Stella is in the Westin Hotel on 5th street, it is sort of a corner diner. I like that it doesn't try to be high-flown like so many Austin establishments. The service is very good as is the food, including the honey butter biscuits which are a local favorite. This is one of my fav weekend breakfast spots. You can't go wrong here. This foodie was VERY pleased with this brunch. TripAdvisor was absolutely right in its high rating of Stella San Jac. The biscuits are different from a normal biscuit and I 100% approve. You can use the butter but it honestly doesn't need it. The chicken and waffles was good. It looks dry but once you cut into the chicken the juiciness will surprise you. What an amazing experience and incredible food, we started with Deviled Eggs and shared the Fried Avocado Salad which is the best salad I have had in years. For our entrees we had Pan Seared Chicken and Texas Red Fish, both knocked it out of the park but the best part of the meal was the service, Mayra was the best!! My party shared different plates, and we enjoyed everything that we ate. - Stella San Jac is known for their #16 Biscuits (named for the amount of attempts the chef took to make the perfect biscuit) with Whipped Honey Butter. I didn't think anything extra about the biscuits, other than they're made well. - Lamb Meatballs with Harissa and Mint: Three to an order, very tasty and tender meat. - Diver Scallops, served with Orange, Fennel, and White Balsamic Vinaigrette: the scallops are HUGE! They are pan-seared to perfection, and they melt in your mouth. The fennel adds a refreshing taste to the salty bite. - Beef Short Rib, with Sweet Potato Mash, and Green Apple Slaw: You get a huge slab of tender short rib. I would have liked more au jus with the meat, but it shreds easily with the fork. You also get a huge mountain of slaw and creamy potatoes. This is a complete and hearty meal. I ordered an Austin Mule as my drink for the evening. The unique recipe includes Mezcal, Lime, and Basil in House Made Ginger Beer. This is an excellent drink, especially if you're a fan of Moscow Mules. They also offer a variety of mixed drinks served in a giant copper Flamingo. I don't remember exactly what we ordered, but it was tasty, and there was a LOT of it and there were bits of fruits to fish out of the bowl. Stopped by here for a brunch and had a lovely meal with great service and VERY comfortable seating Ordered the salmon tartare which was a light appetizer. I liked the buttered toast that came with it, and it wasn't too salty and a nice portion for the price. Shrimp and crab roll was absolutely delicious and large in size, fully stuffed, but I can't say it's the best I've ever had. Very good, but don't expect it to knock your socks off. The service staff were nice from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. The overall atmosphere was inviting with low lighting and comfortable, stylish seating. The food was just OK. The fries were crispy and salted nicely but were uninspiringly basic. Same with the steak. My husband enjoyed his pork chop and grits with grilled corn. He's going to try that at home. The biscuits were dense. They needed preserves or honey to add additional moisture. They only provided short glasses for the water, so they had to be refilled repeatedly. Really loved this place! I was shocked when I discovered this little gem is located off the lobby of The Westin. The vibe and the atmosphere were jumpin' on a Saturday night and the staff was on it, including Brittney, our server. If you're in Austin check out Stella San Jac then walk to the Tau Ceti mural for an sight to see. I just moved here so I started noticing deviled eggs is a Texas thing. I've been trying them at every restaurant that serves them. Stella's is pretty good. I also noticed Texan grits include creamed corn, which takes my favorite meal to a whole 'nother level. Mmm mmm! I didn't like the BBQ sauce around my grits though. It felt like an after thought and "hey, it's Texas, throw BBQ sauce on everything" vibe, even if it's not right lol. Yup, the reviews and pictures do absolutely do this place justice. Do NOT skip the homemade biscuits. That's honestly what sold me on trying out this joint in the first place. A colleague and mine sadly missed the hop on hop off double decker bus and decided to have a nice casual brunch before heading home. I had bookmarked this spot so off we went. On a Friday around 1pm we were seated promptly at a two top with the cutest little blooming cactus. Service started out a little slow, sitting there waiting for a good 15 min or so before someone came over to us to even give us some water. All good though, as after that things picked up, we ordered, our food came in a decent time after and we marveled at the biscuits. Seriously ya'll, these biscuits - the rise on them a mile high - buttery delicious, with sweet butter to accompany - I was in heaven. I was able to save one to take home back to NJ for my husband. Even after another 6 hours in travel time - the biscuit held up (I was very careful with it haha) - and hubs loved it as much as I did. I had croque madam for my main - one of my fav. brunch items in the world. When I see it on a menu I always go for it. This did not disappoint - delicious ham layered between slices of texas toast, topped with a beautiful sunny egg - mmmhmmm yoke popping goodness! Served with a steak knife is a smart thing, def need some cutting power to get through the layers. I could only eat half. Colleague had the chicken and waffles - when it came to the table and I got a whiff - omg that chicken smelled delicious and I had slight food envy. We did not speak to each other - as the food was just too good to waste a moment on speaking haha. She said it was a great fried chicken and the gravy was a great topping for the waffle. I had a late lunch here. It was very quiet as most of the lunch crowd was already gone. I ordered the lamb meatballs, brussel sprouts and the biscuits, all of which were a delight! The lamb meat balls were juicy and very tasty, while the biscuits were soft and warm. My waiter was attentive and courteous. A great brunch option in downtown! Carafe of mimosas is $30 and food is delicious. GET THE BISCUITS FOR THE TABLE. Trust me on that. I had the smoked salmon bruschetta and others had the shrimp and grits. Everything was delicious. We heard the chicken and waffles are probably the best on the menu so I'll be back to try that. The bartender Saige is really sweet. She works hard & does a good job. The kitchen served me a totally burnt crispy chicken sandwich, so burnt so that the breading on the inside was burnt. Being as I've worked in hospitality I had a hard time sending food away or back. The manager came behind the bar multiple times, asked the same man sitting near me 3X how he was doing, never once approached me. The bartender tried to make up for my terribly burnt chicken sandwich by ordering me an app & while I don't eat that particular food I very much appreciate her for trying to make up for the food I didn't eat. My only reason for the 4 stars is because of the bartender. I think maybe management could have approached me in the 3X he approached the man next to me, I'd have felt much better. Overall, drinks were yummy. The spicy Paloma is VERY spicy so if you're into that, go for it. They don't have olives, which I find extremely odd as they're a much less cost than all the produce garnish they carry. Warning- don't order a martini w olives. Overall recommendation: Stop by for some cocktails but don't order the food unless maybe it's a salad. read more

My wife and I were going to the Russian Room... but when we arrived, before 9pm, on a Sunday, the kitchen was closed! So we walked across the street to this establishment. Elegance personified... upon walking through the door you are greeted by a warm fragrance in the air that I found out to be white tea scent. It is in the air throughout the location... in the bar, the main lobby (this location is in the Westin), the restaurant and the bathrooms... it is heavenly! Take some deep breaths and savor! It is very relaxing and inviting. The setting it's self is romantic, elegant, and sophisticated. We were seated immediately and our waiter was pleasant, not overwhelming, but always attentive, and very helpful. For all the ambiance and class the pricing was quite reasonable! Truly worth it and not at all as much as I would have thought this location would cost. One note... the drink part of the menu was in impossibly small type... they should supply magnifying glasses with the menus... I could not read it (see pictures) with or without my glasses! I had to ask the waiter for his recommendation for a cocktail (see pictures). I seriously could not read it at all. Luckily for me his recommendation was an excellent selection. My wife likes Brussel sprouts... I generally despise them... not just a dislike, but a serious deep loathing for them. However I will TRY anything once... so my wife ordered the fried Brussel sprouts with candied jalapeños. My first bite I wasn't sure but was not disgusted. My second bite the candied jalapeños really took hold. By my 3rd bite I had to admit... THESE ARE GOOD! Wow... I never expected that! Our waiter recommend the short ribs and we asked to sub the sweet potato mash with the agroton potatoes. It also comes with a green apple slaw. We savored every little bite! It was a masterful work of pure indulgent flavor! The potatoes were outstanding (maybe the best I have had), the short ribs were tender as could be, and the tartness of the slaw balanced out the plate entirely! The whole place was 5 star worthy for sure! Bathrooms were immaculate, the location on the corner perfect, the over all feel was elegant and service was wonderful. This was one of the best breakfasts that I have ever had in Austin. We started off hung over from the night before. Endless coffee with the fantastic waiter continuing to refill as I did not once need to ask for more. The Energizer juice was sensational and comprised of a carrot, orange mix with ginger. Then came the true treats: a delicious avocado toast for the group that had an interesting and delightful concoction: bruschetta, onion and olive oil. The main course was the amazing grand finale. It was an endless show of fireworks on the taste buds: a pumpkin French toast with fresh made cream and natural maple syrup and pecans. It was on the expensive side but the experience was well worth it. As of August 2019, this is my recommendation for Breakfast if one is downtown. read more

Great, friendly service! My coffee, orange juice and bloody mary were good. Sat at the bar for breakfast, my bartender was attentive and made me feel welcome. I stay in Austin most weekends, this was my first (and last) visit to Stella. Food is terrible. My bacon tasted like it was made yesterday then refrigerated. My toast was stale. The "hash browns" tasted like they were baked, refrigerated, then fried. They were very dry and a bit burnt. The salad on the plate was so sour that i gagged. The over easy eggs were the saving grace as they were cooked perfectly. Fortunately, the restaurant had Chalula to cover up the nasty food. In summary, great service, good drinks, beautiful decor, very welcoming, AWEFUL food! If you are in ATX, way better options are available, like Phoebe's. read more

I'm staying at the Westin which is a great hotel. Clean with a cool rooftop bar and pretty well equipped gym. The restaurant located in the lobby of the building was ok. Service was good and the place was rocking. They have a small brunch menu on the weekends and i struggled to find something healthy. I ended up getting a wagyu burger. Super juicy and delicious both way over cooked. Even when they made a new second burger for me, it was over cooked. If you can't cook a burger in two tries, i think that's a bad sign. read more

We were not too hungry and just decided to share the Short Rib Grilled Cheese and an order of Crispy Brussels. I really liked three the sandwich as it was made on a Hawaiian Roll and had smoked cheddar. The au jus sauce on the side was a nice dipping compliment, but slightly salty for me. I had the lamb lollipops and they were great. The herb crust was great. I just wish the server had asked me how I wanted it cook because it was very rare.
