Curly girls, go see Vicky! I was in need of a trim because I didn't trust just anyone to trim my hair and had avoided getting one for some time. A friend recommended Fiddleheads and I read reviews and determined that this location and Vicky was what I needed. And I made a great choice! Vicky is very chill, but also very knowledgeable about curly hair. We talked for a few minutes about what I wanted/didn't want and showed her some pictures, she explained what she would do, and we got started. I love love love that she trimmed my hair dry (I had washed and styled it the day before) so she could see how my curls actually fell with all their different textures. Then she washed me (I think I fell asleep, lol). She sat me under a bonnet dryer for about 20 mins then finished with diffusing. As pictures have shown, she instructs you to lean way back in the chair, lean forward in the chair, and tilt sideways to increase the amount of volume. Then she told me to shake my head. She finished off by adding some pomade and trimming a few more strands. I got pictures of the products she used and headed to Ulta. I'm very happy with the shape she gave me. It is a little short, but my hair is healthier and looks better. There's a little more frizz in the back where my texture is tighter, but I can work on that when I do my hair next. I just might be back to make a color change in a few months! Update 2 months later: I called the Dupont location to find out when I might need an appointment to start stripping the red from my hair so I could color it again by my birthday at the end of the summer (had discussed this option with Vicky at my last visit). The man who handles calls took my name and number and said he would have Vicky call me back. No call back was received. So a few weeks later I called the other location to ask the same question. This time I was told that I should go ahead and schedule the color appointment around my birthday and that someone would get back to me to answer my question about when to start stripping the red. It's been a couple of weeks and still no call back. I really wanted to return to this salon, but with customer service like this, it's increasingly difficult.

VICKI GOT ME RIGHTTTT. Wonderful haircut/color and wonderful conversation!!! It's hard to find a curly stylist I can trust and I'm so glad I went here. My hair looked fantastic too

    My curls thank fiddleheads!!

What a great gem for curly-haired-girls!! I just wish I would've found this spot sooner in my life. After deciding to go to another random place to get my curls chopped (rather unsuccessfully, I might add), I knew I had to go somewhere to get a fix, and quick! We were coming up on Valentine's day and my long-distance boyfriend was visiting, and I didn't want him to see my uneven locks! I called to make an appointment and they were able to get my in the very next day - thank goodness! However, that very next day also happened to be a snow-day so they had to cancel everything. I wrote back and explained my situation, and the owner was able to reschedule me for within 24 hours (aka: before my bf arrived). After I found the spot on the 3rd floor, I took a seat and waited for my turn. They were running about 10 minutes late, but I could tell it was because they were taking care of every customer very well. Michelle cut, washed, and dried my hair like a complete pro. She was full of energy, life, and was easy to talk to. I usually don't bring a picture of what I wanted my cut to be like, but I did this time and she look one glance and knew exactly how to go. I was super impressed - she kept checking in to make sure it was how I liked it and even did a bit of maintenance in the back when I asked for a more straight-line cut across my back (as opposed to coming to a "V" shape). I really enjoyed the personal attention and the complete empathy for dealing with curls my whole life! Checking out was super easy, and they emailed me my receipt (and let you add tip onto your credit card). The cut ran me $75 which is a bit more than I would normally spend, but it was so worth it. The owner even gave me a chocolate on my way out and said "Happy Valentine's Day"! :) Yes, it was, they definitely saved it!!

Vicki was OUTSTANDING with my daughter's middle back length 3C/4A super dense and coily hair. She did the Devacut and we are sooo pleased! Vicki is in Dupont Circle in DC and I was able to find a parking lot using the SpotHero App so I felt safer than catching the subway since I am not familiar with DC. She works very efficiently but with any great stylist, many people rebook immediately so we booked on January for a April 5th appt. We were in by 5 and out by 7....AMAZING!!!! Most of that time was spend under the dryer because of my daughters natural hair holding water.

I've been to Fiddleheads (Florida ave location) a few times over the last couple years. I've typically booked with Wangui who has been awesome to me. I have (had) long curly hair, and Wangui has been great with giving me layers and pintura highlights. This review, however, is for Vicky. I've been debating chopping off all my hair for a while now. Lots of color over the years left it stringy and a bit unmanageable at times. I've stalked Vicky for a minute and finally decided to make an appointment for the big chop. From the moment I got there, Vicky was super attentive and gave me her opinion: the chop I wanted was too drastic and that I should leave a little bit of hair so that I don't hate myself the next day lol (note: I've had long hair my whole life!) She was so excited and made sure I was comfortable with what we were about to do. I had no intentions of getting the cut I ended up with, but once Vicky did the big chop, we played around with ideas and settled on a short angled bob. Honestly, the reviews do her no justice, she is an amazing stylist and she will tell you what she thinks is best in her professional opinion. She's also really nice!

I haven't gotten my hair cut in two years. It needed shaping and my ends really needed to be chopped. The salon is small but very cozy and clean. I was greeted immediately and was offered water by the woman at the desk. I went to the Fiddleshead on 17th street. My stylist was Vicky and she was AMAZING! We spoke for 20 min just about my hair routine. How I currently wear my hair and what kind of style I wanted. She was upfront in how much she would cut and she made me feel very comfortable. My hair came or AMAZING! My curls have never looked like this before and my hair feels so light and bouncy. I was truly shocked at the final product and I could not have been happier. Please go see Vicky!! Thank you so much!!!

1/13/18- Elena was THE best!!! I have been blowdrying and flat ironing my hair since I've been 18, I'm 33 now. Although, I considered my hair to be healthy (it looked flowy, full and shiny, sometimes ‍) but otherwise, it was "fine". Any who, heard about Elena from Yelp reviews and she didn't disappoint. She took us on time, friendly, professional, informative and she also took her time finger detangling my hair (major plus!!). She clipped my damaged ends so well but didn't cut off too much. She diffused my hair to perfection that it looked even better as the day went on! Major plus is that my husband LOVED it! Elena didn't push me to buy Devacurl products, which was great! Although, I plan to purchase a few from their line as they have natural ingredients. Elena gave me a great foundation to continue the journey of taking care of my natural hair and I am so pleased! Also, I saw Vicki and her clients hair was noticeably great as well for anyone who is considering her. Beth was really helpful as well, she was knowledgeable about my hair and what was best for it as well! Elena and Beth suggested I didn't much which was refreshing because during this transition, I overused products. Now, I am not as anxious about what to do. Clean salon, refreshments (tea & water), great location in DuPont and price is reasonable. October 2018: Haircut and new style!!! Beth did an exceptional job per usual!!!! Love my hair! You can't tell me nothing!

I've been coming here for more than 3 years. This is the only place I've ever gotten my hair cut where I haven't cried the next day & ended up fixing it myself. I went to Vicky the first couple years I came here, the last 3 times I've gone to Elena bc Vicky's schedule was full but I absolutely love both of them! In October I had a disaster highlighting my hair and ended up with a weird halo of trashy bleached blonde color all along my hair line. I wore a headband to work for a day and a half until Elena could fix it, she did a phenomenal job! It was back to my natural color with just a few subtle highlights within an hour and a half.

Ask the Community - Fiddleheads Salon

How much is a devacut for medium 3c hair?

    DevaCut will cost about 100.00

On the website for a Deva cut it states "Your stylist will use our signature dry-cutting technique, so please arrive at the salon with your curls detangled and dry, in their natural state", does this mean not to use products & diffuse prior to cut?

You can do your hair as you normally do. They will wash with a clarifying shampoo that strips the products out after the cut.

I've been thinking of going for a Devacut, but am concerned about the price. How much is the cut without buying any products after?

A Devacut is going to cost you about $100.00 plus tax. See Vicky if you can wait!

Do not come for haircut. This is simply a place to beautify your face and hairdo for your special…read moreday or to color your hair but don't come here for a haircut. Except for French woman named Sophie who can do decent cuts, there is no any other stylists skilled in precision haircuts. Came here and one of their top stylists gave me the worse cut I've ever had in my life. I've had to wait more than 6 months to grow my hair out from the horrible layers he did on me. He literally just chopped my hair up. The bottom of my hair in the back was an upside down triangle! Every stylist knows it should be straight across and maybe just a bit rounded on the sides! Any salon would have easily provided a (normal) soft, feminine, sexy, natural cut that is subtle perhaps at different skill levels. This guy clearly had no concept of how to cut (straight) hair because his clueless messes get disguised easily in wavy or curly hair or in a blow dry with curling brush.

UPDATE: Jillian threatened me with legal action for writing this review…read more After being a loyal client of Jillian for hair cuts and Adrian for brow waxing since at least 2016 until 2018, before I moved back to San Francisco and to Plano, Texas, I returned to NoVA/DC - moving on election day in Nov 2020 - because it seemed like NoVA/DC was being pragmatic about covid-19 regulations vs. the two extremes in CA & TX. I messaged with Jillian prior to my move on 11/3/2020 to learn how Karma was handling covid-19 regulations, because there were no capacity restrictions in Texas, so I hadn't had my hair cut or colored for 7-months - the longest I've ever gone. I saw her and Adrian on 11/22/2020, and even brought them both "welcome home" rose gold goodie bags with cards, Sugarfina rose gummies & chocolate caramels, and masks. I knew the global pandemic was especially hard on the beauty industry, because my aesthetician in San Francisco & her mom had to close 2 of their 3 salons in the Bay Area - in spite of being open since the 1970s. I was therefore sensitive to this fact. Which is why it was even more bizarre when I learned on social media in December 2020 that Jillian was moving to Dallas, Texas in January 2021, after she listened to my stories about Texas and pumped me for specifics about salons there, and at no point told me about her move. I later learned she told some clients about her move and not others, and that she expected Karma to tell me about it. However, the poor communication continued, given Karma never emailed me, the same way I never receive receipts for my "contact-less" transactions, and they still ask for my physical credit card, in spite of verifying its existence on file. The poor communication and the broken technology are both annoying. I let that go, and worked with Jillian - via social media - to book hair cut appointments with her for the next 6 months on Saturdays, however even when we agreed on my preferred time slot (4pm), she booked them for 5pm, because that worked best for her, she said. Not very friendly customer service for loyal clients! She also initially told the receptionist she was booked in February, which initiated our social media messages, requiring me to book with her directly. Then magically she's staying late for me! In parallel, as to the quality of Jillian's cuts, I started seeing her when she used to place a placemat on my shoulders to ensure her cuts were even, and I was always happy with how even they were over the years. That said, I've been very clear - including bringing drawings and instructions from my stylists in San Francisco, who do editorial work for Nordstrom & Gap, and trained in London & globally - that I don't like "shelves" of layers in my hair, I prefer long layers, I don't like corners, and I prefer professional cutting techniques to remove weight vs. thinning shears that butcher the ends of my hair without expertise. Jillian uses thinning shears, and my last cut included all the things I don't want mentioned above. It was, however, even at the bottom. I let this go, because I've had uneven cuts in DC, and I knew that by August 2021, I would need to find a new stylist anyway. I did, however, vocalize my concerns to Jillian yesterday & today about the inaccuracy of rapid covid tests, in parallel with Texas removing their mask mandate, while she travels back & forth between a covid hotspot & DC over the coming months, and she decided to cancel my appointments as a result. That's fine. I'd rather not contract covid, which is exactly why I left Texas. Which brings me to the brow waxes. Due to schedule availability, I booked an eyebrow wax with Erwin in December 2020, and his brow waxes are better - and more expensive - than Adrian's. Erwin's shape was superb, and similar to my favorite brow artist in San Francisco, who's regularly voted best brows. However, Erwin did not pluck or wax the hairs in between my brows, which I had to do myself. He also told me the gold dab of eye shadow I placed in the center corners of my eyes made me look cross-eyed, which I found insulting, so I suggested he remove it if he found it distracting. He asked me who gave me that make-up guidance, and "if they were black". Was that a racist comment? And why was he criticizing me, his paying client?!? I tried booking a brow wax in January 2021 with either Erwin or Adrian, and learned they were both at home quarantining with covid. Surprisingly, when I saw Adrian in February 2021, he criticized my brows, saying how much they needed a wax. Obvi! Why do he and Erwin feel it's OK to criticize their clients? Furthermore, they were uneven. Shockingly, I pointed this out to Adrian, and he agreed that my left brow was taller than my right, and re-plucked, yet when I got home, I still had to fix myself, comparing to my photo of my best brows in San Francisco. He also over trimmed the end of my right brow. If you like being treated as a client, look elsewhere.

I still believe a full refund would've been the right thing to do, but you pick your battles. I appreciate the attempt to make this right although it still seems somewhat half-hearted. 4/27/18 Please look up "Zhen Lin" on yelp to see my review of the stylist who did my hair and more pics of the highlights she gave me. There was obviously a major misunderstanding. Why on earth anyone would want super blonde highlights on top of dark brown hair in 2018 is beyond me. This is not at all what I asked for. I asked for a natural looking balayage and showed Zhen literally four different pictures of examples I liked. I expressed that I really wanted the hair to look natural, blended and not ombre'd or striped. Both Zhen and the manager refused to try to make it right when I expressed my disappointment in my hair. Neither offering to help fix it, nor a refund. I had to pay $250 for something that was the opposite of what I wanted. After begging in person for them to help, I left another pleading phone message tonight for them to help me fix this mess, or refund my money as I can only imagine what a color correction will cost at another salon. I absolutely hate writing bad reviews about people and wouldn't have posted this if I didn't feel completely swindled, disrespected and brushed aside. I'm really hoping they'll get back to me, and I'll update this review if they decide to do the right thing. In the meantime, I'm beyond disappointed and disgusted!
