Rude! Unprofessional! I had to pay a consultation fee because my prior laser treatment there was 2 years ago. That was fine. As I was explaining my concerns, Dr. West interrupted me and started to tell me what she thought I needed. When I tried to ask follow-up questions, she abruptly stood up and said "I don't have time for this", and walked away. The whole consultation lasted 5-7 minutes. I was in dismay! Rude, very unprofessional. I came there for a consult to see if I would be eligible for laser sessions, in the future. I explained my health hx to this woman, as I have been going thru some medical related issues with my skin lately. The woman comes in, with a very unprofessional presence and dismisses everything I even said, and continues to go down tangents of what she thinks is going wrong. I did not come to her for a medical eval. I came to her for a laser consult in the FUTURE(3-6 months later).Not now, or really in the next few months. I was in utter disbelief, and shock the whole time I sat in the visit with a loss of words and not being able to formulate any sentences - it made me in tears of frustration, and just overall shock and disbelief that someone could act like this and is in the profession that she is in. I come with a very heavy background in healthcare working for major insurance companies so I've been around with providers. This lady is the ultimate worst, the worst, that I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I hope one day she can look the mirror and be happy with how she feels about herself, because ultimately, how someone treats others is a direct reflection about how they feel about themselves, and I'll leave it at that. I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from. They don't sound at all like anything I have experienced at West Institute. Dr. West and her team have always been SUPER helpful and accommodating to me when I have come to visit. I've been seeing her for almost a year for Botox. I went to another Dr. In Georgetown for Botox years ago who just injected me and never followed up. I had issues (one brow higher the other) and I was told it would just work itself out . I had that wonky brow until the Botox worked its way out of my system. By contrast, Dr. West explained EVERYTHING to me as she went as far as what she was doing and why she was doing it. She is both thorough and extremely knowledgable. Key word, knowledgeable. There are hair salons and all kinds of bootleg places doing Botox these days, so having a doctor who is diamond certified by Allergan (maker of Botox) and knows her stuff is major. She targeted specific muscles to get the results I wanted, not sure you would get that with a Groupon! She did a complimentary 2 week follow up visit with me and said if I needed adjustments that she would address it then and that was included in the price. I was beyond satisfied with the results as they were just night and day (see my pics)! I don't look frozen or pulled in any way, just fresh as a daisy and that alone will keep me coming back. I've also had dermaplaning done here by Chelsea who is the medical esthetician in the practice. I would highly recommend it if you have light fuzz on your face, it makes your skin feel soft as a baby and the peach fuzz comes off with the treatment...so it's a win/win situation! Overall...EXTREMELY happy with services and friendliness/professionalism of the staff and Dr. West. UPDATE 5/2019 Dr. West has moved me to DYSPORT as of last year and I'm even happier with the results as I was with the Botox! It's a little less expensive and I feel like it lasts a bit longer for me than Botox did. Just got my birthday injections and I'll be good probably until September or right around the holidays. Chelsea did my facial and she's a stone cold professional. There was no small talk or fake ness. She has her game face on the entire time. So if you're looking for someone to smile and joke around and give you fake compliments this is NOT the place for you . If you're looking for someone who can 100% make your skin better, cleaner and brighter she is your girl. I also think she may have thought I was poor given my appearance ( I had been busy all morning and had dirty hair and seats on ) but I'm actually well off and spend at $500- $1,000 a month on my skin ( including services, products and the best nutrition). STAY AWAY from Dr. West and DON'T let her inject you any fillers or botox! She is the WORST choice I've ever made for filler injections. Beware everyone! She's not good at it at all. I havent tried her other services and She may be good at some other things (which I doubt it) but she is definitely NOT good at filler jobs. This "facelift in a syringe" thing is a rip off and a joke! I was fool enough to trust her before and after pictures and paid $2200 in hopes of having a better looking face. But then the nightmare happened :( She didn't address the proper spots on my face and instead of addressing my cheeks and filling the low volume spots, she injected fillers into the areas near my nasalobial fold that were already full and puffy so it looks even more puffy around my nose now and my nasalobial fold looks even worse. It is also very bumpy and not smooth at all. I wish I could undo this :( my face is now bumpy and assymetric , and when I complained, she acted like I'm a fool and said it was my skin problem!! Really?? Also keep in mind that She is not friendly especially after she have your money and sometimes a bit rude too. I paid her $ 2,200 just to make my face look bumby and I was gonna cry after I saw the result, and she is not honest enough to accept her mistakes. Well she has the money now. So who cares what happened to me and my face :( She didnt even try to fix what she did to my face. I don't know about other services in this clinic, but if you are gonna go for filler, DON'T do the same stupid mistake that I did and continue your research and go somewhere else... Found this place through google, saw they had great reviews and they had a DOCTOR, who specialized in SKIN. When I had consultations at other places, I never saw a doctor, always estheticians or nurses. I also saw Dr. West on some talk show and just saw her speak on her education and history in the field, and it made me call. I've seen her already a couple of times and I am happy to say that I'll be a patient forever, her honesty and confidence is what keeps me coming. It makes me confident in her because she doesn't try to sell me on anything, actually she tells me no! Lol I ask for 100 million things and she LITERRALLY YELLS NO TRACY! Dr. West is a Fairy Godmother with a syringe AND the party does not end at midnight. I started following Dr. West on Instagram and decided to make an appointment after my last round of Botox left me feeling meh. I went in for a laser treatment but she guided me towards a filler. The results made me look brighter, more awake and healthy. My second visit I received Botox and lip filler. Everything is really natural and I am delighted with the result. I have waited a long time to find a place that gives the quality of facials that I've found at West Institute. In the middle of quarantine I found myself breaking out with hormonal acne that was very deep in my skin. After only two sessions with Chelsea my skin is even and has almost fully cleared! She also recommended great skincare for someone my age (25) and was honest with how much I should be coming in to get treatments. Her professionalism and sweet personality cannot be beat. I had heard about The West Institute as being a top DC spot for skincare in terms of Botox, lasers, fillers, medical facials, etc. I first saw Chelsea for a medical facial with dermaplaning (google it, it's amazing and something that I'm not making part of my regular maintenance), Vitamin C, Oxygen and more. It was incredible. My skin felt SO smooth and literally glowed. Chelsea herself is stunning and a perfect example of what great skin can look like with the right upkeep. On my next visit I saw Dr West herself. She is a powerhouse and took nearly an hour during our consult to patiently and thoroughly answer all of my questions. It's been a year and finally am ready for share my experience here. What. A. Nightmare. In summary, I paid something like $2,000 (including the consultation fee - seriously) to have my face fixed up as I had recently gone engagement ring shopping with my now-husband and was looking forward to the engagement and photos. Dr. West injected me with botox above my lip to fix a very slight smile a-symmetry - this was her recommendation. Dr. West ruined my smile for the better part of 6 months (see photo). It was unfixable. All of my engagement photos are from an angle to hide what she did to me. I went back numerous times and it was never made better. The photos I took were from different months - as you can see the damage was real and long term. No offer of a refund, just many many hours of missed work while she tried (unsuccessfully) to fix what she did. She later admitted that she had never injected botox there before and had learned her lesson (awesome). I have photos of the entire nightmare from what I looked like before, to what I looked like each week after for months, and then (sadly) what I looked like on my engagement and in the professional photos. Additionally I overheard her saying that I'm too caught up on the way my upper lip looks (seriously) from the hallway as I was leaving on one of my many visits. The office was nice and the front desk woman was also sweet, but I would be too if my boss destroyed my client's face and she had to keep coming back, always on the verge of tears while there and crying a river at home. Dr. West, you're really terrible for not refunding me for what you did to my face. I was too vulnerable at that time to push for it as I looked like a monster but you'll lose far more from this review than I spent there and that satisfies me. read more

West Institute - Before and after of the several months long NIGHTMARE I paid for from Dr. West. - Dermatologists Near Me - Chevy Chase, Maryland

I went to see Dr. West to address moderate sun damage/age spots and she recommended a laser treatment. Unfortunately, my skin looks much worse now than it ever looked before the treatment. Clearly a mistake was made because my skin blistered and oozed for six days post treatment. After about three weeks, it healed revealing skin that showed no improvement in discoloration - which was the point of the laser treatment-- but has left my skin loose and crepey. On the follow up visit, she told me that she's performed many of these procedures over the years and nothing adverse has ever happened. She said my skin's reaction (severe blistering for nearly a week) was normal. I won't scare you with the photos, but it was NOT normal. Her manner was brusque, arrogant and dismissive even though it was plain to see from the before and after photos she took that my skin looked far worse post treatment. I am now buying insanely expensive firming creams hoping to restore it to the way it looked prior to the procedure. This is permanent. I can't undo this. It looks like I've aged 5 years in this area, completely out of sync with the surrounding areas. This is not what you'd expect from a professional practice or a procedure that costs over $2200. read more

I'm writing this review because I'm use to be a product junkie, who would get facials all the time, whenever/wherever I could ... and would still suffer from acne and sensitive skin. I found the West Institute on a google search, and they are located right next to where I use to live. So I decided to give it a shot and go get a skin consultation. Oh. My. God... probably the best dermatology center I have ever been to, because they have everything you need in one place. They have high-end/latest technology lasers and the best medical products for your skin. So let me tell you how my first visit went. On the time of my appointment, Dr. West took a look at my skin and carefully analyzed it. She came up with a simple plan of what my skin needed; 3-4 steps max. Then I was transferred to Chelsea, the (best) esthetician, so I could get my first oxygen facial - tailored to my skin's needs. Her gentle hands worked on my very clogged pores, along with their magical products that can only be purchased by a medical esthetician. After all the masks, massages, serums and pure oxygen, she put red LED light therapy (anti-inflammatory).... and my skin looked pore-less and glowed for days. I was hooked !!! I followed my at home skincare regimen according to Dr. West and Chelsea's instructions... and after a month or so, my acne was gone and my sensitivity was controlled. It is now 3 years later and I have graduated from college and moved back to Puerto Rico. But, I still make it my priority to travel to DC at least once every 5 weeks and get my facials and lasers done by the West team. They are truly amazing ! read more

I rely heavily on Yelp reviewers and the excellent reviews on Dr. West was instrumental in going to her for a consultation. I do not understand how she received such good reviews here. Once I got past the lovely front desk receptionist, it was all down hill. I have been to a few local dermatologists and plastic surgeons for consultations. I am doing my research before making any decisions about treatments available. I know that Dr. West has several different types of lasers and I was only interested in procedures that had very little downtime. I wanted to discuss lasers that would minimize my pores, even out my skin tones, and refresh my skin. Dr. West and her assistant were not only unfriendly, they are rushed and rude. Also, they both look very over loaded with Botox and fillers. So much so, looking at them made me sure I would never have fillers in that office. My goal is to look my best, not to look artificial with no facial expressions. It was so obvious that Dr. West was not interested in what I had to say regarding what bothered me, but was instead was more interested in telling me how world renowned she is in the cosmetic industry. Once the doctor and her assistant could tell I was not interested in being plumped up with fillers from the back of by head to the front, they were clearly uninterested in talking to me any further. Dr, West left the room and I thought she was coming back but instead her assistant came back in and told me there was an estimate waiting at the desk for me. I was stunned. An estimate for what? Seriously, I would not have someone do procedures on my face if they did not instill any confidence in me. Maybe the reason people gave her such high ratings is because they wanted and received procedures that I was not interested in. At least not once I saw and spoke to Dr. West and her assistant. Where do I start. The only good thing about this place is the front desk. The Dr. spent five minutes with me and said I need a facelift in a syringe lol I'm all for it if I truly needed it. I just want to get rid of my minor laugh lines. I have great skin. Her face reminds me of the cat women with too many lifts (but the softer version sort of). She tried to convince me my bone structure on the side of the face was not normal. I have always been that way but she wouldn't listen. I'm glad I didn't get anything done by her....looks like someone fell for her famous facelift and received really bad result. read more

I made an appointment here hoping that I had found a lovely and good med/spa for my monthly treatments...I Did Not! Don't make the same mistake I made. I followed up a few days after my facial here when I was still looking like I had a bad burn - and I was told that the Dr would get back to me as soon as she could! I never heard from the Dr or anyone about my condition or my treatment - but I got a phone call about a week later from a man (who I finally asked and he told me that he was in sales and marketing) telling me that I had to take a review down (when I had given less than 5 stars) He offered to put a check in the mail to me to take the review down. I've been going to Dr. West for 10 years, for filler, Botox, and lasering. No, Dr. West does NOT TAKE INSURANCE. If you're looking for a regular dermatologist, go to Dr. Maral Skelsey. Dr. West is a cosmetic dermatologist. If you're willing to pay out of pocket for someone who's up to date on the latest techniques -- who'll spend the better part of an hour figuring out what you want and how to get there -- go see Dr. West. I don't understand people taking the cheap route on their faces. It's your face, 24/7 -- get someone who'll treat you in a way that will bring you back for repeat business. read more

I am thrilled to recommend Dr. West and her team. I have the skin I always wanted, it's beautiful, my pores have shrunk, my rosacea is gone and my skin is beautiful! I was introduced to Chelsea through a friend and I couldn't be happier. I went in for my first appointment and the ladies at the front desk were very accommodating and kind. After changing and going into the treatment room, Chelsea came in, introduced herself and asked me a few questions about my skin and what I do and like. I told her that I like a hands on facial and wanted my skin to glow. She listened and delivered. Since meeting Chelsea, I have tried dermaplane, melange peel, among other treatments and I have been thoroughly pleased with everything I have tried. I also like the products.
