a little on the pricy side for the portions of the dim sum / appetizer items; noodle portions are pretty large though -- the lychee tea's not bad either. overall, a pretty decently legit chinese place on whitney. read more

The eggplant appetizer is ON POINT! It's appearance made me a little suspicious but it was Amazing! Good dumplings too, but the soup (at least the veggie soup left us disappointed. Overall nice place to stop by particularly on a cold rainy day! read more

I was really happy to find this place on Whitney. Great food in a really lovely atmosphere at reasonable prices. I particularly recommend the pork soup dumplings, which I have been looking for in New Haven and hadn't been able to find until now - they are fabulous here! The noodle soups are also very tasty, and are quite large given the price. Not a ton of selection on the menu, but what they have is really good and I would strongly recommend it to anyone in New Haven looking for reasonably-priced Chinese food. read more

I finally made it to Steamed earlier this week. I was in the mood for tasty and flavorful Chinese food and this place was satisfying. My husband and I shared an order of steamed eggplant with smashed garlic and spices, pork soup dumplings, dan dan noodles, and savory chilled cucumber (which was a welcome soothing relief after eating our spicy dishes). Since we spent more than $20 we received the Steamed house special of four pan friend pork buns at no extra charge. I enjoyed all of the incredible flavors of textures of the dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're craving flavorful and authentic Chinese food served in small plates style. This is a perfect spot to bring your friends to share dishes and try different types of food. I will come back to Steamed soon! read more

My wife and I went to this place after work. I'm actually blown away by their seaweed salad and dumpling soup. The salad's dressing carries the flavor. It's sweet and spicy. The dumpling soup didn't need to be dipped in sauce. It's flavorful by itself. Their beef noodle soup though is a little bland. They could add a little more soy and more herbs to make the flavor exciting and intense. Other than that, the food in general is great, and not too expensive. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a new flavor. read more

I'm stoked about Steamed! We arrived around 1PM on the coldest day of 2019 and the 8 or so tables upstairs were full. But have no fear - we were seated downstairs. The restaurant smelled of brothy deliciousness and warmth which is exactly what the day called for. On this trip we went with three dim sum choices: scallion pancake, soup dumpling, and shrimp dumpling. The pancake is thin, crunchy, chewy, and the perfect amount of fried. I could not believe how good it was and definitely considered getting some to go. The order of soup dumpling (6 pieces) were initially not served with spoons so we stared at them for a while before asking for spoons. I'm still not sure if they didn't intend for us to eat these without spoons or not? ANYWAY - they are really good. The dumpling texture is perfect and the broth is full. The pork honestly was too fatty for me but I would get them again to try. Sadly we did not like the shrimp dumpling and, based off of the other reviews, I think it's just us. The dumpling dough was a thick translucent situation that, for me, was not appetizing to look at. The flavor itself is really fishy - like fish sauce fishy. So if you're into that then you will love this dish. We can't wait to go back with friends and sit by that cute window downstairs with the plants. read more

Amazing North Chinese food - tons of healthy noodle soups and unusual dumplings. Small menu but carefully curated.

Great place if your looking to fill your dimsum fix. I've definitely had better in Chinatown NYC but this place will do! I really enjoyed the veggie dim sum and the pork dumplings ! read more

Quality execution of favorite dim sum dishes. Tasteful and relaxed setting makes it a welcome addition to local New Haven eateries that are affordable and pretty legit as someone who is worn out driving to NYC and Westchester for similar fare. read more

Best soup dumplings within 30 minutes of New Haven. Pan fried bao buns were tasty too.

Amazing dumpling place . Love the shrimp dumplings and veggie dumplings. The scallion pancake is great too. No alcohol here and not too many veggie options read more

I'm a native Chinese and know Chinese food well. This place is far from anywhere you'll get authentic Chinese food! The quality is about a typical Chinese take-out. My friend and I ordered pickled pork bellies in Chinese bread, fried leek dumplings and house special fried noodle. The only edible food was pickled pork bellies in Chinese bread while the other two were of no quality! The leek dumpling was flavorless and the dough was So thick, not even as good as those frozen ones you get from a supermarket! The house special noodle was nothing but noodle, so dull, tasteless and not presentable. Will never go there again! read more

Food tastes amazing, and the restaurant has a really cozy environment! I had sour and spicy potato noodle soup with intestines 酸辣粉加肥肠，and it was extremely authentic. read more

Amazing real Chinese food! Great setup for COVID take away. Very nice people. Regular dishes and dim sum. More expensive than Great Wall, but very high quality. read more

Overall experience is terrible. The food was cold. The service was slow. And the entire restaurant is freezing! All the glasses were disgusting. The only food that came out hot was our shrimp dumplings. (Mind you we ordered two bowls of soup!!) read more

I came here with my boyfriend. We split scallion pancakes, pan-fried dumplings, and beef with julienne pepper noodle soup, which was a good amount of food. The noodle soup was a big hit for me. The flavors were well-balanced and there was a nice kick of heat. Even after I was full, I kept going back for more broth. NB: if you get one of the noodle soups, expect a big bowl! The scallion pancakes, which came out first, were also really tasty. The dumplings, which we received last, were good (and perfectly fried), but they weren't as incredible/complex as I was hoping they would be. (Perhaps I'm biased, since I eat a lot of dumplings.) Overall, I'll definitely be back for the soup, but I may fry up some dumplings at home next time before spending $9 for an order. read more

Good dumplings, Had chicken not spicy ramen soup which was good. Seems pretty pricey for what it is but ambiance good and food fresh.

Best. Dumplings in new haven proper. Quaint seating and ambiance. Small menu but does a really good job on the menu items it does have.

This was the very best place in New Haven to get steamed vegetable dumplings... but not anymore. They used to be big beautiful overstuffed hand made dumplings. But they've changed the recipe. Now they are small green lumps with hardly any filling. Disappointing. Pork buns are still good. read more

Sorry, it's really pretty bad. Over-spiced, over-salted, greasy and tasteless... The seaweed salad is nothing like the delicate variety served in Japanese restaurants. read more

Never listen to the note from the customer! I requested no cilantro and still got those stuff twice!

Had an awesome lunch today. We tried a variety of appetizers and buns. Loved the spicy eggplant and sticky rice with scallions. Yummy dumplings of many varieties and steamed or pan fried. We also shared a brisket vegetables noodle soup. Ample portions and spot on service! read more

I really, really wanted to love this place as I've been trying to fill the gaping hole in my heart that can only be filled with not-as-Chinese American food. But sadly, this place's service was way too slow, with multiple order mishaps, to be as enjoyable. We ordered a couple of soups and split the steamed pork buns with the crunchy bottom. Although they were satisfying, the bottoms could have been a teeny crispier. And a heads up, the sour and sweet potato noodle soup does not come with meat. Idk what I was expecting, for some reason I assumed there'd be pork chunks? Never had this dish before tho. And if you've never had intestines before, I HIGHLY suggest getting them as an add on! So crispy, yet chewy and melt in your mouth, slight funky tasting goodness. I'd try and ask for them with other soups too, they were that good. But overall, I'll definitely be trying this place again! read more

Very Disappointing We were heading to the other Chinese restaurant on the same block, but saw this place and decided to give it a try. First off, when we sat down and took off our coats, we noticed it was extremely cold. We asked if it was warmer downstairs, and was told yes, so we headed down there and sat at a table. Unfortunately it was uncomfortably cold there too. The decor and rustic ambiance was attractive. We ordered some Fried Pork Dumplings and a bowl of Braised Beef Brisket Soup. The soup came out first. I dug in and found a piece of "beef". It turned out to be almost entirely gristle. Between my wife and I, we found 6 small pieces of beef: all were tough, and 3 were very gristly. The soup itself was quite unexceptional. Finally the dumplings came out. They were alright, but nothing special about them either. We really wanted to be able to give this place a good rating, as it is a small mom-and-pop type place. But the uncomfortably cold temperature, coupled with a lackluster soup with very skimpy portions of meat, prevents us from honestly praising this place. We can't recommend it, and we certainly won't return. read more

I admit i'm not an expert on dim sum lol, but I went there and had the pork soup dumplings. It was delicious! The staff was really kind and attentive to me, they even were helpful and gave me tips on how to eat the dumplings as it was my first time eating Xiao Long Bao. I will definitely be going back! read more

I am Chinese and have been the US for 10 years and I tried different Chinese restaurants all over the US m. This one is the worst one! I went there twice. First time, I got pork dumpling soup （小笼包）. The dumpling is clearly warmed-up CHEAP frozen food which you get in most of Chinese supermarket. The 6 dumplings in a bag usually sells at $1-$2 and you pay $8-$9 just for that they warmed them up for you! I tried hotpot potato noodle soup (麻辣烫). That is totally a joke. No real meat just a few ( really just a few, 3ish) pieces of Spam(午餐肉), 2-3 ish fish ball slices. Are you serious? I never eat hotpot potato noodle soup with sliced fish ball! Come on! This is really the first restaurants in this planet I saw people use sliced fish ball not the whole of fish balls for hotpot potato noodle soup. The soup base they use is the hotpot base which are from the Chinese supermarket as well. Not authentic at all! You can not call your food 麻辣烫！ 麻辣烫uses real meat, whole size fish ball, really in house soup base! read more

Minced pork and "Cold" noodles that arrived hot unlike the menu that said cold and the 3 delicacies dumplings were both so completely over salted that it verged on inedible. Not cheap-not good. I have been to the one in Madison if this is the same chain and that wasn't too hot either read more
