Went to Stoney River today for Mother's Day and experienced a lapse of the good service I had come to expect from this great steakhouse. Great steakhouse at a more modest price than some of the bigger name places. The food is consistently excellent. Sometimes it can be a bit loud, but overall I highly recommend if you are looking for a great meal and don't want to break the bank. read more

I was sorely disappointed!! Stoney River used to be my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. It has gone way downhill!! I think the reason is that I believe they were bought out by O'Charley's. They used to have the best salads, steaks, rolls and drinks. The Steak was good and cooked well, but they rest was average at best. Even the inside looks worn and unloved. It used to be a wonderful environment. The only part that has remained the same as years ago is the HIGH prices. It used to be worth it, but NOT anymore. I will NOT be back, so sad read more

Great service. Marginal food quality. I personally don't understand the fascination with their bread, it seems like you're eating a donut. Steak quality was excellent, but I thought it was over-salted. Mashed potatoes were great, mac 'n cheese was just ok. Again, service was out-standing, but didn't make up for marginal food quality. It's been several months since I've been to this particular Stoney River, and I'll probably never go back (to eat anyway). The interior has a nice, new updated décor, and the bartenders were very nice and know how to pour a drink. That's the only positive things about my most recent visit. The steak was awful. It was barely an inch thick and had almost no flavor. I could've gotten a $7 steak from Golden Corral that would've been better. The clientele was questionable and very loud. This was the destination for my birthday dinner. We were seated promptly, and given the menus immediately. Why not more stars? Well, if you want to "dine" out, this isn't the place for you. You will be rushed to submit your order, questioned every three to four minutes, and basically be pushed on to hurry and finish because the line is very, very long. There is no suggestion for dessert, coffee, or anything other than, "leave, please", and of course, paying your check. The food, however, was very good. read more

Food is average to good , service is very poor, they DONT LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMERS!!! I have been to this location many times, and had quite good service, I went there on 10/16/2013 and was very unhappy about the quality of bar staff at this location. I ordered a meal prepared xrare,Which I had ordered before, It came out medium and i started to eat it , the guy leaned over and said "oh that's not rare" I told the guy behind the bar this was fine it tasted great and I had already eaten like 30% of it basically refused to let me eat it and removed the meal from me and sent it back. I was there with a client and found this a little embarrassing since my client was eating his entre and I was sitting there. Fast forward to the end of the meal, I asked how long it would take to order a desert to go, the guy basically ignored me and entered it into the till. I then asked him how long and he looked at me as if I had committed a crime and told me 5 - 10 mins, I said great. Then the desert comes on a plate with 2 forks, hhmmm not on a romantic date, simply here with my client,!!! I told the person who brought the desert over to me I had asked for this to go, they said ok, the bar tender immediately said "we don do these to go they don't travel well" I said please cancel it then. (why didn't he tell me this when i ordered it,apparently he wasn't listening again) He said OK. Once again someone came over with my dessert in a bag to go???? WTF at this point . I paid the bill and left ( leaving the desert behind on the bar, right in front of me in the huge brown bag, since I hadn't paid for it I wasn't going to take something that didn't belong to me. ( I still have my client with me at this point) I get to my car and look at the receipt and the desert is still on there. The bar person was just not even that nice, kind of rude and short, shouldn't even be working there. I will not return to this location ever, the food has been fairly good for this slightly above chain restaurant but that about it !! back to Houston's for sure they ROCK there service is always fantastic and the food has been consistently good for the 15 years I have lived here !! read more

We have always thought Stoney River had the best crab cakes in Atlanta. Tonight my wife and I both ordered take out crab cake dinners. What a mistake!! FISHY smell and taste. Soggy. 10 shells in my first crab cake. My wife got sick 30 minutes after having stomach cramps. Beware, something has changed at this restaurant. This will be our last visit. read more

The General Manager of Stoney River, Duluth, helped turned what was arguably the worst dinning experience into one of the best experiences over this past weekend. My family and I arrived at SR Saturday evening for our 7:30 pm dinner reservation. We arrived only to find that SR was over committed and we would need to wait to be seated. Well, needless to say, after repeatedly checking in, waiting for approx. 1 hr and with 5 families still ahead of us, we decided to leave. I left my contact information for the manager on duty to contact me. The next morning, the general manager called and offered his most sincere apologies. He wanted to know if my family and I would be willing to give SR a second chance to make things right. I responded by letting him know how disheartening this experience was, as we were celebrating a birthday, but we would be willing to give them another chance. This ended up being a GREAT choice on our part. We were greeted by name at the door, immediately seated, welcomed by the GM and given a $$ voucher to put toward our meal. Our waiter was excellent and the food did surpass our expectations. We will definitely be back! read more

With a fantastic expense account, I have had the privilege to frequent the finest Steak Houses in the U.S. In past years, I ranked Stoney River Duluth one of the top 5. So sad to see the cost cutting measures and dumbed down offerings to cater more to the Outback Steakhouse clientele as opposed to the "Bones" clientele. To be specific, there are no longer prime cuts of meat - the incredible "Stoney River Steak Seasoning" has been abolished - The Caramelized Onion Mashed Potatoes have now just a simple topping so a much lower quality offering. The Stoney Salad also has been downsized. Gone is the true Lodge experience - and you now have the feeling of a mid range chain restaurant. Many staff had been around for years, and now only new faces are seen. Please note that they now advertise as a "Grill" to cater to the "Hamburger" crowd. if they had only stayed the coarse - they truly remained Legendary. I really miss the old Stoney River and would have had no issues with paying more for the experience that I desire, however this lower level of quality no longer meets my expectations. read more

I've been to this location many times and for some reason the food recently has been terrible! My steak wasn't cooked to my liking and the rest of the food was cold. Not to mention the fact that it took 45 minutes for us to even get our meals! Do they have a new CHEF? Maybe they need to keep looking! read more

I have been coming to this location for the past 8 years and always had a great meal and service. Last night was the first time visiting under the new management and believe me I could tell from the food and service. This is the first time I have ever wanted steak sauce due to the lack of flavor and tenderness of my ribeye. Under the old management, the server always waited until you cut the steak, taste it and then ask you if it is to your satisfaction. Now they deliver the steak and ask if you need anything else. Absolutely delicious! I recently took some out of town visitors here and everybody loved the place. We had a big group, but they got us in rather quickly even without a reservation. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the filet, but the table tried a bunch of different dinners and nobody was disappointed. We will definitely be back! read more

First of all the hostess are amazing! Whenever you go try to be assisted by Mishela! She helped me with all my questions and gave me the sweetest compliments. Then I was served by this older gentlemen and it was very smooth. Ordered a legendary filet and it was well worth the price. To be honest with everyone - this isn't your capital grille or fine dining steak house. But for the prices you get the quality and good service. Ok, Call me a sucker, but I always try to give any restaurant that I've rated below 3 stars a second chance. I brought my family here this evening for my sons birthday. We went for an early dinner (4pm), the place was empty. The food was just ok. not good not great. Their prices are set at very good and or exceptional/great level of quality. It just isn't there. A couple of minor errors compiled to make an overall poor dining experience. Here they are: 1. Ordered soup that just never showed up, 2. I had to ask for the rolls for the table 3x before they arrived (my kids love their rolls), 3. My wife and I Ordered soda water and lime, instead of a bar serviced soda water they bring a 6 or 8 ounce glass bottle of soda water that they charge $3 each for and after 2 additional requests received the limes. 4. And this is the most annoying aspect of the experience.. We started off by saying that we were not in a rush but from the moment we sat down until the check arrived it was 50 minutes flat. It was like a fast food/rushed experience. This was an over $200 meal that won't be repeated. read more

I will start by stating, our sever, James, was amazing. He was friendly, intellectual, and made my evening special when it wasnt. The food was spectacular as always, especially my house salad I always look forward to eating. However, let me just say, I have never been so disappointed in Stoney River, since they have started renovations. I have been coming in for years, and have never felt so uncomfortable in a place I very much like to visit. The manager on duty, Frankie I believe, didnt even seem to care. He rushed by us, gave us a quick thumbs up and left. I understand easy going guests, but he didnt even stop and say hi. On our way out, I noticed that he was disciplining one of the two hostesses (needless to say very understaffed) in front of the waiting guests. In my opinion, that was the worst experience I have ever had with the management at stoney River. DO NOT GO. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR STAFF, THEY WILL NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR GUESTS. They dont even deserve one star. read more
