Cranberry Orange Pound Cake
Dana S.

This is the coffee shop that I take all my friends to. I have lots and lots of good things to say about everything I've tried. The biscuit sandwiches are heavenly, the avo toasts are heavenly, the baked goods are heavenly, the drinks are heavenly. The biscuits are so rich and soft, but not heavy, and the sandwich fillings are fresh and interesting. I'm really into the pesto on the Mediterranean, which is more textured and less oily than most pestos, and the olive mayo on the Veggie is really interesting. The scones are the same baked goodness as the biscuit, and the cakes have a great moist crumb and vibrant flavour. Their menu is full of more uncommon flavours which is fun. They have the semi-elusive turmeric latte (also used to have beetroot, but unfortunately no more), and they'll do tea mistos and "traditional" matcha (matcha and water, no milk). There are more specialty drinks but these are what I most appreciate. I take off a star with some hesitation because some things are so expensive. Some of the sandwiches/toasts are $7-9 which is definitely reasonable, but then the more complicated things are $13.5, which seems like a lot. They're not small portions and they include a side salad if you eat in, but this still seems like it's pushing it. Some of the drinks are average pricing: 8oz mocha for $5.75, 8oz matcha latte for $6. It's easy to spend a good amount of money here without realizing it, although there's definitely an argument to be made that the quality is high and you get what you pay for. The inside is nice, there's a good amount of seating and nice lighting with all the windows. It's very minimalist. I like the dedicated no-laptop tables (laptops are allowed along the counter and long table in the middle). The patio, is fenced off and really nice. They recently revamped it though and added some couch seating and a swing, and while it's visually pleasing, the swing doesn't seem practical at all to me. It seems like you wouldn't actually want to drink anything on that, and it would be hard to eat too because there's nowhere to put your plate. I wish they'd used that space to put another table or lounge-type seating. Mostly the staff is very nice especially recently, and they're patient if you need some time to process all the options. The vibe in general seems to always be pretty positive here, even the other customers have been friendly. It's a good space whether you're looking to do work alone, chat with a friend, or just enjoy a quick meal.

Matcha cream puff
Kit Yee Y.

First time here. Love this coffee shop. It was not too crowded here. The ambience was very comfortable that I could hear noisy but not too noisy. I love they sell cream puffs with different flavours. A barista recommended the vanilla and matcha cream puffs. I went with the matcha cream puff and it was so good!! They used real and strong matcha powder for the cream. The cream puff was not too sweet that the flavour was about right. I really enjoyed eating it. I also ordered a latte. It was very smooth and the coffee flavour was about right. I went to their washroom. It was really cool! It had a red sink! It was very unique that we don't usually see a red sink in a washroom. The coffee shop has good decor. They use black, white, grey colours with red as an accent. If I am in the neighbourhood again, I would love to go back and try other beverages and food here. One last thing I like about this coffee shop is that there is a long table in the centre. Whoever uses laptops at this coffee should sit at the long table. These people with laptops should save the tables for guests who really come here for a coffee and food.

Ham and cheddar breakfast sandwich on fresh biscuit
Lindsay K.

Great coffee and amazing breakfast sandwich on a freshly-baked biscuit! Friendly service and nice interior. Taking off one star just because of the price - I think the sandwich was $14. While it was huge, I'd rather have had a smaller sandwich and a smaller price tag.

Came here after I saw Ig cream puffs. This cafe style is modern minimalist. A long communal table in the middle. A rows of seats along one side of window. And a few tables to fill the place. Lots of people are here on their computer. I only had the strawberry cream puff. It's delicious. Light in texture and sweetness. Perfect. Will come back to try their coffee and savoury scone next time

Green tea cream puff $4.50

Tried the green tea cream puff with an Americano. The cream puff was not too sweet and a nice small dessert. I enjoyed this but truthfully, the green tea cream puffs from beard papa are bolder in flavour and the Beta5 ones are more substantial and filling. Overall, the cream puff just lacked that "wow" factor for me. Coffee: They use jjbean espresso (eastside) beans which is strong and dark in flavour. Staff were extremely friendly and courteous. Nice addition to the neighbourhood; would come back if in the area.

Avocado toast, Mediterranean breakfast sandwich

My partner and I ended up here after our usual brunch spot had a long line we weren't willing to wait in. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there were several brunch options on the menu in addition to the typical coffee and pastry cafe offerings. He got the avocado toast and I got the Mediterranean breakfast sandwich, and both were equally tasty and very flavourful. The highlight of the experience was the bread - the avocado toast was made on a delicious, fluffy focaccia slab, and the breakfast sandwich came on an oversized buttery biscuit. Vancouver in general seems to have a biscuit problem where they're usually kind of bad, and so this was one of the best biscuits I've had in the city. I did find this to be somewhat overpriced for a cafe where you order at the counter and pick up your own food; at $30 before tip for avocado toast and a breakfast sandwich (with no drinks) this was definitely closer to upscale sit-down restaurant prices. Even so, the quality and flavours were impressive, so don't let the price be a dealbreaker if you can afford to splurge on breakfast!

Absolutely the best cream puffs I've ever had! Superb! The pastry was flaky, fresh and of perfect consistency and the cream filling was perfection. Had the combination vanilla and chocolate cream. Mmm mmm!

Stopped in on my search for the best espresso in Kits. Not as good as "Pane from Heaven" because I didn't find it as smooth and creamy. It was strong and a little bitter. Little more expensive @ $3.10 for a double shot. What caught my eye, was how open the space was and how bright. Also, I noticed the baked goods. I noticed you can purchase day old baked goods in prepackaged bags for a discount price. There is also a tasty sounding food menu that that I would like to taste sometime.

We didn't stick around as we were on our way to the Pacific Spirit Regional Park trails. However, the setting of the café was enchanting enough for me to come back with my husband two days later for Sunday breakfast. We ordered our americanos, breakfast croissant, and breakfast sandwich and found a table in the courtyard outside the chalet-looking building of the café. There is small park in the courtyard along with about half a dozen tables. It was still rather early on a Sunday morning before 0930. It was quiet but neighbours were starting to emerge for their morning coffees, yoga stretches and dog walks. The americanos were rich. Good sign before we tasted our coffee: they were not served in mugs, foamy, and dark. Our croissant and English muffin sandwiches were pressed. My croissant had cheese and turkey slices with an addictive spicy jam. The English muffin halves of his egg and ham sandwiches were so pressed that they did not resemble English muffins. However, he said it was so good with its texture, greasiness and flavours. I think I'm going to get that next time.

I instantly remembered the ones from Grounds for Coffee! I could practically smell the cinnamon and sugar in my mind--I knew I had to have one! I stopped by for dessert around 7 pm and asked for the cinnamon buns to be warmed up. It was perfectly ooey-gooey, and the amount of icing was spot on. The overall flavor was well-balanced (not too sweet, in my opinion). I paired it with a black drip coffee, and alternating between the sweet treat and the bitter coffee was just what I needed. We sat at a nice side table and played some fun word games while we ate. It's a cozy place to spend time and enjoy a sweet treat. I would highly recommend this local favorite if you're like me and are always down for a warm, gooey cinnamon bun!

The aesthetic of this cafe is contemporary and very visually clean and cute. I don't know if I can compare their bubble tea to any other bubble tea shop in the city because they use such fresh ingredients mixed with high-quality tea and the end result is absolutely delicious. In just the past week I've had the chance to drink three drinks including today's not too sweet, more subtle chrysanthemum sunrise which has grapefruit chunks. Their Garden Milk Tea was super tasty with rose syrup was gulped up last week but our ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE is the Passion Fruit Vanilla Float. This drink has the perfect mix of that passion fruit punch, with the bubbles of soda from the sparkling water, sweet chunks of aloe vera, and that creamy touch of the vanilla cream. You also get the passion fruit seeds mixed in with pearls (if you order their amazing pearls) and it's seriously the BEST drink. You won't be disappointed. I've had the chance in months pass to try the matcha strawberry with strawberry chunks and it was amazingly delicious too so my top two recommendations are the Matcha Strawberry or the Passion Fruit Vanilla Float! The barista was very friendly and eager to talk about the menu. She checked to make sure my drink was sweet enough when she gave it to me and asked how everything was as I was leaving. Asparagus & asiago quiche: The quiche itself was okay - I liked the flavour but it kind of had the reheated texture - but they put some fresh arugula and black pepper on top which was very nice. Mocha cookie: Top tier cookie. Nice coffee flavour, not too sweet, perfectly crispy but not crunchy. Lychee latte: Just steamed milk and lychee flavour, no espresso. I asked for half sweet, and there was just enough lychee flavour to get the essence of lychee without making it a very sweet drink. Although I didn't try the coffee, this does seem like a good place for coffee nerds. They have different varieties of brewed coffee you can try in store and beans for sale.

It's a very hot weather, so we ordered an iced dirty matcha. The owner who was also the barista asked if we knew what the dirty matcha was. We said yes. It was coffee + matcha powder from Japan. Once he prepared all the ingredients, he asked us to look at the coffee matcha in a cup. He poured it into a cup of cold milk. We grabbed the beverage and tried it right away. It was GREAT!! It tasted fruity coffee matcha flavour. He worried some people would taste the bitterness, so he asked if we would like to add syrup or sugar. We did not need to add any sweetness to ruin the original delicious flavour. The original flavour was the best. I would recommend people to buy coffee from this coffee shop. The owner paid attention to details and made good coffee. This was not my first time to have coffee here. I had latte and one more coffee beverage here in the past. They were all good. LOL again I would not choose Tim Hortons or Starbucks coffee IF I have a choice.

This place is especially known for their mochi donuts, which have a really interesting texture, very chewy with a bit of crispiness on the outside. I'm generally not a huge donut fan, and this version is still a little greasy, but the texture is definitely unique and worth trying at least once. We were surprisingly the first customers of the day, which was great since the line is usually pretty long (it's a pretty hyped-up spot). Avocado Benedict ($22) 3/5 I ordered this for a lighter take on bennies, but in my opinion they added way too much hollandaise. Combined with the avocado, everything ended up tasting overly rich. The eggs were perfectly poached though, and the tater tots were also nicely crunchy. Mortadella Sandwich ($15) 4/5 My friend, who loves this place for brunch, said this is her favourite menu item and I can see why. I feel like it's underrated since most people go for the bennies or the chicken pancakes, but I'd highly recommend this instead. The texture combination is great: thinly sliced mortadella, an egg layer that almost feels like a crepe, and crispy onions. The tobasco sauce also helps balance everything out and makes the dish feel lighter.

We also tried a poached egg plate with crispy tater tots, super comforting, and the sauce was rich without being too heavy. The other dish had a generous topping of fresh greens and a creamy element underneath, which made it feel balanced and not overly "brunch-bomb." Drinks were great too, my iced matcha was smooth and not overly sweet. Why not a full 5? It can feel a little pricey for the portion sizes, and it's more of a "treat brunch" than an everyday spot.
