I finally made it into Strings Ramen, and yes, it was just as good dining in as it was as takeout. The restaurant is in a great location, right as you're entering Chinatown before you hit the bigger crowds. I arrived just before the lunch rush, and although it filled up quickly, the staff did a great job accommodating everyone who came in. I ordered the Tonkotsu Black Garlic Ramen, and it was delicious. The broth was silky, the pork belly was meaty and flavorful, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The restaurant itself is simple and doesn't try to be over the top. We (two adults, two older teens) went to Chinatown for a weekend of being a tourist in our own state. We planned our restaurants carefully and hit the city. We invited our two adult daughters who were living in the city at the time. Our original plan was to eat dinner someplace else but that plan fell through when we found out our reservation didn't stick and there was a two hour wait. We walked down a street a little bit and found Strings Ramen Shop. My family was glad we did! I am a pretty small eater; I usually do not order my own meal and take bites of what my family orders. I think I am lucky because I usually get to try so many different things. It's Lenten season, so I've been making more of an effort to explore restaurants with solid vegetarian options throughout March. This time, I checked out Strings Ramen Shop at 2141 S. Archer St. in the heart of Chinatown. You really can't go wrong with a good miso ramen, and Strings is a cute, cozy spot surrounded by so many great Asian dining options. I was looking for something quick and comforting, and this place delivered. I was seated right away, and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable and accommodating throughout my visit. The space offers a mix of individual seating and booth-style tables at the perfect height to sit back and enjoy your meal. I ordered the miso ramen with a side of kimchi. The bowl came packed with mushrooms, noodles, corn, and other vegetables, with the option to add a boiled egg (which I skipped this time). I also tried the veggie boiled dumplings, and they were just as delicious. The ramen was flavorful, satisfying, and exactly what I needed. In fact, I've already been back twice, which says a lot. While I'm looking forward to trying some of their chicken and beef options in the future, their vegetarian offerings definitely hold their own. ON A CHILLY WINTER NIGHT, the Tonkotsu (creamy pork bone broth) ramen dish feels just right! Made with 100% handmade egg noodles, the most popular Ramen option is the TONKOTSU RAMEN. The slice of pork belly or pork loin is quite thick. We usually order the pork belly as it has more flavor. The broth could be a bit more flavorful, but we usually add a few condiments. PRO TIP: the egg noodles tend to be a bit firm, so we asked them to cook the noodles longer. The pork dumplings are good, but you could probably also buy it at a Chinese market (frozen), and make it at home. It's the sauce that makes the dumplings special. PRO TIP: once you're done with the dumplings, feel free to pour the remaining sauce into your Ramen dish to add more flavor. The Customer service is always pleasant, the wait time is not long for the food, but there may be 15 to 20 minutes wait time to be seated as it's quite popular. Please note that this restaurant does NOT validate for the Chinatown parking lot which gives you three hours for three dollars. I wanted to try the hype about Hell ramen since a while now and I finally was able to get my hands on it! My friend and I visited Strings on a weekday. Despite being a weekday it was pretty packed and we were asked to wait for 15 mins to get a table. We ordered a vegetable gyoza for apps and shared a vegetarian Hell ramen (level 2) The gyoza was served in a bowl and dipped in soy sauce. It was definitely my favorite, it had soy filling which was healthy as well. My friend and I thought we could not handle level 2 spice however we were wrong, it wasn't that bad at all! The ramen had wood ear mushrooms, baby-corn, bamboo shoots and green onions. The broth was based of seaweed which was quite different than the ones I've had before! Overall, a great ramen place in the city and everyone should give it a try! The ambiance is kinda small, but typical like any other Ramen place. The food is pretty delicious. The only weird thing is that they do not have chicken. They have turkey instead. The ramen was still flavorful and you get a decent amount. I would eat here again, but it wouldn't always be my first go to. The only downside about this spot is that there are a lot of ledges. We had a stroller with us so it made it a bit challenging. The inside is also rather small so definitely not a bring a stroller kind of place. Now I know for next time. If you want tasty ramen I do recommend giving this place a shot. I came here on a late Friday night with two of my girl friends. One of them had been here before & raved about the ramen. It wasn't too busy -- we only had a 10 minute wait despite it being a Friday evening and a small restaurant in general. We all order the pork gyoza and I would go back just for that. They were served soft and in a really good sweet/spicy/tangy sauce. So delicious. We each got a different ramen. I got the Shio Ramen with Turkey but because it was the day after Thanksgiving, I subbed Turkey for pork belly. It was super delicious. The broth had so much umami flavor. The pickled ginger added such a good flavor and the toppings all worked so well together. The only thing I wish would have been better was the pork. It was pretty dry, but they did give a lot of meat so it was nice. One friend got the Tonkotsu black garlic, which was also very flavorful. The other got the Tonkotsu with pork (which was my least favorite but still very good). All of the ramens had lots of umami flavor and did not disappoint. Came in right when Strings Ramen shop opened at 11am. Definitely the right call, since it looks like right at 11:30am the line started to form outside. Inside it's very hip and had a Tokyo style feel. There's also a small seating area strip if you want to sit outside. You scan a QR code to see the menu, but still see a waitress if you decide to sit and take your order. The service was very quick. We had the Hell Ramen - Level 1 (not brave enough to try their challenge!), Tonkotsu, and the Pork Belly Buster rice bowl. I have to say that the Pork Belly Buster was definitely my favorite dish, it's a huge slab of pork belly cooked to be tender on the inside and with a nice brown sugar crispy crust on the outside - perfection! The noodles were all really fresh, and the broth was not super thick, very tasty. They also give you the option to order extra noodles if you find you want more to add to your broth. If you do that, then easily the one dish could feed two people. read more
