Yelp Review #650. Ive been to Cleveland a bunch of times however this weekend was my first visit to the Clevelander. My wife and I were attending a Sunday afternoon Cleveland Cavs game and stopped here for a quick pint before the game. We arrived shortly after opening and were able to get a seat at the bar. Bartender quickly greeted us and was friendly. They have a fair amount of draft options. I had the Great Lakes Midwest IPA, and my wife had a Great Lakes Conway Irish Red. Bar got fairly busy before we left. A woman next to us ordered a burger which looked fantastic (no frozen premade patty), so I might have to get food during my next visit. This is a great pregame spot before a Cavs or Guardians game, or even if you are in the general vicinity. read more

Stopped for dinner and drinks before the hockey game. Right down the street from Rocket Arena. The lace had a warm neighborhood bar feel. Fair number of tables & booths. We sat at the bar and were greeted quickly. Took are drink order and brought menus. I had a beer on tap & my wife had a peach cider. She really liked it. We ordered food easily. She had boneless chicken wings, honey bourbon. Nice taste and a fairly big order. I got the Cleveland burger. It was cooked just right and packed flavor. We've been here a few times, but not when it want bust at all It was kind of nice to have most of the place to ourselves. The drinks come out cold and the bartenders are fast. We haven't tried that food here yet, but it doesn't look too bad. Will definitely try it next time we're in town. read more

Came in for food and drinks on a slow Sunday night. Both bartenders were horrible. Messed up drink orders, messed up our food order... Overheard them talking about how tired and hungover they were... Son and I decided to eat here since it was close to the ballpark. Place was pretty packed 3 hours before game time. The staff looked overwhelmed! We ordered the pepper jack cubes appetizer, the Bernie Bernie burger, and the buttermilk chicken sandwich. The burger and chicken sandwich were solid. The pepper jack cubes appetizer was HUGE. It honestly was big enough for four people to get their fill and they were outstanding. I'd like to have our tater tots cooked a little longer so they were more crispy, but my son thought they were fine. Our server was good, but he was trying to wait on too many tables and at times took too long to refill our drinks. Our order took quite some time to arrive (about 15-20 minutes), again I think because they were very busy. Was disappointed that they were out of their stout on tap and also a lager wasn't available. The male bartender upstairs made up drink prices. I had 3 beverages and every one was more than the last. At my last drink I gave the bartender $10 and he just said thanks and never returned. I I can't say I won't return here but I'll definitely be on the lookout for that crook of a bartender. read more

They have a great outdoor seating arrangement, you'll just have to look past the debris all over the place on the ground . Went here before the game and ordered a hamburger and some tots. Hamburger had no seasoning on patty however, was tasty with grilled onions, mushrooms and cheese. Tater tots were also not seasoned. Our tea came with a floating inch long and slimy object. Waitress brought another tea. Probably one of the best outdoor seating places downtown. Food is ok and we had a friendly waitress. We arrived to hang out before the game on a Saturday. We were able to grab bar seats and had great service. I do remember from years ago that they had a food menu, but now it's a walk-up counter in the back with a limited fried food menu. We did not get food this time. Great bar with loads of screens so you can watch the games in the comfort of your bar stool. read more

This is a standard bar and grill type of place, its not horrible, its not the best. Its simply next to the stadium where you would grab a burger and beer (or whatever your choice is). This is not the place where you would go out of your way to go to, but you would go simply because its there. read more

We visited the Clevelander on the recommendation of someone in our group just before the Guardians played on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived just before noon and easily found a table, but it was filling up fast. Choose to eat inside as it was less crowded. Our server was very quick to respond upon our arrival, taking our drink orders. They came out just as quick. Shortly thereafter he returned for our dinner order. I chose the build a burger with all the veggies, Swiss cheeses and a side salad. We also had an appetizer of fried pickles. Another in our party ordered an appetizer of cheese poppers plus their dinners. The pickles came out and there was enough for about 8 people. A very large basket. The staff were slow on appetizer plates but eventually we got them. Very tasty. The cheese poppers didn't make it out then. Our dinner orders were next. We reminded the waiter about the poppers and he tried to rectify the issue and did not charge us for them. My sandwich was very good. Nice presentation on the plate with the side salad. When speaking with the others, there dinners were very good also. The Clevelander is a good place to eat before a game with a very good, friendly staff. After our visit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame we decided to grab some lunch. Our Ohio hosts suggested The Clevelander. It turned out to be an excellent suggestion. As soon as we walked in I knew that I loved that bar. It just had a really cool vibe. It wasn't very crowded. A couple of regulars at the bar and one table with four people in addition to our party of four. We found a tall four top and sat down. Our servers were the fabulous duo of Rachael and Kenzie. They both were prompt, attentive, cute and friendly. Becky has never been a big fan of wraps, but in an effort to eat healthier and lose weight (it has worked, she's down 30 pounds!) she chose the Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap $10.50. Grilled chicken, romaine, provolone, tomato with ranch dressing. She loved this wrap. The chicken was perfectly grilled. It was juicy and flavorful. She loved the house ranch. She was very impressed with the quality. She was a happy camper for sure. I built my own burger. I topped the angus patty with provolone, bacon, sautéed onions and pickle slices. I asked for medium rare, leaning towards rare. It was cooked exactly to my liking. The bacon was thick cut and delicious. The onions were sautéed so well , they were nearly caramelized. The provolone was melted over the burger, not just slapped on the bun after the fact. The burger was $7 plus 50 cents for toppings and $1.50 for meat toppings. Mine ended up being a $10 burger. It was worth every penny! Add three White Claws and three pints of Yuengling and we were out the door for under $50 before tip. One last nod to Rachael and Kenzie's excellent service. Next time in Cleveland, the Clevelander is definitely in our plans! read more

Went prior to a Monsters game for lunch. The ambiance is what you'd expect for a sports bar some tvs with sports on. We ordered a Muni lot which was quite good and a chicken sandwich we felt the chips were better than the fries. The chips were fried and pretty good. The staff was as attentive as she could be due to a schedule error but she did quite well for having the entire house and bar to herself. We would go again. read more

This place is a nice sports bar. It is located near the Q and Progressive Field. It was slow, but I was served a heap of disappointment. They were out of fries. So, I opted to get some tots with my Cajun burger. The food came out quick and service was good. The burger was super and the tots were 'ok'. They were playing old school hip hop while I was there and they have some huge crystal clear TVs at the bar and in some of the booths. They also have a large patio area that looks like it would awesome for pregame festivities. All in all, this restaurant/bar is solid. I was on my way to a Cleveland Monsters game and stopped in here for a bite. I ordered the black and bleu burger and was very glad I did. The meat was seasoned perfectly, and the burger was cooked exactly how I requested. Half a pound of beef on that thing. Oh my, was it tasty and filling. The fries were good also, but I had little room left to eat them all. The price was very reasonable too. Service and drinks were outstanding. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful experience. Having frequented The Clevelander years ago, this was my first time going to the spot to actually eat. I went there amidst COVID-19 and needless to say, walked away not very impressed. The bar itself is cool, offering a no frills downtown sports bar vibe. The draft selection wasn't amazing and unfortunately, they didn't offer any of the specials that they had listed on their own website! I opted for the appetizer sampler with wings, chicken tenders, and onion rings. They gave you three of each. I can certainly see that for wings and chicken tenders, but for the onion rings? Really? C'mon mannnn! Everything was standard bar fare and tasted fine, but nothing to write home about whatsoever. By no means am I the COVID police, but CLE has been doing an AMAZING job of managing things in terms of urban big cities and I want my hometown's trend to continue. Unfortunately, the bartenders continually had their maks down while talking to customers and patrons sitting at the bar were literally piled up on one and other. Overall, it's a fine place to grab a beer before/after a game, but not worth making plans for or frequenting during COVID. read more

Tried to have some drinks and dinner during MNF. We sat for 20 minutes and were never acknowledged. Got up and left.

So we went here on a Monday night during COVID, and the bar couldn't have had more than 20 people in it. We were told we could not have a server, and had to order everything at the bar. Decent drink selection, but the beers were not incredibly cold coming off the keg lines. Although I am from Cleveland, I was visiting home from Milwaukee so I am not 100 percent sure of all COVID protocols in the city. The bartenders seemed to think that masks were better used on their necks than around their mouths. Once you gave them a look they would put the masks on or if they went to a person to get a drink, but this is a very very bad look. Service was not much better. Food wise I got the Mayor of Tremont which was a solid sandwich and the reason for giving the Clevelander a 2 star rating. The tots were average bar food with little to no seasoning. My brother got the app sampler which was also average bar food. In a city that I think does a great job coming up with innovate bar menu items and sauces/seasonings, the Clevelander is sorely lacking. Also given the seemingly lack of protocol for keeping their servers masked makes this a place I am not interested in returning. read more

Nothing super special about this place. but the food is fine and the place was clean. It's extremely handy to the Cavs' Rocket Mortgage Field house and walking distance from Progressive Field. My cheeseburger was pretty good. I added an egg and an onion ring. It was pretty big and the bun was nice, fresh and toasted if I recall correctly. The burger had a bit of a smoky flavor and was cooked medium like I ordered it. I really enjoyed my sweet potato waffle fries which were fresh, hot and good. My son also had a burger. His fries were good, but served just about on the cold side of warm. There were some Guardians and Cavs photos on the wall and a framed LeBron Jersey...not sure if genuine, I forgot to ask. The server was polite and prompt. She forgot the tomato on my burger, but otherwise was on point. I toyed with a 3 star, but feel mostly OK giving 4 stars today. read more

This is one divey-type of bar that is worth visiting at least once whenever there isn't an Indians or Cavaliers game going on. The food wasn't so bad (big hamburger with an onion ring within it), and the drafts were okay (double IPA). Plenty of seating outside, as well as a really good amount inside. The bar is very loud, even on non-game days. My bartender, the very fine Jessica, wasn't all that attentive to me and my bar buddy during this visit. Decent, yet can we get another beer whenever my glass is empty? By the time that she got around to asking (since she couldn't hear me shouting her to come down to take my order) my thirst for another had diminished, as did my buzz. No matter. The bar is within short walking distance of both Quicken Loans Arena & Progressive Field, so you can't go wrong with pre-game drinks at this place. Seems that parking is limited here. I have lived in eight states. I have traveled to nearly forty, and have eaten in every one. The Clevelander sits on the precipice of greatness! The worst nachos I've ever had. Soggy and chewy and greasy, how is that possible? But believe it or not, that was the best part of the meal. Grilled cheese, every 12 year old kid knows how to make one, yet the cook here doesn't. He/she/it must've been only 11. One side of the sandwich greasy, the other side completely dry. The cheese wasn't melted. An absolute disgrace. Have some pride in your job! I'm not sure it cost $2.00 or $10.00. Whatever the price, it was to much. All I can say, if your going to serve bad food, make sure it's the worst you can make! This may be the only place in America that I man can walk into a place and get a 'Tramp Stamp' and a 'Dutch Oven' and still walk away happy. The Clevelander is a perfect semi-hole in the wall bar and grill located only a block or so from the Indians stadium. There are plenty of tv's to check out sports, a large bar and plenty of tables. The waitresses are very friendly and perfect for handing a bunch of testosterone driven 35+ year old men who act like 12 year olds. The waitress could handle her own with us smart asses, she even asked us if we were all there for the Cher concert, despite us all in baseball gear. (apparently Cher was also playing at another venue close by). We all started off with a Yuengling then ordered our sandwiches. I ordered the Dutch Oven. This was a perfectly cooked burger with applewood bacon, carmelized onion and smoked gouda. I have never had gouda cheese on a burger but it was great!!! It also came with homemade chips and homemade dip. Perfect bar food. We stayed for quite awhile, long enough to drink 4 or 5 beers before the game. The waitress let me sample 2 other beers so I ended up ordering a 'Clown Shoe's Tramp Stamp'. This is a double IPA and I'm not usually an IPA guy but the waitress told me it wasn't very hoppy. They know their beer here. So stop on in for a Dutch Oven and Tramp Stamp, you won't leave feeling violated. read more

I would say that The Clevelander is one of my top bars to go to when I am out and about in downtown Cleveland. Try their Big O burger with their delicious tots! Stopped in to the Clevelander for the first time and probably will be the last. I walked into the bar with my daughter to have a couple drinks and a bite to eat after a Cleveland Indians team shop visit. . The bar was pretty empty maybe 8 patrons we sat down at a pub table directly in front of the bar for quite a while before we were even noticed. It seemed like the barmaid was more interested in talking to the people at the bar who didn't even have drinks in front of them. When the barmaid finally came over to our table we ordered a couple drinks and then food. I ordered the Muni burger and my daughter ordered a homemade black bean burger both with fries. I have to say the food wasn't bad. Decent sports bar for watching games. The food may not be the best. I ordered a 24 oz Yuengling and The Bernie Bernie burger medium rare. The burger was pretty dry and flavorless, and it was difficult to finish but I was hungry so I ate all of it. It comes with kettle chips and chip dip which were not the most flavorful but had a pleasant consistency. They have several TVs along the bar (although one TV was on the fritz), so it was a reasonable place to watch a sports game.
