I'm only giving a three star review for District Dermatology because this practice doesn't treat medical conditions very well. A family member has Bullous Pemphigoid. I'm grateful that a doctor here biopsied it and was able to diagnose it. However, we have to drive two hours away to Baltimore. The Baltimore doctor treated the Bullous Pemphigoid but he would not acknowledge the side effects of the medication. Therefore, we are looking for a dermatologist closer. We cannot continue the four-hour round-trip to be medically ignored. I have written to District Dermatology, and I have phoned them. I have begged for help for my loved one. They will not even give me a referral to another doctor so my loved one can be seen sooner. I cannot figure out why the original dermatologist here, who diagnosed my loved one's bullous pemphigoi, cannot see them. This doctor even told me that she has seen patients with Bullous pemphigoid but my loved one was her first experience with this disease. She told me she treats them with Dupixent. All patients with Bullous pemphigoid have other health concerns. The aging immune system is the main cause of BP. There are also studies about the Covid vaccine causing BP. Personally, I think this practice should have been more involved in getting medical care for my loved one. My son found the derm at Hopkins in Baltimore. If you claim you cannot treat a patient because you think they have "co-morbidities" (even though they are highly functioning and working full-time) my opinion is that you should give referrals and contact them for us. That is only my opinion. That is why I am giving 3 stars to this practice. read more

Tried to schedule an appointment today that fit my schedule and was told nothing was available and I'd be put on a wait list. My Doctor was going on maternity leave and was told none of the other doctors had availability. I asked when I might hear back and was not told anything useful - a week, a month, three months. Disappointed with the lack of options this dermatologist office provides. Called today to gift my boyfriend a consult and treatment for Christmas. They don't offer that? At first I asked if they offer gift certificates. The answer was no. Then I asked if he could set the consultation, receive a treatment of his choice and I pay for it...the answer was still no. What?! The whole point of wanting to go to a dermatologist and not a typical medspa is to get the recommendations of a doctor, but the process in which you accept patients is asinine. Dr. Damavandy is very patient and takes his time with your concerns. He makes recommendations based on your needs. He is friendly and trustworthy. The staff is very nice as well. The office is very modern and I like how they have all the forms electronically on the ipad at the moment of registration. I was able to make an appointment very easily. I saw Dr. Dollani at District Dermatology for a routine body scan (many moles; lots of sun in my youth). I was quickly greeted when I arrived and Dr. Dollani saw me with almost no wait time. Her examination was thorough while efficient and she didn't rush me afterwards to address my questions. I found Dr. Dollani's bedside manner warm and welcoming and I highly recommend her if you're looking for a dermatologist. And also, the office space is really nice, the front desk staff is friendly, and the parking is accessible/easy. read more

Top-notch, fabulous new practice in McLean. They take insurance -- now THAT is a first inside the Beltway! Dr. Damavandy is so kind and had an excellent "bedside manner" -- good communication, he gave me choices, and we decided what I needed to do. Our family's experience with Dr. Damavandy was above exceptional. My husband called to make an appointment for our infant daughter because of a skin condition and during our appointment we were pleasantly greeted by the staff and by Dr. Damavandy. Dr. Damavandy was very informed as to what our daughter had. He then advised us that we would need to see specialist Dr. Silverman. We had explained to him that our pediatrician had recommended the same doctor but there was a 2 month waiting period to see the specialist. Dr. Damavandy was quick to make a few calls and got us an appointment with the specialist the next day! Dr. Damavandy was so concerned that he gave us his personal cell number so we could contact him if we had any questions or concerns. Plus, he personally called us a few days later to ask us how our appointment went. I can't express how grateful we are and how attentive, caring, and knowledgeable the doctor was with our daughter and her condition. Saw Dr Dollani. AFter waiting nearly 20 minutes to see her, she came in and spent maybe 10 seconds looking at my skin and the whole appointment was maybe 3 minutes maximum. She did not listen to me or ask if i have any questions. She seemed biased and rude. She did not listen to my concerns and just said "no you do not have discomfort, you shouldn't feel discomfort", when I clearly was experiencing skin discomfort. If you care about your time, DONT go to District Dermatology. Had 11 a.m. appointment for annual visit. 11:35 - still not seen. Having to wait a few minutes at doctor's offices is often expected. Having to wait 35 minutes is unacceptable. I will be finding another dermatologist. read more

My wife and I have known Dr Walia since 2001 when she worked at George Washington University as the Director of Dermatologic Laser Surgery. She is very professional, listens to the concerns of the patient, and has a great sense of humor. Her new open and "sunny" office spaces in McLean, VA are located on the first floor - so easy access and plenty of free parking is available. The patient management part of the practice is top notch and high tech - one can fill out almost all of the forms online through their excellent website https://www.districtderm.com/. Any extra forms are completed in the office by use of ipads. Dr Walia and her staff are great to work with - all very professional, courteous and efficient. She is very personable, professional and extremely competent. I've come here a handful times and have met with Dr. Damavandy each time. My experience has been nothing short of excellent each and every time. The facility is clean and quiet. The front desk staff is friendly both over the phone and in person. Dr. D has great bedside manner and is patient and takes the time to address any concerns you have. I've never felt rushed. I've never waited for longer than 15 minutes from my appointment time. Also, there is bottled water and snacks available for grabs in the waiting room. A bonus for me personally was that I've had to bring my baby with me to my appointments, and everyone was very accommodating. I've also brought my baby for his own appointment here and on one occasion, they've been willing to have him seen after hours, which I really appreciated. Although I can't speak to any actual skin procedures or surgeries since mine were all minor appointments, I would still highly recommend for anyone looking for a great dermatologist in the area. read more

I've been to a few different dermatologists over the years, this being my second one in Arlington, and Dr. Dollani has gone above and beyond what other dermatologists do. She explained the ingredients in every medication she prescribed and gave me recommended drug store brand products to use. Not only that, she told me which ingredients to look out for in new products I may try that were a sure sign that I should not buy that products. In the age of skin care we live in now it's easy to go onto YouTube and listen to creators give you an overview of what certain skin care ingredients do for your skin, which don't get me wrong is a great starting point, but Dr. Dollani gave me personalized recommendations and even further insight into the benefits of common acne "fixes". Never have I had a dermatologist speak to me the way Dr. Dollani has, and that's why I'll be returning to District Derm as long as Dr. Dollani is there! read more

Dr. Damavandy and the entire staff at District Dermatology took great care of my 86 year old mother. I really cannot express the excellent treatment this team provided for her. My mother had a previous Mose surgery at another dermatology practice nearby and it was extremely painful, and it required follow plastic surgery because the dermatologist did not schedule to have the wound closed. The pain of her prior surgery led her to fear undergoing Mose again. Dr. Damavandy was exceptional. First, he consulted with her and discussed her concerns about the procedure and blocked out several hours on his schedule to give her his full attention. On the day of surgery, he talked her through the process before getting started, then he administered the numbing drug without any pain, and performed the Mose procedure to remove a troublesome basal cell and a squamous cell near her nose and eye. The process took about three hours from start to finish, as the lab must confirm that all of the cancerous cells have been removed. Dr. Damavandy provided extensive information on what to expect following the procedure, and he followed through extensively. He saw my mother the next day and changed the dressing, and then did the same on the following day. Although he cautioned about swelling and potential side effects that might cause further care, he work proved to be skillful and the side effects did not occur. The stitches were removed a week following the procedure and the results are fantastic. The incisions are hardly noticeable. Throughout the process, which included five visits to his office, Dr. Damavandy, Helen, Tara, and the rest of the staff were attentive and caring for my mother's needs. I highly recommend Dr. Damavandy and his team at District Dermatology in McLean, VA. read more

My experience at District Dermatology was extremely positive. The office is brand new and quite clean, but still warm and inviting. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Dr. Damavandy calmed my nerves and did a great job removing my mole. He went above and beyond to ensure that I took proper post-procedure care of the wound and was very available for questions. I've been going to Dr. Walia to treat my rosacea and believe she is the premier medical professional for this condition as well as offering the latest gold standard V-Beam laser technology (far more effective than anything I've had previously at other dermatologist offices - ie. they've regularly offered the more common IPL treatment which barely did anything and also Retin-A, both of which made my skin more sensitive/redder particularly in the sun thus leading to new skin discoloration/damage). In addition to the V Beam laser which has made my rosacea disappear, she has me on a daily AM/PM skincare regimen which blew me away how much younger looking my skin has become...so much so that people I know are proactively asking me why my skin suddenly looks so much better. I can't recommend this doctor any higher for not only rosacea sufferers but also anyone looking to reverse skin aging. read more

My favorite doctor/dermatologist, Sunny Walia, joined this amazing new practice, District Dermatology. I have an ongoing battle with skin cancers -- the things seem to appear overnight. Dr. Walia is vigilant in screening, diagnosing and removing the cancers. She is knowledgeable and caring and will do whatever it takes to keep the cancers under control. In the past she has saved my life by diagnosing two melanomas. Please forgive the drama, but I wouldn't be writing this if she hadn't found them. The staff at District Dermatology are superb. They are truly friendly and professional and help make the office visit a very pleasant experience. The moment you arrive at the clinic you can tell the practice is exceptional. About 10 years ago my primary care physician recommended I see a dermatologist on a regular basis as I had significant sun exposure over the years; particular during childhood. I feel fortunate to have found Dr. Walia, who I have been seeing on a regular basis since then. She conducts a full body exam twice a year and has identified one skin cancer and several pre-cancers. I've been going to see Dr. Walia for several years now and can't even begin to put into words what she has done for me and my self confidence. I've struggled with acne since I was 13, and, after going to multiple dermatologists in the NoVa/DC area and feeling like no one could actually help me long-term, I FINALLY found Dr. Walia. She was the only dermatologist (I must have seen at least 5 before her) that was able to control my acne for more than a few weeks/months at a time, and my face has significantly improved over the last few years. Dr. Walia has been so patient and supportive throughout my entire journey, and thanks to her I'm finally confident enough to not have to wear makeup in public anymore. She has also helped me to repair the scars that years of acne have left behind via the Infini, LaseMD, and Vbeam lasers. She's highly trained and very effective --- after only 1 session with her I can already seen a SIGNIFICANT improvement in my acne scars. We just had our first office visit with Dr. Walia at her new practice "District Dermatology" and were THRILLED with our experience! My entire family of 5 have been patients of Dr. Walia for years and we were anxiously awaiting the opening of her new practice. Personally, I have been seeing a dermatologist regularly for 39 years and she is by far the best I have come across. Dr. Walia has had a very vested interest in helping all my kids with acne throughout adolescence and college and really "gets" the detrimental effects of acne. A lot of derms don't seem to take it as seriously and/or treat it from so many angles. As I age, I will rely on Dr. Walia to help me look my best and will also continue to rely on her expertise with my son who has allergic skin reactions due to other medical conditions. I really cannot say enough about her--- she professional, caring, progressive, knowledgeable & has a great energy-- always so upbeat!! We also had a very positive impression of her new office staff. The staff was very welcoming and the new office is stunning. We will be seeing a lot of Dr. Walia throughout the coming years--- just hoping she doesn't get TOO busy! ;) read more

They hosted an awesome laser open house a few months ago that I went to, which prepped me for the next phase of treatment I'd be receiving to help improve the appearance of my acne scars.
