Came for our anniversary on Monday night. They are using brand new menu items! I had my heart set on the tomato basil and mozzarella cheese salad; not carrying it at this time. Service was ok; our server was busy tending to the larger parties seated beside us. Extensive drink and wine menu. I ordered the red sangria; hubby had a glass of Malbec. My sangria was weak and filled with ice. Couldn't really detect any wine as I usually can with a great sangria. We had to ask for water. Water was good, very smooth as if filtered. He selected the New York Strip with the 1 lb. Baked Potato. I had the filet Oscar with homemade garlic mashed potatoes. Those potatoes were utterly delicious! We split the 1 lb. Baked Potato. He ordered the house salad with ranch dressing. Ranch had an aftertaste. Crème Brûlée was sinful , very rich and creamy! Overall, it was a nice dinner but we had to send our steaks back; we ordered medium well and both came out very well done. I tried the blackberry jam margarita; I wasn't fond of the flavor. Normally I love this place. But last night it was just meh. The steak didn't have the compound butter melted over the top so it tasted like nothing. I hadn't been in awhile and I noticed the portion of the au gratin potatoes was waaaay smaller than it used to be. Which is fine I had plenty of food. But I was mostly annoyed when I ordered a side of potato to go to take home to my son and the fact that I paid $10 for it I was irate at the portion size. Overall, don't know that I'd come back when there are so many other options in St. Louis. And I live 2.5 hours away to drive that far to be kinda disappointed probably won't happen again. read more

I went to Stony River on a Monday during a business trip. I went with other business associates. First, we did not have reservations but they got us seated anyway so points for that (it was 5:45 so it hadn't gotten too crowded yet). Four out of our five person party ordered cocktails. They said their best seller was the Draper (their version of an old fashion). Two people got that and really enjoyed it. I asked about the "Wall Street" and my server said it was new and if I didn't like it they would make me something else (more service points!). The "Wall Street" was different, but I liked it. One person ordered a salad and it was very large and he said it was good. We ordered our main courses. One person got the burger and fries and said it was very good and cooked correctly. Another person got the prime rib and said it was very good. Another person got the 14oz ribeye and it was good and cooked perfectly medium. Another person got the house specialty, coffee aged fillet. He said it had excellent flavor but he ordered medium and it looked more medium rare. I got the cowboy cut bone in ribeye with baked potato. The baked potato was great and came loaded with butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese and chives. I ordered the ribeye medium and it came well done. It had a great flavor but of course being over cooked made it dry and not as flavorful as I'm sure it could have been. I had a glass of their Quilt Cab with my steak and it was great. If you go to Stoney River for no other reason .....it has to be for the dinner rolls!! I'm not even a bread person and they are AMAZING! They are like deep friend poppy seed muffins served with honey butter!! So good. One little annoyance was that we still had rolls on the table and the server took all our bread plates and butter knives. We order another basket of the delicious little rolls and I used a bread plate and butter knife from an empty place setting next to me. Before I knew it...they took that too and we still had bread on the table. I'm not sure if they are trained to do that, but I think they should stop. So our server comes by and I point out that my steak is definitely not medium. She says "oh no that is definitely not medium". She asks if I want to return it for a new one. I'm there with business associates so I don't want to burden them with having to wait while the kitchen cooks me another steak so I tell her I would rather not. It comes to dessert time and no one has room for dessert. The server tells me she will give me a dessert on the house for my steak being over cooked (more service points!) I told her I just ate a cowboy cut 22 oz ribeye and there was no way. She then asked if I would like a dessert to take with me because my steak was overcooked (again more service points !). But I declined because there is NO WAY I'm eating else tonight after that steak and baked potato and I'm on a work trip so it's not like I can take it home and stick it in the fridge. I said maybe you could just make an adjustment to my bill for the over cooked steak. She doesn't say anything else. She brings the checks back to the table and I notice that no adjustment had been made to my $58 steak that had been over cooked. I mention to the server that it didn't look like they had done anything to take of the over cooked steak on my bill. She said that since I ate all the steak she couldn't do anything on the bill. Now, I guess I could maybe seeing having that kind of policy to prevent people from complaining just to get money off their bill. But, it just doesn't seem to make common sense that you are willing to throw out a whole steak and cook a new one or give me a free $13+ dessert but your not willing to knock a few bucks off a over $100 tab w/ tip (for one person) out of what was a $500 table to take care of your customer. I appreciate they were willing to do something but the resolution wasn't helpful at all. read more

My husband and I rarely eat steak out. He makes the best ones I've ever had, so why order one out? We typically eat at the bar in a steak house and have a few cocktails and not steak! Tonight, we stopped somewhere else to eat and the wait was an hour and I was too hungry for that. We decided to go by Stoney River and see if we could grab seats at the bar. There were a number of empty seats so we stayed. The restaurant has a nice fireplace with some seating by it. It's a nice place to sit and wait for a table. The lighting is fairly dark. And it's pretty loud! We had our worst meal and service there tonight. The bartender/server we had basically paid no attention to us although he chatted with other people. We almost always tip over 20 percent - and then round up. I tipped 20 percent tonight and felt that was generous for the service we received. Their deviled egg appetizer was our favorite - so good! Tonight they were not very good at all and the presentation was nothing like it used to be. We ordered a burger to split and the bun was really hard. Not just a little crispy. Hard! The burger itself was good though. And we waited a while to get that food! They have a little bread basket that holds some deliciousness. Apparently you have to ask for it - at least we did! It may have been the favorite part of my meal. In the past, I would have given four stars. But not tonight. We won't be hurrying back there anytime soon. Their almond crusted trout was perfect and their little bread balls with peanut butter: yum, yum, yum! So delicious. The beef is from creek stone for my halal eaters. The meal was incredible I was so stuffed after. I tried about bit of everything and all of it was so tasty. Wanting a good steak and my sister recommended this restaurant that is near her house. We made reservations for an early dinner and waited briefly. We both order cocktails and became addicted to the poppy seed donut bread. We had the french onion soup and the lobster bisque for appetizers. The french onion was our favorite of the two. Our had the regular cut filet and garlic whipped potato. I did have to return my filet back to be cooked longer as it was really rare, but no issues with my request. I loved the creamy garlic whipped potatoes. He had the chef special of blue cheese topping on a strip with the au gratin potatoes. The topping was a massive serving but was good in small bites. I asked her to repeat my order back, had to correct her several times. Picked up the order and it was wrong. I called to let them know we were missing 3 times. The staff were spectacular...especially the bartenders that took care of me! They were attentive, fast and friendly. And the bread balls they provided were very tasty! The reason for the lower rating was due to the swordfish dish that I had. First, the swordfish was like rubber chicken - way overcooked. And then the sautéed spinach was so salty, it started to burn my mouth, and I love salty flavors! I'd say if they could work on their fish prep - or possibly just stick to beef - they'd be awesome. read more

What a lovely dinner! This place is super romantic and was the perfect spot for a Valentine's Day dinner. We had never been before, so we were excited to give it a try. We started with some drinks and spinach dip. The drinks were great, but the spinach dip was just okay. We would try a different appetizer next time. The bread they give you is delicious though & comes with sweet butter! For the main entree I got the bistro chicken. The chicken and broccoli were great! I got the au gratin potatoes and they just weren't my personal favorite. They have tons of sides so I will just switch it up next time! My boyfriend got the center filet & that was amazing! It had a great crust, I will probably get that next time! The service was great; our server was so sweet & even recommended us her favorite dessert, which we got! Great experience at Stoney River!!! I am dairy & gluten intolerant and our server, Matt, was so helpful with suggestions for swapping out certain ingredients. My salad was delicious and they had a delicious vinaigrette dressing that worked very well. They cooked my ribeye in olive oil instead of butter (one of the best steaks I've ever had!!!!) and gave me olive oil for my baked potato also - this was surprisingly good!!!!!!! We had a great night at Stoney River for my partners work event. We had a set menu so our experience differed a little bit than your traditional menu - but they have a great space to rent out for a medium sized group! On the menu for us we're steak rolls as a appetizer, a salad, choice of entree (between ribeye, filet and salmon), mashed potatoes, asparagus, and carrot cake and chocolate cake for dessert. Everything was delicious. I especially liked the salmon - it was so flakey and tender and had a good crust on top! I'm normally not a carrot cake person but theirs was so moist and the cream cheese frosting was to die for. My only complaint was that everything could have used more salt - but they did have lots of salt and pepper grinders available to everyone was able to add some if they needed it. The service was wonderful. All of the wait staff that was coming in and out of our room were really attentive. One waitress recommended the lemon drop mojito and I thought it was delicious - very minty and refreshing. This would be an amazing spot for a nice date night out, I will definitely be back to check out their full menu! read more

I ordered the wedge salad and the regular center cut fillet cooked medium rare and for dessert we shared a crème brûlée. The wedge salad was a little light on the fixings. The portion was a little larger than normal. It came with 2 dressings, blue cheese and an Italian vinaigrette which was tasty. The steak was cooked to medium rare. I like my steak to have a good crust on all sides and this steak didn't have it which added to the lack of taste. The steak needed to be seasoned properly. I chose asparagus for my side and the stalks were thin and a bit overcooked. The crème brûlée was a larger than normal serving and the custard was very smooth and it had a great taste. The sugar glaze on top was unfortunately super thin. The best food item were the rolls. They were very warm and soft and they had a cinnamon sugar accent. Julia was our server and she was phenomenal. Our table was right next to the bar so when you make reservations make sure you specify you want a table away from the bar. I tried to move tables but I was told they were totally booked even though we saw open tables. Very disappointing. Out shopping on Black Friday we missed our turn into one of our favorite restaurants and found a new one as we were looking for a place to turn around. This Steakhouse is inside the Chesterfield Drury Inn. I had seen someone on facebook mentioning how good their food was recently, so we ate here instead of turning around. Every. Single. Thing. Was. Delicious! Even the water was tasteless, clear ice cubes. There were REAL candles on the table and a high-end pepper grinder. I was fascinated after seeing all these things I love, but never see outside of my own kitchen. There was a double-sided fireplace at the entrance/bar. The wedge salad had two types of salad dressings, a creamy blue cheese and a sweet vinaigrette. One of the best Ive had. The rolls were savory and sweet like a fried beignet with honey butter and a touch of cinnamon. We devoured 2 baskets of them. The steak was a bone-in Ribeye we shared. It was charred and cooked medium-rare to perfection. We passed on dessert due to Thanksgiving leftovers sitting in our fridge. This dinner topped off our night. As we left I saw they serve Sunday brunch, offering fillet and eggs for $22 and lobster roll. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is tip top here. Can't wait to come back! read more

We went here to celebrate my birthday this year. When we walked in we were greeted by a friendly hostess and before long the waiter came by to take drink orders. We had a few questions and he answered all questions in a friendly and knowledgeable way so we all felt confident in our choices. We started with the artichoke dip which quite frankly noobe likes. It had chunks of garlic in it that just didn't taste nice, yet without them the dip would have had no taste. Two people in my party ordered French onion soup (I was one) and the soup was hit bad but very winey tasting. If you like the one flavor you will love this soup but for me it was not a hit. The steaks were absolutely the best though. I ordered the coffee cured filet and it was delicious. As my side I chose au gratin potatoes which also were delicious. My daughter got the filet Oscar and the first time it came out it wasn't cooked though. It was quickly taken back and replacedbhy a steak at the two she had ordered. This literally was the only service relates problem we had. Another person had the bone in ribeye which he loves and both kids got a kids steak which was a generous portion for the kids. My daughters parmesan fries were really good and the carrots in brown butter hit the mark with some of my party while others didn't care for them, but this was not an issue due to the number of people and the various sides we all got, everyone was happy to switch or share. Our waiter acknowledged my birthday right away as when making a reservation it does ask if we are celebrating an occasion. I was also given a piece if chocolate cake, this was unexpected and as we had brought cupcakes I think my whole party ended up nibbling on the cake lol. When we lit by candles I was wishes a happy birthday by there nearby waiters who were also very attentive to their tables I have to add this simply because I noticed and it was great to see such good service. Overall, I enjoyed this meal and restaurant and would recommend it to others. I would go back for a special occasion but given that it is pricey it will not be a place I go frequently. Special treat to have dinner at an upscale steak restaurant, Stony River! I really enjoyed the food and excellent service! A full variety of beverage selections, starters, broad menu with sandwiches, meat and seafood specialties, tasty salads and an ambience with dim, romantic lighting, traditional steakhouse heavy wood atmosphere. If you crave a fine Angus steak and their signature 'sides', especially the ONE pound baked potato, it's worth a visit. Overall 4.5 experience for me, I recommend making a reservation whether small or large group. And expect to spend $20-50pp for dinner depending what you order. Because we came for steak entrees, we opted to share a House salad to start and skip appetizers; one dinner salad was plenty for two in my view, and all their dressings are house-made, from Chunky Bleu cheese, Buttermilk Ranch to 1000 Island (my choice). Excellent and freshly prepared. For dinners, we had a Regular (10oz) cut Filet and a small Prime Rib. Both were prepared perfectly as ordered and were tender and flavorful! For sides, each came with a potato, so we had the Au Gratin potato and a "load it up" ONE pound baked potato, wow! By the time they added cheese, bacon, sour cream and butter, THE Baked potato was twice the size of my Filet! All food was served hot from the kitchen, amazing meal! We also added a side of creamed spinach to share, plenty for two. Lastly, their dinner "rolls" with honey butter melted in your mouth. Eat these with your salad, or have it like a "donut" dessert. For the price, $68 for one person... my steak should not of tasted nor looked like this. Do you have any idea how disappointing it is to drive 20 minutes home to open your meal and discover it is burnt to crap? I tried to eat the steak.. I promise I did but that char has is EXTREMELY bitter. Inedible. It was a $41 NY Strip ordered Med Well.. which means pink inside.. correct? This was so well done I think it was someone else's steak and they threw it on the grill to warm it back up and put it into my bag. I'm disgusted. And for $7 that's all the asparagus I get? Ok I get it, you're a steak house, but dang. You saw my burnt steak going in the box, the least you could of done was to make sure that I had some edible food right? Like, who expos this stuff? We like to eat at the Stoney River Restaurant every couple of months. My husband and I usually order steak and a few sides. The highlight of my dining experience at this restaurant is always their dinner rolls. They are like little donut holes, and after adding some butter, they are too easy to pop into your mouth one after another. They may not be as appealing to everyone else, but I sure enjoy them. My husband had the Wedge Salad. It was really tasty, with a nice combination of ranch dressing, tomatoes and bacon. I do think the salad needed a little more dressing, because the wedge was so large. Tonight we ordered filets, a petite and regular cut. Both were cooked accurately for the medium and medium well that we ordered. The steaks are served with a pat of herbed butter that contributes nicely to the flavor of the steaks. I ordered the au gratin potatoes for the first time tonight. The chef was a little heavy handed with the pepper for my taste. Our waitress offered to bring me a different side, so I got the sweet potato casserole, which is the side that I usually order. The sweet potato casserole has a crunchy sweet topping, and is a favorite of mine. I will admit that sometimes I have to take this side home, because I have eaten too many rolls! The spinach side has a very thick cream sauce, so don't expect this to be a healthy or lower calorie option. All of the side dishes that I have had at Stoney River are very rich with heavy sauces, or piled high with toppings. The stuffed potato is especially noteworthy for its size and heaping toppings. Calorie conscious diners beware. Their desserts look wonderful, but I'm usually too full to order one. If I'm in the mood for a steak dinner, Stoney Creek is always a good choice. We dined at the Stoney River Steak House in Chesterfield late evening on September 17, 2024. The overall experience was excellent. The food was good, the service was excellent, and the ambiance very inviting, comfortable and relaxing. The entire restaurant was clean and very well maintained. Prices were inline with what you might expect for an upper-end steakhouse. I was personally impressed with the work ethic and level of efficiency amongst the entire staff. Every single person in the restaurant was working hard and moving quickly to serve the patrons. From the hostess to the servers and kitchen staff, everyone we saw was friendly and attentive. As a bonus, the beignet/little donuts are OUTSTANDING! NOTE: The one thing that could be improved on; the steak on the Famous Steak & Biscuits was a little too well done for my taste. Recommenation: Prepare the steak medium as a default and ask the patron if medium meets their preference.
