Their happy hour is amazing! We had the brussel sprout caesar, the hedgehog pizza w fonduta (my fave) and the sausage pizza. The pizzas are TO DIE FOR. That thin crust, fire charred taste that's crispy and satisfying. The bubbly cocktails are delicious: Fancy Bubbles and Picasso Fizz were both spot on. We sat at the bar. The ambiance was lovely: dark wood, chandeliers, retro. The two bartenders that waited on us were great and attentive. Can't wait to go back. Definitely worth trying this place. It is almost always packed, so I usually end up grabbing a seat at the bar because I suck at planning ahead. So make reservations if you want to sit in the restaurant part. The bar side has this old world meets modern decor that makes you feel sophisticated and comfortable at the same time. The bartenders are friendly and make good drinks- I've come here several times just for cocktails. Food wise it's good. Not the best food of your life, but consistently good. Great ambiance in this Ballard restaurant. Great vegetarian options. It was tapas style with all the dishes we tried over the top. The quinoa kale salad with squash was my favorite. The broccoli was my second favorite. The octopus small plate was not only exceptional but could have fed two easily. Like usual with a tapas style restaurant, we ordered too much. My mom was visiting from the Bay Area and, being a Ballard resident, I knew I had to take her to Walrus. We arrive at 5:30 and of course are met with a three hour wait. We ended up "settling" on Stoneburner. I soon came to realize that this gem was not settling in the least! Outside of the particularly unprofessional hostess, this place was incredible on nearly every measure. The service was phenomenal, the drinks were inventive and beyond tasty, and the food was mouthwateringly delicious. My mom ordered their lamb pasta dish while I went with the Hedgehog mushroom pizza. We continued to go back and forth throughout dinner about whose was the better dish (without any conclusion I might add). Our waitress was very attentive on all counts and showed a real interest in making stellar recommendations. And a special shout out to the bartender's execution of our drinks! Although we didn't sit at the bar, it looked incredibly vibrant and had a whole scene of its own. Considering my proximity to this spot, I can't imagine not coming back regularly. read more

Don't let the hotel - lobby location fool you, this is a great restaurant. Four of us had different dishes after after a great appetizer. They were all impeccably prepared and delicious. beautiful space. really great, personable service. a little on the pricey side but the food was really delicious. we had a pizza with a non-tomato sauce, which is not something we'd normally do & it was excellent, with a lot of flavor & great texture. we also had an amazing pasta that looked sort of like hamburger helper but with perfect al dente pasta & a rich, meaty sauce. their caesar salad is different; very light with extra pepper which we loved. the one sour note was the charred broccoli which was not the usual floret broccoli but some strange, leafy bitter thing. if it had been properly described on the menu, i would not have ordered it. read more

The food here is delicious and the setting is absolutely stunning! I would highly recommend making a reservation if you want to make sure to get a seat and not wait a long time. I like taking my adventurous eater out of town guests here. I think 4 or less people is a good number because then you can easily get a variety of dishes and share and have a fair bit of each dish for each of you. The pizzas are always delicious and a safe choice. I've also found all the small plates and veggie plates I've had were great - the charred broccoli and carrots; the smoked tuna dip; the olives; the octopus - all of it very tasty! My least favorite has been the pasta, last time we got the bucatini and it was fine, but compared to everything else it was definitely my least favorite dish. Also, while it only has two $$ signs on yelp, I agree with others that it does get a bit pricey and I would compare it more to $$$ sign restaurants. read more

We drive up from the south end at least once a month to eat here. The food is amazing and service is impeccable...be sure to ask for Don! He is very attentive and knows the menu inside out. The menu changes seasonally and the chef is so creative. From the appetizers to main course to dessert I have never had a bad meal! Awesome place for lunch, though they may not be doing it much longer. Though not exactly undiscovered, this restaurant isn't overrun yet, but is definitely one of the best recent openings. The lunch on a weekday was largely deserted which is why they are considering no longer offering it. The menu is quite small but everything on it is incredible. The beer selection wasn't huge but had a decent variety though largely on the high IBU side. The kitchen sink salad lived up to its name with a plethora of veggies and was delightful and surprisingly filling. The pizza was incredible. Made in the wood fire oven, it came out nice and crispy yet chewy. The cheese was a bit fragrant but tasted excellent and gave some good bitterness to the pizza. The sausage was very nicely seasoned and gave some smokiness to the flavor profile. The staff was equally exceptional. Hurry up and give it a try before the crowds catch on. read more

Love the food. Unusual pairings of ingredients that come out delicious. The pizza with bacon & arugula, the kale salad, the pasta, the grilled cauliflower (which sounds boring but is fantastic), and charcuterie, it's all good. The bar is great to sit in, with lovely dark & elegant atmosphere, and we prefer that. Only downside, you need reservations to get in to the main dining room almost every night of the week. And there are some tables with fixed pizza sharing shelves that should be removable but aren't. They make for a difficult conversation. But that is small stuff. Well worth it and I'll be back. Don't know if they have a happy hour food menu but that would be wonderful. read more

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We were seated in a booth and it was nice and dim inside which gave it a romantic feel. It was so loud though insde. I ordered the potato pizza and my boyfriend got the bolognaise. I ate EVERY bite of mine. We also got the fried olives and we were not impressed. They brought us all 3 items at the same time though. Our server said she bring them out first and forgot.... Our server was nice but wasn't attentive enough. After our meals we got the donuts for dessert and it was nice of them to bring a birthday candle out for my hunny. Before the donuts arrived I asked for our check and was told it would be right out... 15 minutes of waiting my boyfriend put cash down because we were tired of waiting. I wanted to pay since it was his birthday but wanted to leave...so now I'm paying him back... I don't think I'd be back because of that. There's a lot Stoneburner has going for it. Its just their first week of dinner service and if they can iron out some of the wrinkles they will easily get 5th star here. The Good: Decor - brass, cast iron, frosted glass and old edison style bulbs...plus a wooden curved ceiling that makes you feel like you are in an old wine barrel. The decor is super tactful and very well done - its got a great ambiance. Food - really good. I love the variety on the menu and the addition of 'hearty' salads that allow folks to not even move on to the larger plates. The zucchini was amazing as was the grilled octopus, the italian tuna salad was fantastic as well. Service - super friendly. Wine - amazing list, with a wide variety of unexpected by the glass options. A wine geek will totally love this list. The "needs improvement": Food - a number of items came either with things not mentioned on the menu or not exactly as described. A couple items went just a tad far...kitchen could use a slightly less heavy hand (ie garlic and salt). Service - not what I would call knowledgeable of the menu- items we were told were hot were cold (and vv); some wait staff had never tried multiple items so hard for them to give a description. Drinks - very slow. We had 3 of our 6 dishes before the wine arrived and by the time the wine did arrive all three were already cold. Overall this was a great meal. I love the concept and the vast majority of the food was executed very very well. We will def be going back. read more

Came here on a whim for a drink with a friend after discovering that most places we wanted to go in Ballard wouldn't open until 5pm. The decor and layout of the restaurant is nice, and a definite plus is its connection to Hotel Ballard, which has cheap parking. The servers were also great, and they were pretty knowledgeable/helpful when it came to the drinks we ordered. I had the Gin Daisy and my friend ordered the Tequila Fix, and we both enjoyed them. Luckily it was happy hour...the drinks are pretty small, even for a cocktail, so I'm glad I didn't pay more than $7 for the amount of drink that I received, even though it tasted good. Unfortunately we didn't try any of their food, but the menu looked great. As we left, a man was using the meat slicer right by the door to slice what looked like bacon...yeah, I'll definitely be back. read more

Smashing! -- little gems salad: also wonderful! -- spaccatelli with greens of some sort: we couldn't eat this dish and had to send it back. No bueno. Fortunately, the service here is stellar and it was quickly replaced by a heaping plate beautiful, thinly shaved prosciutto... Which we gobbled up. -- another pasta dish that was yummy but I'm totally blanking on. -- dessert! The chocolate pot number is seriously TO DIE FOR. I want 100 of these, every day. -- doughnuts dusted with sugar/cinnamon and served with a strange chili chocolate sauce. Now, I love a little chili in my chocolate, don't get me wrong, but this was off the mark. We ended up spreading the chocolate pot du creme on the doughnuts and then groaning in ecstasy... After reading about the Hillbilly daiquiri in Seattle met magazine I came in with my two best men. Strange shape to the bar that made our seating ha little awkward but the service and quality where outstanding! Drinks where killer! If you think you know a daiquiri but have never had this one... Your wrong. Go and order one now! We tried the clipper cocktail, Picasso fizz, Devine rabbit punch, and they are all top tier, going tonight to test the Pisco Sour. I always enjoy the food at Stoneburners (they have a way with vegetables), but this was the first time I'd gone to their bar. While waiting for a table, my daughters and I decided to have a cocktail at the bar. We consulted with the bartender, Donnie, who recommended several choices based on what we liked. He was willing to tweak my drink to make it less alcoholic, emphasizing the sparkling wine while keeping a sophisticated blend of flavors. But the winner was the gin cocktail he created for my daughter, which he called Seattle Sky. I don't remember what was in it, but a violet (??) liqueur gave it a stunning gray color (for the dark winter sky), topped by a white froth (the clouds) and a little sun of lemon peel perched on the rim (for the sun that hides behind the clouds.)
