Stopped in for a late dinner, seated right away, wait staff were great-very attentive and polite, meal was amazing!! We had the fried calamari and bruschetta appetizers, both were a step up from your average fare. Calamari was cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside-comes with a sweet sauce. Bruschetta was absolutely INCREDIBLE, it was layers of warm, crusty bread, covered with tender squash, tomatoes, and cheese all roasted together and topped with a delicious pesto and drizzled with balsamic reduction-I was in heaven and can't say enough to give it justice. Also had the striper bite club and the fish was perfectly flaky and well seasoned. All and all, the perfect meal with perfect service!! Truly loved it!! read more

Stopped in for lunch during a mid-week getaway to Lewes, DE. Sat on the breezy porch area. Prices were very reasonable for the quailty of the food. Ordered the Maine lobster roll with fries, a salad and an Allagash White pint to share between me and my partner. The lobster roll and salad were phenomenal - everything we were hoping for! Fries were mediocre. Allagash was delicious - have been wanting to try this brew, but can't get it in PA. Dining atmosphere was excellent, as was the service. Ordered the bruschetta which was extremely good. Can't say much about their other food since we didn't order a meal. Overall great dinner. Almost 5 stars as decor is great, prices are fair and most of the food was awesome. Service was good but not stellar, the sushi I tried since this is a seafood place but that was only average and there was one entree we ordered they were out of. Just being a little bit picky but any one of those easily could have changed and i would have given it a 5. I really wanted to like this cute place in downtown Lewes! Unfortunately the food was just OK and service quite bad. Took about 20 minutes just to order a drink while waiting for a table. Drinks were decent. We were seated in the loud bar. About 20 minutes later we placed our order for the tuna appetizer, calamari, and shared entree of the crab cake, scallop, and shrimp. Appetizers were decent, crab cake good, shrimp and scallops below average, potatoes bland, green beans almost raw. Server never returned so we could order a glass of wine with dinner. Having not been to Rehoboth in 6 years, we rely a lot on Yelp to steer us in the right direction...and this time was no different! We knew we wanted to end up in Lewes for King's Homemade Ice Cream, so we ventured to Striper's for dinner. The Seared Tuna was awesome; it sliced like butter and melted in my mouth. The lobster roll was pumped full of large pieces of lobster and overstuffed - worth every cent! Typical kids meals ... as long as there is a chicken finger and pizza, kids are happy! I've made regular visits to Striper Bites for years now. I think the essential thing to understand is how vastly different the lunch and dinner menus (and thus, experiences) are. That's not a complaint, by the way. At lunch, it's essentially pub food -- I love their crab cakes, but the burgers and salads are also terrific. At dinner, you'll fine a more glamorous (and, of course, expensive) menu with seared tuna and many other entrees that I wish would be available throughout the day. read more

This was our favorite place at Lewes to eat. Great menu selection--lots of good choices for the varied tastes in our family including a high protein eating dad, calorie counting mom and picky vegetarian kid. Everything was tasty but the blackened tuna pasta was a favorite. The staff are soooo nice. We went on two different nights and both waitresses were kind to the kids, attentive and fun to chat with for the grownups. My only suggestion would be to make the red wine list a little less California-centric. And yes i know that is being a bit picky...shows you there just wasnt anything to complain about. read more

Service, location, and atmosphere are all fine other than the flat screens all around the dining room. We had the crab bisque, crab dip, special flounder, a seafood platter, and a pasta dish. THE BAD.....clam chowder was way too salty and had no clams or potatoes and the menu had no vegan entree options for the vegans in our group. We asked if we could just get a side of vegetables (menu item) and some pasta but the request was denied so no entrees were ordered by the vegans. I believe there's a difference between ordering complicated things that aren't on the menu but pasta and some vegetables seemed liked a reasonable request. Started with the calamari. It was a unique take on the dish that I recommend if you love calamari. I ate the rockfish "Lewes" style and my wife had the nor'easter. The food was great and cooked perfectly. The service was very friendly. I forgot her name but she was from Russia. They had a nice beer selection. The decor was nice and the restaurant was clean. We came on Thursday at around 8:30 pm which seemed like it was near closing time for that area on a weekday as it was kind of dead. Nonetheless the food came out quick, hot and delicious. I have been coming here since they opened and it has consistently been one of my all-time favorite restaurants. My absolute favorite is the lobster rolls. They are hands down to die for! You get two melt in your mouth buttery rolls that will never disappoint! Curried chicken salad is another favorite. Drinks are delicious and together with the many choices of food are all reasonable. Sides are delicious and well made.The service is friendly and accomodating every time. Parking in the rear is tight, but free. Not to be missed! read more

This is a typical Delaware place for good food. You have to realize that on the coast we are very casual and move more slowly than up north. Striper Bites has been one of our favorite local places for years. They do not take reservations, but then they don't have to because it's so popular, so be prepared to wait on a weekend. The food was very good, we particularly liked the lobster roll. They have a kids menu. The atmosphere was lovely. However we had a group of 12 people and it took us three hours from the time we arrived at 5:30pm until our meal was complete and check was paid so we could go home. We had an appetizer, but no dessert. We made it a point to arrive early in the evening since we had a large group, but it was peak summer season. They do not accept reservations. My family of four went on a Wednesday night in mid-August close to 9pm. It was very busy. We waited a long time for a table and even longer for our food. I would rate 3 stars if it were only the food, but two things made our visit unwelcoming: 1) the hostess was flippant and 2) the food was very late but instead of the waitress letting us know, she sent the hostess to our table several times to let us know that "our food was on our way"....which it really wasn't. Now onto the food: I ordered mussles and 1/3 of the shells were closed (rotten, dead). Those should have been discarded and never cooked in the first place. When I told the waitress she told me to discard them. I was very surprised. The shrimp and grits and salads however were fresh and good. read more

I had the rockfish, and it was great. Nice and meaty, cooked well, with a good balance of flavors. My husband said the scallops were fantastic, and the crab cake was about average. Service is slightly slow--they had trouble keeping our water glasses full--but really friendly. Also, you could talk in this place. We came for dinner on a Monday night during the summer. They do not take reservations and our wait outside was about 20 minutes before we could be seated. Our waitress was very nice but her service was very slow perhaps due to taking care of too many tables both inside and outside. Before the main course, we ordered a Caesar salad and gazpacho soup. The Caesar salad was very good but the gazpacho soup was very spicy and my wife left the soup after tasting it. For the main course, the three of us had grilled tuna in a pasta dish, shellfish in a pasta dish,and grilled mahi mahi on a salad. Both pasta dishes were too spicy and this obliterated any nuances of the fish or shellfish. We left most of the pasta since it was simply too hot. There was no indication on the menu that the pasta dishes or the gazpacho would be very spicy. The mahi mahi did not taste fresh or was simply overcooked. We were very disappointed with our meals. We will not be coming back for dinner to the restaurant until we have well forgotten this evening. read more

On our annual pilgrimage to the resplendent, quaint town of Lewes, Delaware, one of the highlights that our family looks forward to is the wonderful meals we have had at this charming restaurant. Unfortunately, not this time. On July 30, 2014, of the four entrees and mussel appetizer we ordered, all were good with the exception of the lobster roll and the Striper Bites salad topped off with lobster salad. I explained to my son who ordered the lobster roll that the lobster is delicious in this simplest form and at $15, it should be plenty of the sought after shell fish. I had the green salad topped off with lobster ($15) and was looking forward to this same delicious experience. Once we received these two items, our anticipated enjoyment quickly turned to a huge disappointment as the lobster was excessively filled with canned tuna salad! Not cool! This additive filler took over the delicate flavor of the lobster and brought down the mood of our family meal. Not wanting to embarrass my family or make a scene, I paid the bill but left my remarks on the credit card receipt, as I truly believe the owners would want to know of this menu/kitchen blunder. After walking back to our rental home, I then got on the restaurant website, and emailed the restaurant to further voice my complaint as to how this item was misrepresented on the menu. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive a response, and after paying over $100, this family will not be returning to this once good restaurant. read more

We are locals and have been to Striper Bites often and have always had an excellent meal whether it was lunch, dinner or burger night. Sadly, last night's burger night was a huge disappointment. We always look forward to their burgers and they've always been about the best in town. However, our medium rare burgers arrived looking like hockey pucks and were dry and tasteless. The lettuce on the side was pitiful, one piece of light green iceberg and even the blue cheese wasn't up to par. The cole slaw looked and tasted totally different. We should have sent the burgers back (as the lady across from us did) but since we were with friends we didn't want to bother anyone or take the time. Burger nights are coming to an close for the season but we'll think twice next year before going back to Striper Bites. read more

I can see the appeal of wanting to dine at this restaurant. The location and atmosphere are great, however that's where the appeal ended. The service was okay (nothing negative). My biggest quarrel with this place was that I paid $28 for lobster mac and cheese and got a dish that was completely overpowered by bacon. Now don't get me wrong: I love bacon just as much as the rest of you, but if I'm paying that price for a LOBSTER dish I want to taste the lobster! We ate there this weekend. Very slow when the place was mainly empty early afternoon. Told a couple of big parties ahead of us. A while later told that the wait for food would be worth it. When the food finally came (roughly 45 minutes later) the food was really bland. Fish tacos had no taste, even with the salsa. Other sandwich ordered was bland except for the hot spice on it (only thing we could taste). Not going to go far with bland food with slow service. There didn't seem to be much urgency for the wait staff was playing " tornado" next to the soda/tea dispenser and nobody seemed to be pushing the kitchen. Nacho's okay. Didn't understand the bread we were given. Mussels were good - broth better ... But now they gave us 1 piece of toast each to sop up the delicious broth. That after the original delivery of bread, which for the most part remained unbeaten, was taken away? Scallops wrapped in very salty bacon of which the best part was the seaweed salad. And don't ask for the tap water - even with a squeezed lemon was barely drinkable. Didn't order any wine - by the glass hugely overpriced. read more

Finding myself in Lewes for the day, I decided to go to Striper Bites for lunch. I had been wanting a good crab cake and I wish I could say I had one. The menu had a crab cake sandwich listed. Because I didn't want to mask the sweetness of the crab I ordered it without the roll. When the dish was set in front of me I noticed a side dish of pink tinged remoulade, which was the condiment noted for the sandwich on the menu. I tried dipping my crab into it and didn't particularly like it. But I couldn't figure out why I didn't care much for the flavor of the crab cake either. Then on closer inspection I realized my crab cake was pink inside. Now I realize being from Maryland I have high expectations where crab cakes are concerned. But in all my life I have never been served a pink crab cake! The reason for two stars is my server did a very nice job and the restaurant was clean and aesthetically appealing. I will return again, but please think about changing your crab cake recipe! read more

Went to Striper Bites for lunch when we learned that Agave wasn't open. The menu looked appealing. We were seated right away; the restaurant wasn't overly busy for a Sunday afternoon. We sat for about ten minutes before the server realized we were his table. It appeared the servers rotated tables as they came in, because they were taking tables inside and outside. We skipped appetizers, and went straight for entrees. My husband and son ordered burgers. I ordered the "Signature Sandwich", the Striper Bites Club. Our friend ordered the Wedge Salad with Salmon. Drinks came, and then we were forgotten about. Two other tables came in after us, were greeted by different servers, and had paid the bill before we got our food. And that was only with asking twice where our food was. Our server offered no explanation when we finally got up to ask him, only saying that it would be out shortly. When we finally did get the food, it was horrible. The fries weren't cooked. The burger was sub-par. My "signature sandwich" was dry, and needed more sauce. My friend's salad was supposed to have the dressing on the side, it came on the salad. The salad was the only decent meal served. Our server never returned to check on the accuracy of the order. I finally asked for the manager, who gave the lame excuse that the kitchen didn't realize the printer in the kitchen wasn't working. It worked for all of the other tables, just not ours. I told him his excuse was not acceptable and that we should have at least been told of the delay; the server should have made sure that our order was being made, and he totally dropped the ball. read more
