I went in for a tape in extensions and asked for a long style and a middle part. This is the final cut.....I did not see how bad the cut was before leaving because of the loose curls/bump at the end, but it was very evident once I start to comb through the hair once I got home. My head start pounding, so I take a look....Once parting through the hair we noticed that tape ins were improperly placed directly on the skin of the scalp, in no organized method, which resulted in major hair damage and bleeding patches throughout my scalp. The tape ins started to come out with my skin and hair follicles attached. Despite the horrible cut and hair damage, I experienced the worse shampoo I've ever had. I actually had to stop her in the middle of the shampoo and ask her to stop rubbing and scrubbing so hard because it really felt as if she was scrubbing every follicle out of my head. It's gets worse.....I won't get into all the details but please be sure to ask this woman about the fees associated with purchasing hair from her "vendor." I was told the hair cost one price but when the receipt was sent to me, it showed that the hair was in fact half the price she actually took from me. When confronted she basically told me that I should be okay with a 50% mark up because she needed to make a profit and most salons do the same things. Oh and I did my research on this woman....I normally don't like to leave negative reviews but I have tried speaking to this woman amicably for weeks, and I still have no resolve. Now she's decided to "not engage with me" because she owes me "no clarification." I wouldn't want any one to experience this so I thought I'd share. read more

I don't think I need to say too much because the proof is in the photos. I had to take my hair out (paid $200 and sat for 4 hours) 8 days later, because I could not walk around like that. When she finished my hair it did look nice but it wasn't until I got home and fully inspected her work. I told her that I wanted my hair full and she recommended flipping the hair over instead of cutting the track (she's the professional not me) so I agreed but I didn't expect her to do that at the front when she barely left any hair out (I told her I wanted to wear a ponytail sometimes). The disappointing part and what has me writing this review is that I reached out to her to redo the front near my part (not the whole head) and 3 days later, no response. This was my first time going to lye because of the good reviews on yelp and it's hard to find a good stylist to do weave and once agin, I've been proved right. When you spend $200 for someone to JUST install the weave, it should be done properly. The way she took her time, I thought my hair was going to look bomb. She is very thorough yet quick. I mean she really got it gorgeous, silky, and straight yet with some body! I've been going to Iye for over a year now and I will never go to anyone else in the DMV! She is extremely professional and very knowledgeable about hair. She is always genuinely friendly and welcoming. She's open to all questions about hair styling. Scheduling with her is very easy and she is serious with keeping to her appointment schedule. Iye has experience with all types of hair. I've gone to her for all kinds of styles: wash and set, twists, braids, texturizer, perm, weaves and wig styling. She can do it all! I always receive compliments for weeks  after getting my hair styled by her. That's another great thing, her styles always last  weeks. When I started visiting her, my hair was very short and brittle. Now my hair is extremely healthy, thicker, and much longer. She works fast so you will not be there for the entire day. Root and Mane is a fabulous salon. The main artist, Iye is amazing. She has a specializes in all types of hair: blond, curly, natural, ethnic, Asian . . .men and women. I have had Iye doing my hair even since I rolled into town almost two years ago. Iye uses quality products, works in a very clean/sanitary environment and she keeps appointments (that is very important to me, I always walk out of a salon if they keep me waiting more than 15 min!!!). It is a true blessing to find a stylist that is well educated and cares about the clients. My hair is "natural" and it is thick and healthy thanks to Iye. I am new to the area and was in serious need of a hair cut. Lye was professional and listened to what I wanted and did a fabulous job. I left with that feeling of "I can do anything, because I have good looking hair" vibe going on!
