As we were driving by again we remembered our experience and stopped in. We spilt the chicken fried steak and did a side of 2 eggs. It was perfect and filling. We had the same server - Mary. She was attentive, friendly, and fun. We told her our story and as we left she said "See you next year!"

Not great. The sampler was super greasy, clearly from frozen, and just a hot mess in a basket. The…read morefleishkuechle was interesting. We heard it was a specialty to North Dakota and tried it. We were not impressed. It almost seemed undercooked... The shining star of the night was the knoephla soup. It was delicious and my husband and I had wished we had only ordered that. Another specialty of North Dakota. You could taste that it was homemade. I would come back only for that, but I don't think I will be coming back. I'm not sure about anything else on the menu is worth having. I could be wrong though. The burgers and breakfast might be better. The service was probably as bad as the sampler though. No friendly greeting and our server never checked on us. Our drinks never got refilled. It was a ghost town in there at this time, so he could've at the very least refilled our drinks. He called from the other side of the restaurant to ask if we were ready for the check.

I'm sure this place is usually much busier, but I'm happy I lucked out. The staff were so friendly and attentive from the second you walk in, with such a warm welcome by the host. The restaurant felt cozy and still had plenty of diners despite the cold. I had the beet salad with goat cheese and pecans, and the bison braised short ribs. Both were excellent. I make a similar beet dish at home, so it was nice to have something simple, comforting, and genuinely delicious -- it felt like eating at home. The beef was incredibly tender and fell apart easily with just my fork. I also had the vanilla crème brûlée for dessert. It was pretty good, but it was cold, and I usually prefer it a little warm and smoother. Not quite the cozy dessert I was hoping for. That said, they had a great dessert selection, and I'm excited to come back and try something else.

She was on point with the drinks and serving. Sometimes I did not know she was near until the plate disappeared or the glasses filled. I had the ND bison short ribs and hubby had the walleye. Both delicious. We both chose the dill mash potato. I am thinking that maybe a fondant potato would pair nicely with the bison short ribs but all in all in was a very nice experience for our anniversary. Thank you!

I've even made my own from scratch with very good results. But I must say: The Walrus blew my mind. Their presentation is absolutely fantastic. The cakes are meaty, just-right-crispy and delicious and they are served perched on a bed of gorgeous greens. The greens are lightly dressed in a lovely vinaigrette and topped with perfectly roasted veggies and feta. YUM! We also ordered the artichoke and spinach dip. Delicious. AND served with plenty of yummy crostini for dipping. So many places skimp on the dippers, and it's always annoying. Not so at The Walrus. Service was prompt, friendly, attentive and efficient. If I'm ever back in Bismarck, I'll be campaigning for a return visit. Until then, I'll be dreaming about those crab cakes.

I had the Cajun Tetrazinni, and it was great with every bite. With the food being great it sure was nice to have the host and my server match the food excellence! Great job! Warning I will be back!!! Thanks Much.
