I really wanted to like this spot, but it didn't wow me. I'm a fan of the Corner Butcher and have been wanting to try this place of the same owner. My husband and I ate here on a Friday night. The atmosphere was not great - it felt like it should be a nicer interior especially for the prices. The tables seemed like plastic card tables with tablecloth on them and the lighting was really dim, with fluorescent lighting. We were sat in a corner that was crammed too close by another table and unfortunately I was bumped into more than a few times - it was hard to get in and out of too. My husband ordered the burger and fries and I ordered a steak. We both ordered our dishes medium but they came well done. They took my steak back and made another, but it took a long time. By the time it returned, his dish was cold. They also didn't ask if his burger was cooked right so he just ate it. My sides were green beans (good) and baked potato (just okay) and it came with a caesar salad (too much dressing). Service left some to be desired. There are lots of food runners and water fillers, it seems, but we didn't see our server a lot nor was my water ever refilled. We had to ask for bread and had to wait awhile for it, as well. The prices especially for steaks are high. I got a 6oz sirloin I believe for $39. With my husbands burger, two waters (no drinks), tax and tip it was a $70 meal. Nothing offered for our delays, incorrectly cooked entrees, etc. Bummer that a nearby, locally owned spot didn't work as we love to support local when we can. If they could elevate some of the above mentioned components to match their prices and provide more consistent quality of dishes, that would vastly help! read more

Haven't eaten here in a while, and not sure why . A casual but upscale restaurant in an unassuming plaza in Fenton. It is owned by the same family that run The Corner Butcher. Last year they combined the butcher store and restaurant in a fairly elegant style. The restaurant is separated into the bar area, then the dining area and the meat shop/butcher store area. The vibe is casual but a little funky/eclectic/upscale all in one. Hubby had the swordfish bites which were seasoned perfectly, and the steak bites - steak wrapped in bacon. Nothing to hate there. I was really hungry so I ordered the Parmesan encrusted 12oz pork chop. The meal was huge! It came with a small salad, and your choice of side. I chose the butternut squash, and was surprised to see it came with a baked potato also. The pork chop was seasoned perfectly and it was really juicy/moist. The butternut squash was cooked "al dente" which was new for me, but really good. The baked potato was a little overcooked, but good nonetheless . They have an extensive drink menu, and specialize in bourbon. They have a bourbon club you can join: $60/month includes a quarterly bottle of bourbon, and 10% off every meal. We've been here a few times because it's closer to our house. The service was great. The food on the other hand is 50-50 depending on what you get I would not recommend getting a steak here. The pork chop we've always liked when we have eaten. This time they only offered us butternut squash as a vegetable . Everyone at the table did not care for it. Wish they offered a second vegetable like green beans or asparagus. Some of our baked potatoes were actually burnt on the skin for those of you that like to eat the skin of a potato. This was one of those, We're Hungry, What's Close? kind of deals. We don't usually frequent this part of the county, but we were doing some shopping and decided to Yelp it. Glad we did. My wife had a delicious shrimp scampi, and I had one of the best steak sandwiches anywhere. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We couldn't stay for the live music, but we would have liked to. Went to lunch with friends recently. The help (Vince) was FANTASTIC ! He was always on time with refilling drinks and other items we asked for. He was a shining star. Now on to the food... I ordered the Classic Burger from the menu, with all the fixings and a side of potato salad. When it arrived at my table, I was thoroughly disappointed with the burger. It was tiny (smaller than a hockey puck) and it was past the point of 'crispy.' The veggies (fixings) were minuscule. Barely any onion, lettuce and the tomatoes were cut from the short end of a Roma. It cost me $15.00. I've seen White Castles with more real estate. I might give it another try... but might be awhile. read more

Finally got to dine at this popular (at least to the locals) restaurant near my house. Reason we haven't come is that it's fancier than the American restaurants we tend to go to for lunch, thus higher prices, but now we know their portions are not small like at some fancy restaurants. We got there around 1:30 pm on Good Friday so the dining areas were mostly empty. I ordered the lunch special, Salmon cakes with sauce & Cole slaw, and waffle fries as my side. Teen son is a burger lover so he ordered a Mix in Bacon Burger --which is a 1/2 lb patty, and he usually eats 1/4 lb -- with french fries as his side. We both enjoyed our meals; I ate 1 salmon patty, all sides, and took the 2nd home for later. Son finished his meal but was stuffed. Would be nice if they offered a 1/4 burger option. This place is somewhat new but it seemed like it might have been another bar/restaurant previously. We made reservations for 6pm, it wasn't super crowded when we went for a Friday night but the bar area was slightly busier than the dining room. We started with the stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were large and packed with flavors. I honestly could have gotten full from an order of the stuffed mushrooms. We didn't finish our appetizer and took the leftovers home. They were still delicious reheated! I had the steak, the ribeye specifically and asked for it to be prepared medium rare. I read a lot of great reviews about their steak prior to coming here so I was really excited. While the meat was well-prepared (kudos, not too many places get this right) and the portion was way more than I can handle in one setting, the steak was a bit bland. Not a bad thing if you're trying to avoid salt in your diet but I like salt and pepper. The brussel sprouts, although prepared not in the way I would have preferred, was actually very tasty. I think they added some bacon or bacon grease? It was good though and I enjoyed the leftovers as well the next day. We did have a nice dining experience. The place isn't at all one of those pretentious steak houses with overpriced meats, requiring you to wear a jacket so they may have the pleasure of serving you. Speaking of service, it was good. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and made sure to check on us at regular intervals in case we needed anything else. read more

My first time eating at CB's Chop House and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Reservation was ready when we arrived and the table was in a nice quiet corner. We had a table of 8 friends meeting for our monthly dinner. Service was great and the menu had a good selection of steaks, seafood and sandwiches/burgers. We had a couple of appetizers and most of us ordered sandwiches. The menu was not real clear on what came with the sandwiches and I substituted a salad for my fries with no mention of an up charge, but when I received the bill there was an extra $3.29 for the salad. As soon as you walk in the service is incredible! My party had the great pleasure of being serviced with Steve aka Brendan. Brendan provided us laughter & polite service! Be sure to go on Wednesday nights as they have live music playing. I highly recommend getting their sweet chili wings. No matter what steak you decided on the kitchen does not disappoint. From the steak sandwich that provided sweet and heat flavors to the NY strip cooked to perfection at medium rare it left my mouth watering for more! I will say the special of day Filet with Mushroom sauce was something I recommend to anyone. This meal left me wanting to return and will continue being a customer of theirs! First time at this restaurant and I sat at the bar and I ordered the classic burger cooked medium well and I chose the soup of the day as my side and it was steak and pepper. The burger had an excellent char on the outside and it was cooked perfectly. The soup was seasoned just right and I really enjoyed the red and yellow bell peppers in the soup. The soup was delicious. There were 3 friendly gals that took care of me and they all did a great job. This is a fun sports bar/restaurant. There's a big parking lot in front of the restaurant. Atmosphere is a bit sparse, and this little hidden gem doesn't look like much tucked behind a car wash in a little strip mall. But they know how to make a great steak dinner at a reasonable price. We enjoyed a sirloin steak that was tender and flavorful along with a wonderful baked potato and some steamed squash. Bonus was an old fashioned smoked right at our table with our choice of seasoned wood chips - we chose cherrywood. We had a charming server and the food arrived quickly. We'll return. read more

My wife and I have been big fans of CB's Chop House for a while now. Most of the food is exceptional but the one area they need to do better on are the steaks. This is surprising since they also sell meat. The steaks lack flavor and they are often on the tough side. Given the prices they're charging the steaks should be much better. I have to say the service at CB's Chop House is fantastic, especially if you're fortunate enough to get a server named Rachel! We also like the ambiance but I think they need to upgrade the furniture a bit if they want to charge so much for their food. We plan on going back to CB's very soon but we may pass on the steak for now. Besides, everything else on the menu is amazing! read more

Visited the CB chophouse to celebrate my birthday. It was a Wednesday and while we made reservations, it wasn't needed. There were plenty of tables available for any size party. Our server (Brandon?) did a really good job serving us, albeit, we didn't have a lot of competition. He handled our drink orders quite well. While it took a bit of time to get our drinks (one busy bartender, I believe), they were tasty and poured nicely. Had a smoked Old Fashion with one of their custom barrel specialty whisky, Bonnie & Clyde. It was vary tasty and strong. Also tasted some of their other specialty whisky's and they were excellent as well. If you are a bourbon and whisky person, be sure and give them a try. Meals included: - Filet with Bourbon Cream, fully loaded bake potato, Caesar salad, green beans - Steak was cooked perfectly. Bourbon cream was a bit a sweeter than I had expected, but very good. Green beans needed a couple more minutes of cooking for my taste. Baked potato was good, but not exceptionally hot throughout. It was a bit charred on the top as I think they were warming it up under a broiler l or something. Still ate it and enjoyed it, but not a standout potato. Caesar was really tasty and creamy. Didn't taste like a traditional, umami heavy Caesar, but I liked it. Overall rating: 3.9 - Parmesan crusted pork chop: Stellar, but similar issue with potato. 4.0 - pork chop special (red wine Demi-glaze w/ mushrooms): great tasting pork chop, but a bit confused as to why this was $10 more than the Parmesan crusted chop of the same portion. The sauce and mushrooms were tasty, but didn't add $10 value in my opinion. We really like the casual ambiance. Even though it has an upscale and costly menu, it's pretty laid back and easy to get comfortable. One bit of constructive feedback - It you get a loaded potato, be prepared to pay extra for just a little bit of sour cream (1.5 tablespoons maybe), cheese (tablespoon) and bacon (maybe one slice worth). I just piled it on one half of my potato as that all was planning to eat. Bigger portions of this would be good considering it was a $50+ dish already. Last time, we rated our overall meal a 4.6. my wife and I both had the fillet steak sandwich. You could not taste the meat because of the overwhelming steak rub and cheese. Way too much lettuce it was greasy. The bottom bun was swimming in grease. The baked beans were passable. The waffle fries were disgusting overcooked and greasy. The other food may be good, but stay away from the steak sandwich. It certainly did not taste like fillet. We will never return. On a positive note the waitress was very accommodating and there was plenty of room between tables and you didn't feel crammed into the restaurant like you do at some of the other restaurants around. read more

If you're looking for a memorable night out, CB's Chop House in Fenton may not be the place you're hoping for. Our party of 14 had advanced reservations with a promise of a private room, yet we found ourselves squeezed in with two other groups. Not the most private setting, but we shrugged it off. The evening started off on a promising note when eight of us arrived early, and they were able to seat us immediately. Our waiter quickly took drink orders, but things quickly began to unravel. When one of us asked about their whiskey selection, the waiter confidently claimed they had "any kind you could want"--only to return twice, letting us know they didn't carry the first two we requested. A similar letdown came when another member ordered a top-shelf vodka, only to be served a well drink, charged as top-shelf. The waiter, unprompted, asked how we wanted the check split before we even ordered appetizers, which felt odd, but we moved on. Then, the appetizers. It was a parade of plates--eight appetizers staggered across nearly an hour, despite several of them being the same dish. When you're out with a large group, this piecemeal approach takes the joy out of sharing bites with friends. An hour and 15 minutes later, we finally ordered our entrees, but the evening's theme of "we're out of that" continued. Three different people were told their choices weren't available, and one of us was informed they wouldn't make a wrap because it was a lunch-only item. We should've noticed that on the menu, sure, but after everything else, we were hoping for a bit of flexibility. The veggie of the night, originally promised as broccoli, was mysteriously swapped for something else mid-meal. The food itself? Mostly decent. Some good, some just okay. By the time the check arrived, the night took another turn. Despite asking us earlier how to split the bill, the waiter made it clear that since we were a party larger than six, a 20% gratuity was automatically tacked on. We're not opposed to tipping well (many of us would have tipped generously for great service), but being told to tip a minimum of 20%, regardless of how the evening played out, left a bad taste in our mouths. It made the whole experience feel transactional. With a bill well over $1,000, this policy ensures a hefty tip, but it begs the question: if the service is average and the food inconsistent, where's the incentive for staff to go above and beyond? To cap off the night, the busboys began clearing our table while we were still sitting there, despite the waiter's assurances that we shouldn't feel rushed. The mixed signals were just another part of the disjointed experience. In the end, we left with the feeling that the entire experience was just "okay." A restaurant that was out of so many items, staggered our food, and enforced mandatory tipping didn't leave us excited to return. read more

My family of 5 walked in this evening after many hours in the car on our road trip. We have a kiddo with special needs and he's sensitive to noise and unfortunately, he wasn't a fan of the live music. But we decided to order food to go. The hostess was so incredibly kind, very helpful, and very patient. And our food, albeit slightly cold from having to take it to go, was fantastic!! Even my picky kiddos loved the chicken tenders. We enjoyed the unique flavor of the pizza which we got half pepperoni and half cheese to satisfy the kid who doesn't like pepperoni. It was good both ways. First experience at this restaurant. Ordered the special of the evening- which was scallops and linguini with green beans and a salad for $50. No bread or crackers served- salad was tiny- vinaigrette dressing was more like straight vinegar. Absolutely ZERO seasoning on *anything*. Linguini tasteless, zucchini- which arrived instead of the green beans without any mention- was undercooked if cooked at all- and tasteless. The scallops were good but seemed undercooked also. (guess I'll know soon enough...) I was grateful for the salt shaker- but they have placed coarse salt in shakers that aren't designed for it- so I couldn't get any flavor there either. I had the lunch prime rib special. It was a very unappetizing cut of meat. I get that it gets re-heated in the au jus might as well have been boiled in water - gray, tough and flavorless. There wasn't even any prime rib seasoning crust around the outside of it. Pretty disappointing, given the reviews. The only caveat to this whole review is that it was $21. So maybe the lesson here is you get what you pay for. read more

I was so excited to go back to this spot! This time was very different indeed. Service was super slow. I ordered the trash wings, buffalo style. They were plain wings with no taste at all. I asked the waitress about it because the first time I tried this spot they were the most amazing wings I had ever had! She said no these are the way that they are supposed to be. I asked if I could see a manager and asked the manager about them, and she said no these look plain. The manager was fantastic! She confirmed that they were not made correctly, took them and made them correctly and even removed them from the bill, which was not necessary but very nice. Made correctly, they were just as amazing. I ordered 12 more!! I had a burger and it was dry and burned on the outside. My daughters was the same way. So ridiculous sense we ordered medium. This is bad anywhere, but especially at a chophouse owned by a butcher shop. It was disappointing to say the least, BUT the manager was so nice I feel like that should outweigh a cook who didn't pay attention to his grill. Also, the waitress should have never brought the burgers out when they are black. I would give the wings 5 stars (more if I could). The burger would be a 2 star at best.
