This used to be a place that I frequented for their good food. Last night was another matter entirely. The experience was very unsatisfactory, especially since my elderly mother and I were out with friends, and the whole thing was embarrassing. My mom ordered the Cod dinner. She requested to have green beans instead of fries. The server Allyson H said that would be fine and never mentioned any additional charges. As it is, they charge the same 3 dollars for fried and green beans. The fish was overcooked and rubbery, and the coating had no taste. The green beans were almost raw. We mentioned it to the server, who said she could bring another side or she could credit us for the beans on the bill, which is what we decided to go with. My bacon and sprout pizza was ok, but not like the last time I ordered it. Very skimpy toppings, especially the brussel sprouts. When the bill came, we noticed no credit for the beans. In fact, the charge for the fish dinner was $21.50 when it was clearly listed as $19.00. We mentioned it to the server, who made up some kind of crap that made no sense to anyone at our table. It was something about substituting some fish that was more expensive. It was ridiculous. So she comes back with a new receipt, it has the fish listed as $19, and then they took off $1.50 for the uncooked green beans (where they got this figure from, I don't know, as green beans as a side are listed as $3. Shouldn't the credit have then been for $3?!). The final insult to injury was when she told me that I needed to pay cash to avoid the additional 3% fee for using a card. I told her I was using a debit card. She tells me it makes no difference, it would still be a 3% charge. This is AGAINST THE LAW! Merchants are not allowed to charge extra fees for paying with a debit card; it comes straight out of your bank. I have thus reported them to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Never once did a manager appear to explain or apologize. They clearly don't care and are getting away with something that is illegal. There is no excuse for ripping people off and serving substandard food. Needless to say, we will never be back! read more

For me, the best part about Stone Mad Pub are all the unique touches to the restaurant. The stone garden outdoors, the colored glass, the brick parking lot, the restroom mural... it's all there. Oh and don't forget all the ways to drink Guinness - Black & Tan, Black Velvet, you name it. I'm not a huge Irish food fan, so I don't feel qualified to give it two thumbs up or not. Seemed good to me. Staff were certainly attentive to ensure we were doing a-o-k. Some time I'd like to return to play bocce and/or hang outside on the stone patio in front of their outdoor fireplace. read more

Wow. We talked about going to Stone Mad for their Irish Breakfast for years and finally made it last weekend. It was amazing. The puddings and bangers were smooth. Toast, beans and grilled tomato were delicious. They cook the eggs the way you order. I paired my breakfast with a mimosa. It was definitely hardy so be sure to go hungry for this one! Go couple times a year, one of our favorites, last night 12/27/25 was awful. Sat in oak room in front of side door that was opened and closed the whole night, had to wear my coat. Also no fire?? big part of making reservation in the oak room. Now the food, they changed the muscles recipe completely? gone is the creamy delicious broth and now just warm water and a dash of garlic? Brisket sandwich with everything and fries came out stone cold. I told the "manager" and our server nothing was done, the disappointing thing neither even apologized let alone offered to do anything about. Really sad evening, times change! read more

We went to Stone mad a few months ago. We started with the chicken paprikas dip and it was so good. The flavors were amazing and it came with a pretzel to dip with, hello! Genius. I got the Sheppard pie, which I normally wouldn't order from a restaurant, but this just looked so good. It was as beautiful as it was delicious.. husband got the brisket sandwich that came with basically breakfast hash browns which was a nice comfort, touch. And the sauces that came with it really cut the sandwich flavors well. We found stone mad because it's across from a popular pizza place. The front is a bar, but when you walk through to the back it's a cute, cozy restaurant space with some obvious regulars and newcomers like us. If you are on the west side, you have stop by! The outside was simply beautiful. I have never seen a restaurant that literally used stone for Everything! I only ordered takeout, but I wish I had time to enjoy the stone outdoor seating. The turkey club sandwich was huge! I was able to share it with my sister. I was also able to substitute the coleslaw for the spuds. They were absolutely delicious and filling. The restaurant did not skip on the toppings, which is what I loved. I definitely will come back to visit this place. Hopefully I will be able to get a seat outside. read more

The place is very cool, the tiling in the basement and the stained glass windows and the nice warm fireplace. But the service was awful. We had a server named Bobby and she got our order wrong multiple times. We drove over an hour to get there for the brisket and they were out. They should post on their website when they are out of the main dish people go there for. We settled for burgers and the burgers were so raw we couldn't eat them. At that point we just wanted to get out of there so we took our food home and fired up the grill and re-cooked everything. We had also gone there for my dad's birthday, and after the 10 different mistakes they made on our orders and our drinks we thought they were at least going to take a little bit of money off of the bill but that didn't happen. Very disappointed. We will probably go back because I believe in giving places a second chance, but we will make sure that we have a different waiter and we will be calling ahead about the brisket read more

This is a great bar that serves food and has a bocce ball court. Its home-style cuisine fits the vibe. It definitely has an old school ambiance and it's worth checking out for the stonework, woodwork, tiles and windows. All in all, it's a pretty cool place! read more

Atmosphere: Stone Mad Pub is a wonderful place to take a date or to go with a group of friends. When you first walk in,, you are invited to an open floor/stand up bar which was being used for a large party of about 25 people. The next room is one of the main seating areas, very dark but also had a fireplace to help light the room. The atmosphere was much more rustic than I expected, but I enjoyed it! The back room is much brighter with large windows to illuminate the room with natural light. This is also the room where they have a bocce court which is really fun! (The court is a little too fast for the balls used but makes it for a fun/competitive experience.) Food: I went with a group and we started off with the Chicken Paprikash Dip as a starter. Fantastic! Packed with flavor and similar to buffalo chicken dip. I ordered the Irish Burger since the Stone Mad Burger was so expensive to add all of the additional. It had a huge patty and fresh ingredients but I was shocked at how tasteless the beef was. It was still good, but almost tasted like there was absolutely no seasoning or marinade put in it. The Stone Mad Fries needed a little more salt but that was an easy fix. My date ordered the four cheese pizza and had the same feedback. Good, but seemed like it was missing something. Overall: I had a blast. The place sparked great conversation and the beer list was really good. Not to mention the Stone Patio and Bocce court that would make this place a must try during the spring/summer. I will definitely be back again! read more

Highly recommend this restaurant & pub near Gordon Square! Right when you walk in, there's such a cool vibe that feels like you're not in Ohio anymore. The building is huge which is great when it's a busy night - we were seated immediately on a Friday night for dinner! The pub is a great place to visit at anytime, whether it is a night out, or a casual Saturday/Sunday afternoon, you are welcomed to an friendly environment with an engaging staff. Sitting in the "dining room" .... seven tables, we took one, and a couple was already at another. There was NO ONE else eating. It is a dead Saturday afternoon here. Even the bar had 3 people in it watching the Ohio State game. Dead. When we just ordered drinks, our server completely bitched us out about sitting in the dining room and NOT ordering food!!! I fell in love with the concept of this pub from thousands of miles away, so I guess you can say we got pretty serious rather quickly. I was tasked with the glorious planning of a best friend and future husband's wedding shower antics for a nice sized group of 20 peeps who wanted to have some drinks and be merry - who can blame 'em? Being that I lived in Albuquerque at the time and had only a month or so before coming back to Cleveland for the winter break, I did what any strong elder millennial would do, and hit the Google hard. Tireless evenings were spent searching for the perfect location that screamed intimate yet exciting, fun but important, classy but still, not that serious. At long last Yelpers (by golly we're so lucky to use Yelp the way we do now) I stumbled across an adorable looking pub that just so happened to also have bocce ball, one of my friends and I's favorite pastime. Fate was looking out and/or Googs had my back - something like that. Everyone was super friendly and the staff was on point with our reservation, making sure the tables were set up properly, well decorated, that we had the entire bocce ball court to ourselves... it was honestly so perfect for our group and I couldn't have been any happier! In addition, the food and cocktails were delish and not a single belly went unhappy. As an updated portion to this review, I also recently revisited the pub since I've moved back home to CLE and you guys - the Happy Hour deals are on POINT. The fantastic bocce ball court still exists. The exterior ambiance is gorgeous with the wood and bricks everywhere, creating a garden-like vibe while you dine. I love this place!!! this will be my last review. again i have been a customer since 2008. one of the draws was the spectacular wedge salad which disappeared from the menu years ago. however the 12 ounce burger which was unique to stone mad and brisket were still a huge draw. now stone mad has dumped the unique 12 ounce burger for a standard unremarkable 8 ounce burger how boringand i was there two weeks ago and ordered the brisket and it was average and tough. . my spouse ordered the salmon blt it came with no bacon!!! and the sauce was not the same. stone mad has always been a great place to enjoy a good beer but the food has taken a deep dive. so we will get good beer elsewhere at an establishment where the food has not been compromised. what a slap in the face to the creators of this beautiful pub and eatery. truly breaks my heart my hats off to pete leneghan and eileen sammon who spent 4 years prior to opening stone mad converting the 10@ year old tavern to an amazing bar and restaurant. from what i understand eileen is no longer the owner and if pete were still here he wouldn't let this happen. read more
