The salon itself is very aesthetically pleasing, beautifully designed, clean, and put together nicely. That said, the location feels a bit sketchy, which is something to be aware of. Also, it's paid street parking. Unfortunately, my experience with my stylist, Whitney, was extremely disappointing. From the start, she was unwelcoming and came across as rude. During my appointment, she repeatedly spoke loudly over me to other stylists, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. There was little effort to make me feel comfortable or valued as a client. What stood out most was her demeanor throughout the service. Her tone and communication regarding my hair process and results were not only unhelpful, but also came across as condescending. A salon experience should feel relaxing and collaborative, this was the opposite. Based on my experience, I would not recommend booking with her, unless you're in the mood to want to get physically aggressive. I wish I could make this up... On Friday, I scheduled a body service at this "luxury" Black-owned spa and they discovered, after keeping me waiting on the table for 10 minutes, that they DID NOT HAVE THE SUPPLIES to even do the service! Which was insane, because this was a confirmed appointment...I didn't just walk in and catch them off guard! The aesthetician and receptionist offered many apologies and promised to comp the service if I could reschedule. I reluctantly agreed to come back the next day. The next day, the SAME receptionist welcomed me back, glad to "make it right." The service was fine and I TIPPED my aesthetician. But when I went to check out, a new receptionist asked which card TO PAY WITH. The original receptionist (who was still there) then informed me that "the owner" would not comp the service. They then scrambled to find me a "discount," as if the "owner," who was obviously aware of the situation, offered nothing for my wasted time, gas, or poor experience at her "luxury" spa. This was UNBELIEVABLE! Had they told me BEFORE the service, I would have walked out! (which is likely why they didn't) In the end, they gave me a whole 20% discount and I paid it just to avoid arguing. I calmly told them the whole incident showed a LACK OF INTEGRITY and requested that the "owner" call me personally to discuss. Since it is now TUESDAY and I haven't heard a word, I just thought that everyone should know that "luxury" isn't about a nice building. Luxury is being PREPARED to serve clients and having the integrity to own YOUR mistakes and make it right. I've supported Studio Chique since the "old" building and often overlooked things not being "fancy" because the service was good and I was always treated well. I have been a loyal client of this salon for 8 years, but unfortunately, I will not be returning after a deeply disappointing experience regarding their new "concierge" messaging system and pricing. This afternoon, I accidentally missed an appointment for the first time in 8 years. However, I never received the typical reminder that I usually do via text (or at one point call). When I asked the receptionist this, she responded "you opted out of reminders". It turns out their new messaging system bundles essential appointment reminders with aggressive marketing for services I don't use (like lipo). Because I unsubscribed from what appeared to be spam, I was stripped of my appointment notifications without warning. As a result, I was charged $160 for the full price of the service despite asking about rescheduling Suffice it to say I will not be returning. PS the cost of a silk press and trim has risen from $65 to $160 during my time here. This increase far outpaces inflation and, frankly, doesn't match the level of service or communication currently being provided. read more

I'm prefacing this with the fact that all I get is a wash, blow dry and trim. But I also have to reiterate that all I get is a wash, blowdry and trim.... This is my second time getting this service in a month. The first time, a woman washed my hair, put something in it, had me sit under the dryer, washed that out, then Ikea blow dried my hair so beautifully and even said she likes to do a quality blowdry so the trim is better. This time... I've started this review before I've even gotten my trim bc if all you get is a wash, blowdry, and trim, the service is more than half over after the blowdry. And why was my 4b hair being blowdried in huge sections, meaning if you went through half way w the drier on the huge sections by the time you came back to put in the other 50% of work my 4b hair is DRYING. Meaning it is now of couuuurse not going to blowdry smoothly and will snap and break off. I know that, the woman who did my hair had to have known that.. but why was my whole head of 4b hair blowdried this way.. if all you get is a wash, blowdry, and trim.. and to sit on the couch and feel the puffy roots?? If I was my mother I would've stopped the service and ask if someone else could do it.. I am definitely disappointed in my service today but that said, all I got was a wash, blowdry and trim. I'll be honest...over the years I've had a bit of a roller coaster of experiences coming here and at one point in time, wasn't sure that I would return. But over the years I've also seen a lot of changes in the business when it comes to consistency in professionalism. It's always been clear that the owner values this, but I think it may have taken some time for some of these issues to resolve themselves. One of game changers for me was when I started going to Aloni as my stylist. My best friend would always rave about her and after having an experience that I thought was my last straw, I booked with Aloni and have never turned back since. Aloni really cares about her clients, is so knowledgable, professional and personable. She takes the time to ask questions about what you want, don't want, like or don't like without any judgement. But she's still very honest and won't suggest anything that could potentially compromise your hair health. She is an absolute breath of fresh air and I never leave anything less than happy with my results; I always feel like my money was well spent from start to finish. Also, the new location is absolutely gorgeous and is being run like a well oiled machine. Studio Chique is yet another gem in the Brookland/Woodbridge neighborhood. They offer a number of services to get you pampered, relaxed, and looking and feeling your best. Staff were extremely friendly, greeting you on arrival, welcoming you with water, and making sure you were relaxed. The upstairs (entry level) had more of the salon vibe with upbeat music playing. The downstairs was elegant and relaxing with light music, dim lighting, and wall waterfalls. I came for a massage and while initially skeptical due to it being higher priced than my usual place, it was well worth the premium. The room was so relaxing, masseuse was fantastic (admittedly, it was so relaxing that I fell asleep), and I left feeling like new. This will become my regular spot for massages and I'll have to check out their other services! read more

I saw the owner offering more than hair services to her clients . It's one thing to offer talent , but when your customer service and natural love for people is added it's an experience that anyone would pay for . My massage specialist Tia was excellent, very intentional and awesome personality. I will be booking her once a month now . Her respect for the owner and how she runs her business speaks volume. Your response speaks for itself and shows a lack of integrity, because making a judgment without confirmation is either unprofessional or you are just lying. Also, mentioning 30 years of experience while having so many bad reviews is an insult to yourself; you should not have mentioned it in your response to me. To prove that I have been to your establishment, I will share a few details, and the fact that I must do so makes you look like a liar. Upon walking into Studio Chique, the reception desk is on the left on the main floor. The hair stylists are also on this floor. Spa treatments are downstairs. To get to your station from the main floor, I had to walk up one flight of stairs. Although you are upstairs, it's an open area like a balcony from which I was able to look down and see the main floor with the reception desk and the other hair stylists. Upstairs, where you are located, there is 1 or 2 sinks on the left, along with two chairs with mirrors for both you and your assistant. (Your assistant does the braids for your sew-ins.) Also on the left is your office, which is much smaller than it appears on social media. The restroom is in your office, with a shower to the left of the toilet and sink. The "secure area" you are referring to, where you store customers' belongings, is in your office. Now, all this "Kingdom business" you are talking about is a hot mess. I have never been to a church that serves Patron, Firebird, and other alcoholic beverages. I thought prophets and ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ were supposed to live holy lives and influence others to do the same. Clearly, that is not you, because your preaching contradicts the way you do business. Also, stop blaming everything on "the enemy," the devil. You are giving him credit for something he has no part in. The enemy that is attacking you is yourself. This will not change until you take accountability for your actions. No one is perfect, so grow up and be mature enough to admit that you dropped the ball and try to do better. You claim to forgive me, but I hope you forgive yourself for such narcissistic behavior. The morning of my appointment, I received an automated email and text confirming a new stylist, without any direct communication or explanation. Having worked with multiple stylists at Studio Chique previously, I am aware that both quality and service can vary. Being reassigned without notice, particularly on the day of an important event, was less than ideal. When I contacted the salon, the receptionist was professional and informed me that my original stylist could not make it in, which I understood. That said, a proactive phone call or text prior to rebooking would have been appreciated. While at my appointment the receptionist made a genuine effort to ensure I had a good experience, which I valued. Unfortunately, a positive experience was not the outcome. As I was getting up from the chair, the stylist's phone received a text message from another stylist, Whitney, containing a derogatory comment referring to me as "your client in your chair with that dumbass face." The message was visible and clearly directed at me. When I addressed it, both Whitney and the stylist deflected rather than taking accountability by acknowledging the sender and content of the message. Whitney was seated directly behind me at the time, making the source apparent. Additionally, Whitney was tending to her own hair, dyeing it and sitting under the dryer, while having clients of her own. This further contributed to an unprofessional environment. After reviewing other customer feedback, there appears to be a recurring pattern of concerns involving Whitney. For additional context, a prior service interaction with Whitney was also negative, notable for curt and dismissive communication. The continuation of this pattern reflects poorly on the overall client experience and the salon's brand. Overall, this salon offers a highly inconsistent experience depending on the assistant and stylist. I tried this salon after an online recommendation because I was looking for a new place to get my haircut and styled. The salon itself is very clean, aesthetically pleasing, and overall a nice atmosphere. The service I recieved was less than what I had hoped. There was some confusion between the young lady who shampooed my hair and the stylist on whether to blow dry my hair before sitting in the stylists seat. I think the stylist in general wasn't really aware of the service that I booked which was a haircut (more than just a trim). Once my hair had been blow dried and I sat with the stylist and explained what I wanted, she said she would've left my hair wet had she known (which I thought too). She then fully dried my hair and cut my hair dry which isn't something I've had done before. The stylist was understanding and kind to me and I genuinely think did her best given what I think was miscommunication or just not being clear on the appointments purpose and my hair type. After the haircut and style was complete, the stylist was kind enough to ask the owner/manager to discount it as she didn't feel it was her best work which I appreciated! The stylist and I both agreed that it probably wasn't the best haircut, which isn't a great way to feel leaving a salon but I still liked it. Overall, I'm not sure if I would return here but if I did, I would probably just only get my hair styled and not cut or enjoy one of the other services the salon has to offer like massages, facials, etc. read more

THE BEST MASSAGE EVER! I called Studio Chique | Luxury Salon & Wellness Spa yesterday and asked if they had any facial and massage appointments for the day. To my surprise Cashmere, the receptionist happily scheduled both services for me and offered the current special rate on massages. The salon is located on the 2300 block of Rhode Island Ave NE along side several interesting local shops and trendy restaurants/cafes. Upon opening the door, I was impressed with the interior design and panache of the Salon. It was 'NYC Chique'! After checking in and completing a digital questionnaire via my phone about my expectations of the services being rendered, I followed the lovely Cashmere to the Wellness Spa area located at the bottom of the spiral staircase in the lobby. I was seated for a short moment in the serene waiting area to the sounds of ethereal music and a relaxing water feature. Ni'Jhae, the esthetician introduced herself and lead me to one of the many luxurious, cozy, and aromatic service rooms. Ni'Jhae cleaned my face and began examining my skin before selecting the best signature products for my facial. She explained the features and benefits of each of the products as she applied them to my face. Every application felt velvety and smelled freshly fragrant. She didn't push products on me, instead she gave me advice on products that should treat my problem areas. Needless to say, Ni'Jhae had my once dull looking skin shiny as a new copper penny and soft as a baby's bottom. Now, for the review of all reviews....the Signature Massage by Deshoy. I'm still smiling from that euphoric experience. Deshoy entered the room with a pleasant demeanor and promptly washed his hands. He then proceeded to ask about my comfortability with also massaging my glutes, feet and abdomen. To all of which I obliged affirmatively. Deshoy began appling soft deep pulsating pressure to my neck, shoulders, and back. Immediately, I was put in a trance with the way he used his hands to massage those areas. As he continued to massage my arms down to my fingertips, then to my toes and feet, up my calves, to my hamstrings, then my inner thighs....and Girl, the way he grabbed and massaged my waist...Whewww!...Babbbbbyyyy! I was giddy thinking to myself that this man must absolutely have some stalker clients and I bet a few restraining orders on some of them too...lol, but frfr. Deshoy was a consummate professional massage therapist. Oh yeah, at some point he asked if I was having a 60 minute or 90 minute session. Unfortunately for me, I had opted for the 60 minute massage. It was such a a soothing and pleasant experience! Imagine Sitting 5 Hours for a Pixie Cut...Whitney needs to be put on a corrective action plan or fired. You never win when you are nasty and mean spirited. Why come to work unhappy? I arrived at Studio Chicque at 10 AM for a simple pixie cut. I left at 3:30 PM feeling drained, humiliated, and deeply disappointed. This was my first visit, and instead of being welcomed, I was told I was "messing up the stylist's day"--five times. Imagine being a paying client, excited to try a new salon, only to be made to feel like a burden before the service even begins. The shampoo assistant, Jada, was a bright spot--professional, kind, and attentive. Unfortunately, the actual stylist, Whitney, was the opposite. She arrived late, immediately upcharged me with fees because I picked the wrong services. This was my first time--why not give grace? I picked precision cut, mold and style. In the details for mold in style it stated relaxer. She tells me my new growth is too long and I need a virgin relaxer. I'm very confused! I said okay we can add it on I apologize. Then she gets nasty and tells me I'm setting her back and she wouldn't have taken me today. Chyna and Jada look at me like too deer in headlights. They seem to be use to how she speaks to people. She is a bully and passive aggressive. They are simply use to it. I will not get use to disrespect. I've never seen in 10+ years of wearing a pixie a relaxer being $265 and then she spent the rest of the service making me feel small. She loudly complained that I was "setting her behind schedule," embarrassed me in front of other clients, and treated her colleagues like they were beneath her. The price gouging was staggering: $265 for a relaxer, $85 for a precision cut, $110 for a mold and style--services I've had done at top-tier salons for significantly less. To spend five and a half hours in a chair for a pixie cut (a two-hour service, max) while being ignored, talked down to, and left under the dryer for an hour without being checked on is beyond unacceptable. The entire experience made me feel unsafe, uncomfortable, and disrespected. Customer service was nonexistent, professionalism was absent, and I left wishing I had walked out sooner. God was covering me because my quietness was not weakness. I was saving everyone's life by not going off!!!!! The passive aggressive, nice nasty attitude was HORRIFIC! She should not be a stylist. When she asked me did I want the hair to lay like a mold or curled? I said I like in between...for Whitney to let out a heavy sigh and be snappy with me was unacceptable. No client should ever feel this way. This salon needs to take a hard look at its staff and standards. I've been a loyal client since 2020 and today's service left me frustrated and upset. I was hoping to have a relaxing self-care day and decided to add the VIP Excel service to my natural hair services (NO STYLE) but it was far from relaxing. I had to ask for a glass of wine and was never offered or asked about my food preference. There's always at least a 15-20 min wait but todays wait was longer than normal. My appointment began at 1 and didn't leave til after 3 for a no style service?! That is ridiculous. I asked to speak with the owner Ngina who I saw and said hi to when I arrived but was told she was not available to speak with me. I've been coming to this salon for over two years now so I highly recommend it. I saw a reel on Instagram and I was ready to finally cut off my colored ends and rock my gray hair. So I scheduled my appointment at Studiochique and met Loni. She cut my hair shoulder length and for the first time I absolutely LOVED my hair! Before that moment, I typically was indifferent about my hair and whatever style I left with. Fast forward two years and my hair is healthy and waaaaayyy longer than it was when Loni cut it. (a couple inches from my waist to be exact.) Aloni is a gifted stylist and she truly cares for and about her client's hair. Whenever I have questions about trends and ideas I see on social media, she answers honestly so I know what's good and not so much. She's earned my trust and respect such that I enthusiastically recommend her to everyone who will listen!! Today she put a pinkish purple rinse in my hair. Y'all! It's fabulous and I feel so pretty right now. I received the Japanese head spa service with Jasminn and a silk press by Ngina, the owner. highly recommend the head spa if you want a full service hair treatment and education. It's also very relaxing and Jasminn was very gentle with my hair which I loved. You will get offered complimentary snacks and drinks for the appointment which is lovely. The silk press service was a luxury but also informative as she told me about the state of my hair. Her staff is extremely nice and very professional too which I am also a stickler for. Studio Chique is definitely a go to for healthy hair and relaxation! read more

I'm really disappointed to have to write this review but I don't have a choice. I waited more than 30 minutes for my stylist and it seems like stylists show up late quite a bit here. It also seems like they use way too much heat here for black hair. I don't wanna come get my hair done and then find out it's damage to the next time I wash it. Also, whoever the front desk person doesn't have a very good attitude. I popped in for a visit one day before actually going and there was a different girl at the front desk who was very nice with bright colored hair and a warm, welcoming attitude. But when I went recently, I didn't have a very warm and friendly experience. It just seems very disorganized and unprofessional. Also, the location is not that great. There's a bunch of men trying to talk to the women outside it's very uncomfortable. For the high prices that they charge I would recommend going to another salon in the city. I had a facial here before the pandemic and got another one today with Tyra. Both were excellent!! Tyra uses high quality products, the process feels great, and she is very knowledgeable about skin. My skin looks and feels so moist and hydrated. The product that she used on my lips left them looking and feeling great! I love my facial and will definitely be back. Also, as I was walking out a lady was walking in and her hair looked great!! It was bouncy and slayed!! read more
