I'm pretty sure they were re-evaluating their purchase of the practice after seeing me that first day, but they immediately put me at ease. They listened, understood my history, and made me feel completely safe and comfortable. Soon after meeting them, one of my old veneers (from a childhood snow-sledding accident) came loose. They saw me right away and when it became clear the veneer wouldn't hold anymore, they transitioned me to a crown, coordinating everything with my insurance. It looks completely natural -- and they even took me outside in natural daylight to match the color perfectly instead of the office lights. Brilliant! BU Dental believes that a healthy mouth makes for a healthy body. They practice holistic dentistry, looking at the whole person -- not just your teeth -- and how oral health connects to overall wellness, nutrition, and lifestyle. I never realized the connection but now it totally makes sense to me. Patty at the front desk deserves her own gold star -- she's always cheerful, smart, and a total pro at navigating insurance. I once stopped by when the office was closed on a Friday and saw them donating their time and money to help a gentleman with extensive dental issues. Apparently they regularly give back by working with oral surgeons and other practitioners to assist veterans, seniors, challenged and indigent patients in our community that nobody ever knows about except the person receiving the treatment. I've been going to Dr Bautista for years now. I e been a patient from SF, to Walnut Creek. She now has her own practice in Pleasant Hill with her colleague Dr Uddaraju and they make a great team. I since moved to San Jose and have tried practices closer to me and nothing comes close. Love the work Dr. Bautista & Dr. Uddaraju do at their dental practice and highly recommend to friends and family. They are all about preventative, proactive and holistic care and are very caring, knowledgeable and patient-oriented at their practice. They have been mine and my family's dentists for the last 3 years and are fantastic at what they do. I wasn't always consistent with my oral health (i.e. flossing) over the years growing up, but they really helped me understand the importance of oral health and the impact it could have on different phases of my life and the relation between the oral microbiome and GI issues (which I had for years prior). I have to really attribute this to the bacterial testing which they do at their practice, and seeing the bacteria in my mouth was really impactful in influencing me to take better care of my oral health. They always spoke in a way that showed that they were invested in my health more than just a patient and actively educated me on steps to take better care and/or only necessary treatments. Kudos to both Dr. Uddaraju and Dr. Bautista for easing my fears, educating me on the importance of flossing and taking care of my gum health, and keeping my oral health in check with the latest technology. I love using their VR glasses during my cleanings and am able to relax knowing that they have it all under control. The Doctors and staff are very professional. They give high-quality care. Everything is based on evidence based research when they give you a recommendation on how to treat your teeth. Cleanings are not even cleanings, barely cleaned my teeth. On top of that they missed a lot of issues going on in my mouth. Got a second opinion at a different clinic and they were able to take care of all the dental issues they missed. Thankfully because the cavities would have gotten worse. Don't recommend unless you have a history of perfect teeth. Also staff act unprofessionally in front of patients, first time I've encountered that in a dental office, especially when they are working on my mouth and gossiping about others in front of me. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I was a patient of Dr Fraga's and then began seeing Bautista when she took over. She destroyed on of my upper molars - initially saying I need a filling when i had just seen Fraga 6 months prior with no indication - and he had always been extremely cautious and proactive with treatment. She was abrupt and rough when doing the filling and I continued to have pain for 2 weeks. Prior to my appt my sister was being seen - she texted me that Bautista was talking about me disparagingly to another staff member in front of her saying she had told me all along I needed a crown but I had refused. This was blatantly false - and an extreme violation of my privacy. When I arrived for my appt, she informed me I now needed a crown. I allowed her to do the crown. She then tried to push expensive new services on me - including Invisalign, arguing they were necessary - It was such an awful experience and completely eroded my trust - not to mention she and her staff had made my teenage niece cry from rude comments they made to her at her appt - so I moved practices. Upon exam at my new practice, it was determined I then needed a root canal because of the damage she had done to that tooth. The endodontist was able to do it without removing the crown Bautista had placed. The crown has given me trouble for the past year and a half since - it was done so poorly that it left a massive gap between it and my back molar. We were forced to replace it a month ago and now I'm forced to pay out of pocket for it because my insurance rejected the claim because I had just had the crown done less than two years before. So now we are left paying nearly $2000 - in addition to what I already paid Bautista and what I had to pay for the root canal - all because of Bautista's incompetence. Other than correcting all of the trouble resulting from this series of errors in treatment, I have had no issues with my teeth since leaving Bautista's practice - and my new practice has not even mentioned any of the other expensive out of pocket treatments Bautista had said were "necessary." read more

Dr. Annie thoughtfully listened as I explained to her my experiences with my previous dentist. Dr. Annie really took care of me, explained every process that she was performing and purpose of the examination. I appreciated understanding what and why it was needed to be done for our appointment. In addition, it's great to understand your overall dental health. I was so impressed by Dr. Annie's state of the art technology in her office from x-rays, to the photo technology of your enamel and the camera to view the bacteria in your mouth. BU Dental continues to exceed my expectations in every way. I've had a lot of dental work done in my life and can safely say that this dental practice is the very best. The receptionist, technicians, and dentists are kind, knowledgeable, and excellent. The practice has the latest dental equipment which they use to great effect. I've had two crowns done which were relatively painless. They were so perfect that I had no high spots and my old retainer still fit. What a testament to excellent care! My last crown was done today and I was offered VR glasses. It was wonderful to watch TV and be distracted during the drilling. Wow! I can't say enough good things about this practice. I have so many reasons to recommend BU dental to everyone I don't know where to start. Due to long past trauma in a dental chair, I have severe trust issues with dentists. I was a patient of Dr Fraga and when he sold the practice I was devastated, despite his promises that he had his patients best interests in mind when he chose who to sell his practice to. He chose so wisely. Dr Serah and Dr Bautista are the absolute best. When I first met Dr Serah I was literally sobbing uncontrollably from fear. He was so calm, patient and gentle. That was the last time i cried in his chair. He has worked on my teeth for 2 years now and I have never felt any pain at all. Dr Bautista is wonderful, also gentle and kind. My children think she is so funny. When I flossed my temporary crown off (sorry guys!) Dr Bautista came in to reattach it the day after Thanksgiving, when the office was closed!!! The hygienists and office staff are so nice and so helpful. I've never had any kind of negative feelings going here. They have great tech too, you can watch movies and shows on glasses while they work, they take samples of the bacteria in your mouth and show you so you know how to best take care of your mouth! I have a fear of dentists but I came into BU Dental needing some emergency work done on my tooth. The attention to detail and calming voice of Dr. Bautista is top tier. I felt comfortable with her staff and more educated about my overall dental health outside of just flossing and brushing. Hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. Ive had terrible experiences with dentists over the past 10 years. Being mistreated, scammed, and given terrible service. So Im incredibly wary of going to new people. But Dr. Bautista made me feel comfortable and welcome immediately. She listened to me and talked with me, rather than at me. When I asked if we could save my tooth from a root canal she said it might be tough but she'd try. Guess what? She did it flawlessly. I experienced no pain or swelling during or after the procedure. My jaw even cramped and my lip started quivering due to the muscle stress and I asked her to give me a second. She stopped immediately and started rubbing my jaws and neck to help with the cramps and spasms. I could've cried from that small act of kindness. I expected her to just get up and leave for five to ten minutes and then come back like most dentists I've encountered. Nope! Not Dr. Bautista. Her care and attention to detail is top notch. I cannot say enough about Dr.Bautista. I hate the dentist and am deathly afraid and have the worst anxiety. Dr.Bautista was nothing short of patient and kind. She was tentative and listened to all my concerns. She offered me sedation so I could calmly get my procedure done. I have no idea what the other reviewer Kay is mentioning perhaps she is referring to another Dr.Bautista because I have never had any of the negativity from the office. All the staff is super nice and personable. I had another dentist quote me over 10k for dental work locally and I was complaining to Dr.Bautista about everything another provider said I needed and she was so compassionate and kind and worked with my budget. My whole family goes to see her now because of her kindness and attention to detail and the professionalism of both her and her office staff. You can tell how passionate she is about her practice because she is constantly working to accommodate her patients I have called multiple times and she has come in later hours to see my family. In April 2023, Dr. Melvin Wells and Dr. Kenny Frada both retired and sold their practices which were then combined to form BU Dental. The two new dentists then replaced the existing staff members, so this is a new and completely separate entity. Having been a patient for more than 30 years I have to say the change has not been a positive one. My first experience was Dr. Bautista rushing into the waiting room to introduce herself. She asked who I was seeing that morning. I said the name of my regular hygienist and she immediately began telling me how that person was having family issues and needed to take some time off. She went on to tell me more which I won't repeat here but suffice it to say all kinds of alarm bells were going off in my head. I was instantly concerned about the lack of confidentiality displayed. That was just the beginning of the unprofessional behavior I witnessed. You see staff members doing squats and stretching exercises in the hallway, people filing charts dressed like they're going out to wash their car, early morning appointments where the doctor shows up 30 minutes late, and a dental hygienist who seems to have the knowledge of a first semester student. For a cleaning I was put in a room that did not have a spit basin. After spending only 15 minutes cleaning my teeth I was handed a tissue to wipe out my mouth. The hygienist didn't even seem to be aware that I had a partial and tried to clean my teeth with it in. As a whole, they have not come close to demonstrating the level of knowledge and professionalism I was accustomed to. read more
