My guy at the bar was awesome. Food was fantastic. If you want some extra activities for the family, I highly recommend.

We are repeat customers - we were here last summer driving through. We stopped and had a memorable…read moremeal and great service. As we were driving by again we remembered our experience and stopped in. We spilt the chicken fried steak and did a side of 2 eggs. It was perfect and filling. We had the same server - Mary. She was attentive, friendly, and fun. We told her our story and as we left she said "See you next year!"

Not great. The sampler was super greasy, clearly from frozen, and just a hot mess in a basket. The…read morefleishkuechle was interesting. We heard it was a specialty to North Dakota and tried it. We were not impressed. It almost seemed undercooked... The shining star of the night was the knoephla soup. It was delicious and my husband and I had wished we had only ordered that. Another specialty of North Dakota. You could taste that it was homemade. I would come back only for that, but I don't think I will be coming back. I'm not sure about anything else on the menu is worth having. I could be wrong though. The burgers and breakfast might be better. The service was probably as bad as the sampler though. No friendly greeting and our server never checked on us. Our drinks never got refilled. It was a ghost town in there at this time, so he could've at the very least refilled our drinks. He called from the other side of the restaurant to ask if we were ready for the check.

Continuing our motorhome trip to escape the Texas heat, I had scheduled us to be in Bismarck (our…read morelast stop before heading home) for our 52nd wedding anniversary. After some research, I made reservations at Pirogue Grille. Glad I did. It felt nice as soon as you walk in. We were warmly greeted and ushered to our table. All tables had white table cloths and covered in white paper. There are crayons on the table so you can draw. I thought it a bit odd, but my wife enjoyed drawing. Being a former Marine, I fought the urge to eat the crayons. Service was prompt and efficient, but our waitress wasn't interested in small talk (which was OK). We ordered pre-dinner drinks; my wife had a Cosmo and I had a lemon drop martini (yes, I did...I sometimes order these for a pre-dinner drink). We both agreed that the drinks were some of the best we've had. I had the pork chop and it was EXCELLENT. I had thought I could scrap the chutney off, which I did a little, but it offered a great taste combo. My wife had the shrimp and said they were excellent. The entire meal was perfect for our anniversary. Entrees could not have been better. We had planned to have the dessert flight (small portions of all the desserts) but we could eat no more. Our server brought us a small dish of caramel popcorn. Just right for a bit of sweetness. We really enjoyed everything about the grille and highly recommend.

Apparently, if you don't show up for your reservation that they charge $400. When we arrived, our table was ready and we were quickly seated. The wait staff seemed very attentive and gave great recommendations of items on the menu. So much of what they had looked delicious especially the fall seasonal items. Everyone got something different and seemed to enjoy their meal. Prices are pretty steep (about $75 per person) but it is one of the nicer restaurants in town.
