Used to be my favorite store..soups are watery, meats xtra expensive, fast food just like McDonalds

Ugh where to start.. I lived in norwalk over 20 years ago. The BBC service and the offerings were so much better. I waited 30 minutes just to pay for propane inside and then had to wait for them to find someone authorized to fill them. Hey Stew stopped by the Norwalk store this morning to pick up some fruit. Very pleasantly surprised at the renovations and overall changes I found. Walked the entire maze to see the changes -nice job! The place had an updated feel but with all the same departments feeling cleaner crisper and more appealing. We always were fans of the wings for tailgating and football weekends but stopped after a less than quality experience your store was built on. I was pleasantly surprised my the renovations and quality of the wings! Bought coffee and a couple of breakfast sandwiches...very nice selections...won me back! I even bought a Stew Leonards bag! Their food is amazing! The stuff that isn't Stew's brand is usually more expensive than it probably should be! But you know with there stuff you're getting food quality food! Love the animatronics! I'm a fully grown adult and I still have to press the buttons to make them play! Staff is always nice and accommodating! You can tell they're there because they want to be! read more

Stew Leonard's is an Amazing Experience!! I've been coming here since I was a kid. The Coffee/ Hot Cocoa Bar is worth the ride alone! The Samples ohhhh the samples... The Soft Serve Icecream comes in so many tasty flavors. I personally love pistachio The have a lot of unique options, the talking cow , parrot , Minnie Mouse doubt Flips. I didn't see the singing milk cartons this time but I remember loving that as a kid. They also have a great pumpkin selection and haunted hay ride for the kids. I've been a fan of Stew's since I was a little girl. But after the last few visits, I had to post this. Within 3 days of purchase, the Tuscan bread had mold on almost every slice, the strawberries too were mold covered and rotten and the mashed avocado had turned bad/sour. It's a shame as I do like going there, but I hate throwing away food I just bought. read more

I came back here because the truth is that I refused to think that this place had really changed so much. This time I found it renovated, much cleaner and its employees this time were very attentive and friendly with a smile on their face, as one should serve customers. Note the change, I noticed it especially where you buy the Wings the Coconut shrimps there was a change for sure where the food is also the employees very attentive very helpful so if it is worth coming back again and again everything looks very fresh the food the breads and the cleanliness of the place has now returned to making the Stew & Leonard's that we all love. This was a fun discovery. I initialed found the one in Danbury and then wanted to stop in again before leaving the area and was pleasantly surprised to see they are a chain with multiple locations. This is a pretty big store with a lot going on outside and inside. Lots of fun cow, chicken, veggie and other animatronics so guaranteed to be fun for the whole family. And just a crazy amount of food sold. Fresh bagels, grind your own coffee, fresh coffee, ice cream, wine, pizza, other hot bar items, you name it. Most of it is the Stew Leonard brand. Prices for his brand are good but some things like meat prices are crazy high. One man standing near me got upset and shouted about the angus beef price and blamed the Democrats - good grief. This location was also very crowded and people didn't seem to care if they hit you with their carts which I found pretty aggressive. Definitely worth checking out if you've never been. I could see doing weekly grocery shopping if this were in my local area. So far, all the products we purchased have been great and no complaints on things like the fresh bagels, ground coffee, bread, milk and so forth. read more

I also have always enjoyed the Stew Leonard's shopping experience. However, three weeks ago I purchased a large chicken salad from the salad bar. When I got it home and tasted it, I could tell the chicken was turned. Whether it was expired chicken made into the salad, or the salad was old. I figured it was a one off and went ahead and had Thanksgiving catered for four. The stuffing was good. The mashed potatoes were rancid and inedible. The turkey we're still chewing on. It was tough, unseasoned and my dog wouldn't even eat it. The good news is I was only having my immediate family to poison. Stew Leonards can definitely do better. read more

How could anyone not love it here? It's like Disney World, super market style. It's a great place. I did a review of the Danbury one and they are both great but I like this one a teensy bit better. They are both great stores. Actually plan to spend some time here. It makes for a wonderful hour or even two. You will want to buy everything in sight. They have such unique items and they have almost everything. It is a place you can bring the kids. Get them an ice cream cone and have one yourself. See all the automated talking and a few singing animals. They usually have people giving food samples so bring your appetite! And buy buy buy! Stew's is a just an all around great time and both the Danbury and Norwalk one offer great value as well as entertainment, for the kiddies. It is just a pleasure to come here. I always wind up buying more then I thought I would. They offer a number of unique items. It's a fun time but not if your in a hurry. Strange COVID shopping experience. Blessedly the throngs of families and visitors were gone making walking thru the aisles pleasant at least. Also gone were the trains and fun little milk cartons and animated creatures popping up and singing to you - that was sad and depressing to be dark. Obviously all the food to sample was gone and in its place reconfigured aisles. They did have a good supply of pizzas available - good job offering the different crusts: cauliflower, broccoli and zucchini and gluten free options. One entire section of frozen foods were gone / I don't know why about that. I love them offering cheese ends and meat ends over at the end of the cheese aisle. IDK more stores don't do that - it's such a great idea. They did still have hot fried food behind the case so I was able to snack on my guilty pleasure of a couple fried mozzarella sticks - I love them because of the cheese used while my friend said they were too salty and tossed his. There was also plenty of to go food available despite the hot bars and dim sum bar being closed. All in all, a really really good job of serving the public during the supposed "pandemic". Best super market on the east coast. I grew up coming here once a week and never complained. Always looked forward to my ice cream cone! Stew Leonard's makes the best frozen yogurt and if you spend over $100 you get one free cone. Must try their baked goods and their vegetables and fruit are always so fresh. read more

Stop in for the ice cream! Yes groceries are great, but I'll loop in for the pistachio soft serve. You can even get a twist of pistachio and toasted coconut that's the best around! When grocery shopping it can get busy but there's a pretty good flow through the store. Just have to keep swimming in their path that funnels everyone through like salmon. Got here at 7:30 pm on Saturday. Closes at 9pm. This "redo" ???? HORRIBLE. IM SO SAD. Always loved coming here. It's ruined. Couldn't get deli cold cuts!! The deli was closed at 7:45!!! Guys standing there. 4. Machines covered. They have less than half of what they used to have. I guess it was crazy to think this would be forever. I guess it's more profitable someplace else. Always an Adventure. I remember when this store was built and we've been shopping here ever since. Pro: This place is an institution and sells in high volume so everything is fresh. The huge variety means I can find basic staples as well as unique food items. Their sales are great but not everything in the store is a deal so watch the prices. The hot buffet is good but again, you may tend to over spend. Con: I resent being made to walk through a maze so they can expose me to as many products as possible. Also returned an item and regretfully CS employee failed to read Stews 2 rules. People behind me were complaining. They admit to being challenged in hiring. Not sure the % but 20 or so is not made by them, they repackage and put their label on it. read more

I recently purchased a muffin from stews and was excited to eat it. When I returned to my home after a long day out, I began to indulge in what I thought would be a great afternoon snack. I took a colossal bite and to my amazement I saw something I never thought I would see. Amongst the fluffy baked pastry was a BUG!!! Something that looked like a gnat was sitting there, INSIDE the muffin!!! I spit out the baked goodness I had in my mouth in revolting disgust. HOW? how did a bug get into my muffin? Stew Leonard's is my favorite supermarket! My mom used to take me as a kid, and I had really fond memories of it. This is the Disneyland of grocery stores! Since we moved away, it had been over 20 years since I'd been to Connecticut. When we finally came for a visit, I knew I wanted to visit Stew Leonard's. I was so excited and best of all, it totally held up to my memories! My memory of it wasn't just inflated from being a kid. Stew Leonard's is the World's Largest Dairy Market. Outside, they feature live animals and inside is filled with lots of whimsical attractions everywhere you look like a singing, dancing Chiquita banana or little characters doing aerial trapeze acts overhead. It's a treat for kids, but adults too! Many items are made in house and usually there's samples everywhere. The products are awesome like fresh kettle corn and potato chips, freshly squeezed juice, and there's plenty of hot, ready to go items including a dim sum bar! There's an ice cream bar outside too and they often give free ice cream tokens to kids or excited adults ;). I was offered a free token when I visited for a free soft serve cone! Yum! The only down side is the prices are a little high; this isn't somewhere you'd do your full shop, but it's certainly a wonderful treat! Heads up: The layout is unusual. You follow the designated path around the store, but there are cut through, short cut paths if you look for them. read more

How have I never reviewed here before?! Growing up in Fairfield County, I'd come to Stew's every so often and it was literally the best. Currently, I live a solid 50 minutes away from it at least, but have an opportunity to go in the summer due to my summer job. Now that I have a child, it's an even more fun place to go as I see his reactions to all that the store has to offer. There is a little area outside to visit some farm animals, there is also a covered seating area to enjoy some of your snacks. Upon entering, you are blown away with hardcore bakery smells. It truly and almost physically draws you into the place. The layout of this grocery store is sort of like a one way maze with shortcuts if needed. It kind of is nice that the flow of traffic, for the most part, is all in the same direction. I will say some items are pricey while other are super great deals. I tend not to shop for items there that I can get at my local Stop & Shop, Shoprite or Big Y, I only seem to buy Stew's branded items. When in Rome.. The lobster bisque is amazing and in the hot food buffet section, if they have the Mac and Cheese that day, get it. As you wander through the store, there are musical performance type animatronic things that keep the kids entertained. Think Rainforest Cafe meets The Fresh Market. I don't want to give away more than I already have, but I don't think that I've ever gotten something there that I was disappointed with. Last, but not least. You have to get the ice cream WITH cookie dough on the way out. My fav is the cookie dough, vanilla on top with colored sprinkles in a cup. It's like $5.49 or something like that, but a really large shareable amount. I'll quote another reviewer (Bridget W.) and say "GET THE COOKIE DOUGH. DO IT." read more

It's so fun to shop here! It's so ridiculously overdone but in a good way which I think is probably what they're going for. Everything is super fresh and the prices are very fair. I came here for the $7.99 lobster rolls (which are incredible by the way) but ended up shopping for a bunch of other stuff. The variety is slightly lower in some categories but I like that you're not overwhelmed with too many choices. It's much easier to pick between two hot sauces as opposed to 50. I'll definitely be back here pretty often for more shopping because life's too short to be shopping at boring grocery stores. read more

This is a review of Stew's new Curbside Pickup meal, which ended up not being curbside at all :( I chose the meal options, date and time online. There was no obvious sign outside the store indicating how to pick up the meal when I got to Stew's at 8:30 this morning. I asked an employee at the entrance and was told to go inside to the catering counter. There were 3 customers before me and plenty of people shopping nearby. I had to wait over 20 minutes as employees packed the dinners. There were about 6 people behind me by now. If I knew I was exposing myself to this kind of inefficiency and risk all for one tray of food, I would not have ordered at all during this pandemic. read more

I don't know why I decided to return to this ridiculously over/priced store. In many cases 2-3 times more than other local options. They will say the products are higher quality - but that is just not true - weather it be their over-priced produce or something as simple as over-priced cereal. Additionally, their signage is misleading. I just got conned into paying $7.00 for a small container of cherry tomatoes because the sign made it appear that they were on sale. Congrats. You gouged me on this product, but I will never be back to get gouged further. You can save a LOT of money if you choose to shop at one of the many nearby competitors and get every bit as good quality. read more

Love it here! Lots of free samples! The food stall has amazing items and prices - the french fries are great! Bakery items are good, apple cider donut holes are yummy and a must try! A lot of fun. Endless selection, great prepared foods. Prices have gone up a little, but that's everywhere now. Huge portions.

I love visiting this store when I am in town. Freshest foods and always a sample somewhere. I am obsessed with their bagels. Their chocolate milk is also a huge hit in our house. We buy a gallon and pack it in a cooler to take it back home to Buffalo. If you spend over $100, which isn't hard to do, you get a free ice cream cone from their stand at the entrance. Some of the best ice cream I've ever had. All the employees were super helpful. Here's a tip, follow the duck front prints on the floor to find the restroom. After thanksgiving Santa greets shoppers as you come in. There's a whole area set up to take great pictures. read more

Service is hit or miss but mostly on par with your regular big box grocery store- helpful but won't go out of their way to help. Staff isn't the friendliest. Okay, so I owe Stew an update. Surprisingly a good one. My mom has shopped here 40 years and myself a long time on and off. The past few years the quality has greatly gone downhill. But the visit last week was different. The whole milk (in the large gallon jug, not smaller one) was delicious. The roaster chickens we cooked at home were, too. So maybe some quality has been improved upon since I know they have gotten complaints. I still will never try the hot bar again but am returning now for the rotisserie chickens to bring my ill family members, so hopefully these have improved as well! Keep up the improvements Stew. It is as true as they say - best grocery store in America!!!! They have literally everything you could imagine of a grocery store. The entire store itself is an experience the first time you walk through it. It's a one way walk, with puppets, miniature train models, and flying animal toys playing on the walls and ceilings. The options here are also endless. Bagels (yes, rainbow bagels too), coffee and juice bar (SO GOOD), ice cream soft serve bar, the list goes on. During the winter time, there are wreaths, trees, wood/logs, and on-sale pumpkins outside. There is also a small animal farm in the parking lot area, but the animals are gone during winter season. Food bar is extensive with salads, hot foods, and even a dim-sum hot bar (not the best, but the fact that it's there!). Plenty of produce, meat, and dairy options. I had never been to Stew Leonards before and I understand it's less bells and whistles during the pandemic. We were still very pleasantly surprised by the inventory and variety. Virtually everything we bought was delicious - so good in fact that we went back several times through our trip and bought copious chocolate filled cronuts, rainbow cookies, and Polar water to bring back on our road trip. The lobster rolls and Sartori cheese were great. The freshly made rosemary potato chips needed a heavy dose of salt. Also, the fresh olives with chilis and oranges were a bit strange... quite sweet even. I've learned they have a new app to collect points towards free coffee or ice cream.
