I walked up to the door and it was locked (I think only on Sundays), after re-reading my email about using some code to unlock the door I tried to use the key pad it ended up dialing for someone. As I was calling the office, Tyler my masseuse walked out to open the door. He was very polite and friendly. He led me to the office to fill out a form. I used the bathroom quickly it was small but they really tried to make it nice for customers. I also asked if the facial that came with the package, could be skipped since I didnt want to wipe off the makeup he was flexible about replacing that with a longer massage. My massage included hot stone but there was not quite a prepared flow instead he focused on the problematic areas that I pointed out in the form. I also told him that I pulled the area below my shoulder blade the night before he suggested to massage the psoas which was overworked because I use the pilates reformer everyday. He took some time to massage and relax the area. After the massage the remaining soreness around the shoulder blade was eliminated. I enjoyed their innovative focus on muscles that were not traditionally massaged or paid attention to. The masseuse was knowledgeable, patient and listened to customer's needs. I contacted The Spa Room on the same day I purchased the Groupon and was told by Mary they didn't have any weekend availability, and asked if I would like to come in during the week instead. I again reiterated I purchased a weekend slot, and Mary replied that if I didn't want to come in during the week, I should contact Groupon and cancel. I pointed out that the weekend deal was still available on Groupon, and she stated something to the effect 'that's Groupon's problem, not mine' After several email trying to work something out, I contacted Groupon and let them know the circumstances and they refunded my money. The Groupon rep also stated they will be contacting the business to see what the issue is since the posting is still up for weekend classes, but obviously they are not able to deliver. After reading other reviews stating how bad the massage class is, I am glad I was able to get my money back!

I'm only writing this now as I'm going to other doctors to have revision surgery and finally have the courage to do so. I went in with wanting lipo under my chin to define my jawline, instead he was extremely aggressive and said I should have a chin implant and buccal fat removal. He assured me the recovery time would be minimal but it took weeks to recover. The worst is the chin implant-which I never wanted- has caused permanent nerve damage in my chin. I can't feel the right side of my chin and lip area 5 years later. I expressed concern after my surgery which he dismissed and said it's normal. Definitely not normal as I can't feel my chin and my smile which I loved before has been permanently altered. I would never recommend Dr. Schoenfeld to anyone.

This time, I made the appointment months in advance, confirmed at three weeks in advance, and they had no record of the appointment when I arrived. In fact, they insisted that I had never been there, and that they had no record of me. When I gave them the specific day and date of my last appointment, they were able to figure out that they had my wife's name instead of mine. (hence why they billed her insurance instead of mine last time). In the end, I drove an hour for an appointment I had confirmed three weeks in advance, and was refused service. No medical care is worth this amount of headache and administrative ineptitude, when there are other very good dermatologists in the DMV.

I rarely use these rating emails, but I feel that this is important. I went in for a regular coloring session with Mickey today, and it was a harrowing experience. First, he tried to lighten my hair about 3 shades of blonde higher on already blonde hair, and I came out looking like a sick leopard with yellow blonde and platinum blonde coloring. Then he says, before I put the product in your hair, do you like the color? When I saw it, how could any colorist or stylist ask this question, knowing that I was looking ridiculous? Notwithstanding, he knew that I had graduation/hooding this Saturday. Now, I have been there for two full hours for this process. Only when I complained and said no, this is not it because my hair is purple did he suggest, let's go back to the golden blonde. Now, I am there even longer for a process that wouldn't have taken as long. (I couldn't believe, after being a customer for 14+ years, that the salon would feel comfortable with this type of service and work). There was an attempt to upcharge me for a double process while he was destroying my hair in the process. Then, the receptionist who saw all of this going on had the nerve to charge me the full amount, no discount for the service or lack of service, and the extended time to do the process with no respect for my time. At the time of paying the bill, I remembered it was the same amount as the first time, which was a double process given the amount of new growth, but this time, I felt abused as a long-term customer and deeply saddened that this was the treatment I received. I have never had a problem with service, yet as I was on the road home, I considered the lack of consideration I was provided, given he messed up my hair to charge me for a double process. Based on the other services I receive at Salon Roi, I thought that it would become my full-service salon. I will be finding another hair colorist who won't try to gaslight me on the services and then charge me full price for it. How dare you risk my special event because you want to upcharge as you prepare for a vacation? read more

My first pandemic haircut - that was easy! While I've been a Salon Roi client for years, I have also been an extremely conscientious "stay at homer/social distancer so had not been there for about six months. I'm so glad I went to Salon Roi today. My experience in this "new normal" felt safe and was both comfortable and enjoyable. As for my hair, it feels "right" again. About the pandemic haircut experience: my temperature was checked as soon as I arrived; all employees and clients are wearing masks, and hand sanitizer is readily available; and many fewer appointments are being booked. It was odd to see barriers between stations, however, within moments their presence seemed normal rather than imposing. Cleaning and sanitizing efforts have increased, but then, the salon has always been spotless. Not only did I get a wonderful haircut, my stylist also made some recommendations and minor changes to make it even easier to maintain during these times of social distancing and mask wearing. I happened to stumble across this hidden gem during a DC spa week, a couple of years ago and have been a client since. Salon Roi is quaint and the service exceptional. Each time I walk in the door, I am courteously greeted by the receptionist and offered tea or water. With decor honoring Marilyn Monroe, the building is a converted row house with three stories, which creates a quiet, relaxing atmosphere if you're receiving a facial or massage. Services for manicures, pedicures, and hair are provided in a more open space, allowing for socializing with friends. One thing I particularly like is that on certain days of the week, they offer a 20% discount to students. This helps me to be regular with my appointments. If seeking an skin services, I highly recommend Daiva. She's extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I have also seen Odetta when Daiva was unavailable - also fantastic. iv lived in woodley park for a long time and i have been on a never ending hunt to find somewhere that i can get my massages, facial, nails, waxing and hair done. and iv finally found it. Salon Roi is wonderful. the people at the front desk are warm and accommodating, offering me tea, coffee and water, or anything else they can get for me. i got my hair done by mikey and he was GREAT!! he listened to what i wanted and gave me exactly that. i got a facial from jerome and my skin has never looked better, and the spa week specials are AWESOME. i still cant get over the $50 massages. and i read the previous review about nick and it made me sad. i had an appointment with him and he was professional and very nice. also the massage was very enjoyable. maybe he was having an off day that day. i would definitely go back to him. i would recommend Salon Roi to anyone who wants to have an amazing experience while getting pampered at the same time. Blanca is absolutely lovely! I recently moved to the area and went to the salon for the first time yesterday to even out some very old highlights from the bottom of my hair. I'm generally pretty picky, and am still learning to communicate exactly what I want from the stylist, but Blanca did a beautiful job integrating different tones throughout my hair. She was very conservative about ensuring it looked natural and blended the highlights throughout my head, however, once it was done I had hoped to see a little more of the individual highlights near the top of my head. I was able to come in later the same day at no charge to touch up and thicken some of the highlights, and she did a truly beautiful job. I went there for SpaWeek and its now one on my favorite spas. It feels very exotic - leopard print, pink, tons of Marilyn Monroe. Very cozy unlike Red Door or any other of those big places. Daiva is ABSOLUTELY fantastic. She did my first bikini and worked quickly, effeciently. It was definitely less painful that I had thought. Also had a wonderful facial (I have a lot of acne and she did a fantastic deep cleaning) and a great massage. I've already made my follow-on appt. A friend was there with me too and enjoyed her facial and mani/ped. Hair salon was busy and was multi-ethic so I think they can handle many different hair types. I've been to dozens of spas in over a ten countries and I really believe Salon Roi deserves 5 stars because of price and service. I have been going to Salon Roi for over two years and keep coming back because of the great customer service and hair expertise. Blanca, my hair stylist does a wonderful job with my weekly blow outs and I leave the salon every Friday with shiny and refreshed hair. The Salon Roi nail technicians (e.g. Rosie and Marita) are also excellent and will even do polish changes while I get my blow outs to save me time. We got the Groupon before we read the yelp reviews. Quite honestly, I expected to be greeted with a punch in the face when we first arrived after reading through them! But it turned out to be a fantastic experience! I got a really nice facial with Emma, who was very knowledgeable and walked me through every step of the process. I had to stop in for a manicure on the fly and I was pleasantly surprised! They were able to take me right away (which was a shocker) and they were all so polite and seemed happy to be there. I saw a customer chatting happily with a receptionist about her recent trip, and you just could tell that this place has it's regulars. My manicurist was gentle and meticulous, making sure my manicure was being done the way I like it. Plus it's right off the metro which was so convenient! What a surprise! After years of living in Friendship Heights--and schlepping to Cleveland Park or Bethesda for a decent haircut--I discovered this wonderful salon just up the road. It's called Salon Roi, and it's tucked away in an alley, underneath a building, making it almost invisible from the street. Once inside, the shop is large and airy, offering a myriad of services and many talented practitioners. My last stylist stripped my hair of its brown low lights, the highlights were nowhere near ashy, it was just a mess. I love the balayage/lived-in look, but because my hair is so dark, I need foils rather than balayage to lift it. This is something I always have to explain to stylists and they typically tell me I'm wrong, proceed to do it anyway, and then I hate it. Not Linh! I showed him a picture of exactly what I was looking for, and he immediately said "okay, we're going to need to do foils, not balayage, because of your hair type and then will do a root smudge." I could have cried. I didn't even have to tell him and he knew; he's simply an expert who speaks the language of hair. Linh was able to restore the ashy blonde highlights AND my natural brown lowlights, which helps so much with dimension and looking more natural. He did such a fantastic job and I will go to him again and again.

In a few sentences, this is a space dedicated to making you feel good about yourself. The downstairs apothecary is filled with herbs, tinctures and crystals to help you with any ailment. You can also book appointments for Akashic readings or with a reiki master in their well appointed healing rooms. Upstairs, there's a simple and beautiful space for styling but at night you can find a variety of health and wellness classes to appeal to any age or background. I recently attended a class here with Woo Woo Company and was so excited to be able to meet like minded people in such a welcoming space. I only wish I had more time to explore the apothecary downstairs but it's probably a good thing because I could see myself dropping dollars there!

As Subject Matter Experts, they use a customizable solution (technique/type of hair) for each individual client as opposed to a typical cookie cutter approach like GL/HD "Platinum Partner Salons" that are limited by their own hair/application methods including bonding equipment. As to me, as the result of some serious matting both pre and post COVID-19 quarantine and a haircut gone seriously bad, I turned to GL/HD *cold fusion* to fill in multiple patches of super short / chopped off hair as it grows back in and tape ins are enabling me to safely do that (zero hair damage as long as you keep up with your 6-8 week move up appts); I just wish I'd found them sooner!! They are both beyond professional, courteous, kind, compassionate and work super efficiently. It's also worthy to mention that although their speciality/true passion is hair restoration (include extension application), they're also top notch stylists AND colorists to boot. I'm somewhat of a hair color snob since my hair tends to turn brassy as it lifts if the formula/process is not right and have definitely had more than my share of nightmares over the years!. That said, Devin's base bump on my 4" COVID roots using highlights and toner alone rivaled the same result Rita Hazan (NYC) had been producing the past 20 years using a double process and expertly matched the extensions. We even talked about my hair and how I should care for my hair. Usually, when I get a blow out or a silk press by other stylist my curls drop within an hour later and my hair begins to frizz up. However, I went home pulled my hair into a ponytail (being lazy) for 2 days, pulled my hair down on the third day and I still have curls. Girl, I was shooked! My head start pounding, so I take a look....Once parting through the hair we noticed that tape ins were improperly placed directly on the skin of the scalp, in no organized method, which resulted in major hair damage and bleeding patches throughout my scalp. The tape ins started to come out with my skin and hair follicles attached. Despite the horrible cut and hair damage, I experienced the worse shampoo I've ever had. I actually had to stop her in the middle of the shampoo and ask her to stop rubbing and scrubbing so hard because it really felt as if she was scrubbing every follicle out of my head. It's gets worse.....I won't get into all the details but please be sure to ask this woman about the fees associated with purchasing hair from her "vendor." I was told the hair cost one price but when the receipt was sent to me, it showed that the hair was in fact half the price she actually took from me. When confronted she basically told me that I should be okay with a 50% mark up because she needed to make a profit and most salons do the same things. Oh and I did my research on this woman....I normally don't like to leave negative reviews but I have tried speaking to this woman amicably for weeks, and I still have no resolve. Now she's decided to "not engage with me" because she owes me "no clarification." I wouldn't want any one to experience this so I thought I'd share.

I have very bleached blonde hair and it's extremely dry and prone to a lot of breakage. No matter what products I use on my hair it never feels like it penetrates the hair shaft so I'm left with dry brittle hair every day. They were able to determine the custom booster treatment based on a quick evaluation of my hair which was applied after shampooing. Then they put me under a vacuum steamer for 15 minutes which was warm except for the last 2 minutes it was cold. Maria explained the whole treatment process so I would know what to expect. Then rinse and go. The whole process took about 35 minutes. Everyone at the salon was warm and welcoming and I can't wait to come back for my next treatment! I highly recommend them!

When I went to pay, I showed them a yelp coupon that says $10 off any service. I was told they are not affiliated with yelp and can't accept that coupon. Weird, but okay. I left really liking my manicure experience and even thought this may become my new regular place since it's so close to work. Fast forward TWO DAYS to Sunday morning. My nails had air gaps in the middle of the nail and were chipped on all of the edges. I was surprised since it had only been 2 days and usually my manicures last me around a week. I called and left a voicemail asking someone to call me. No one returned my call - no worries, I was in Philly so I'd call call when i returned. When I got back, I called and spoke to Tiara - who was friendly and gave me an appt for Wednesday to come in. I'm thinking everything is fine - they'll fix the nails and I'll be off. I arrive and the manicurist (the same one I thought was great) started to give me a hard time about how if I don't do gel then of course it will chip after a couple of days. What manicure only lasts 2 days? It's not like I was washing dishes or cleaning - I was on business travel. Then she starts to lay into me about how I'm getting two manicures for the price of one. I'm thinking why is she giving me such a hard time? I offer to show her a picture of what my nails looked like Sunday morning but she said no, it wasn't necessary. As my nails are drying, she disappears and comes back with another woman whose first question to me was "were you so mad about the Yelp thing that you came back to get a free re-polish?" What?!? How incredibly rude. No - I am not thinking about a stupid yelp thing a few days later - I have bigger things on my mind. She also told me I lied about coming on Friday and that i came on Wednesday - I was not in DC on Wednesday and there is no way I could've come in then. She kept going at me about how I did all of this to get a free re-polish and made up a whole story and lied about everything. I could not believe she was calling me a liar and treating me so horribly over re-polishing nails. I offered to show her how my nails looked on Sunday - the time stamp on the photo does not lie which she didn't want to see. When I told her she was being incredibly rude, she said she was not and went to go get someone named Robert to prove that I was lying about leaving a voicemail. Why would I lie about calling or leaving a voicemail? What do I get out of it? I have never been treated so terribly before: yelled at and called a liar. What a bizarre experience. I will be going back to my regular salon - Spa Logic, where my manicure lasts more than 2 days and I've never been yelled at or accused of lying. Attaching the picture from Sunday.
