Had dinner here recently with my husband, and we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant selection in Parkchester is pretty lackluster overall, so we were glad to finally try this place and find that we wouldn't mind going back. Like other reviewers have said, the ambiance is that of an old-school diner/restaurant-- a genre I know a lot about, coming from Jersey. I like that there's plenty of elbow room, and when we stepped in (sorry, sorry-- I had to!) on a Friday night around 9 we were seated immediately and given prompt and attentive service. My husband had the lamb shank special, and I had the fried chicken. The quality of the chicken was not high (dark meat, which is usually my fave, was super greasy and not big on flavor-- Purdue-esque), but the coating was well-seasoned, crispy, and addictive. Mashed potatoes were comforting, and the steamed broccoli had some reassuring crunch. The lamb shank fell away from the bone, and the braising sauce was aromatic and surprisingly complex. We'll be back, and we'll save some room for dessert next time! read more

Great service and ambiance. Brunch special was great and they offered Bellinis which is a nice option since every other place only serve mimosas. My only tid-bit is that the french toast was made on what seemed to be regular bread. It was still delicious but not something I'm use to or would order again. I will be coming here again! read more

So, they have like these lunch specials here...you get like a soup, meal, beverage + dessert. So we ordered mozzarella sticks for the appetizer and they came out cold, so we sent them back and they came back super oozey and delish. I ordered the cheese steak and it was just average, nothing too crazy or special. Decided to go to Stepp In last night because when Applebee's makes you wait for a table and the place isn't packed thats a huge problem. I've always had Step In for takeout and I can never complain. The food was always delicious. Yesterday was my first time actually dinning in on Step In. It is now revamped they did a great job beautiful cherry wood seating they also now have a DJ who is spinning some great old school hip hop, freestyle and soul hits. Food was delicious and the service was very quick and friendly. I ordered the Step In burger. It is a must have for burger lovers. It has a huge piece of fried mozzarella bacon and siracha mayo all in one it was heaven in my mouth snd it is also one of the best burgers I had in a long time.I will definitely be going back again. I like the Step In and have frequented both the restaurant and Lounge areas as the location is split into halves. I'll talk about the Lounge. You can order food on the lounge side which has a full bar with counter seating on the left, a narrow walkway, with 2 person seating until you get to the rear where there are 4 person tables and a few booths near the restroom. The Bartenders are always personable although they maintain a steady hustle in there.I've been there enough times to have seen them help safeguard, keys, cellphones etc and soggy patrons are usually able to recover any items lost or left behind with the help of the patient and smiling staff. It's usually packed on the weekends, standing room only at times...but the drinks are good and the music is always on point so you shouldn't let that shake you. Televisions are available but you'll have too much fun to care. Patrons are not intrusive strangers, but welcoming and friendly and the general mood is usually fun and laid-back. Although the Lounge quarters are a little close to handle large groups, It's a definite stop for decent food, delicious drinks, good music and comfortable atmosphere! *Street parking so opt for trains or buses as there are many close by! Was finally able to Step In to this neighborhood place that I've been meaning to try. The restaurant itself is nice and clean. And my server was friendly But I just wish they use better quality ingredients for the food. I ordered the " Cajun Chicken Salad" and there was absolutely nothing Cajun or spicy about it. Let's talk about what's important here, value. Value is what you'll get here. The food is good and if you want a dish a particular way, they will do everything in their power to accommodate you. Plus, to those people complaining about prices, look at what you get as opposed to what you're paying. The most unprofessional security staff/bouncers I have ever encountered, the restaurant is stuck between wanting to be a club or a restaurant, stay far away from this place after 10p until respect for customers improves and piece of shit bouncers fired! This is one of the few resteraunt/lounge/bars that I frequent in the Bronx. The food is decent and so are the drinks. Great location close to public transportation. I made a positive review a while back praising this place. I still come here because the convenience of location for me, but I have to say that the service is horrible especially on weekends. I found myself flagging down the very rude waitress multiple times to refresh drinks, she never came on her own to check on the table not once! I even had to get up from my meal to go to the bar to get something to drink hoping my food would still be warm when I got back to the table. The coconut shrimps are just as good too. The service is pretty good. The waiters come to you right away when you call them.The ambiance is of an old school diner. There is a bar next to the restaurant and it can be rowdy. Sometimes the people come to the resturant drunk and can be a bit loud but I ignore it even though it can be uncomfortable but tolerable. Now their course menu. It can be a hit or miss. It is either over spiced or overdressed. For example, the chicken ceaser wrap had TOO much dressing. Sometimes I had to dry it off with a napkin. I think it can be done if you ask not to put too much dressing or to put it in a cup. -The country chicken ( i forgot what its called maybe I have it right) can sometimes be very salty due to the gravy or not. This place is a gem! From the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted. We went here for the Valentine's dinner. Our waiter was very attentive. The main attraction was the food!!! OMG so good. executive Chef Joab out did himself. I started with the fried calamari with a creamy savory citrus dipping sauce. For the main course I had the braised short ribs with Japanese sweet potatoes. The meat was so tender. It was yummy goodness. My husband started with the steamed short rib sliders which were full of great flavored. So good. His entree was the duck confit with a potato hash. The duck was cooked to perfection. I don't know what was in the potato hash but it was delicious. I can't wait to see what else Chef Joab has up his sleeve. Keep up the great work Joab!!! I am gay. I went to this place with my partner, I've gone many times before. I've experienced the stupidity of the Bronx. I realize now why everywhere else is elevating themselves and their processes to a higher level. I stayed and enjoyed myself and my partner up until karaoke, where they allowed someone to sing a song about "batty boys", which is the homo-paranoid lingo of Jamaica. When I address my waitress, who had been bubbly and friendly, I was openly attacked. I am a fiftynine year old gay black man, who has lived in New York my entire life, whose family was involved in the civil rights movement who was taken to the march on Washington and was just a few years from stone wall. I was appalled at the negetive behavior of this venue. Nowhere have I experienced this behavior in the City of New York, that has been pro-civil rights for all its population. I am disgusted and horrified at the behaviors and attitudes that I see in this borough and I am willing and ready to remove myself from this borough forever. I have lived in cities in the south, and have never experienced this level of stupidity and indifference as I have here. I wish the Bronx would remove itself from wonderful beautiful sophisticated renewing New York. I would support it to become its own third world city amongst the glory of the eastern seaboard. I really want to like this place, especially since they remodeled it and added some craft beers to the menu, which also has a lot of interesting new food items (I only tried the nachos, which were fine). Unfortunately, for my first and only visit the bartender charged my credit card twice for my tab. So I'm now engaged in the hassle of disputing the charge with Visa and all that goes along with that. So I love going to this place for breakfast and lunch. Its right up the block from where I live and its a decent place. It has become a part of my neighborhood since its been here for so long. I grew up going to this place with my siblings. So to simply put it: Pros -great service(super friendly most of the time and they always check up on you and get whatever you need) - their breakfast platter(get the corn beef hash) is very filling, tasty, and yummy! - cheap yet reasonable price! -take out Cons -Sometimes you don't get what you think you ordered.
