I got braces there. Dr. Harper himself is very kind and reassuring. It's right across from the high school, which is convenient, and the staff are kind and it is not uncomfortable at all in the waiting area and it's not hard to find since it's the first thing you see when you walk in. Although, I don't live in Martinez anymore and have graduated high school and have gotten my braces removed I still have to wear my retainers every night. read more

So far so good with dealing with this orthodontist. I really like not being bullsh***ed when it comes to dentistry. The care seems pretty straightforward. My son has been not the best at wearing or keeping his retainer. At one point during the course of our retainer experience the Dr. just broke it down for him simply. He told him he had to wear the retainer for X amount of days in a row then once he's done with that he can lessen the days of wearing. My son did it as best as he could. Then right about when we were making great progress and possibly not needing to get braces my son lost his retainer at an A's game while at summer camp. So, as the parent, I'm over it. We are going to go down the road of braces because, you cant lose braces. He wont need them very long thankfully. My son is doing fine and actually taking care of them pretty well. He doesn't seem to complain about the braces as much as he complained about the retainer. I can tell my son likes the Dr. He actually listens to him. Much better than he listens to me. I have another kid who will be coming in soon for her ortho needs too. Most of the staff is great. All of the RDA's rock. I've only had one incident of weird attitude from someone in the front office after I told her I was brining a check down to pay for the braces. She seemed mad I was going to pay for half the braces up front. I just requested to not have her work on our file again. That request has been met. UNCOMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT // UNSUCCESSFUL TREATMENT Office/Environment: Most of the office staff is quite unprofessional; especially the front desk lead, who is Dr. Harper's wife-- so there's little that can be done to correct or improve her abilities and attitude. The practice seems to be overbooked and the staff gets easily frustrated with their clients; even calling them 'demanding,' and getting annoyed by questions. In my experience, the practice is very good at selling packages and getting new clients in; but then the continued attention is neglected and there's not time for sufficient care. After signing on the dotted line, the level of respect declines. Over the course of my treatment at Harper Orthodontics, emails have regularly gone unreturned. This seems to reveal how the office is inundated with more clients than can be properly cared for. I also was unable to access Dr. Harper over the course of my treatment. I tried to save all questions for our appointments, which got written on my file as still having questions, still not understanding etc. It was not a safe environment. I was discouraged from being properly informed. Service Experience: Dr. Harper is friendly, and professional in manner overall; however (at times) he was unable to effectively communicate; especially when it came to unexpected changes to our treatment plan. He also neglected to acknowledge when our treatment plan went significantly over the said timeline. Overall: Harper Orthodontics did not provide me with the services I paid for. My nearly $7,000 treatment was not effective, and I've been offered no refund, so that I can continue treatment with another provider. The treatment did not correct my overbite. I have already paid for orthodontic treatment in full. I should not have to double pay for a new provider to continue treatment that was already paid for at Harper. I did not consent to paying $6,800 for my teeth to be mostly straightened. I paid because I was told I would receive a specific outcome, including totally correcting my overbite. Per Harper Orthodontics' email on July 21, 2020, our treatment plan reads as "18mo aligner treatment followed by 6mo braces." That's a year and a half on Invisalign at the most. Even though for a large part of that I changed out trays once a week, instead of twice and was told that was tracking/working. I went through the pain of changing out weekly, expecting that would accelerate my process; hopefully cut it in half. I at least expected to finish within the timeline. We are now over two and a half years in, and haven't even started the braces component. We are somehow in an experimental phase where I am wearing various retainers that he wasn't even sure would work. This is not what I agreed to or signed up for. If the doctor stuck with our original, agreed upon treatment plan I likely would've been done by the time I moved. If he had started braces in the summer of 2022, I might have have been done by my April 2023 move. Instead, he switched to experimental retainers, without my proper understanding or consent. The retainers aren't working, and this mysterious shift from our plan is further dragging out my treatment timeline. I feel I'm owed a duty of care. I am not happy with this treatment experience and I want my money back, so that I can finish my needed orthodontic treatment (braces) with a new provider. The company has not attempted to resolve this issue. read more

Dr. Harper and staff are phenomenal! My stepson is a very anxious child. He had a loose tooth that needed to come out and he was panicing about it. Dr Harper negotiated, calmed him, talked with him ect, for over an hour. His office was now closed. Not only was his office closed it was his 40th birthday and he was now late to his own birthday dinner. He didn't complain. He was more worried about making sure that loose tooth was out and Damian was calm. Dr. Harper has patience like a Saint! He's great. If someone needs orthodontics, they would be silly not to utilize this very caring Dr. especially if the dentist is a scary place. read more

My 9 year old is one of those cases that need something done BEFORE he's in High School. Poor kid has a "narrow mouth" and his adult teeth started coming in had nowhere to go; it was looking pretty bad (yikes) :/ They were NOT my first choice: One of my good friends referred us to Dr. Tanner and Dr. Reichhold in Walnut Creek. After seeing the high tech kid friendly sign-in, games and incentives I was impressed! They went on to take 15 different photos and several sets of x-rays (they didn't want to refer to the ones that I brought from his dentist). Wow, kind of wasteful (I thought), but as long as it's a FREE consultation, I let them do their thing. A little later, I was brought "to the room" and met with a "special plan specialist" to discuss the Dr's recommendations... HOLY CRAP!!! 1 set of braces while his baby teeth continue to fall out, then ANOTHER SET OF BRACES once all of his adult teeth are in?!?! TOTALING $9,000?! For braces! Um, no. So I went to the internet and searched 6 different orthodontists in our area. I spoke to them on the phone for 3-5 minutes each. I visited with 2 different offices. After our consultation, we thought about it and compared them with the others that we had visited and talked to on the phone. We PICKED DR. HARPER that day :) He's not the cheapest, but he's young (is aware of the newest technologies), great with kids (it's all about the kids) and he had the double set of braces when he was a kid so he knows the good, bad and ugly. Super kid friendly staff, very responsive to all questions and/or concerns and it's super clean and comfortable inside. MOST IMPORTANTLY, he is more realistic on his approach to braces and resolving each individual's issues. We've gone with a top/bottom expandable retainers to make room for all those adult teeth that are coming in. Get this, Dr. Harper states that my son my NOT EVEN need a set of braces later in life, since we're making room for them now! I feel very confident in his abilities and his view on how to work with what you've got (at different stages). He definitely LOVES his work and the kids that he helps. Dr. Harper is the OPPOSITE of the ones (Dr. Tanner) that squeeze your insurance for every fractional cent and then attempts to gouge us parents :( FINAL Note: When my son put his retainers in his pocket and bent down and accidentally snapped one in half :/ ... Dr. Harper complimented my son on how well he had been taking care of his retainers (cleaning them and turning the key), then told my son that he wasn't going to charge us for the repair (an $80 charge). This Dr. is pretty down to earth and has made remarkable changes in my sons smile in less than 4 months!!! I am pleased :) read more

We went to Dr. Harper as a second opinion after seeing Dr. Tanner and Reichold previously. We are brand new to the area but needed an Orthodontist as my son is 2/3 of the way through with having braces. Our first opinion indicated that all of the hardware would need to be removed and started over from scratch adding 2-3 years more to my son's treatment, also to the tune of $$$ that was way more than we we were expecting or could afford. They also offered that it may be in our best interest to pay the airfare to fly our son back to our previous state each month to have his old Ortho continue treatment. (Sad to say that option was cheaper than Tanner and Reichold would have charged us). We came to Dr. Harper for a second opinion and I have to admit I wasn't holding out much hope. Much to my absolute pleasure and surprise Dr. Harper had no problem taking off from where the previous Ortho left us and said treatment should be only 12 more months (which is what our initial Ortho stated as well). Not only that but the fee is well within our budget and we are now excited to get started! Dr. Harper and all the staff we encountered were very welcoming, professional and super personable and likable! My son is excited to finish out this process with them. What can I say about Dr Harper? I got my braces off almost a year ago so I think I can make a pretty fair assessment of my treatment. Initially when I went in for my consultation, I had already seen three other Orthodontists so I had an idea of what to expect. I was wrong, everyone else wanted to pull teeth to make their job easier. Not Dr Harper, he said it would take longer but it would be better for me in the long run, he said something to the effect of "why pull perfectly healthy teeth?" I was a very hard treatment for him, being an adult getting braces was scary. But it was one of the best things I have ever done in my life! I had terrible fear about smiling, it has done so much for me emotionally, and my confidence. His staff are all so nice and genuinely amazing people. I was in treatment with Dr. Robin WIlliams in Concord for three years. Quickly I will tell you that Williams not only made my teeth WORSE than when I went in but he pretty much stole all my money as well. In desperation I went for a second opinion with Dr. Harper. Dr. Harper debanded me and rebanded me using better appliances. What a difference! Dr. Harper is great. He is friendly and very knowledgable. After just two months of treatment with him my teeth are looking so much better! I have two nephews that have seen him as well and their teeth look beautiful. Dr. Harper is great, but I haven't experienced a 5 or even 4-star experience from the staff. For the past year, I've experienced overcharges, which resulted in bank overdraft fees for their mistake, dropped appointments, difficulty reaching staff and receiving call backs left on voicemail. I had a lovely conversation with Dr. Harper about my concerns and right after leaving the office on the same visit, the wire in my son's mouth popped out. Dr. Harper was so embarrassed - don't blame him after a long talk about expectations and bad experience with staff. Wish I would have done more homework before signing up here. read more

They staff was very nice and Dr. Harper was nice as well. My daughter has about 8-9 months of treatment for phase 2 and we were changing Ortho's so we went in for them to finish treatment-well a consultation. With them not changing any of the brackets or anything just doing the last followup appointments they were charging us $4000. This is outrageous! I understand IF my daughter needed work completely redone but she doesn't! I believe this is a complete rip off. The lady in their office doesn't seem to have her numbers correct. AND/OR she was trying to completely rip me off which I DO NOT appreciate!!! Again, I would understand if they had to re-do the current work but they are leaving everything as is. Dr. Harper has a very immature and unprofessional staff. They were willing to work a deal out with me by making two contracts for my son's braces. One for my half, one for his father's (my EX husband's). However, when I payed my portion & he did not pay his, I began to get harassed in front of a waiting room full of people. However, worse than the embarrassment I endured was the fact that my son was present who has no contact with his father & needs no reminder of his lack of contribution to his needs. Dr. Harper and his staff have been more than wonderful through my entire orthodontic journey. My case was pretty challenging, especially since it involved double jaw surgery. I was referred to Dr. Harper by my dentist and I'm so glad I chose this office! Not only have they been extremely professional and accommodating through the entire process, but they've given me the results I've always wanted. I was in college during the first part of my treatment (prior to surgery) and they always went out of their way to work with my hectic schedule; I lived 4hrs away at the time and never once regretted not going to a local orthodontist in my college town! I had originally gotten a 4-year treatment estimate from a different office when I was younger (and that's without taking jaw surgery into consideration)... so I was beyond ecstatic when it only took 2 years for Dr. Harper to work his magic. I also really appreciated the fact that he's open to different approaches. I wasn't sure for a while if I could get the surgery, and it was comforting to know that he had different treatment options in mind in case the surgery was not covered by my insurance.
