    "Flaky puff pastry Beignets"

These are the $11 beignets that are advertised as flaky puff pastry. They were significantly overcooked and even burnt and definitely not flaky.

Always love their gravlax. Radler is good for summer

I couldn't believe that I hadn't written a review for Stella's after so many times eating here in the past when I was a Winnipeger for 12 years. Everyone who lived in Winnipeg quite long will enjoy this local ownership place. My love to this place started when I used to work there as a line cook but I only worked for a month coz I had a different opportunity. Visiting Stella's again to have a get-together with my former coworkers in Winnipeg. I picked this place because I think Stella's is a symbol of Winnipeg local restaurant which most of my ex-Winnipegger friends agreed.

    Cafe mocha. Cafe latte

Went for breakfast early on a Saturday. We were seated right away and our server was quick with water and our drink order. He clearly knows that caffeine is important. The cafe mocha and latte were great. The maple French toast with blueberries (extra because they were out of banana) was tasty and filling. The homefries were good too. The oatmeal was a healthy portion with brown sugar and blueberries and almond milk. The rite toast with 'their jam' was really good. A definite must to try. Service was quick, server was great. All in all a return visit for sure.

    Bustling for brunch

Stella's seems like the place to go for brunch in Winnipeg. Not only is it super popular, it really seems like the only place that does brunch in town. Luckily, there's several of them. Well done, Stella. You seem to have somehow monopolized Winnipeg's brunch scene. It's got a casual vibe and plenty of hustle bustle. You'll find both young professionals and young families. When it comes to the menu, it seems like there's a bit of an attempt to push some boundaries, but keep it rather traditional as not to scare people. Step out of your comfort zone and try some sunny side up eggs, Winnipeg. You can do it! To avoid the Lengthy lineup, they were very accommodating of letting us order our food to go. It was really fantastic to have that option. Thanks for helping us out Stella's, I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to come back the next time I'm in town. Unless, that is, someone else realize man they too can open up a kickass brunch joint, at which point I'll probably check them out. It won't be because I don't love you, Stella's, but variety is the breakfast spice of... Breakfast. See what I did there? No, me neither.

Awesome experience, great croissants and pies! They are just amazing! I highly recommend

    Veggie baked eggs

I enjoy dining at Stella's - it's nice that they have been expanding all over the city. The Grant location has been around for sometime and it's always packed with a massive group of people waiting to brunch. The scenery is basic restaurant type, not as beautiful as the Stella's at the Plug downtown locatoin but the service is still very nice and laid back. Food pumps out pretty quickly and their food is very consistent compared to all the Stella's in the city. Definitely, come about 30-45 mins ahead of time but that can be said for many of the other locations. I love their Veggie baked eggs ($9.25) - I just get mine with two eggs and spinach and cheddar cheese and omit the mushrooms and tomatoes but that's a personal preference. The eggs are topped with salsa and served with hash browns, toast & jam. Yum. Provolone roast chicken sandwich ($10.45) is another good choice. You really can't go wrong with breakfast here but just have to be a bit patient with the sometimes pushy crowd at the front. Upside is that there's plenty of parking in the stripmall area.

    Ham and cheese omelette

A breakfast institution, as far as I understand, in Winnipeg and it does not disappoint. They have food that's prepared with very fresh ingredients and has a large menu from which you can choose from. I choose the ham and cheese omelette, hash browns, and multi-grain toast. The omelette had nice big bites of ham and lovely melted swiss cheese. Not too salty (which they can be) and the hash browns were nicely browned on the outside and tender on the inside and seasoned with rosemary. The toast was excellent with their homemade berry jam. If you're looking for a great breakfast place, I highly recommend trying any Stella's in the city.

Hubbies Chorizo hash - he let me have a taste. Sooo good.

Decent food but service wasn't really friendly (they made us leave as soon as we payed) and I think it's a bit overpriced

Very charming and did everything to make our evening very special. He gave good recommendations and was very attentive without being intrusive. We came for an early dinner on a Wednesday so it was very quiet in the restaurant. I started with scallops which were cooked perfectly and had a very tasty aioli. For our entree's I had the beef tenderloin, my wife had pork tenderloin and my mother in law had a chicken linguini. My beef was cooked perfectly medium rare and was awesomely seasoned. The accompanying vegetables were great and I had an order of asparagus with bernaise. The bernaise was thicker than I expected but still had good flavour. My wife's pork was filled with apples and other things and wrapped in prosciutto. She said it was the best one of the best pork dishes she had. Lastly my mother in law really enjoyed her pasta We would all come back to The Gates for a special occasion in the future.

They brought me hot water and an assortment of tea. Thank you!! ( and no charge) Some unpleasant things We found the bed very soft ( and prefer firm bed). It was more firm. We are in an adjoining room (338) and the person next door is showering and blowing their nose nonstop. It's like I'm right in the shower with him. Other guests also complained about hearing entire conversations from the rooms next door. Excellent location as it's a quick walk to The Forks for food and entertainment, plus the river walk area for running, skating, walking or biking.

It's clear that the current owner has tried to update the place to look more like a Motel 6 than what this beautiful building should be. Cheap renovations and tacky Target bargain furniture and light fixtures have stripped this place of its charm and history. All of the beautiful wood in the unit is painted white now and the hallways are a horrible and depressing dark grey. The furniture is cheap and over sized for the rooms. Room 619 had a bed so tall we had to ask to switch rooms. The front desk suggested they bring us a step ladder instead. Seriously?! We finally switched to 808 which had two regular sized beds that were a normal height and we didn't have to be watched as we went to the bathroom. Not sure why washrooms that face other units don't have window coverings! There are absolutely no amenities in the rooms. No fridge. An $8 plastic bottle of water. A Nespresso with coffee only. You have to ask for tea if you want it. Toiletries in the bathroom need revisiting. They're the same ones from 2010 from L'Occitane; tired, dated and horribly scented. More hotels have switched to more sustainable and options but here, you will still get a shoe mitt and shower cap. One bonus was two robes in each room. There is a small gym but no access to a pool. You can pay $12 next door. Apparently yoga is included, but no one told us about that upon check in for our weeklong stay. The wifi didn't work after the first night and staff weren't overly helpful about it. At $252 a night, this is not what we were expecting. Had we known how downhill this place has gone, we'd have opted for the Holiday Inn. Parking is $22 a night and the front entrance is permanently occupied by crowds of smokers. It's absolutely disgusting. This place is for sale so we really hope that the new buyer will help bring this beauty back from the depths of sadness.
