Finding a stylist that really made me feel like they wanted the best for my hair has been a challenge. I have natural hair that I were straight. During my first visit Ayanna asked me what my hair goals were, I said healthy hair and if I can get some more length I'll be happy. She smiled and said that's very doable. On my third visit I let her shape my hair and didn't even get to enjoy the shorter look that long because my hair started growing. I've been frequenting Ayanna now for a few months, so I think I'm qualified to do a proper review. :-) I came to her after a salon in my area flat-ironed my hair a little too straight and the curl didn't return. I decided that I was going to weave my hair up as a way to give it time to relax. After researching, I decided that Ayanna would be the best choice for my pockets. During the initial consultation, I was able to tell that she definitely knew what she was talking about. I was thoroughly impressed and booked a full install with closure appointment. That installation went relatively well, and it led me to booking 2 more weave installations, a take down, and a couple of wash/blowdry/silkening treatments. She uses (with me) DevaCurl products to wash my hair and will add essential oils if need be. I've been pleased with everything she's done. Pros 1. Online booking (if you read my previous reviews, this is huge.) 2. Upfront pricing 3. She takes major cards AND Paypal 4. When the Nats aren't playing, street parking is plentiful 5. She has a great personality and a "whatever it takes" work ethic 6. Impeccable braiding, weaving, and silkening techniques 7. Very reasonable pricing (I paid more in Silver Spring.) 8. Very close to the Navy Yard metro station Cons 1. Street parking (I promise you I'm always feeding the meter via my Parkmobile app. When the Nats are playing a big game, it's more of a challenge to find a space.) 2. Time management (She's dope...but she takes forever if you're getting a weave. Plan for that. Seriously. I pack snacks, but she always offers me a plate when she's installing my weave and needs to take a nourishment break.) 3. Location (She shares space with a barber shop. Some people may not be okay with having halfway styled hair around a bunch of men. Just saying. The men are perfect gentlemen...they just steal glances when you're getting 16" of hair installed on your own 14" hair. LOL) I recommend her--she is a GIFTED stylist. Just understand that she takes a while to install weaves, and that you aren't getting the chandelier/soft music atmosphere that some like to have when getting their hair done. Best person to care for my colored hair. I was scared to dye my natural 4C hair all over becsuse of the horror stories I've heard from other people but when I came here, my hair has flourished more than ever with all these awesome treatments. I also have never been to a hair salon where I got both quality and style all in one! Most places make you choose either or. When I found Ayanna, I was desperate for a good haircut and to have my hair done. Ayanna squeezed me in on a Saturday and was very gracious even though it was obvious she was very busy. I needed my hair blown out and trimmed in preparation for a wedding bridal stylist the following day. I was looking last minute (the day of) and found this place on Yelp. I'm surprised she doesn't have more reviews. She insisted I get a moisturizing treatment which I was apprehensive about bc I didn't want build up for the stylist the day of the wedding but she won me over and my hair was feeling silky and smooth after the blowout and trim. I've been overly apprehensive about getting my hair done in DC. I'm from Detroit originally and all black people should know that Detroit is the hair capital. I just could not get use to the heavy pressing oils that other black salons in the DC area used. I couldn't go to the Brazilian shops. I don't have soft baby curls and they never really take care of your hair and all the boutique shops are crazy over priced! I am a very pleased client! I asked for a wash and blow dry only, with a hydration treatment- and that is exactly what I received. She or it in two French braids afterwards- my favorite hairstyle. I have natural medium-course shoulder length hair, which can be a lot to work with, however it was of ease for her. Ayanna has cut my natural hair and weaved my now permed hair. I met Ayanna about a year ago when I badly needed to add style to my hair. I had natural hair then and sought a hair cut that would fit my style as a first year attorney at my new firm. I was incredibly happy with my hair cut and the style Ayanna designed. Ayanna is definitely the best sylist in DC!! She does natural hair and chemically processed hair. She is very professional and does not have you sitting in the hair salon for hours. Ayanna was very nice and took me as a walk-in with no problems. I went in for a touch-up and usually burn very easily and am left with underprocessed hair but Ayanna was very gentle and used a relaxer that was better for my hair. One thing I really loved about her was that she has her own homemade products, I am relaxed but have switched all my hair products to natural and organic so that was a plus for me! The prices were not anything outrageous, they were decent for the quality of her services. She trimmed my hair just enough (hate scissor happy stylists)and when I left my har was swanginnnnnnn like I had just left the dominican salon (minus all the unecessary heat). She only gets 4stars because that was the only time I went, I am wearing a weave right now, bu I'll be sure to go in for another touch-up and test her skills when I'm 8-12 weeks post relaxer and Sh*t has goten real in the middle of my head.
