So she was supposed to cut them, give me a relaxer, and style my hair in a pixie style and cut. I did not receive that. And the worker lied and said she can do it when she quoted me. Just for me to cry in the chair telling her I don't like my hair. And she said to me "To get the style you want you have to do that at home" "I no do that here because of Botox treatment" and I payed $250 for her to cut my hair and give me a texturizer, and buzz cutters the back of me head. This is a lesson for me, obviously I shouldn't have gone to a Hispanic for a culturally black style. However she should have been upfront in terms of what she knew and didn't. And she also tried to up charge me at the end an extra 30 dollars because I came with my locs in my head still...

The owner speaks both English and Chinese, which made it easy for me with my broken Chinese but Asian hair to get a haircut that suited me. When I arrived…read moreat the salon, they quickly assessed my hair and I explained to them what I wanted, they reassured me they could do it. The lady who did my hair did a TERRIBLE job. It was only when I got home, I noticed how poorly of a job she did. The sew-in technique she used was so bad - she made several knots with the thread randomly along the tracks, she even doubled up some tracks and sewed them down, and the cornrows underneath were whack, there was even some of my own hair sticking out beneath the tracks. It was also braided and sewed in so tightly. I tried to communicate this during the hair appointment, but there seemed to be a language barrier so she didn't understand me fully. All in all, I feel like it was their first time doing something like this, but they just couldn't refuse a buck so they said they could do it. It would have been better if they had admitted that they are not experienced with doing black hair or sew-ins for that matter, because $180 has gone down the drain just like that. I ended up removing the extensions the same night when I got home after I saw how terrible it looked. The removal process was such a pain, not even Youtube videos could help me because of how poor the sew-in/threading technique was. Never again. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

She keeps taking in new clients, leaving them sitting for hours, spending their entire day at the salon just to get their hair done. I came to Hair Therapy as someone who has struggled to maintain my 4B/4C hair. I arrived with my hair in its natural state under a bonnet. When it was time for the stylist to wash my hair, I removed my bonnet, and as soon as she saw my dry natural hair, she began showing visible signs of dissatisfaction as if she didn't want to do my hair or had never worked with Black hair before. This was shocking, especially since she is a Black woman herself, working in a Black-owned salon. She looked at my hair in disgust and immediately grabbed some detangler, saying she would work through it dry. I told her, "All you need to do is run some water through it and it will loosen up," but she continued huffing and puffing, clearly annoyed. Her body language made it obvious she didn't want to deal with my hair. When I asked if she was okay, she said she was fine but moments later, without any explanation, she walked out of the room and went to the front of the salon like she was about to pass out or cause a scene just to avoid finishing my hair. The situation felt disgusting and discriminatory. I was left sitting there with my neck tilted back in the wash bowl, starting to cramp, until another stylist came over to finish washing my hair. When I asked what was wrong with the first stylist, she brushed it off like it was nothing. I've never felt so uncomfortable in a place that was supposed to be welcoming to someone like me, as a Haitian-American woman. It was absolutely the worst salon experience I've ever had, and no woman should ever have to go through that level of unprofessionalism. The owner claims her salon is "inclusive" and "different from others," yet even during my negative experience, she bragged about how she could move to newbury street and raise her prices because people "keep complaining" about them when, honestly, for the quality of service provided, the prices are not worth it. In the end, my silk press only lasted two days. Overall, it was a terrible experience that has haunted me since.
