. I paid nearly $200 for a half up half down look, and tipped her generously despite her behavior. Two weeks later or so, I book for a touch up. The owner, Tizeta confirms the appointment and tells me to come after work so that Blen can complete the service. She refuses to give me a price indicating that it's based on the condition of my hair and advised Blen would give me a price when I arrive at the shop. I leave work early and rush to get to the shop only for Blen to tell me she won't touch up the style, she kept saying "it's not free" as if I didn't want to pay, however, I just wanted to know the price. She said the owner is the one who will tell me the price. I told her that the owner, in fact, said she would advise me of the price. She became visibly annoyed and ordered me to call the owner - i first show her my phone so she can see for herself the dialogue between the owner and I via text. Of course, the owner does not answer my attempts to reach her. Blen shrugs her shoulders and walks away and I leave the shop. I later reach out to the owner to tell her about my experience - she said she would call me but never does. I call her and she never answered. MY EXPERIENCE is noted above and that's all I can speak to - I find this hair salon to be unprofessional, rude, and unorderly. I've always been picky when it comes to haircuts. I have very thick hair, coarse, with some curl. Every single time I've gone to Tizeta, I've been thrilled with the result. She's seriously a wizard. I've never felt so good about a haircut, and for her to get it right every single time is a small miracle. She somehow has managed to master so many types and styles of hair. I had her do ombré and highlights for me today, and I was a bit nervous, but it turned out great and I've already gotten so many compliments. I cannot recommend Tizeta more. Tizeta is the best hairdresser I've ever had. Not only is she amazing at doing my hair, but she is a really sweet person. I met her in 2011 when she did my hair for my wedding and I've been going to her ever since. My natural hair (which I wear straight) has flourished with Tizeta's care. I went through a 3-month period of time where I wasn't going to get my hair done or taking care of my hair--I caused some major damage to the left middle section of my hair. After some months of going every other week and getting deep conditioning treatments under the hair steamer, my hair is now strong, shiny, growing and healthy again. I heard good things about this place from a friend and decided to get my hair done. I wanted to dye my hair with Tizta (hairstylist). I dye my hair every summer and I always do the same color. I never used bleach or highlight before so I didn't think the hairstylist would use that this time. I showed her picture of my own hair from last summer and told her I want the same thing. She mixed something and told the assistant to take care of it and left saying she has a party. My scalp was burning so I asked the vitro who was taking care of me multiple times what she put on my hair. She kept avoiding the conversation jokingly not wanting to tell me it's bleach. After all when I saw my hair I was shocked! I wanted to straighten my hair after coloring it but I was so disappointed that I didn't wanna get any other service.
