I love coming here, it's my favorite spot in the whole Valley. The service is great with the coffee being extraordinary with the depth of flavors in the espresso. I can sit in there all day doing work or meet up with a friend and chat over a cup of coffee, it's comfortable and the environment is always warm & welcoming. If you have an at home coffee grinder I also recommend buying their beans! They have great variety and tastes just like in store! read more

I have lived super close to Steve's Espresso for years but haven't wandered in till now. I needed a legit breakfast sandwich (Starbucks breakfast sandwiches just don't do it for me) and I heard Steve's had other good food so I stopped in on my way to work. Love the ambiance. There's a good amount of tables and space to hang out and be social or solo. I got a Coconut Mocha and the breakfast sandwich and was very happy with both. Good mocha and coconut flavor in the coffee and the sandwich filled me up. Might get it without the chipotle(?) aeoli next time if I'm not in the mood for spice. I am here to meet an associate, drink string espresso and plan for world domination and I am at the right location! Since I was here last they have expanded and opened up more seating. They have added more baked goods and added alcohol and take out coffee carafes. This place is fantastic. The baristas were friendly and energetic and suggested a great croissant for me to try. I have been coming to Steve's for years and have seen its evolution and expansion into the space it is today. It started with just a couple tables and then expanded into the old nail salon next door so, now hove two rooms to enjoy - double the fun! Steve's grows more and more popular every time I visit but it consistently has good coffee, good food, and even alcoholic beverages for later in the day (or early, who am I to say?). I've never had an issue with parking or getting a seat inside. First: the coffee is top notch. I'm a fan of their special honey vanilla latte but you can't go wrong. My step dad, who introduced me to Steve's and is a coffee fiend, loves their shot in the dark. The staff over the years have always been friendly, hard working, and consistently accurate - I don't think I've ever had my order made incorrectly. Food from the kitchen comes quickly. I recently learned they no longer have lunch options, but still have a nice menu for breakfast. It has a total neighborhood cafe feeling inside - funky chairs, funky music, unique decor. I'm low key obsessed with the paintings on the walls. They DO NOT have WiFi deliberately to discourage people from plugging in and staring at a screen. As a result there's always a nice volume of people chatting, as well as hobby groups catching up or having monthly meetings, people playing games, or people reading a book (usually introverted me haha). Outside they have a few tables and dogs will often be chilling here, but the outside is pretty simple - tables and chairs on the sidewalk. Got the Aztec mocha iced which was good. They also have breakfast sandwiches but kitchen closed at 2:30pm so i wasn't able to try. Bakery items looked kind of dry so i skipped on those but the drink choices seemed varied and the atmosphere is great and cozy. Lots of room to relax on couches and booths. Only drawback is only open till 5pm so not best choice if looking for place to study late. read more

The best coffee I've had in Tempe! I usually get an iced americano black, and it never disappoints. Some places it's bitter or way too strong or acidic and you have to add cream, but here it's always smooth. The breakfast sandwich is fantastic. Came here as a recommendation from a friend who lives near by and it was a great idea! The decor sort of reminds you of your grandma's house with old wooden tables and mis-matched chairs and tables but its done in a nice way that's more trendy than odd. I had already had coffee unfortunately, but I tasted some of my friends and it was one of the best coffee drinks I've had. It was espresso, honey and milk I want to say but it was delicious. I ordered the continental breakfast because I was starving and it was great! That bread, let me tell ya', house made bread with preserves so darn good! the bacon was perfectly crispy and the greens were a nice added touch to say that I had my veggies for that meal. Atmosphere is easy to create for a coffee shop. Today, it's an expectation that spaces like these are open, airy, and have lots of power plugs for charging. It's also a nonnegotiable that your local coffee spot has WIFI. A huge miss on Steve's part. No charging spots and no local hotspot. I ordered the pastrami and brie on a croissant. The chips on the side were the star of the show. The croissant was cold, just like being pulled from a fridge. The brie was slightly melted and was topped with a heavy spread of horseradish. The sandwich needs something else to balance it out. Now to the bathroom. It reeked of sewer and sulfur. Despite the multiple air fresheners in there the problem needs to be addressed especially when there's food and drink being served. I was there for hours for business planning and the smell would come and go in the main part of the shop. In retrospect, the nasty water in my iced coffee and food served on the dishes lead me to never going back. Lots of misses and no hits. read more

I've been a Steve's Espresso customer since 2007. In that time, it's gone through several different phases. In 07, it was a small, stylish coffeehouse that stayed open late, offered great French Press, and constantly thumped with electronica. Every table had a plug strip and the wifi was reliable. Then came the fall. Steve cheaped out and got rid of the wifi and plug strips. He replaced all the little work tables with club chairs and midcentury tables. He tried adding food, but it was mostly just light fare and pastries. Then he started closing earlier and earlier. At one point, they were closing at like 2pm! Now, they've expanded dramatically, both in terms of physical space and offerings. They serve genuinely good hot meals and great coffee. They've got a ton of usable seating including work areas and overstuffed sofas. They still close early, but 5pm is better than 2. Steve, if you would bring back the wifi and stay open late, yours would be my favorite cafe in the country. read more

Great location, friendly staff who always have a smile. Very happy with their food and drink selection. The music they play is pretty good. They don't have Wi-Fi but don't let that discourage you because I have had both Sprint, which is terrible and T-Mobile which is much better and have never had a problem using the internet or making phone calls while I'm in the cafe. I tend to go in there on Sundays, it's a little bit more chill in my opinion, less people rushing around trying to get to and from work. The last time I went was today, I got a Triple Espresso, just shots mind you, I'm Italian and don't have time to drink a big coffee, but their expressos are great and they are very smooth. I think the first time I came to this location was back in 2009, I'm sure they've been here longer than that but the place has expanded and now they have much more room for seating which is great for the weekdays when people are rushing in and out.
