Today, I went to brunch with my best gal pals to celebrate Valentine's Day. I was still waiting for one of my besties, so I went inside to ask how long is the wait. A host lady greeted me, and she told me it would be about 20 minutes. I gave her my number, and she would text when our table would be ready. My bestie arrived just in time for our table. Our waiter filled our glasses with water and took out the drink order to give us time to review the menu. I did notice that there were not unlimited drinks for brunch. We got our food, and it looked and tasted delicious. After some girl talks, we ask for the bill and pay with 15 tips. Also, they have two bathrooms, one big and the other super small. There is not enough room in the small one. The ladies want to get one more round of drinks before we go. So we ordered, and after ordering our last round of drinks, we were greeted again by the host. She asked us how the service was. We told her it was good. I informed her that our tip wasn't good enough and that we should put $6 more to show that. I told her ok. She walks away. I have never been told about my tip before. I think that it was rude and unprofessional. Our service wasn't that amazing to tip more money, and my party was only three people. Also, tips aren't mandatory. She is lucky we tip. We had our last round and didn't tip for it. Overall, I was not happy at the end. So, if you want overpriced drinks and a rude host telling you how to tip on your bill, this is the place for you. I will not be coming back here. I don't recommend coming here. read more

Waiter should also come over after food is placed on table to see if anyone needs anything or if everything is OK. Whenever we needed something I had to hail the waiter like a cab . We had brunch at Stone Park Cafe to celebrate my nephew's wedding. The food was outstanding. It was beautifully presented and delicious. However, the highlight was the exceptional servive. Angelina from Dublin was incredibly thoughtful and polite but was rounded out by the whole fabulous service taff. I came here for a Mother's Day brunch today and was quite pleased. The food was delicious and the service was friendly. I had the spinach and mushroom quiche, that was cooked to perfection, with a side salad. My wife had the short rib hash which was quite divine to say the least! My mother in law had the steak and eggs, which wasn't cooked how she wanted to be honest (a lil too pink for medium well). My wife's grandmother and cousin both had omelettes that they really enjoyed; as did her aunt who had the poached egged with hollandaise sauce. I think everyone enjoyed their food a lot and planned on giving this place 5 stars. I liked the atmosphere and ambiance, it was casual but still nicer than going to a chain restaurant or typical diner. Oh yea, the coffee was strong and the drinks were tasty. Yet there were a few flaws.. Although our waiter was very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable, he disappeared at the end of our meal, and we had to literally chase another waiter down to get our check (this took about 20 mins). The table cloth was stained (from what looked to be coffee). The burgers were burnt, straight up hockey pucks. I thought it may've just been our table but all of the burgers that passed our table looked the same. This is not the spot for burgers, you've been warned! Lastly, they're not that kid friendly, as they didn't have apple juice or any type of milk for the 5 and 6 year olds that were apart of our party. No kids menu, hence we had to pay $20 each for both kids (I get that's the standard price for their brunch menu, but a kids option would be nice). We also had a baby with us, which the restaurant was prepared for because they provided a highchair, however there was no changing station in either bathroom. Very solid brunch place in the heart of the Park Slope / 5th Ave corridor. We went on the day of the marathon, and even then the wait wasn't too bad. They'll let you put your name down and then call when it's available -- not pulling some of the ridiculousness *other places* do by making you wait in line like an animal...but I digress. This restaurant never disappoints! The staff is always nice and friendly - super attentive. The wine list was all encompassing and the cocktail list was incredibly tasty. My group and I were big fans of their blood orange salad. I wasnt too impressed with the octopus or scallion & marrow appetizers! The entrees was though were a different story - duck and lamp chops were beautifully cooked and so tender as well as flavorful. However the ribs were a bit blah and boring so try to avoid the dish. As for desserts, the pumpkin cheesecake was a bit to healthy but our server replaced it with a chocolate dessert. Every time I come here, I say the same thing- why don't we come here more often?! The food is SO GOOD!!! I have been coming to this neighborhood joint for years now for dinner. Never had a dish I did not like. The menu changes often, so I love trying new items. The brunch is always spot on delicious. I love love love the shrimp and grits. They must mix the gravy with something, it's so addictive. I can take straight shots of the grits and gravy alone. The French fries are done to perfection. The potatoes comes out perfectly crispy without being burnt. I have tried so many dishes here, and I have to say, each one is so well executed. The place always looks in top shape and the atmosphere is great whether its lunch, dinner or brunch. Its actually the only place I don't mind eating lunch at the bar! We've been here one for brunch and it was good, but we tried doing takeout recently and were a bit underwhelmed by the food and overwhelmed by the respective prices. In the picture you'll see a "caprese salad" which we picked up and transported a half a block without much disturbance. This is what you get for $17 there I guess.....maybe you can chalk it up to it being better served at the restaurant, but If that's the case don't put it on your takeout menu. I got the fish tacos which were fine, but should probably stick to their staple dishes/main courses next time as it was nothing special. read more

I came here for a birthday dinner on a Thursday night with a group of 3 people. Two of us ordered the prix fixe market dinner special ($43 for appetizer, entree, and dessert). I ordered the seared scallops with bok choy and shrimp over squid ink risotto entree. I also tried the endive salad appetizer and hanger steak entree from the birthday boy. I also ordered the pear creme brulee for dessert. I really enjoyed the scallops out of all the dishes. The scallops and the risotto were perfectly cooked. The pear creme brulee was light and not too sweet. The portions were a bit smaller than I expected but the ingredients were high in quality. The service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. So I've passed this spot countless times on foot and and on the interwebs of Yelp and finally decided to try it. So me thinking let's go at 11- 11:30am we'll beat the cool brunch crowd. However, I forgot about the family crowds that like to come out b/c mom and dad still want to be out in the world regardless of the kiddos. So there was a 20 min wait...not to bad b/c we got our text that our table was ready after 5 mins. From the outside it looks a little small, but once inside you see it extends back and has seats a few steps down. It was clean and cozy. The only thing that sucks is if you're sitting by the bar and people come in they are kind of hovering over your back. For food, we both got the short rib hash and eggs. ...Sooo Good. I do wish there was more short rib in the hash...LOL! We most definitely will be coming back here...maybe at 11am to beat the crowd. read more

First Part of my family member's birthday celebration - Going to Pinot's Palette in Park Slope to participate in an open session of painting on canvases. We enjoyed creating our "masterpieces". Second part of the birthday celebration - having a great dinner at Stone Park Cafe! Things that I truly enjoyed while dining at Stone Park Cafe: 1.) The ambiance was fantastic! The cafe is warm and cozy, there is beautiful lighting and their seating arrangement is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I really appreciated the fact that we were seated comfortably in an area with the heat on because it was so cold outside. 2.) Great customer service! Our waitress was friendly and pleasant and made sure that we knew all of the menu specials. The waitress suggested a fabulous white wine and the staff were very attentive. 3.) The food was delicious! The bread was with butter was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I had Lobster Bisque as an appetizer and it was creamy and tasty. My Linguine with Scallops was prepared well. The Scallops were succulent! Another person that I was with raved about their Steak w/ Mashed Potatoes and Sautéed Spinach. We were given two dark chocolate complimentary desserts with the bill. Schlepped to BK to have dinner with a friend and this place was completely worth it. The food is phenomenally executed with the perfect level of done. I thought the flavors paired nicely with the food without being overwhelming and taking over the flavor. Our service was top notch and the bartender seemed to know all of her patrons - lovely to watch. I had the pork chop and my friend the half a chicken both were excellent. It is hard getting a table here for weekend brunch. What, call off work sick one day just to come here for weekday lunch instead? That's crazy! A crazy good idea, because that's what I did. Everything at Stone Park Cafe is terrific. We started with the Octopus ceviche with avocado. First off, the presentation of it was adorable and it was beyond delicious. A very light dish to kick off your meal. I'm a sucker for squid ink tagliatelle, so that's what I ordered here. It was a little too creamy, taking away from the flavor of the pasta and the seafood. But the second pasta we ordered--the fresh Linguini--man, that one was top notch. Fresh clams, buttery & flavorful sauce--this one took the cake. Speaking of cake, figs were in season which meant they were offering a lovely fig cake for dessert. This was amazing! It was warm and incredibly moist, with a tasty scoop of ice cream on top. Our party of 4 came in one Sunday afternoon a little before 11, right after we had just run a 5k race in Prospect Park. The wait for a table was about 20 minutes, or we had the option of sitting by the bar, which was no wait. We opted for the latter because again, we had just run a 5k and we (and when I say we, I mean I) were hangry. Now I normally don't order omelettes because I feel like I can make pretty good omelettes at home, and they're not usually worth the price tag. And that is probably the main reason I go out to eat - to try foods that I couldn't make (well) at home. However, there was nothing else on the menu that really appealed to me, so the omelette is what I ended up getting. You can choose 4 ingredients, so I went with bacon, tomatoes, spinach, and pepper jack - can't forget the cheese. This came with a side of home fries and toast. This could be the best omelette I have ever eaten - way better than anything I could ever make at home. The eggs are perfect - not just perfectly cooked, but just perfect. They look so pretty! Plus the home fries, which most other places use as a filler, were pretty good here. So I looked at it more as a complement to the omelette, as opposed to something to make you full because the omelette might not be enough. I only wish Stone Park Cafe was closer to where I lived. Then I could have their omelettes whenever I wanted. TIP - ask for the Salamander hot sauce. This might be my new fave. read more

One of the better restaurants I've been to in a really long time. I treated my friend here for a birthday dinner and we both had such an amazing time. Our server Tim was amazing and made the best recommendations! I ordered from the prix fixe market menu for $38...which included: 1) Appetizer - The Gnocchi with Oxtail was absolutely breathtaking. The gnocchi was made fresh and cooked so well. It was chewy like marshmallows and the savory taste from the oxtail was simply amazing. 2) Entree - 4 Scallop grilled perfectly with string beans. My favorite part of this dish was the sweet potato layered with onions and potatoes. 3) Chocolate Pecan pie - I wasn't in love with this but it was very rich in flavor. Friend ordered: 1) Grilled octopus - (poached fingerlings, Spanish chorizo, preserved lemon) - grilled beautifully and it had a soft yet chewy texture. 2) Squid Ink Tagliatelle - (grilled calamari, bacon, tomatoes, lobster demiglace) - Love the flavoring. Perfectly cooked omelettes with the very best ingredients and friendly service make this place my hidden GEM! Had brunch at Stone Park Cafe on Sunday morning. It involves planning if you want to visit without a long wait, but the food is solid and it is definitely one of the best locations to dine in the area. Quality: Stone Park Cafe is the classic brunch spot in Park Slope. Nothing we ate blew me away, but it is quality breakfast food across the board in a beautiful setting. The first item I tried was the Short Rib Hash. A mix of short rib, potatoes, and onion, which we got with an over easy egg. The over easy egg was key because the hash was a little dry and needed the yolk to drip into it. Next was the Chef Omelet, filled with roasted garlic, spinach, sausage, cheddar, and potatoes. The roasted garlic was weird, but it was a pretty solid omelet. Finally were the Buttermilk Pancakes. The key is the berry compote, and I think they need to offer a slightly larger portion of it. Quantity: Everything was standard in size, but I thought the practice of bringing one slice of toast was odd. Value: $17 for the Short Rib Hash. $16 for the Chef Omelet. $16 for the Buttermilk Pancakes. Ambiance: Stone Park Cafe is located in Park Slope across the street from Washington Park. On Sundays there is a farmers market in the area, so heavy foot traffic fills the surrounding area, which is already busy because of the playground and fields. They occupy the corner building with a pretty large indoor space. However, it is the outdoor patio they set up, which now extends to the street in front of the building, where folks want to brunch. It is a good sized area, but still no where near large enough to keep up with demand. They have umbrellas over most tables, but it can still be sunny and hot, so pick your day to visit carefully. Crowd: They don't take reservations for brunch, so it is highly recommended that you arrive before they open. After 10am the line explodes and waits can vary from 45 minutes to 2 hours. Service: They are always packed during weekend brunch, so I was initially surprised that it seemed like one server was handling the entire outdoor area. He ended up apologizing, unnecessarily, for the delay as it turned out two staff members had called out that morning in addition to them dealing with a break-in. I've been trying to have brunch here for what feels like months. But since Stone Park is so popular, there's always a wait. And unfortunately, when I wake up hungover, I need to eat IMMEDIATELY. If food is not made available for the face-shoving, I am apt to take my (h)anger out by spitting on small children and/or kicking defenseless little puppies. Eventually, I got fed up with not eating Stone Park's food, and decided to shirk my duties for a while and stop in for a weekday lunch. (Shirking is one of my favorite things to do.) Torn between the Braised Short Rib Sandwich (bourbon BBQ sauce, cabbage slaw) and the Chicken Paillard Sandwich (cheddar, bacon, avocado, chipotle mayo), I appealed to our waiter for advice. He immediately, decisively insisted on the shortrib. If you know me at all, you know I was leaning toward the Bourbon BBQ sauce anyway. It turned out to be a good decision; the short rib was fatty and flavorful, and the slaw on top provided a bit of texture and a contrasting coolness to the juicy meat. Perhaps it could've used a better bun, but I inhaled it happily. The accompanying salad with the lemony vinaigrette was also surprisingly good, and so I felt a bit better about choosing it over the fries. Despite being so pleased with my sandwich, we both agreed that her cavatelli was even better. It's rich sauce was so silky, and the only flaw was my own: I couldn't eat every bite. Stone Park lives up to its reputation; excellent food and excellent service in an atmosphere I'd gladly return to on a date, as a group, or with someone's parents. Because parents often pay. read more
