Yesterday, I had a great appointment with Paris at Urban Natural. Since I was a little apprehensive…read moreto book after reading some reviews, I thought it was appropriate to share my positive experience. I cut around 8 inches of my natural hair, while it was wet by myself last week (crazy, I know LOL). So, on Monday I decided to start looking for a natural hair salon so I could see a professional to even it out in case I botched myself in the back. I looked through Google and Yelp reviews and narrowed my options down to two. Urban Natural had an opening first, so here we are. Service with Paris: I arrived to the shop at 12:50pm for my 1pm appointment. Paris greeted me, directed me to the hand sanitizer and then to a temperature checking device hanging on the wall. I passed the COVID requirements and then we went to her station and discussed what I was in for while she was gently evaluated my hair. Paris truly has hands of an angel. Very gentle and soothing. Paris was honest with the condition of my hair, which I definitely appreciated. I've had stylists tell me all sorts of things just to try to make more money. She let me know that I did a pretty good job with my cut and just a light dusting was needed. She completed the trimming and then it was time to wash. Before we went to the shampoo bowl, she told me about the condition of my hair and scalp and what products she would be using. She let me know that my hair and scalp were both in good condition so no detox or extra strength products needed to be used. We proceeded to the shampoo bowl and she then lets me know that she will be placing a towel on my face (this was mentioned in the questionnaire- more about that later). After the towel is placed she washes my hair twice and then applied conditioner that she kept on my hair for 10 minutes. After I'm done in the shampoo bowl, she directs me back to her station to smell shea butters and finishing oils to choose what I'd like on my hair. This was HARD for me, so many smelled so good. I felt like I was at the nail salon trying to choose a color LOL. I decide and then she starts my hair, first applying my chosen butter and then she did my requested 2 strand twists. I fell asleep halfway through the twisting and woke up when she was almost done. As I mentioned before, her hands are very soothing and gentle. Parting, combing, detangling, everything is done with care. I'm not tender headed at all but it was a relief and it felt marvelous! I got to the shop at 1pm and I was done at 4pm. I was checked out contact free through my phone and I tipped in cash (that is their policy). I will definitely return to Paris for any future appointments. She did a great job and has a good, calm spirit. My hair is multi-textured and she did a pretty good job making the style look nice. I had two compliments within an hour of leaving the salon. The work spoke for itself! :) Booking: So booking the appointment could've been easier or maybe communicated better. On the site, it shows that they are completely booked, for I want to say 45 days, and asks if you'd like to be put on a waiting list. I joined the list, thinking I wouldn't be seen for a while and proceeded to co wash and do my hair. On Tuesday afternoon, I receive an email with a questionnaire about what I was looking to have done, you answer questions and upload photos. I submitted that and then about an hour later I received another email with a COVID questionnaire and my appointment date and time, which was Wednesday afternoon. I had just finished twisting my entire head and was a little frustrated that I did all that for nothing since I had an appointment for the next day. When I arrived Paris looked a little confused and even remarked that my hair already looked done and good LOL. I think if the site showed true availability and stated that questionnaires are required prior to confirming your appointment, rather than they are completely booked, would be a better option. They may be losing business due to the current model, especially for someone who is looking to get their hair done soon. A 45 day waiting list looks discouraging and if I was desperate, I would have continued searching without even filling out the form. Just my opinion as a new customer, it may be working for them. Venue: Clean, organized, and has a home type feel. The chairs are spaced out, I don't know if this was always the case or new due to COVID. They had really good music playing, and no TV was on, which is a plus for me! I would recommend Urban Natural to any other naturals in the area. I'd give 4.5 stars due to the booking issue, but I rounded up because Paris is awesome! :)

I called on a Thursday and was able to schedule an appointment for Sunday morning. The shop was conveniently located and easy to find, if you drive you may have difficulty finding street parking. The braiders were friendly, accommodating, and timely I even received a text that my braided was ready early if I wanted to come a bit earlier. My appointment went quickly and my braids turned out nicely and weren't too tight or painful. I've had the braids in for about a month and one came out in the front. I stopped by and inquired if I could have it replaced and one of the braiders promptly replaced it and another one on the side for me. I'll definitely be back for more styles in the future.

I expressed that I don't like my braids too tight and for her to stay away from my edges and she did everything I asked. AVOID THIS PLACE…read more Went in for a haircut late April due to their 20% new client discount and to try them. Showed up for my appointment and the salon was dead empty (1st red flag) with their discount on papers plastered everywhere (2nd red flag). Had to wait 10 minutes as they got my hairstylist who was doing who knows what in her car....(3rd red flag). I asked for a simple "modern mullet" hairstyle similar to what I nornally had with just the sides shaved and top and back trimmed. My hairstylist then proceeds to shave my sides almost all the way to the top, so I resemble "Cillian Murphy" from Peaky Blinders. I get it caters to a female clientale more, but really....? Turns out the 20% discount ended up not even mattering. The total cost was $40, but yet I had to pay $36...(20% of 40 is $32). Still, I chalked it up to just a bad haircut at a shady place and I could move on. Yet, turns out AGAIN, my debit card info was stolen from here, resulting in multiple DoorDash orders totaling over $500. So I beg anyone, avoid going to this place or you definitely will be paying for more than just a terrible haircut.
