Typical Stop & Shop grocery store. I was in this part of Providence and I needed to get some canned goods for a recipe I was making. Their selection of groceries was very good, most shelves were fully stocked and the lady working the register was quick and friendly. I love checking out their weekly ad when I walk into the store for sale items, which I also do by looking at the mobile APP. If you spend 5 minutes before getting into the store to do your homework on the mobile app, you can save some money on coupons and discounts that can only be found on the mobile app. Lots of parking. read more

Their loss prevention associate is delusional.Thinks he can have people's cars towed from the parking lot and approaches them off the clock outside of the store, threatening with no coinciding information of any kind to do with store shopping i live very close by and go in there 223 times a week.Because I don't like to have a lot of stuff in the house.And i'm out there one night, changing my tire cause it went flat.And he tells me that he's gonna have my car towed, because it's illegal to work on cars in parking lots.First of all, there's no sign anywhere in the parking lot that says that you can't work on your car.Secondly, i'm pretty sure that changing a tire doesn't really count as "working on a car" no, idea if he actually does work for them cause when I asked him to show me credentials, his response was to threaten to call the cops, which he never did. read more

Ghetto. Dirty, ignorant workers and they sell you old stale food and when you make them aware of it, they don't care at all. The price of food is way to high for anything to be old or stale. Management says they will contact you to inquire more and fix the issue, and that never happens. I moved away from this area about 3-4 years ago and thank God I don't want to deal with this disgusting, smelly location anymore. I went here to grab a few things since I was visiting someone in the area, I knew in my mind don't stop there. But I did and that was my fault, I knew better. So the one star goes to the poor people that work at stop and shop. The company treats it's customers like they're doing them a favor. The only grocery store that charges customers for paper bags, demote the executive that implemented that idea, and charges a service fee for on line orders, only chain that I do business with that charges such a fee. digital coupon system does not work consistently which leads to grumpy customer exchanges with staff. I use it as a convenience store because stop and shop prices are only competitive with the local convenience stores in my neighborhood. So if you want to be treated like servants to their executive by all means continue to shop there, however there are higher quality lower cost options where the staff is pleasant. read more

Not a favorite venue but convience of location for quick trips makes it viable. Prices are high, availability of product not great and they are very unpleasantly stafffed. We as a result shop at Price Right in Johnston or make the drive to Market Basket in Attleboro, MA for our full shops. They better step up the game as they are building a Market Basket in Johnston RI, or they will close! read more

Nice location. Had more options then my regular location. Some differences in prices, for example milk was a lot more expensive than my regular S&S. I did, however pick up some great deals on meats, and it was a Sunday!! Overall very happy with my first experience here, and very happy with what I purchased. read more

Can I just say how nice Jim- one of the managers is here!!! I had a gift card for Stop & Shop & decided I wanted to grab a few things prior to the Super Bowl. I was purchasing a bunch of fruit and food platters and had completed the transaction when I realized that I forgot to purchase the balloon my son was holding. Since I had forgot about it- I was just about to kindly tell my son we would have to wait until next time when Jim (the manager) went out of his way to purchase and give my son that Patriots Football Balloon! To me Jim went above and beyond his job description and it was also a moment I will never forget. Sometimes it's the simplest of things that make the biggest impact on your heart. He pulled at my heart strings that day- for sure. He also helped me become a consistent customer at the shop and shop at which he works. Not sure who is upper management at this Stop & Shop but CORPORATE take notice- Jim went above and beyond his job description and made a little bit- very very happy! read more

Compared to other stop and shops I've been to, I really can't complain about this particular location. They are fairly consistent in what they have available and I never have any trouble getting fresh produce. I come here once a week and it's always a painless experience because I try to go during non-peak hours to avoid the crowds. Prices are fair. Although I understand stores must carry products according to the demographics of the neighborhood, it seems to come at a cost to different ethnicities. In my case, Italian. S&S seems to have reduced the variety of products that i normally purchase. Their higher pricing only makes it easier to take my business elsewhere. read more

I'm not S&S's #1 fan, but this store is pretty OK. Price Rite is cheap, but has crappy meat and produce. Whole Foods has wonderful produce and meats, but costs an arm and a leg. S&S is like a happy medium... decent produce and meats, decent prices. Recently they did a semi-remodel, so it's really nice inside now. They expanded the meat and seafood area and put in more refrigerators and freezers in the back. I went in recently for a holiday ham, and they had SO MANY... on sale too! I also like shopping here because of the gas rewards. One time I got like 30 cents off per gallon. So awesome. The employees here are kind of apathetic, especially the cashiers. However, the people that work at the deli, seafood and meat counters are usually pretty nice. If you're nice to the deli dude, he will probably give you a slice of cheese. I also have to say that this is not the most glamorous location. There are some regular patrons of this store that are legit crazy and walk around talking to themselves, and there's always people hassling you for money outside, whether it be an aggressive panhandler, kids asking for money for their football team, or the Salvation Army. I don't carry cash ever, so I always feel super awkward walking in and out of this place. read more

On a down note, the meat is very below average. I have bought bad meat twice from this particular location, and I have now decided to only shop there for other items only. I shop at this Manton Ave. Stop & Shop quite frequently only because it's the closest one to my house and I prefer Stop & Shop over any other market, with the exception of Whole Foods/Dave's Marketplace, but I don't always have $100 to buy just a few items. This particular location is fairly ghetto-trashtastic. Overall, the store isn't bad... it's definitely older and could use a remodel to spruce up the surroundings, but overall it's fairly clean and they usually always have everything in stock that I am shopping for. The cashiers aren't very friendly, but that can be said at just about any Stop & Shop I've ever been to. The prices are good, the produce section has a decent stock, but not nearly as much as other stores offer and I feel like the deli is consistently packed with customers as there is always a line. There are other conveniences that come along with the Manton Ave. location such as the Stop & Shop gas station which is also usually always busy, however; the prices just can't be beat. Also, there is a car wash which is not affiliated with Stop & Shop but I stopped going there when the owner increased the cost of the vacuum from $1.00 to $2.00. Overall, not a totally bad place. 9 out of 10 times, I hear and/or see the crazy old man who walks around scaring the other patrons due to his yelling about how awful the music is that they're playing; it's so awkward and uncomfortable at times, that I just can't help but giggle. read more

Despite a recent "grand re-opening", this S&S has gone steadily downhill. More and more I take the drive to the Atwood Avenue store rather than suffer the wilted produce, drug deals in the parking lot (haven't seen the security patrol car in months), aisles crammed with displays directly across from one another, and lack of cashiers. And never a manager on the premises these days. Twice this month at approximately 2 PM both times, I witnessed nonchalant drug dealing out of a white car parked on the side of the market on the left. Two guys seated in car, other cars pull up, one passenger gets out, enters rear seat of white car, small (yeah, I know what's in that tin foil I was young once too ) package passed over the shoulder and quickly snorted. Dealers look like classic crank types, emaciated, white, knitted cap pulled down over eyebrows, Breaking Bad wannabes who glare at anyone who sits in his/her car observing as yet another users car pulls up and the same scenario is played out. I got nuthin' against entrepreneurs - but find yourselves a less conspicuous spot. The "re-modeling" did solve the years long problem of the produce being watered by a sprinkle the volume and consistency of Niagara Falls but, sealed bags of spinach are still sold old and wet and unbagged greens' weight multiplied by smelly liquid from the sprinkers As a store classified as "inner-city' , even tho it's on the border of Fruit Hill, non sale items are often priced higher than suburban markets to make up for the shop-lifting (which is what a former manager told me a few years back when I noticed peanut butter and cereal prices consistently higher than Atwood Avenue). I took that "explanation" not as proof the customers were any more prone to five finger discounting than any other store, but that corporate discrimination was going to assign higher prices based on the demographic despite the realities of theft rates. This is not an American company, as we all know S&S is run by Dutch conglomerate Ahold (or is that Ahole?) - what do they know or CARE about Manton Avenue? Really, I go here because it's close and I am lazy, and because the average worker here is over-worked, but pleasant. It's not their fault on the third of the month at noon there are only two check outs open, that on the day of the new sales circular, items are not in stock, and that the parking lot meth dealers are getting more and more aggressive since the Aholds decided to cut security from the Netherlands. read more

So this Stop and Shop has a few different things happening: a market, a gas station, and a self-serve car wash. The market: It's a hit or miss. The variety of food has been slowly decreasing, while the curt customer service has been rising steadily. Mostly processed and conventionally grown food. I live down the street for almost ten years, and I can tell you that there have been plenty of times that I have not gone there for months (once for a year) because I witnessed/was involved in something horrific. The gas station: Definitely has some of the cheapest prices around. Just avoid the commuter hours. The car wash: Very cheap and convenient. The shining star of this location! read more

This is the grocery store I'll come to in a pinch, but I would much rather go to the one on Atwood Avenue if I have to. As others have mentioned, the parking lot is sketchy, and the inside really isn't kept that clean--despite the remodel. Also, as you probably know, every Stop and Shop has different selections... and this one really has a small natural foods selection, and the produce isn't so great. I really don't make a point to come to this store, as it's not like Atwood Avenue where there are a lot of staples and adequate produce, or Lincoln where the produce is wonderful and I can get the gluten free items I need. This store is older-looking than the ones in Warwick and Seekonk, but it has everything you need. The aisles are nice and wide and it's very easy to navigate through the store even on a Sunday afternoon. Produce is pretty standard and the store also has bakery and deli counter. All the aisles were fairly well stocked and checkout was painless. Having a gas station on the property is very convenient. Rack up your Stop and Shop points in the supermarket and then use them on our way out! Works perfectly. read more

So this is currently the Stop and Shop that I frequent, and I must admit that I genuinely like it. Sure it's not as nice as the Greenville Stop and Shop that I used to go to, but the staff at the Manton S&S are friendly and accommodating and for the most part, the store has everything I'm looking for (today I broke my spring form pan and needed one in a pinch and they didn't have it-ended up having to go to the Johnston S&S and they had it). So there a couple of things that I really like about this S&S. One is that the people who work there are pretty nice, especially the baggers and the people in the meat department. On 3 separate occasion when the weather was absolutely disgusting I've had baggers/carriage people assist me putting my groceries in my car (I didn't ask and I never would have, but I thoroughly appreciated the help). The staff in the meat department will happily cut steaks or any other type of meat to your desired thickness. They are awesome! Another thing I love about this S&S is that you don't (at least I don't) run into a million people that you know making your shopping trip 200x longer! I find that to be awesome. So yeah, I really, really like this S&S PS they just remodeled and have a seafood department again! read more

This is the closest grocery store to my apartment. And I am more than okay with that. This is by no means a Wegman's, but it is decent as far as grocery stores go. Typically, unless it is the beginning of the month, everything will be in stock. It is not usually hard to find some help. Or too busy. There is a gluten-free/organic/healthy food section near produce. There is also a solid international section, whether you are looking for Goya products, Peruvian soda, or some Belgium cookies. I like this Stop N Shop much better than the other one on Atwood Ave. My friend and I have been treated very rudely by the Atwood store, but not on the one on Manton. No one here has ever been rude or shown an attitude. Any staff I've interacted with have always been pleasant. The store is very clean and the service, like the deli is fast and accurate. I have no problem finding items and am always pleased with what I buy. When I go to Stop N Shop, this is the one I go to. As for delivery, which I see is a survey question, you can use Peapod. There is never anyone in here and yet I always have to wait in line for a very long time. There are very few registers ever open. The food isn't fresh. There are never shopping carts or baskets and when there are they are filled with trash. I drive farther to go grocery shopping elsewhere even though this is the closet store to my house because I know it will take longer to wait in line, find food, and a clean basket. Worst customer service ever. I love walking distance and I would rather drive to Lincoln to go to the stop and shop there. I've made numerous complaints to the store manager who never responds unless I go right to corporate. Every now and then I go back to see if it has improved at all. As I was writing this review the bagger, Tiffany, was standing there talking to the cashier and not bagging. I said excuse me and started bagging. She responded " I can do that." To which I relied well you weren't. She immediately coped and attitude and said " it was too far up the belt". Are you kidding me? Aside from the piss poor customer service and horrible management, the parking lot is a sea of shopping carts that just sit there, and there are only handbaskets on one side of the store. Stay away from this place unless it's a emergency It never fails. I went back today in a pinch. The store has a wandering idiot yelling about the music, no hand baskets anywhere to be found, carriages all over the parking lot like an obstacle course , and bag my groceries while the piss poor staff stands there looking at me. The self check out girl with the curly hair, glasses and piercings is so nasty (to me and other customers) I've called S&S corporate multiples times about her. My least-favorite location to date. It's really old and tired looking inside. Their produce isn't the greatest and I often can't find what I'm looking for. Their meat department is really lacking, too. The selection is limited and they don't have a lot of the higher-end items I can get at other locations...for example, no Boar's Head bacon :( Stop and Shops tend to be good at catering to what the customers in the area want, so maybe these just aren't my kind of peeps. Since moving to Rhode Island I've been non-plussed by this grocery chain, and this store in particular. From the unintuitive aisle categorization to the inconsistent stocking practices, I am always exhausted after a trip to the Manton Avenue S&S. Many times I have counted on them having an extremely common item and emerged from the store frustrated and empty handed. Not only that, it is frequently the most expensive stop (price per item) on my weekly grocery tour. While the deli service is fast and professional (unlike at the Price Rite), the deli items themselves are shockingly overpriced. The fresh produce is unremarkable, overly watered and alternately lacking in variety, quantity or quality. Their natural food selection is a joke -- Eastside Marketplace puts them to shame in both price and selection. Five different kinds of A++ organic cruelty-free tuna but I can't find a danged bag of oat flour?! It seems like the employee turnover is constant. While the cashiers are generally pleasant, they are often unprofessional -- not greeting and/or continuing to shout a conversation over my shoulder with staff at other checkouts, trashing other workers or the management. I seldom have good luck finding someone to help me on the floor; it seems as though if staff aren't avoidingmy eyes or practically running away upon contact, they are copping gigantic attitudes and/or pawning me off on another unhelpful soul. One Thanksgiving as I maneuvered the crowds around the poultry section and examined the turkeys, I noticed that some had stickers advertising super-low price reductions with a Stop & Shop card, while others had stickers with a less impressive "low" price-per-pound with a $25 purchase (not including the turkey) and a Stop & Shop card. I dug around and found a turkey that was supposed to cost me $12 simply for presenting my card. I was PSYCHED. I got to the checkout and the turkey rung in for three times as much as it was supposed to be. I pointed the tag out to the cashier and she agreed that my price should have been $12 for the turkey. The manager was brought in and he tried to tell me that the promotion they were running in the flyers (I don't look at their flyers) and the sign near the turkeys (what sign? I was busy avoiding the elbows!) were advertising the $25 purchase promotion. I told him that not only was I unaware of that promotion, but I purposely sought a turkey with the lower price because the stickers had two different promotions. He tried to insinuate that I was trying to get away with something, and it took my mentioning the situation's resemblence to "bait and switch", the Better Business Bureau, and finally questioning whether the turkeys like the one I had chosen with the better prices had been in the freezer since the Thanksgiving before, for him to give in and give me the turkey for the price on its sticker. Aside from the super-late hours, the convenience of its location, and the Stop & Shop gas station and the car wash being in the same plaza, this store is a gigantic pain in the buns. read more

If you like to use coupons, this is not the store for you. Even though it's the closest store to my House, I would actually rather drive farther to avoid going here. EVERY time I go here and use coupons they treat me like a criminal. I have had to pull up THEIR coupon policy and read it to them off my phone for them to believe that no, I am not trying to get away with anything, I am following their guidelines. I doubt many of the employees could read on their own anyways. Very poor customer service. Actually the branch ave location which is even more ghetto has nicer employees! April 22, 2pm went to get medication for my dog because she get seizures, the pharmacist was super nice ! Love her ! Then decided to buy cake for my little cousins bday .. On my way to the self check out and I was ready to go to a register to check myself out ...which is far away from ppl because of the 6ft rule and coming from across the self check out is a clerk that over looks that area and she like no ! Not yet ? I'm like okay they're practicing more than 6ft so I'm waiting than this man comes up with a basket full of stuff and she extended her arm in front of me and makes a little path for the man "go right away sir" ...so I'm like what ?!? Did she just let him go in front of me ? So I'm looking at her in disbelief and she's like oh well I guess you can go you only have one item ... so I just placed my cake down and begin to walk out the store . And she's like you can go now .. I'm like no thanks and she's yelling I can ring you out .. like I'm all set . What the hell was the point of that ?!? What is going to her mind ?
