Not what it used to be. I have been shopping here for 40 years and it has gone downhill for sure. With Covid, I find they are sometimes not on top of things- like the wipes for the carts is at the entrance but the carts are outside by the curb- really? Lines are a mess unless you do express with no one knowing which way things go. This place had a philosophy- "The Customer is Always Right" and that was great. Guess they forgot that one for now since I find some of the employees not willing like in the old days. I asked for some pre sliced pineapple last week and the girl said we don't have any but I could see that the women behind the partition were cutting up pineapple. Been coming here over 30 years as far back when it was Clover Farms. Has been a part of my family and friends just as long. Great farm animals outside to bring the kids to, and an ice cream and frozen yogurt Shoppe on the way in. Great variety of food and drink offerings around every corner as well. The store setup has an Ikea like floor plan with winding turns to make one long path, but also has numerous short cuts since it can be a long walk to get through the entire store. Midday they have free samples of some products and they also have a coffee shop and sushi stand inside along the way. The last two great things to mention are the animatronics along the way which are still amusing today. The Chiquita banana one is a classic. Lastly, the buffet at end is really worth checking out with a ton of options and good flavor. If you're ever in Norwalk, check it out. You'll be glad you did. read more

I have heard good things about this market- but ya know-- a market is a market- right? WRONG!! Not in this case---- what I wasn't prepared for was how easy it was to shop- how friendly the staff and no shopping list needed- you walk up and down the rows and you grab what you need- no friv buying at all.. The basil is heavenly as is the fresh mozzarella and the rest of the produce- but the meat and fish to die for, fresh, firm and prices were amazing- no hidden fat on the meat cuts.Kids can watch milk get bottled and the ice cream afterwards is enough to make the worst child behave in hopes of having mom or dad get them a scoop of creamy de-lish-is-nesssss in a cup (no spills in the car please) I wish I lived closer but believe me when I say you need to head over at least once and on my next trip to CT I will of course stop off.. read more

Stew the best dairy market of Connecticut. Who doesn't look fresh milk, fresh handmade cheese. They have a amazing staff and the best quality food. They have designed it to customer needs. Every aisle is designed thoughtfully and they have organized stuff such that we need keep searching for the other item. Like for example pasta cheese and tomato sauce are placed together. Staff is absolutely friendly. They have tastings over weekends during daytime. They organize many events for kids adults. They have amazing food. Now one of our favorite places and the first stop visiting family and friends want to see after hearing us gush about Stew's. Stew Leonard's is the best grocery store I've ever been to. I seriously feel like a kid in a candy store when I go there. I don't live in the area and discovered stew Leonard's by chance. Whenever I am in the area I stop by here for their delicious soft serve and bakery items. My favorite thing is how generous the store is with samples. If you go early in the day they have samples all over the place including the bakery and the best fresh squeezed juice samples. I am obsessed with their chocolate chunk cookies and crumb cake. Their sugar cookies and peanut butter cookies are also amazing. Their fresh squeezed juices are to die for! They always have two different samples out which I up load up on. My favorite thing about stew Leonard's is their frozen yogurt and ice cream stand. They have a bunch of delicious flavors like non fat maple, coconut, pistachio, strawberry etc. I usually end up getting the vanilla soft serve ice cream which is so thick and creamy. My only complaint is the portions are a little stingy but it is cheap. Definitely go for the adult size because the kids size is only 50 cents less and not filling. I used to work at Stews in 2014 it was kinda nice and I worked with alot of people and a few different departments. Fast Forward to tonight, My friend has horrible living conditions right now, and out of my own generosity I bought her food from the buffet area just to take her out and treat her. While I was in the self checkout. Deborah of 8yrs blond shorter older woman, Someone whom I used to work with in front end even was standing behind me watching me the entire time. (I get it if you're trying to be helpful but stop lurking on random people??) My friend asked if they had utensils and I said yes and asked if she wanted two? She said yes and so I started getting the utensils in my left hand and had my wallet ready in my right. In the midst of this Deborah immediately comes to my side saying "You didn't pay for this yet and un-click the button which I had already clicked to pay. ((Mind you for Employees and Non Employees, There Is A Camera watching every station)) I told Deborah I just weighed my food because it's from the buffet and just click to go pay it. Please leave me to in, I'm about to pay, I'm just getting utensils. Deborah replies "Yea ok." I reported this incident immediately to Rupali in Customer Service and all she could say was; " we're sorry, Feel Better." Maybe Next time Train your employees not to touch the check-out screen when People are about to pay and know what they're doing. Also don't assume theft if I already had my credit card out!? I really hate to say this but stew's is slipping. I come here at least once a week and have noticed some concerning trends around pricing going up and quality coming down. I've had to make numerous returns from things I bought in the bakery for being stale a day after I bought them, and produce being rotten shortly after purchasing. I haven't had one issue from a purchase made at Cranbury market, Trader Joe's, shop rite, or Whole Foods. I will prob always come to stews especially because I have a toddler who is delighted by all the kids' features, but I've reduced my purchases to just their milk, a pick me up at the coffee bar, and a few other things. Their return policy is still terrific but it speaks to a larger issue that I'm averaging a return of more a week. read more

This review is for Almond Chewies sold at the Westport location. Stopped by after a drive into Connecticut to escape the social distancing lockdown after 3 months. Was hungry so decided to get some snacks for the trip back home. Picked up a pack of Almond Chewies in the bakery and so glad I did. It was a tasty choice and was glad that they are still offering new and good things after all these years. With all of the new locations opening up, I was not feeling the excitement I used to get every time I would stop by the store when it was only located in Westport. These delicious treats have renewed my appreciation of the store for tasty offerings. These treats are very Chewy with strong almond flavor. Unfortunately they are sold only in Westport from what I have been told by store personnel. So grab a pack and try them out if you get the chance. Living here for the past month, I totally get why this chain gets awesome ravings. It kind of reminds me of Texas' HEB chain grocery stores. You got fresh produce, meats, pastries, hot foods and SAMPLES!!Come on the weekends to get free samples of pastries and cheeses, hehe. It's super packed on the weekends, so I try to go during off hours. I love their Mon-Thurs specials. And sometimes it includes 2/$5 ben&jerry/talenti/halo top ice creams. There's prebagged, reduced priced veggies on a silver rack in front of the cut fresh fruit counter. Majority of the time they're a bit wilted or almost moldy, but immediate refridgeration brings them back to life for 1-3 days. Bottle deposit machines are behind the burger counter. read more

Took a trip here today to get some fresh fruits and veggies, as well as fresh meats for meal prep this week. The meat selection is so big you keep turning corners and there's more and more. The isles are a little tight and people "speed" their carts past you. So beware of crowds of weekends. Their selections for everything are endless. They keep it very clean here with tons of choices. It's hard to leave there empty handed. We spent over $100 so I got a free vanilla ice cream which was delicious. My boyfriend got the strawberry ice cream with sprinkles which was really good too. It is incredible how they are gouging customers at this difficult time. I went there today for the first time in a couple of months; my prior experience was that the place was not safe in terms of cleanliness. The prices are thru the roof. Example: potatoes which are usually 99 cents per pound, were an incredible 1.79 per pound. POTATOS, 1.79????? In every category as you walk around the store, prices have skyrocketed with no justification. Item by item, I can get it cheaper at Stop and Shop or Trader Joe's. Called and spoke with a person that I found very hard to understand, but he did try to find me with my name, phone number and email address. No go. They do not fulfill SL on-line gift baskets. Call Norwalk back, get 29 year SL veteran Heidi and she is testy with me and tells me to call the 1st number again. Like that is going to happen! She has 10 other lines ringing and can't help. My fav grocery store! Really it's more like an experience for those who enjoy food. My top spots - bakery (breads, bagels), popcorn, cheese, produce, prepared foods and hot/cold food bar. Must have item - Stews Choice Salad! It is just delicious and has been my top choice for years. There are no bargains here. Very pricey. Not a lot of traditional grocery store items. More gourmet type of place. Convenient place to pick up catering for guests or a family dinner. They'll always have the seasonal items readily available. Always have unique items for you to try. I live in Stratford and will only grocery shop at Stew Leonards! I as well as my kids love the Dancing Banana, the smells as you walk thru are fantastic. The fried and BBQ chicken, the buffet mac&cheese, the broccoli & cheese poppers and the sweet potato chips. The fresh roasted coffee is fantastic and all the samples they give you throughout the store are excellent. You must go, you must try all the homemade to go foods, soups, salads and baked goods! You will never want to shop at a regular grocery store again, and I've been to Trader Joe's there is no comparison. My only complaint is the ignorant shoppers that leave their cart or kids in the middle of a congested isle and take their time making a selection without being considerate to the congestion they cause behind them. read more

I've given these idiots so many chances over the years, but several recent visits they will no longer be getting my business. First, went into get a bag of whole coffee beans, (Which I will say is quite tasty) It was 11am, they had ONE express cashier, (I believe there are 10-12 express counters?) and a line that stretched half way through the store. Took me almost a half hour to get one damn bag of coffee. (They do have self service check outs, but those never seem to work and they always have to call a manager over.) Second, I bought 10 ears of corn on the cobb, didn't bother to remove the husks there, (Like all the other idiot shoppers seem to do while blocking other customers from getting at the damn things) got home and HALF of them are covered in black mold. (!!??) And last but not least, I went to get my propane tank filled, didn't bother to wear a mask because it's in the outdoor garden section, left my tank with the attendant who was serving two older MASK-LESS gentlemen, paid the cashier, went to hand the attendant my receipt and he refused to serve me without a mask. HE HIMSELF had a mask, but it was AROUND HIS NECK, both his nose and mouth exposed!!! I pulled my t-shirt up around my nose and mouth, glared at him, he reluctantly filled my tank, and as I walked away I made a reference comparing him to a certain German dictator who made quite the bad name for himself during the early 1930's to the mid 1940's and the attendant said something along the lines of "See ya assh*le." Okay, if the other customers had been wearing masks and the attendant was wearing his properly, then yes, I WOULD be the a-hole in this situation. But the fact that he signaled me out for some reason pissed me off BIG TIME. (Perhaps he has something against small people with lots of tattoos?) Oh my sensory overload! I was not expecting animatronic cows when I walked into this place. The parking lot was packed, and all those people were most definitely inside navigating the maze that is Stew Leonard's. I went in for one item (yellowfin tuna salad), but I didn't realize that I'd have to travel through a hail bale maze to get to the seafood section. This is the kind of place that you need a map to get around, and if you don't know exactly what you want and where it's located, you're going to leave with a major headache. Stew Leonard's is the place to shop. It's so clean there I don't even worry. Wear gloves and a mask and everybody is wearing gloves and a mask so it's all good. Since the recent changes to their flow pattern Stew Leonard's has increased their prices, decreased their selection of many of the items that were standard fare and increased plastic packaging of a lot of their produce. I received a stew's flower bouquet, the roses were dead and many of the other flowers were dried out. The rose leaves were completely dry, the fern was wrinkled and old, some stems were black on statice. How do you have the nerve to sell flowers like this? 24 hours later the bouquet looks at least a week old. The white lilies had brown spots on the petals.
