I've been a fan for over 10 years, way back when Jennifer Stone decided to start roasting her own coffees. I followed them through different names, locations and owners until my heart broke and Stone Cup Coffee House was no more. Until the Phoenix rose from the ashes as, well itself. A local businessman who was also a fan reopened as it originally was, dedicated to great coffee and a relaxed hip environment to sip, visit and wright a Yelp review. Second time coming... ordered regular coffee - dark roast. They only had light roast and said dark was brewing. I waited 15 minutes at the bar and then asked if it was finally done brewing. The young RUDE BOY behind the counter the poured me a cup of light roast which I could have just gotten when I ordered. When I questioned him- he was loud and tried to shame me and announced to the whole coffeeshop that he just poured me a fresh cup. This coffee shop is young and hip, but what a rude way of treating people because he was lazy. In the 15 minutes he gossiped away with Hannah. read more

I'm not a coffee shop kinda gal, but when I do go, I try to frequent local, independent coffee shops. The Stone Cup has some good coffee and other drinks, but it's overpriced. The food is run-of-the-mill, but also very overpriced. I don't actually like the atmosphere - it's a little cramped, too loud, and always crowded. I constantly have trouble finding a seat, and normally have to sit outside. read more

I moved from Chattanooga to Boston nearly three years ago. Prior to that I was a fairly frequent Stone Cuper. My last visit home I was super excited to revisit Stone Cup and I was not disappointed. If anything it is even better than I remembered. Actually, it flat out is better for one reason- the customer service is loads nicer. I mean Stone Cup never had crazy bad customer service, but the people they have now are so warm and welcoming that there really is an inviting atmosphere. I literally was at Stone Cup every day of my vacation whether with friends or taking a break from the whirl of visiting. The food was as super yummy as I recalled and the Earl Grey tea steamer I got was so frothy, warm, and yummy. read more

Three and a half stars might be better. I like the atmosphere of the place and the free wifi is a good thing. It wasn't terribly crowded when I was there so I didn't have a problem finding a place to plug in, but I could imagine that being a problem. The coffee tasted fine but the cup was rather small (maybe 6 oz?) and even with one free refill it seemed overpriced. Seems like it would be better either to charge $1 per cup since they're small, or the $2 (I think) that they currently charge plus 25 or 50 cents per refill. I will go back because it's only a 20 minute walk, but as long as I'm driving, there is better coffee at better prices in Chattanooga. read more

Really, this place needs to be reviewed as two different businesses- the fantastic outdoor patio and the actual coffee/food part. The outdoor part is easily 5 stars- the patio overlooks Coolidge Park (ignore the parking lot between you and the park) and has a great view of the walking bridge. When it's decently warm and you can sit outside, they also open a pair of garage doors and the whole shop is open-air. Fantastic. They do carry beer- they rotate two or three taps, and they usually have a local beer, a Highland beer, and something else that's generally different and/or interesting (last time I checked, it was Sir Perry cider). Cans of PBR are available for cheap. They also carry a decent selection of bottled/canned beers. The coffee is actually pretty great IF it is fresh (and it isn't always fresh), but here's a protip: Don't drink the standard drip coffee past ~7PM (everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, starts buying PBR about this time. You would do well to imitate.). It most likely won't be hot, and won't be fresh. Their espresso is pretty good- try the Cubano, hot. Liquid cinnamon. As far as the food goes: the paninis are pointless. Oh boy, a baguette, deli cheese, and random deli meat. Flavorless. Don't waste your money. I have not, however, had any of their salads yet. read more

Great coffee shop on the North side of Chattanooga. Great outdoor area overlooking Coolidge Park and the Tennessee River. For my money beats the heck out of the local Starbuck's. Good, friendly atmosphere. read more

Misses the mark of a proper coffee shop. You don't serve cappuccino in a to go cup unless it's to go. Give me a mug. And the cappuccino was a let down. They have a proper machine, but need to understand how to use it. No organics or gluten free.....get with the movement folks. We won't be back....and we are daily coffee shop patrons in atlanta. Come up here once a month....there are other choices. Clean food please. read more

My favorite thing about Stone Cup is the outdoor seating. It has a view of the river you can't find at any other coffee shop in town!

Better than every coffee shop in a 5-10 block radius. The cinnamon and honey flavored lattes are sooooo good. We come to chatt 10-12 a year and this spot is a frequent visit! read more

Cool view, slightly warm environment, helpful friendly doe eyed staff. If you drink coffee you will find they have a fine cup o' joe. If you drink...... Stuff with a bit of coffee in it, the baristas move with some grace and elegance meaning they are familiar in that space. But I ain't drinking that stuff. I'm from Nashville, but every time I find myself on the North Shore I wind up here for a bit. Having my coffee in a stoneware mug on times I enjoy staying put.... Nice touch! read more

Good luck trying to stay till nine. By 810 the server was turning the chairs on the tables with such a slam that you could not miss her meaning. She scattered three groups of customers in five minutes. Coffee is great and everyone was nice till the bell rang eight, then they rolled up the welcome mat and put it firmly away. Too bad. I stopped in last week thinking it would be a better experience than the previous visit. I was wrong. I miss the old location. I do not like the new location. It is not comfortable or inviting. It feels like I'm in a subway station. I came in for lunch with my friend and dog. We wanted to sit outside but there were no umbrellas on the tables nor does the new building provide any shade. We decided to get our food to go because we've always enjoyed the beverages and the food. I went inside to order our food and was the only person waiting. For some unknown reason, it took 20 minutes for them to make 2 sandwiches. They were out of iced tea. The smoothie tasted like fake sugar and ice, disgusting. I will not be back. I miss the location and the feel of the old Stone Cup. read more

This beauty doubles as an art gallery. They also sell gently used books, mostly vintage and always hip or poetic. Does not have the culturally sterile atmosphere of a chain joint. Has tables outdoors on a balcony, overlooking the huge Tennessee river from just a short distance away. I enjoyed a nice big cup of rooibos tea indoors with a frosted brownie, while admiring a wall covered with original artwork done by a moodily quirky local artist. read more

Please don't be deceived by the single star. I would have put 0 stars if it were an option. Imagine combining a hospital cafeteria, school room, and a subway with a truck stop cafe sitting area. Except there are no plugs. The place is often dead, depressing, charm? Nope. It's the worst coffee shop in Chattanooga. Which is really sad because it was once hopping. Now it lacks anything that says "we care" besides the staff, who are really nice. The bathrooms are gross, cheap and falling apart, no paper to dry my hands of course, the downstairs one has a gap around the door and you can literally see into it, the fact there's no ambient sound/music means guys, when you go take a whiz you are the most heard sound in the place...take comfort in the fact there is only 1 other customer present. When you descend the stairs, everyone watches you because the sound of you descending echoes through the building in sad resonance. My advice, being a business consultant myself, put a little effort into making your place appealing, having very clear character, making things like plugs available, giving people a reason to stick around and return, maybe visit the amazing Mean Mug only 2 miles away that has lines all day long and customers filling every seat. Somebody do something! Oh, replace the depressing fluorescent lights with really attractive lighting, have some hip music playing, change the terrible baby blue walls to something more warm and legit. Seriously guys. Since this place changed hands from the founder it's been a steady and momentum building decline to a failed business which is really hard to do with a coffee shop. Last thing: the photos are old. Just a good place to grab a cup of coffee or tea. Good sandwiches and snacks foods. the staff may seem a little overwhelmed at times but they're good folks. It does get busy in there from time to time and you just have to be patient with it. But great little local joint with a good name! read more

(The stone cup is a wonderful cafe with many beautiful individuals that work there; the food and coffees are great.) I have been a near daily customer for years now, but after tonight, my heart has changed. I watched one of the male employees kick a homeless man out of the cafe for being "banned" (for reasons I deem unfair and ignorant), and called the police. All the fellow did was walk in out of the 30 degree cold, most obviously just to get warm, and the employee yelled at him to get out until he left. After I told the employee that calling the police was unnecessary and that he was probably just trying to get warm, he said, "well he will have a warm place to stay tonight" while calling. There is no good reason to treat another human being this way. Frankly, I am embarrassed. This is my first yelp review, and I would love to leave 5 stars, but this experience has left me with a terrible taste in my mouth. read more

Friendly staff, clean restaurant, great coffee. My visit could have been better if they weren't playing 80s music from a cheesy radio station along with the annoying commercials. Music for a premier area coffee shop should be more seriously considered. This along with the empty food cooler at the counter gave me the impression that management isn't keeping an eye on the details. read more

I dont live in Chattanooga (yet) but have been visiting regularly. I was a barista back in the late 80s at the only coffeehouse in L.A.. We were trained well and being a discerning foodie i am quite picky about coffee. I also really appreciate a friendly atmosphere, which many of the newer coffee places simply dont offer. Polite at best, with the coffee tasting like cardboard- which seems to be the latest craze, just doesnt do it for me. Stone Cup is the only place ive liked so far, although there are a couple more to try. Most everyone that works there is friendly, the coffee is great, the prices are typical, the baked goods are limited but yummy (haven't had actual food there yet but everything is made fresh in back), and if thats not enough they have outdoor seating to boot. Go uostairs and find a large comfortable space with couches and a view of the city. The actual atmosphere of the interior is nothing special (Id like to help them with that!) But quite honestly, if i want a cup of coffeee and i plan to stay, all i care about is either having a quiet slace in which to read, study, or chat with a friend. 10 Stars! After a less than pleasing experience at Totto (sushi bar a few doors down) we were rather annoyed (See my Totto review). we decided to get coffee, this time not letting Yelp lead us. We passed Stone Cup on the way to the car. We had a very enjoyable stop at Stone Cup. The barista - and I can't remember his name, a small guy with glasses - was very engaging. Making conversation, being welcoming, and making a suggestion for my coffee. He was spot-on! That was the best cup of joe I've had in a long time. It wasn't because I was thirsty, it was because that was good stuff. I tried calling several times on the way back to Nashville to ask what was In that phenomenal cup of goodness -- maybe I can try to recreate it locally. Alas, their phone number goes straight to voicemail. Owner: I left a voicemail with my number. please call me so I can compliment the barista and find out what was in my yummy cup of sheer awesomeness. I'd love to know. read more
