That day finally came a few years ago at Stilwell Pianos. Acoustic pianos are incredibly complex analog instruments that are sensitive to changes in temperature, moisture, and numerous other factors. Because of this, it's impossible to pick a piano just by brand and model if you're specific about the action (touch) and intonation (sound). For experienced players, you have to play it to know if it's the one. I went to several stores in town. Most were staffed with pushy sales guys trying to land a Steinway sale using every trick in the book to create urgency and assume the sale. This bullshit doesn't fly with me and ruins the journey. I first visited Stilwell at their old location. Michael introduced himself, inquired what I was looking for, and let me explore on my own. No tactics, no pressure selling, etc. It took probably 4 trips over 6ish months before he had the right inventory for what I wanted. The buying process was straightforward from there and they used Max Piano Moving (best guys in town) for transport. The place was very spacious and filled with a ton beautiful pianos that are available for sale. We weren't in the market so we didn't check prices. They have a back studio room with a grand piano that is worth over $200k that performers get to use. The recital room is on the smaller size but that is perfect to keep the performances more intimate and less stress for the performers. When the time came to move i contacted Phil Costa who informed me that he didnt have room in his showroom to take back my piano on consignment and that pianos were not selling well and those that sold were sold for low prices. In other words, no 100% buyback and good luck to me selling it. Even though the purchase info did say consignment, that turned out not to be possible and especially not "100% buyback" Buyer beware, DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE!!!
