I purchased a piano from Stilwell, based solely on the online description and video, and honestly, just PRAYED it wasn't a scam! It's not! They allowed me to make an offer; worked with me on my price range; and the delivery was pretty good too (they contract deliveries with other companies.) I don't dream of owning "things," typically, but it has been my long-time dream to own a grand piano, and Stilwell made that happen for us! read more

One word - exquisite. I've been playing my whole life and I'm an actively gigging musician. I grew up with a baby grand in my home and planned to purchase my own instrument when I grew up. That day finally came a few years ago at Stilwell Pianos. Acoustic pianos are incredibly complex analog instruments that are sensitive to changes in temperature, moisture, and numerous other factors. Because of this, it's impossible to pick a piano just by brand and model if you're specific about the action (touch) and intonation (sound). For experienced players, you have to play it to know if it's the one. I went to several stores in town. Most were staffed with pushy sales guys trying to land a Steinway sale using every trick in the book to create urgency and assume the sale. This bullshit doesn't fly with me and ruins the journey. I first visited Stilwell at their old location. Michael introduced himself, inquired what I was looking for, and let me explore on my own. No tactics, no pressure selling, etc. It took probably 4 trips over 6ish months before he had the right inventory for what I wanted. The buying process was straightforward from there and they used Max Piano Moving (best guys in town) for transport. Whether you're a seasoned professional or looking for your child's first piano, can't recommend these guys enough. read more

As a classical pianist and an amateur piano technician I have to say that Stilwell pianos is one of the most honest Piano Stores I've ever worked with. Like any used piano, there are always things that are great about the piano and some things that need to be fixed or worked on. Amongst their fantastic selection of serious pianos I have found that they have been very straightforward with the quality of the instruments and what has been done to rebuild/restore on them and at the same time they are honest with you when there are things that need to be fixed or replaced on an instrument before you buy. It's not a common thing to see in this industry and I was very happy to see that kind of honesty. A close friend of mine was looking to purchase a grand piano with Stillwell and I helped her pick one iut, and in doing so I had a hard time picking one specific instrument out of the many great options they had available. Push forward to about six months and I decided to upgrade to a newer Steinway model B and I can honestly say with my knowledge of these instruments that I received a fantastic deal for an instrument that will satisfy my needs for many many years to come. Take your time in looking at any piano you buy and ask any questions you may have and they will answer them and make sure you make a well informed decision on your purchase. read more

Stilwell Pianos - Piano Stores Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

If you are in the market for a piano, even if you DON'T live in the Mesa, AZ area, check these guys out. I live in Houston, TX, but I had the opportunity to connect with Michael Stilwell, the owner of Stilwell Pianos. Stilwell Pianos will deliver and their estimated delivery cost is easily found and clearly labeled on their website. I am in the market for a baby grand/grand piano. I currently have a Yamaha upright that has been in the family for 35+ years. I went to a local piano store in Houston and was ready to plop down $15,000 for a brand new baby grand Ritmueller. After talking to a friend who is a pianist, she advised me to look at used pianos on craiglist or other local piano stores. I actually found listings for pianos on craigslist that took me to Stilwell. I have to say, I adore this business and their business ethics. Stilwell Pianos also owns a piano technician school so they know pianos inside and out. Think of it as buying a rare, vintage car from a master mechanic. They really are technicians trying to find the right piano for you instead of a piano salesman trying to make commission off of you. The website is very helpful. They have videos on many of their pianos, so definitely check this out. They also have a YouTube channel so I urge you to look at those videos as well. After meticulously combing through their website and YouTube videos, I decided to contact Michael via email. He was very responsive and we were able to set up a time to meet via Zoom. (Side note on the videos: Some of their videos do not have the name of pieces performed. I feel that you should always give credit where credit is due. It would be nice to have information on the pieces performed by their pianists.) I had narrowed down what I needed/wanted in a piano so Michael was able to focus on a handful of pianos within my price range that met my needs. It is true that Stilwell Pianos does NOT pressure you into buying. Our meeting was about 90 minutes long and it was much more informative than him trying to sell me something big and expensive. I really appreciate his grace and candidness. He played on each piano so that we could hear the sound quality. He went through the history of the piano maker as well as the piano itself. He really listened to what we needed. For one of the pianos that I was considering, he actually told me that I will probably find a better deal off craigslist. I'm not comfortable buying something this expensive off craigslist especially because I don't know pianos well enough. I did not visit the store in person so I cannot comment on the physical characteristics of the store. From the videos, I wish I lived in the area so I could go visit in person. The store looks like so much fun. Who doesn't want to skateboard around expensive pianos? Final verdict: I HIGHLY recommend giving these guys a chance. Contact Michael or the store manager. Talk to these guys. Set up a virtual walk-through of the store. Did I buy a piano from Stilwell Pianos? I am still trying to decide which piano is right for me. There were so many great choices! For a purchase this large, I will have to sleep on it. If I do purchase from Stilwell, I will definitely update this review. Since I have not purchased a piano from them, I cannot give you my feedback on their delivery and set-up processes. read more

This is a great family owned business. They go over the top to try to please my piano students. I love family owned businesses!

These guys are wonderful. Stilwell pianos is the place to go. Fair prices, not pushy at all, very helpful in answering questions, and sooo courtious. We need up going to other stores and came back in the end and we are so happy we did. read more

I haven't purchased a piano from Stilwell (yet!), but we were so impressed when we went in and they educated us on our options and their stock. It was low pressure, but we learned a lot, and we know enough now about what we're saving for. We're so impressed that we'll likely be back sometime next year to make a purchase (finally yay!). read more

I highly recommend Stilwell Pianos. If you are looking for a piano whether it's new or used, you have got to go to Stilwell Pianos!! Nathan was awesome and helped me so much with his expertise knowledge and experience to find the right piano. He was exceptional and went above and beyond in helping me understand all I asked of him about the two different pianos I was interested in. This company is top notch and they are up front, sincere and give you the info you need. I didn't feel any sales pressure at all which is rare to experience these day. I reached out to several other piano places in my research of pianos, and hands down, Stilwell Pianos was the best and the people who work there truly have your best interest at hand and they sincerely care! Thank you Stilwell Pianos and Nathan for helping me find the best piano for me and my family!I read more

I bought a piano at Stilwell Pianos in December. My wife and I couldn't be happier with our purchase. We wanted a nice piano, but couldn't pay full price for a brand new one. A high quality, well tended, used piano is half the price, but just about as good. I also appreciated the feeling of the showroom. I never felt like I was being sold anything. (which I hate) My questions were honestly and respectfully answered. I would recommend Stilwell to anyone who wants a piano, but hasn't won the lottery. read more

It is time for me to give credit where credit is due, and provide a review of Stilwell Pianos. I am a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) based in Phoenix AZ, and I am qualified by training and experience to make this review of Stilwell Pianos -- I am independent professional and not employed by Stilwell Pianos or any other piano dealership or manufacturer, and I make this review voluntarily in the interest of service to the piano industry and service to piano owners in general. Michael Stilwell comes from a family heritage of piano technicians, and has a dedicated sense of integrity and service toward pianos. Although he is a technician himself, he chooses retail piano sales and service as his field of labor, and over the past several years, his dedication and energies have built his piano company into a significant presence in the world of retail piano sales. He vigorously seeks out good products to offer his customers, and he attends to the technical needs of these instruments better than most of his competitors. Michael is well-known and liked in the technical community also, because of his knowledge about pianos and his attention to their technical needs. He offers full service to his clients including refinishing, moving, as well as regular services like tuning, and advanced technical work such as regulation and voicing. Be sure to include this company in your choices for finding the piano that is right for you, and for locating piano maintenance services !! read more

Outstanding service and knowledge by Michael. Direct and went through all types and styles that fit our need. Very fair pricing for beautiful used equipment. Purchased stunning unit that was delivered same day by in-house delivery and they set it up and cleaned prior to leaving. They have a room for the kids to play to distract them so we could focus on the different styles and types of pianos. Must have 40 to choose from. We went low end but some are stunning. Ended up with preowned baby grand. Love it. They will play music for you to see difference in sound and have a professional named Josh that can really play! Interesting that everyone that comes in just begins to play. Very cool place. Thank you again! Julie & Steve read more

We did not purchase our piano from Stilwell but we did hire them to tune our upright. We were very impressed with their services -- the technician was prompt, efficient, and gave his input on small repairs we could eventually consider for our piano. Also reasonably priced for tuning/upkeep. I am sure we will be calling them again for regular maintenance. read more

Michael REALLY knows pianos. He's knowledgeable beyond belief and uses that knowledge to get you in touch with the perfect piano for you. His prices are fair to cheap and the selection is impressive. I would recommend Stilwell Pianos without hesitation. read more

After (quite literally) years of searching for a piano, we finally found "the one" at Stilwell Pianos. We purchased our "well loved" Baldwin under somewhat of an unusual circumstance - she was still in refurbishment and was, therefore, not ready to come home. However, the refurbishment went quickly, we were frequently updated with pictures and info, our questions were answered quite honestly, and we always felt welcome to drop in anytime. Everyone at Stilwell was knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to work with. We never felt pressured to purchase; they care about their customers and their work. We hired their recommended mover, who was friendly, prompt, and very careful with our wood floors and our piano. We also hired their recommended tuner, who was also friendly, professional, and honest - we will be calling him back for regular maintenance. To be honest, we wouldn't recommend anyone but Stilwell Piano! read more

Family owned businesses are the best and this one is no different. It's a large store with great inventory with absolutely no pressure to buy like you will find in other piano stores. Michael and his staff are very knowledgeable. I would not buy from anyone else...especially Craig's List as you never know what you are going to get. These guys know pianos inside and out and have a wide variety of prices. Trust me....they're the best. read more

I started looking for a piano in the classifieds, online, and in retail piano stores, when I was lucky enough to stumble upon Stillwell Pianos. After talking to Michael on the phone, and then visiting his "showroom," I knew the only place I would buy from was Stillwell Pianos. Michael educated me on the "ins" and "outs" of Piano buying, what I should look for, as well as, piano retailers to visit (if I wasn't going to buy from him) and retailers to avoid. If you are seriously going to purchase a piano, go visit Michael Stillwell, at Stillwell Pianos, before you buy anywhere else!!!! read more
