It's tough for me to write this review. There are two very distinct and different views of stoney's for me. One part of me wants to give them a 5 star rating for being a great neighborhood bar with great beer and good food. The other part of me want's to give them a one star rating for total a-hole's that work here. I have settled on a 4 because I truly believe that one or to bad apples shouldn't spoil the bunch. The good: 1) usually a really solid beer list with a few Macro's to please the masses. 2) Hands down the best grilled Ham and Cheese around. 3) Their kitchen is always open late. 4) It is a really regular heavy neighborhood bar. The bad: 1) If you don't know what your doing in here you can really rack up a tab. Being an educated consumer in this place can really go a long way. 2) Can get really busy with some drunk douche's late on weekends, but what place doesn't? 3) some of their staff is downright rude and aggressive. I know full well that most places have some aspect of all of the good and all of the bad. The difference is that this place seems to keep their dead weight hanging around. I have spoken with countless regulars of Stoney's and they all sing a similar tune; "if this person or that person is working, I will just walk out." I don't get that train of thought. If you consistently have staff who are mean spirited, sarcastic, rude, and just an all around a-hole then why would keep them around? To many times that I have been there I have been the target of that bitterness or seen someone else be the target of it. So I have started to take the regulars advice, if the bad apple's are working I walk in and then promptly walk right back out. The vibe is usually great, the beer is always cold, and the food is always good. Just take my, and their regulars, advice. If you see someone being treated bad, leave. Odds are that you are probably next. read more

Definitely a fan of this place. No frills, great bar food, good prices. I go here a lot, and the service and food are consistently good. It can be crowded at certain times, but tables open up quickly (seat yourself) and there's an upstairs. Stoney's burgers are great, and their wings are seriously good: A nice amount of juicy meat, the sauce is fantastic, and you get a solid amount of thick (not runny) blue cheese on the side. I was completely addicted to their wings this past summer and can't compare them with any other wings I've had in DC. Ask for extra sauce. The Buffalo chicken sandwich is a great alternative to the wings---amazing portion of chicken dipped in wing sauce with a good dollop of creamy blue cheese (not dressing) on top. The club sandwich is a real club sandwich---three slices of bread---and the portion is substantial (this is true of all of their menu items). Thank goodness for a regular old bar with great bar food. I wish there were more such places in the city. read more

I love Stoney's because it is happy being what it is: a neighborhood bar with no affectations. Straightforward, idiot-proof decor, a couple of screens to watch a game, solid non-haute-cuisine food, and decent service. The beers are awesome and rotate every time I'm there. MAJOR bonus points for being the only restaurant in the entire area with a kitchen open after midnight. That alone has been the reason for half of my business there! One note on the food though: the pizza is waaaay too salty! I highly recommend Stoney's if you are looking for a low-key place to sit and eat and drink with friends. read more

I finally made it to Stoney's for their much lauded grilled cheese with Alicia C and Jacklyn S and I wasn't disappointed. What I found almost better than the grilled cheese was the laid back atmosphere and the friendly service. Alicia C and I split the sandwich and the waitress without asking brought us two extra plates to make it easy. If I am in logan circle I would certainly call this my to-go destination there. Very casual and laid back bar in the Logan Circle area but not so casual it's a dirty dive place. I don't remember what beer I had but the special I had that night was delicious and actually a steal. When I was here for a friend's birthday, the birthday girl got two free shots and a side of fries. The waiter was really friendly in a casual way and was really good with attending to us - can't go wrong with that. Leave your pretentious gussied-up self at home and stop by this place for a beer or two to chill out if you're in this part of town. read more

I visited Stoney's for lunch in the middle of the work week. We were the only ones there when we arrived, but people were drifting in throughout the meal. I ordered a BLT, expecting a "lite lunch". (Why is it that marketers insight on putting the word "light" on a diet?) What arrived was a slab of sandwich with about three pigs worth of bacon in it. Oinktastic! Service was swift, too, so Stoney's is clearly an excellent place for a relaxed lunch. Plus, PItango Gelato is next door, so you can get your dessert kicks. read more

Great price and selection. We were looking for a place to grab a bite in DC, and came upon Stoney's. Burgers is their specialty, and we were not disappointed. It seems to get packed at night, but lunch was pretty quiet. Their variety of meals was pleasant, and the burgers we had were delicious. The accompaniments were also tasty and diverse. We came here for an early lunch and were disappointed. Seated next to the open kitchen, we were uncomfortable and it was drafty and busboys kept bumping into my chair. The waiter was foreign, we surmised European. He was rude and not attentive at all. He grumped at us when we asked for a substitution of french fries in lieu of potato salad that would have otherwise come with the sandwich and they charge $1 for any change made. After placing our order he just walked off without saying anything. The Reuben we ordered did not come with extra sauerkraut as requested and it was very lackluster and the corned beef was very dull and not on par with a Reuben you would find in any halfway decent deli. Stoney's is a fun place to drink and watch the game, but the food and service is just average. Chicken tenders were overcooked and dry. Ahi tuna sandwich was dry. The mac and cheese was runny -- not cheesy. We had to ask the waiter to bring us water. The waiter didn't check in with us at all to ask how our meal was. read more

Stoney's is a dive-ish sports bar on P Street. At any given time there are all kinds of sports fans gathered around to watch games, as well as people who are there for some beers and food. By far my favorite things at Stoney's are their mac and cheese and cornbread. The grilled cheese is also pretty great. Another great feature of Stoney's is the option to get takeout. If I'm ever craving some late night comfort food, but I don't feel like cooking, the mac and cheese really hits the spot! We tried to order food at the bar. The bartender told us that we had to move and to go sit somewhere else because two people who had gone to smoke outside might come back and might want their seats back. Their seats and drinks were empty and the service was incredibly rude for no reason! read more

Could they give you less fries? I am so glad Stoney's is near my place (especially compared to everything else in Logan Circle). It is a great place for beer and awesome greasy bar food, but they really are stingy with the fries. Had some bad food experiences there recently too. read more

We were walking all day looking at all the wonderful sights. We were craving nachos and tacos. They didn't serve tacos here, so we went somewhere else for that. The nachos we ordered came out within 15 minutes. It was a pretty large amount, which is why we shared. The server was amazing and humorous. First visit today for lunch after hearing so much about Stoney's. David and I decided to beat the crowd and show up at 11:00am. We were greeted with a wonderful smile and fantastic service. Wings were cooked crispy, but unfortunately they only had one type of sauce since it's done with Frank's hot sauce. WE also ordered the Texas burger which was huge and tasted great. I did ask for medium rare but it did come well done. It was good food and great service! We will come back to try other menu items and hit the happy hour deals. read more

Be the best at whatever you do is my motto. This place is top ten in all my ventures! Their Texas burger was on point! The bartender warm and inviting! Nothing extraordinary about the menu but their food was excellent quality! To boot the kitchen closes at 12:45 which apparently is a thing in DC. Go figure. But yeah will be back when I want a decent meal that no one poured truffle oil over to try to conceal the fact they can't cook. read more

So it's just across the street, and that's great. When nothing else sounds good for dinner this is where to go. They have the entire menu for pickup, which is helpful. The staff is terrific and the food portions are huge. I frequently share a chicken sandwich and fries. The food prices are maybe a bit high, but the consistency of the food is worth it. Stoney's is a nice neighborhood joint for those of us who live in the area. There's nothing spectacular about it but it's got a decent selection of beer on tap, the food is good and affordable, and I've never had a problem with the service. It does get crowded on weeknights but most people are locals and the atmosphere is very relaxed. read more

It's okay. Some decent bar food and a beer. Busy, energetic atmosphere. I ate a blackened chicken sandwich that wasn't truely blackened but just a little spicy. More like "the impression of blackened." But who can really pick. We won a Jameson shot glass with a digital die at the bottom and our waiter had a mullet and a hockey hat. That was cool. read more

Great place to grab a burger and watch the game. Its the neighborhood bar that use to be located at 13th and L Street, now its in Logan Circle. Pretty decent service. The burgers are juicy, they do get stingy on the fries but the burgers are pretty filling and perfectly cooked. read more

I can't tell if Stoney's has gotten worse or my standards have changed. The food ranges from OK to bad. The interior is dirty and gross. On a recent visit, we saw a dead cockroach on the floor and alerted our server; it was still there when we left an hour later. Maybe it's still there now. There are 7 million bars in the city, so many of them better than this one. Do not go to Stoney's. read more

I have to say...everytime I have been to Stoney's (which has been quite a few times) I've never been disappointed. For a bar atmosphere I have to say the food is spot on! The burgers are great (hand pressed) and I've also had the open faced turkey sandwich, steak and cheese and the grilled ham and cheese. Went to watch a game recently. Place is not bad inside. Good neighborhood bar look and feel. Prices are not bad for food and drink. Had the chicken and brie sandwich. It was just average. Went here with friends and spent a few hours there. Friendly staff kept the drinks coming. The chicken fingers were delicious and a good size order. There were a million things on the menu we wanted to eat, and drooled as food was being delivered to neighboring tables. We were going to order a bunch of stuff and share it all, kind of like tapas, but the people who were meeting us for dinner were a little more high maintenance and wanted something fancier. So we left and went to a fancy spanish tapas place. After dinner, when the uppity people had left, we agreed that the original plan would have been so much better, and we should go to Stoney's for lunch the next day. Sadly, we didn't have time, but next time I'm in DC this place is a must visit. Also - the waitress told us the chicken tenders were marinated and breaded in house, all the sauces were also homemade, so it's not like it's just tasty bar food that goes from the freezer to the fryer - it's actually the real deal. read more
