My friend and I came here for wonderful ramen and awesome conversation. The waitress was friendly and fast. The ramen, Sui Gyoza veggie and Stringria summer passion fruit were all delicious.
We (two adults, two older teens) went to Chinatown for a weekend of being a tourist in our own state. We planned our restaurants carefully and hit the city. We invited our two adult daughters who were living in the city at the time. Our original plan was to eat dinner someplace else but that plan fell through when we found out our reservation didn't stick and there was a two hour wait. We walked down a street a little bit and found Strings Ramen Shop. My family was glad we did! I am a pretty small eater; I usually do not order my own meal and take bites of what my family orders. I think I am lucky because I usually get to try so many different things. The hubby ordered some appetizers and everyone ordered a ramen of some sort, except for my son, he ordered the Kani Don and STILL talks about it being of the best meals he's ever had. The restaurant was pretty crowded... we were there on a very cold winter night; all the coats and people made it a little claustrophobic.... No big deal though, the food was a hit!
Love Ramen Noodles and Rice Bowls? You've got to go to Strings Ramen! Love fresh ramen noodles? Strings Ramen makes fresh ramen noodles daily, in-house. We started our meal with fabulous Sui Gyoza (boiled dumplings). Both Pork and Shrimp. For drinks, we have the refreshing and delightful Stringria and Summer Passion Fruit Stringria. The seafood and Kura Buta was simply amazing! The Duck Chazuke was incredible! (Only available at their Chinatown location). But the favorite of the meal was the Belly Buster Bowl, trust us, it's really delicious! Make plans now to go to Strings Ramen asap!
It's Lenten season, so I've been making more of an effort to explore restaurants with solid vegetarian options throughout March. This time, I checked out Strings Ramen Shop at 2141 S. Archer St. in the heart of Chinatown. You really can't go wrong with a good miso ramen, and Strings is a cute, cozy spot surrounded by so many great Asian dining options. I was looking for something quick and comforting, and this place delivered. I was seated right away, and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable and accommodating throughout my visit. The space offers a mix of individual seating and booth-style tables at the perfect height to sit back and enjoy your meal. I ordered the miso ramen with a side of kimchi. The bowl came packed with mushrooms, noodles, corn, and other vegetables, with the option to add a boiled egg (which I skipped this time). I also tried the veggie boiled dumplings, and they were just as delicious. The ramen was flavorful, satisfying, and exactly what I needed. In fact, I've already been back twice, which says a lot. While I'm looking forward to trying some of their chicken and beef options in the future, their vegetarian offerings definitely hold their own. If you're looking for a cute, quick ramen spot, Strings is a great choice. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Bowl was packed with so much meat. It was really good and definitely worth the price. We got sat in the back which is not as aesthetic as the front part of restaurant, but service was still fast and we got our food at a reasonable time. J definitely recommend trying this place.
Absolutely loved this spot. The vegetarian ramen options were flavorful, comforting, and perfect for a cold day. The Hell Ramen had a great level of spice without overpowering the flavor, and the dumplings were so good. Everything tasted fresh and well made. Even the Japanese sodas were a fun touch. Such a cozy place for cold weather and definitely worth checking out. I would 100 percent come back.
ON A CHILLY WINTER NIGHT, the Tonkotsu (creamy pork bone broth) ramen dish feels just right! Made with 100% handmade egg noodles, the most popular Ramen option is the TONKOTSU RAMEN. The slice of pork belly or pork loin is quite thick. We usually order the pork belly as it has more flavor. The broth could be a bit more flavorful, but we usually add a few condiments. PRO TIP: the egg noodles tend to be a bit firm, so we asked them to cook the noodles longer. The pork dumplings are good, but you could probably also buy it at a Chinese market (frozen), and make it at home. It's the sauce that makes the dumplings special. PRO TIP: once you're done with the dumplings, feel free to pour the remaining sauce into your Ramen dish to add more flavor. The Customer service is always pleasant, the wait time is not long for the food, but there may be 15 to 20 minutes wait time to be seated as it's quite popular. Please note that this restaurant does NOT validate for the Chinatown parking lot which gives you three hours for three dollars. Their fruity drinks are nice, but the dried fruit bits are a bit odd.
I wanted to try the hype about Hell ramen since a while now and I finally was able to get my hands on it! My friend and I visited Strings on a weekday. Despite being a weekday it was pretty packed and we were asked to wait for 15 mins to get a table. We ordered a vegetable gyoza for apps and shared a vegetarian Hell ramen (level 2) The gyoza was served in a bowl and dipped in soy sauce. It was definitely my favorite, it had soy filling which was healthy as well. My friend and I thought we could not handle level 2 spice however we were wrong, it wasn't that bad at all! The ramen had wood ear mushrooms, baby-corn, bamboo shoots and green onions. The broth was based of seaweed which was quite different than the ones I've had before! Overall, a great ramen place in the city and everyone should give it a try! The ambiance is kinda small, but typical like any other Ramen place. They seemed pretty short staffed as our server was juggling multiple priorities, but nothing too bad in terms of our experience!
Visited this location while in Chicago for work. Very small restaurant but it was cute and quaint. I started with the veggie dumplings..they were fantastic! Moved on to a steaming bowl of Ramen. It was satisfying but the pork could've been a bit more tender. The broth had good flavor. Nice, no frills place to grab a quick, hot bite. There's street parking as well as lot parking across the street.
This is a cute little ramen shop. Ill start off by saying if you have an allergy please confirm with them. They helped me not get "dairied" since I have an intolerance. The service was quick. The food is pretty delicious. The only weird thing is that they do not have chicken. They have turkey instead. The ramen was still flavorful and you get a decent amount. I would eat here again, but it wouldn't always be my first go to. The only downside about this spot is that there are a lot of ledges. We had a stroller with us so it made it a bit challenging. The inside is also rather small so definitely not a bring a stroller kind of place. Now I know for next time. If you want tasty ramen I do recommend giving this place a shot. Even their boba type drinks are tasty!
Stopped in here after arriving at O'Hare. Definitely hit the spot as it was cold out and late in the evening. They have a good selection of ramen and other options as well. Small spot but good amount of seating, so we did not have to wait. The food came out quickly too.
From One Piece* can't wait to go back to this place!! Will update when I go back, but wow why would I say Naruto xD I still remember how great their ramen is!

Solid ramen spot if you're in the area! I found the broth flavorful and noodles to be just the right amount of chew and thickness. However, I wouldn't say it's anything super spectacular or out of the ordinary. Overall, it is well priced for what you get. Service is also quite quick, which makes sense since they're usually quite busy during dinner time and want to turnover as many tables as possible. If you're planning on coming during lunch or dinner time, I'd highly recommend putting your name on the list early, as it can take awhile to get seated. read more

Delicious! I'm typically a Ramen-San girl and I was hesitant about trying a new ramen place... We visited around 9pm on a Friday night. There was a 15 minute wait. We stood outside and waited until a gentleman came and got us. Once inside we used the QR code at the table to view the menu. We both agreed the websites menu is more helpful than the QR link from the tables. The food was out very quickly! We both ordered the Hell's Ramen. I got level two and my hunny got Level 3. The level three was a little too hot for our liking but the flavor in both bowls was amazing! The portion size was also awesome! Def will be visiting again. read more
It was too warm for ramen so I got the vegetable gyoza and spicy cat rice which were just as delicious and filling. The sashimi bowl was actually spicy too, not too much but you could definitely taste it. The vegetable gyoza were actually a delightful surprise, i could have had bowls of that alone. Highly recommend that! The staff were friendly and efficient and although the restaurant isn't that big, the ambiance is nice and cozy. Definitely try stopping by if you're in chinatown! read more

By far one of my favorite ramen spots. Had the TONKOTSU RAMEN with KAMO AND KURO BUTA. The pork belly was by far the star of the show. Casual ambiance, quick service, good food. What more could you ask for? read more
This is nestled in a small shop across from the main Chinatown Square. When you walk in, it's a seat yourself place and you can see the menu from your phone. The service was unbelievably quick! We ordered dumplings and got them almost immediately. I also ordered the tonkatsu ramen with the pork belly & duck breast, and it was one of the best ramens I've ever had. The noodles were fresh, chewy, and delectable. Also the broth itself had so much flavor it really didn't need any of the add-ins they leave on the table. Would love to come here again! read more

This is a nice little restaurant in Chinatown. Went for a quick dinner pickup. When you enter, they ask for proof of vaccine which you can show physically or electronically. I had one of their ramen soups. I ordered the miso ramen with kura buta. It was really yummy and a good quantity overall. They have quite a bit of seating if you do choose to dine in. Would def recommend them. read more

4.5 stars. Small shop located in the heart of Chinatown. Stopped by for lunch on a weekday with plenty of seating. Tried the tonkatsu ramen. Overall a very rich and hearty ramen filled with meat and toppings. Personally, probably a little salty and a little too much protein for my personal taste (but who ever complains about that?). Small and intimate. This is not my first time here nor my last. Nothing has changed since they first opened up except their menu expanding. The noodles are still tender, the pork belly and wood ear mushrooms were still the best parts of the dish. The servers here know when to come and go and when to leave you alone to eat. The seating here rotates A LOT. It's always just a few minutes wait. This time I got the Tonkotsu Ramen with Duck and Kuro Buta and the duck was so tender and obviously not dry but even more so throughout every bite. If I lived near here I'd be broke! read more

I came here for lunch on a weekday and this dish came out just a few minutes after ordering! I got the hell ramen level 1, which felt like "medium spicy" to me. I liked the variety of toppings and textures (pork skin, ground meat, mushroom, clam). Ultimately I think I prefer tonkatsu but this was super fun to try (especially if you like spice)! read more

We got Tonkotsu Ramen Premium (large white bowl, left corner), 2 Tonkotsu Ramen with Kuro Buta (one with pork belly & other with pork loin), & Kuro Buta Yakisoba (Pork). Food was great! Lots of flavor and that pork loin melts in your mouth! Would definitely come again. Service was also great! We did come right when it opened so we were the first ones there and it did get busy pretty quickly. The place is kinda small so I can see there being wait times if all seats are taken. read more

This is a chain which has a location in Chinatown. It has bright/cozy vibes and is not large. I dined in here. I have gotten takeout from Strings, I believe, but it was not that great because, well, takeout ramen just tends to not be as good because you really need piping hot broth and noodles that are put into the broth at the right temperature. Fortunately I was able to dine in during this trip. I got the tonkotsu ramen - a classic. The broth was great because it is a good balance between salty/fatty. The noodles were on the firmer/chewier side. You can see in the picture that the broth is pretty clear but there is just the right amount of oil/fat at the top. They did ask for a choice between pork belly and pork loin, which I really liked. Most places do not ask you. I prefer pork belly. The portions were very generous - one of the most generous I've seen, and the pork belly was very buttery. Vegetables: The kikurage mushrooms were wide cut and good. The menma and green onions were also good, as expected. seaweed was slightly less crispier than I hoped. The two kinds of sesame seeds were a really nice touch. Egg: good texture but could be more spiced. Service was good - water was a pitcher that you self poured. This is good because ramen can get salty so you need water frequently. On the side, the person who came with me got a clam/pork rice thing that was really good. The texture was good and the portions were again large for the price. I enjoyed Strings Ramen Shop and I recommend this place to readers. 4.5 stars read more

First time here: always saw this place but never ate here before. Bf got the Tonkatsu Ramen w Kuro Buta (aka pork belly) and I got the Miso Ramen w Kuro Buta. The miso is more thicker and savory than the tonkatsu which I enjoyed. And the noodles were springy and portion sizes were perfect. The server kept checking in with us which I appreciated and the ambiance was dark but still cozy and intimate for a date or for a hangout w a friend or two. read more
Wait time was quick for a Saturday afternoon. This place is one of the best ramen shops I've been to! Food came out very fast as well. Didn't have to wait more than 8-10 mins max. I ordered the Level 1 Hell ramen with egg and usually I can tolerate spice but man, this was a kicker. If you like heat but not unbearable heat I would recommend getting a level 1 or 2. With the level 1 I was able to finish the whole thing comfortably. My bf ordered the Shio Turkey ramen and loved it! We also got the pork gyoza as an appetizer and it was delicious. I definitely recommend Strings if you're in the mood for QUALITY ramen. You won't be disappointed!! read more
This place is very busy, which is a good sign that the food is good! We got two different types of ramen, both were good. I had pork belly which was good, but there was just one piece in the bowl. It wasn't really a big piece either, but it was tasty. I would probably go again, but some of the tables make it really hard to get in and out of your seat without disrupting everyone around you. read more

Stings, with a name like stings, the noodles must be a highlight. To start, we came in for lunch on a Tuesday. It wasn't busy when we walked in, but almost full when we were done. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The menu is done by those dumb QR codes. I would much rather have a physical menu to look at. The restaurant was clean and had a nice ambiance. To start I got the gyoza, and damn was it good. Nice steamed dumplings and in a nice sauce. The menu says spicy sauce but spicy it was not. It had a nice subtle kick to just say "hey I'm here to rock your world." For the main course I got the Tonkatsu ramen with pork belly. The broth was delicious and filled with topings. The noodles were nice and stringy. It was like having a string quartet playing in your mouth. The pork, oh the gelatinous fatty goodness was spot on. Overall I was satisfied with my meal. Now I know you're all asking about the bathrooms. Unfortunately this place is getting 3 plungers. It's a 4 plunger bathroom thats just an eye sore with the graffiti laced decore. It was clean and spacious for a wheelchair though. They are also gender neutral if that matters to anyone. There is a small back patio that had 4 little huts with seating aswell. Overall it was a good lunch and I'd come back again. read more
A nicely decorated, chill ramen shop in the Chicago Chinatown area that serves just alright ramen. I wasn't too impressed by the broth and the noodles were alright. Food Coming to Chicago for the first time and trying all kinds of burgers amd steaks left me craving some asian food. And ramen is one of my favorite. Compared to other ramen that I've had, Strings was a below average spot for me. I wanted to go all out and got the Super Premium tonkotsu ramen. The Super Premium has kamp while the Premium does not. The noodles were okay, but the broth was not very good. The broth wasn't as rich as I expected for a tonkotsu and watered down. Atmosphere Casual and a great spot for just hanging out! The inside looks very Asian with the lanterns hanging from the ceiling and the wooden tables and chairs are a nice touch. Pricing Pretty expensive for average to below average ramen (mine Super Premium was about $21), but not sure if this is standard ramen prices in Chicago... I've had better ramen for $5 less per bowl in the Seattle area. Service Service was good and the server was very nice. We had the option to either sit indoors or outdoors but given that it was a sunny day we went for outdoors! Other Looks like mostly street parking around here. read more

I was craving ramen and this was highly recommended. We came around 6pm and luckily there wasn't a wait. It was a paperless menu. We scanned the menu with our phone. There were so many options for food. I ended up with Tonkotsu broth with pork loin. The broth was so so good! Not overly salty but definitely still very flavorful and rich. The broth was delicious and filling! The noodles were so yummy! I could tell it was fresh ingredients. The pork was tender. They did not skimp out on meat. For $15, I think it was a very filling meal. The servers were nice and food came out very quickly. I'm glad we stopped in!! read more

MY FAVORITE RAMEN IN CHICAGO!!! I always get the kamo and kuro buta tonkatsu ramen with pork belly and duck breast. It never disappoints. I stick to the Chinatown location which is a small, quaint, space so there's usually a wait- but it's well worth it. I recommend getting the hell fire sauce on the side (I usually get level 3/4) and the green melon pop to make your meal complete. The service is a little slow, but always very very nice. read more
This is probably my favorite ramen shop after wasabi and takeya. Not because it's authentic Japanese but probably closer to Chinese or just really good as it's own version! I personally like the soup's flavor. Egg is perfectly soft boiled. Pork belly is tender and fatty. I love the straight, slightly firmer noodles as opposed to the typical yellow wavy noodles. Pretty good. This location is just a few blocks away from the heart of Chicago's Chinatown and is sandwiched between two considerably larger buildings. In fact, I couldn't believe it when I found the building--and there's more than one reason for that (you'll have to see for yourself)! That's not as important as the food and service, though. We had awesome service here with the waiter who promptly seated us and took our orders. I got the Shio Ramen with Turkey and I thought that it was VERY well prepared. When I added in their hot sauce (which apparently has ghost pepper in it), I knew I was having something good. The only downside I found was within the noodles. I thought they had an interesting texture and taste that doesn't quite go well with the broth and the rest of the dish. The other ingredients are great! On top of all of this, it's surprisingly affordable. I walked out of there feeling that I had a solid dinner. I can see how it's one of the top ramen shops in Chicago! read more
Food here is okay! I honestly don't have much to say about it since there wasn't anything bad but nothing spectacular either. If I'm in the area I'll stop by again but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for a ramen fix here. Sui Gyoza (3/5) Pretty standard boiled dumplings in a spicy ponzu sauce. Hell Ramen Level 1 (3/5) The broth was flavorful, but the taste of the pork skin was really strong. It was a little too much in my opinion, but next time I'll just ask for less of it in my dish. Tonkotsu Ramen with Duck and Kuro Buta (3.5/5) Pretty good! The broth had a strong green onion flavor. Good amount of meat and toppings. read more

Definitely try and order more noodles bowls and don't just try only noodles. Try the rice dishes also and appetizers.
