Formerly happy customer, looking to find a new place ASAP. Storage Corner Half Moon Bay WAS once a locally-owned business (Coastside Self-Storage) and I would give them 5 stars when that was the case. Unfortunately the sell-off to Storage Corner (A private equity firm) is following the typical trajectory of most private-equity takeovers: Squeezing the customers for every possible penny. Shortly after the takeover, Storage Corner began sneakily adding a "Storage Protection Plan" to every account. This is marketed like insurance but it's very cleverly NOT called insurance, because they want to skirt California's regulations around what insurance actually must provide for the money. They're legally required to remove this fee if you prove you have insurance coverage on your belongings already - but they will require a copy of your insurance plan to prove it and then the DAY that plan expires, if you don't take the initiative to reach out and provide a new copy for your renewal, they just silently add the protection plan back onto your account. Three weeks after I complained and warned them that this practice (auto-adding services to a recurring card payment without explicit consent) is likely illegal in California, they raised the rate on my storage unit by 45%. I'm not sure if they raised everyone else's rates too (I suspect yes, given it's a private equity takeover) or just want me to go away so nobody calls them on their billing BS, but it's clear the direction that customer service is headed in. read more

Coastside Self Storage hasn't been under the new management long, but there have been some really nice changes already. I don't go to my storage often, but my office is in a building on the same street as three of their structors.. There has been workers all over the place fixing things. They have upped the security system with new keypads on both the entrance and the exits. And fixed a lot of the lighting.The best part, you actually get to speak with a person when you call during business hours!! I can't believe how that is becoming more rare. Melanie helped me figure out the new code system, and told me about some of the other security measures. I've seen the cameras all over, but it was news to hear that some weren't working before. It is very reassuring that there's someone behind the camera. I would highly recommend the improved Storage Pro on the Coastside. read more

Storage units are clean and show no sign of water intrusion or pests. Brenda responded very quickly to my query and equally quickly got me into an available unit. Brenda is both friendly and professional. The units are inside a code-controlled fence. You can drive a car or uhaul truck into the collection of units. Two recommendations: Call as soon as you are considering a unit as this place is in demand. Secondly, use a disc lock, which are nearly impossible to cut open, as opposed to a more traditional padlock, and are specifically designed for storage lockers. You can get them at the office or buy them online. The ones at the office are very good and very well priced. read more

Coastside happened to have a storage unit that opened up the morning I called, so I was very lucky. Units are a hot commodity along the coast in this area and I had a really hard time finding anything. Coastside is under new management since the last review, and the new couple running it are wonderful. Very fast call back. Very helpful. Very reasonable price. And full security. The rolling doors are superficially rusty, but they are right next to the water, so you have to understand why with the salt water. Inside is clean and perfect. I have been a renter for over ten years and have had no problems with the facility or the management. The facility is well maintained and security of the site is good. I have had units in two separate locations of the facility (started with a small unit and was able to get a larger unit later when needed) and in the time I have have been a customer, I am unaware of any break-ins. I would recommend coastside self storage to anyone needing storage on the coast. read more

Save yourself and your possessions and go anywhere else. First, the management is a joke. They do not return phone calls if they are full. That includes current as well as potential new renters. This also includes if your storage locker has been broken into. Then they will lie to your face about having called you. I had to drive there on numerous occasions to actually talk to someone fact to face since my phone calls went unanswered and it took 5 tries at different times of the day during their so-called business hours to actually find someone there and not a "be back later" sign. When I finally made contact, I was informed that they are over 90% certain who is breaking into the lockers and that it is a current renter. Apparently every time he resides in his locker, this happens. Now we sign a rental agreement saying that we won't do this and they use that same rental agreement as a reason why they are not liable for our locker being broken into. However, this person is allowed to stay and have access to everyone's locker so he doesn't even have to circumvent their laughable security features. They haven't bothered with security cameras despite multiple break-ins but yet our rental fees have gone up yet again. What those are paying for, I have no idea. So go anywhere else and protect your belongings. They are not safe here and the people could care less so long as you keep forking over $$$ every month. Thankfully we'll be moving everything out soon but at this point, I don't know how much has been broken and stolen. read more
