Terrible encounter with the self-checkout woman; she gave everyone the impression that we were robbing the store. We don't require this experience at Stew Leonard's, which has long been my favorite store to shop at. Managers from stews need to be more picky while selecting team members. Additionally, if shoppers are removing items from the grocery store without paying, hire more cashiers and eliminate self checkout. It's against the constitution what this person at the check out did, defamation against the law read more

I've been coming here my entire life. I love this place. This place is my childhood. Let's start with the ice cream counter, GET THE COOKIE DOUGH. DO IT. Their ice cream is also amazing and my friend says it's like cream cheese! Everything is delicious here. The bakery, amazing. The bagels, CUPCAKE COOKIES, pies and cakes are all super super yummy. I'm not a huge fan of the birthday cupcakes...but to each its own. My family loves picking up a pre-made meatloaf and heating it up for an easy dinner. It's very good! The hot bar is super good and I love their macaroni salad. I love walking through the store and seeing all of the animatronics. It freaks some of my friends out but I love it. Seriously worth the trip. read more

In how many ways can I express my love and amazement for this store? It's incredible and an amazing shopping experience every time. Everything they have is fresh and delicious, their produce selection is out of this world! Cheeses, fresh milk, fresh meat, fresh juices, seafood, anything you could need in your kitchen for food! They also have a good burger stand and ice cream shop. I tried the fish and chips and they were great! Can't wait to go back. read more

This place used to be great. My family and I used to come every other week to buy groceries and on holidays, flowers and our family dinners. It is sad to see how things have changed. Things like milk no longer being no 'in-house'. More recently the decline quality regarding service and quality. Purchasing flowers before the holiday was a regular thing, however in the recent months, it seems as if they've been outsourced. The old staff were so friendly and accommodating - always happy to provide custom designs that would exceed expectations. This past mother's day, there was zero variety to choose from. How could flowers be out of stock by 11am on mothers day... This was the final straw. Unfortunately won't be shopping here anymore. read more

Stew Leonard's produce dept has deteriorated significantly! On 8/21/21 we purchased Clementine Oranges one of Stew's specials for the week of 8/24. When I opened the package the majority of the oranges were rotten. This is not the first time. Purchased Stew's Broccoli d'Rabe and refrigerated them as soon as I got home. When I was ready to cook the broccoli 2 days later they were completely rotten I had to throw them out. Of course the excuse will be COVID-19. Same story with Stew's bread/rolls. Despite all efforts to keep the bread fresh within 2 days the bread becomes moldy. After years of shopping at Stew's it doesn't seem worth the trouble & waste of money! Very disappointing! read more

I find that the aisles are narrow for what Stew Leonard's is. It's a maze, yes, but if it's one way traffic kind of thing than the aisle should be a little wider. Having a small child and grocery shopping can be a challenge because she wants to stop and look at everything. Stew's is the perfect location for that because of the animatronic animals and dairy that roam throughout the store. The lemonade is really good. My husband grew up in Norwalk so I am fairly new to coming here (7 years or so) and we usually only go to the Norwalk location. His family has since moved to New Jersey and they still try to drive up every few months just for Stew Leonard's. read more

Very unique grocery store, perhaps the only one in North America. They produce/make a lot of goods in store from fresh milk to tortilla. They sale everything and anything that you need with fun kids animal puppetry hanging in the ceiling. A person dressed in cow walking around in the store and greeting customers and children or you can take photos with if you want. There are animal farm displays/living in (old style farm) across the parking lot store, kids love them. It's like mini zoo, super cool. Chickens, calf, ducks, goats and more. What a clever ideas. Flower displays perennials and annuals in the front side during the spring/summer maybe Christmas trees during the winter. What a unique clever grocery store. We really enjoyed this store as a tourist sight seeing. read more

I've been coming here since moving and the selection of flower arrangements were always very beautiful for the Mrs. However over the past couple months the flowers have just been mediocre as she says, I almost had to sleep on the couch, not only that but prices have gone up also, idk if it's inflation, vendors or what. My wife does like the produce and fruits section though, She always rants and raves about the bok choy she gets and says this is the only place around town that has it. We also also get the handmade chicken burgers every Sunday for the family. Those are sooo fire. read more

The customer is NOT always right. I've been shopping at Stews for over 30 years. Got ripped off buying his Fried Shrimp. They were just Breaded Tails @ $13 per pound. Spoke with the manager and showed him the "shrimp". He agreed it was disgusting and said Stew doesn't make the shrimp; he said they buy bags of frozen shrimp and fry them. He offered a refund and a $20 gift card, which I refused as it was an inadequate compensation for blatant FRAUD, akin to when Stew Leonard didn't have one of his Cash Registers connected to the System, avoiding paying taxes. SHAME ON YOU STEW LEONARD! read more

This place is amazing. It is great for people who like to shop all the isles of a traditional grocery store because the layout doesn't allow you to miss anything! They have so many premade foods that are both fresh, frozen, prepackaged, and self serve. Tip: get a cart even if u think you can manage with a basket. You don't realize all the things you need until you're about half way through the store with a dead arm. Something I leaned while I was there last time is if you spend $100+ you get a free icecream !!! It's super easy to spend $100 during a grocery trip. They have the BEST icecream in the world. They also have their icecream packaged for sale to bring home. It's perfect because it isn't too sweet. It's just right ! read more

Lied about having a specific cut of meat. Wasted one hour of my time. Their butcher is terrible and I'll never go back.

Stew Leonard's is pretty wild. It bills itself as "The World's Biggest Dairy Store" and it is a pretty grand place to go do some shopping. There's a big caveat here, and it is probably the one thing that keeps me from giving it five stars, plus prevents me from being a weekly visitor: It does not have a great grocery/dry goods section. It is very cool, and has an amazing array of baked goods, dairy, cheeses, meat and produce. It has a hot and prepared food selection that likely puts even Wegmans to shame. But, it's 3/4 of a grocery store, and what they do have is in smaller quantities and more expensive. However, if you are looking for a lot of quality fresh food, Stew's has you covered. All of the dairy is delicious. The singing animatronics are adorable. The free samples are great. The produce is awesome! It is definitely a place I enjoy shopping at from time to time, just not with regularity. It is 100% worth a visit at least once. read more

While you're walking around distracted by all these weird little singing fuits. Take a second to look around. Look past all the distractions. MOLD, DIRT, GRIME! You don't need to take my word for it. Just pick up your milk and look what's left in its place. GRIME! Pick up your goldfish and pop tarts. DIRT! Pick up your fruit. MOLD! HIDING A MOLDY SHELF WITH FRESH FRUIT DOESNT EXCUSE ANYTHING. Also make sure you use a legit register. read more

I bought 356$ of groceries on Memorial Day and they packed my 35$ BURGERS at the BOTTOM of the bag with a sack of potatoes on top. When I called to speak with a manager their solution was to drive 45 minutes back to the store to get my money back. Through 2 memorial day parades. For a "family business" they give no care to their customers. The manager Dianne was no help and didn't care at all about the issue at hand. I'm beyond upset. read more

I love Stew Leonard's! This is the 2nd time visiting this location and I've gotta say I hated the layout last time BUT this time around I loved it. I felt like I was in a market vs a big box maze (Yonkers and Danbury). This layout is a bit different and if you're used to the other 3 locations, a bit different. My (almost 2 year old) daughter knows the other 2 location pretty well bc we go to them often and she loves all the animated characters. Here in Norwalk they have a few different characters that got her attention and she had a blast while mommy and daddy shopped. My favorite items are their Chewy Pecan Cookies, Cronuts, Apple Cider, Spinach Dip, and Fresh Mozzarella. Next time I'm in the area aka got to the aquarium I will be sure to make a pit stop here! ;) read more

Stew Leonard's is a fanastic supermarket. They have an amazing bakery with freshly baked goods and sometimes they give out free samples. The decor and the singing and dancing food-shape machines are also great for kids and make shopping at Stew Leonard's an entertaining experience. They have a great selection of meat, although it is also of higher quality than normal so expect to pay a little steeper prices. Near the cashiers, there are also hot foods for sale and they smell delicious every time you pass by them. However, if it's your first time at Stew Leonard's, you need to try their lobster rolls which often sell out. The lobster salad is very fresh and with a bit of lemon juice, it works perfectly. Overall, I highly recommend Stew Leonard's to anyone who wants to have a unique shopping experience and also purchase fresh and high quality groceries. read more

Stew Leonard's - St. Patricks day special - Grocery Near Me - Norwalk, Connecticut

As always, I love Stew's. But you have to know what you're doing in order to survive here. Dodge the tourists taking photos of animatronic creatures (and milk cartons with shifty eyes) and weave around shopping carts while looking straight ahead (NOT wide eyed & gaping at all of the charming gimmicks). Unless you're here at a particularly off-peak shopping time, just take a basket or two to load up. The shopping carts create an unforgivable bottleneck that you do NOT want to be part of. Eat free samples. However strong my will is, I just can't bypass the free sample tables....baked goods, cheeses, prepared items, fresh seasonal produce - really whatever they feel like putting out on any given day. Don't come here if you're looking for anything specific (like baking items or specific brands) - they won't have 'em. Stick to Stop & Shop for that. However frustrating this store is to navigate, it's still one of my favorites - full of childhood nostalgia. I'm a Norwalk kid - I grew up going to Stew Leonards and I'm not about to stop anytime soon. read more

I absolutely LOVE Stew Leonard's! You can't do you main grocery shopping here (and if you can't afford it-definitely not every month). There are wonderful products perfect for entertaining! I bought their mini waffle crisps and made a strawberry cream cheese mousse and topped the waffles with it...SO good! They went very quickly! Their dips are outstanding, too. When I can afford it, I like to splurge here for all of my entertain snacks and treats. read more

During covid I minimized my shopping trips and bought what I needed from ShopRite or Costco. I used to shop twice a week at Stews for their weekly sales and the 4 day sales. When I went back to Stews when covid calmed down I couldn't justify the higher meat and produce prices so I pretty much stick to shoprite and Costco with an occasional trip to Stews for the garden shop or if I need some milk. read more

I call Stew Leonard's "The Happiest Place in CT" and it is my most favorite place to shop when I visit Norwalk. There is always something to look at, taste, interesting things to buy...the samples they give sell me! I always buy everything I try. The breads are delicious. The ice cream is the best. They have a huge prepared food area. The chicken wings are so good! Prices are higher than other places but who cares. It's just a fun place to be. read more

It's not the same Stew Leonard's that I grew up going to as a kid, but it still holds great memories. Before I was too young to know any better, my parents would take me here on the premise that we were going to a zoo, or a museum, or a carnival. Pick your excuse and bundle up the kids for cheap entertainment. But in truth, I never felt shorted; The petting zoo seemed cheerful, nonthreatening, and clean enough in my young eyes, and the fact that you got to play with the in-store displays (We're talking about simple button-pressing here) were delightful. Nowadays, if I have no choice but to suffer through this labyrinth of a store, I pray to God that those very same displays are not singing those same awful tunes, because I swear that I will have the Chiquita Banana song stuck in my head for the remainder of the day. Yes, I know it's about three lines long. Yes, it's maddening. Thanks to the perpetual game of bumper carts going on in the snaking aisles, I'll be able to listen to it at least 10 time through before I can get by. In short, it's a great adventure for the kids where you can also pick up some quality fresh produce. However, if you're on a mission and just want to get your damn food, avoid at all costs. read more

Greatest recent-ish discovery (thanks boyfriend). The experience of food shopping here is even better than food shopping at Whole Foods, as I don't have to feel bad for not wanting to eat Kale and organic everything. Stew's is pricey, but they make it feel worth it because of the deals of the week. Over the summer we got lobster for $3.99 a pound and it was so much fun to make later! It's a fun store too, with the animal petting area, singing cows, singing toys, etc. It's a maze of sorts, in that you have to walk around the entire store to hit the finish line, but that's okay since there are sample along the way (if you've never had a cro-nut you really haven't lived). Their ice cream and frozen yogurt are amazing too :) read more

I am definitely not a fan of this store's maze layout. It is confusing to navigate and is just a ploy for customers to empty their wallets further on this store's overpriced groceries. This place has also become noticeably run down over time. The floors have gotten wet and sticky, the animatronics look jaded and worn down from decades of operation, and the checkout system is a mess. It is very easy to incorrectly scan items by mistake, and getting an employee to help you fix any mistakes that you make scanning items can be a real hassle, especially with how loud and busy this store gets. I will give this store a star for its great soft serve ice cream, but everything else for me is a hard pass. read more

Love love this market! It's not your typical supermarket and it may not carry all your cooking essentials, but it's worth a stop on your errand run. Their products are always fresh and you'll definitely come across something new with every visit. My new crave is there chocolate drizzled rice cakes which is my go to when I'm in the mood for a sweet treat! Also, something eye catchy and worthy of a try is their pumpkin ginger frozen yogurt bites - absolutely to die for; they are simply amazing! The staff is super helpful and willingly to give you samples - make sure you go on an empty stomach ;). Oh, and your children will love you if you bring them along. There's a small farm out front, a mini milk factory inside, animated shows as you shop, and so much more that I bet they'll be begging you to come every time you say you're going to "Stew Leonards!" read more

I travel to Nowalk/Wesport every couple of months from Philadelphia to see Family. Used to love coming to Stew's. It was fun, pricey and delicious. Now it's just pricey--specifically the prepared foods--dead dry ribs, way overly breaded chicken wings and really unfriendly service staff dishing it out. Covid has been tough on most businesses but there's no excuse for totally absent quality control. I never thought Shoprite would have better prepared foods than Stew's but the unthinkable has happened. The only thing Stew's has kept up are the prices. Weak selection, poor quality, and unpleasant staff when it comes to prepared food. Only a year ago, if you took the time to talk with a Manager, they cared. They don't now. Whatever magic they had is fading fast. I will give them a star for quick check out. RP read more

This place is like the Epcot of grocery stores. Lots of commotion with the talking/swinging dolls hanging from the ceiling and the food is overpriced. I was doing my best to take it all in and actually shop for food, but compared to my pace, it felt like everyone else was rushing through like they were contestants on Supermarket Sweep. The selection here is quite amazing, I'll give them that. But I had to deduct some stars due to being followed by their security team upon first entering, which I'm still trying to figure out why when I pretty much look like every other middle class cracker in there today. That being said, I'll probably still return strictly for the campiness of it. read more

Even though there are some good things the bad things outweigh anything good. For instance the quality of certain foods have gone way down in the store particularly certain baked goods. It's literally hit or miss like it is prepared normally one day and another I am throwing it in the trash. The cafe is also hit or miss and good luck if you try and get to the bottom of it. They often don't have price tags on most of the items. The worst I think is the meat department. Most of the workers in the meat department are the opposite of helpful. They don't care and argue and are disgruntled and rude. In the morning most of the meat isn't even out yet in the coolers. They don't speak English or good luck getting there help it's a huge waste of time and a head ache dealing with them. Unlike the slogan it feels like the customer is wrong for wanting there help or wanting them to do what they are paid to do. read more

Why isn't there a Stew's everywhere?! I absolutely can never get enough of shopping here - it's truly a great food shopping experience. There are always samplings, and I'm not ashamed to say that the singing and dancing machines entertain me even as an adult! Whenever in CT, if we pass a Stew's I've gotta go in! Great selection of produce, meats and cheeses, hot prepared foods, great salad and wing bar! The only thing that mildly drives me crazy is that it seems nearly impossible to find my way out if I'm just stopping in for one item. Maybe someday I'll live in CT and can do all of my grocery shopping here! read more

Stews is good, but in the grand skeem of things, its a specialty grocery store and not real great if you have a big list of things you need to get or if you have a specific brand you prefer, they may not have it and you will go somewhere else. I first experience this Stews back in 1975, it was much much smaller and younger then - and so was I. Back then they didnt have quite the circus going on that they do now, but they had some animals and over the years they added the animatronics and the building got bigger. I remember thinking how cool Stews was when i saw the Ted Nugent signed photo "STEW - GOOD MILK - NUGE" Stews has expanded over the years, now there is one in Newington, CT and Danbury, CT and also in Yonkers, NY .. maybe Orange, CT sooner or later too .. read more

I used to love Stew Leonard's. If I was still 8 years old, I'd give it 5 stars without hesitation. As you get older, you start to see things that you didn't as a tween. The crowds have grown noticeably dense. This was always a popular store, but it's a zoo on the weekends now. Not entirely a negative thing, but the layout of the store makes it a struggle. The other thing that jumped out at me were the prices. As I kid, I could care less -- after all, I wasn't paying for anything. However, the uniqueness of the store definitely comes at a price. The quality of the food (particularly the dairy and bakery) is very good. However, I don't think that it is to such a degree that it warrants the inflated prices and endless patience required for dealing with the crowds. read more

How could one not like this place! I remember back in the day when they had the farm animals, feed the chickens, milk the cows. Well those days are over because of the expansion of the parking lots. It is still an experience. Traditional supermarkets have ailes where at Stew's was a path of grocery shopping. The food and drinks are homemade, veggies, fruitthe ice cream is top notch. I love Stew Leonard's and I'm not sure what happened... but the Norwalk location was so disappointing. Not during, of course. Customer service and atmosphere always top notch... as well as all COVID guidelines followed. But the kettle style potato chips that my family usually goes crazy for were barely edible. Not sure if they're were stale or cooked at the wrong temp but I had to toss them. (I opened them the day I bought them... there was no "date made" on the bag but I don't think there usually is anyways) Then when I baked the ready-made garlic bread (the day after I bought it), it was covered in mold when I took it out of the bag.
