Excellent food, great prices, good service. Great for quick lunch takeout. They also have a menu available for full service.

If possible, I'm a little indifferent to this place after going the other night. There's not really a good place to enter - there's no obvious host/hostesss or anyone to greet you when you get in. We waited around a bit and someone said "There's a table downstairs" so we walked down and were seated near the window which was cold, with a large plant in my face and my husband seated on a bench with no back. The menu was relatively small, but maybe that's common for dim sum places. They have no alcohol/beer here and they also did not have bubble tea which IS on the menu (which my friend wanted to order). We got hot tea instead. We ordered a few different types of dumplings - the shrimp were good (very hot!) and the fried pork dumplings were very good, especially the breading. I ordered wonton soup which I found a little bland. My friend asked for hot oil twice and we never got it. My friend and husband also ordered scallion pancakes and the leek dumplings (which are VERY large, so if you're going to get those, start with 1, not 2!) and enjoyed them both. Overall I wasn't wowed by anything in particular. Service was so so, we were cold the whole time, didn't get the hot oil, etc. I wouldn't be in a rush to come back here. read more

Steamed is excellent!! I love the chive box, one of my fave dim sum classics. So delicious!!! Chive egg and vermicelli yummy!!! I only wish it were cheaper like flushing prices. ($6 for one is more expensive than I'm used to.) The sheng jian bao (pan fried pork dumplings) are excellent. It's a delicious Shanghainese classic dim sum that steamed does a good job of. I tried the main dishes like the garlic eggplant as well, another favorite dish of mine. The elegant garlicky flavors are highlighted in delicious eggplant juice. Yummy!! The beef is super yummy too. I'm so glad New Haven has a Chinese dim sum spot. And I'm even more glad that it's not just traditional Cantonese style dim sum. The style that Steamed offers is more of a Shanghainese style mix, which is getting more popular these days!! They do also offer Cantonese dim sum classics like har gow (shrimp dumpling). I will definitely return!! read more

This is a follow-up review. After reading several of the recent whiny reviews I decided to return for takeout last night. I got three appetizers and four entrees. I didn't special order anything. I think several reviewers missed the fact that we have been negotiating a pandemic for several years now. Yes, several items that were previously on the menu are not there; the menu, with a lot of variety, does not have the exhaustive range of dishes one finds on offer from a Greek diner. Perhaps the cook couldn't get the ingredients? Perhaps they decided to focus on a few dishes and make them great. I have no idea. However, the food was spectacular! Spicy, deep, rich but not oily. This is not American Chinese food, so avoid if that's what you're looking for. But hot, tasty, with a variety of textures and flavor profiles, this place has it. And it took 15 from order to pick up. read more

Came here for lunch with a friend. Parking was easy during the day. We were seated almost immediately-I headed downstairs to make a pit stop at the bathroom and it definitely could have used a good cleaning. We ordered a few apps: soup dumplings, pork belly buns and a pan-fried dumpling. (Sadly they were out of the har gow). For the meal we ordered braised beef noodle soup. The first to come out was one braised beef noodle soup, which we were a little confused about as we thought it was the main course and we also ordered one each! The second item was the pork belly wrapped in a bun. It was plenty big so we split that. It was delicious but would have been nice with some pickled veggies or scallions. Next, the soup dumplings and pan-fried dumplings came out and both were also delicious. I finally got my braised beef noodle soup and it was perfectly balanced in terms of spices and flavors! The beef was great, would have loved more veggies though. Overall the food was great, I'd love to see the restaurant a little cleaner. read more

Wow what an experience!! As you can see my friends and I are loving the food almost as much as we love each other. Can I speak about the ambience? Sure, why not!! Steamed was cozy and comfortable, almost to the point of where I felt I was no longer in New Haven Connecticut. You won't find any egg rolls or duck sauce here, just some nice people and food that will guarantee to make your stomach smile. read more

Yuck Came in, place was full. Asked if we could wait, the server who barely spoke a word at all gave us a look and said we can do take out. We didn't mind waiting so we asked if we could wait for a table and he shrugged. We asked if he wanted our name and he said no. So we waited outside until we saw some people leave. We waited 20 minutes (which was fine) and sat down. We ordered the spicy and sour potato which was completely bland, no flavor no visual spice and potatoes were crunchy and undercooked. When mentioned to the server, he could not care less. He shrugged and said "mm". The cucumber was practically in a soup of flavorless sauce. The shrimp har gow was greasy and veggie dumplings hard on the edges. We watched the server turn away several other tables while we ate. Even when we were about to pay, a pair came in and he told them it was full and he didn't know how long the wait would be, encouraging them to leave. I hope he's the owner if he's so comfortable being so rude to people. I guess it's the best dim sum in New Haven but only since it's the only one. But it was really flavorless, generally awful, and you'd be better off buying some frozen trader Joe's gyoza and making it at home. read more

Absolutely horrible! I am beyond furious! Spent $35 Just for some tasteless dumplings with no freaking soup!!!!they all where split!! I wish yelp let you add a video but I guess a picture will do. The absolute worst place Ive ever tried. The chili dumplings where basic at most. I Feel like they just got dumplings from the asian market frozen section next door and served them to us. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Food service and ambience is an a+. Can't wait to try again. Wonton soup was superb.

This place is OK, but nothing really to rave about. If I could not leave the area, this place will do, but it's really not that great. We got the scallion pancakes, and it was a little better than frozen ones I buy at the Chinese supermarket. The fried buns were too bready, and the meat was only so-so. The soup dumplings were not bad, but not great. Considering I enjoy drives down to NYC, this place is not really worth my calories. I would rather save it for something of higher quality. read more

I have eaten there three times and it serves the best Dim Sum in New Haven. Service is great and they explain (servers and owner) how and with what each dish is made. Each time I went I brought a different friend, and they were just as pleased as I. Can't wait for my next visit! read more

# Food * scallion pancake (蔥油餅): it was a bit too fried. Not much scallion in the pancake, and not very flavorful overall. * pork soup dumplings (小籠湯包): some of the better ones I've had in Connecticut. The thickness of the dough was just about right--pretty thin but didn't break very easily. The filling was quite flavorful, plentiful, and full of soup. * shredded chicken in rice noodle soup (雞絲米線): I really liked the flavor--a tiny bit spicy with some pickled cabbage, the soup was flavorful but also refreshing. I didn't like the texture of the noodles, though; it was a tad too chewy for me. Also the meat-to-noodle ratio was a bit low... * pickled pork bellies in Chinese bread (梅干扣肉肉夾饃): first of all, the translation should be more like "steamed bun with braised pork belly and pickled cabbage"... This one was absolutely my favorite out of the four dishes we ordered. The bun was soft and fluffy, but not soggy at all! It's got a decent amount of filling and it tastes pretty authentic. Will definitely come back for it! # Service * It's okay over all, but some of the servers seemed quite clueless... # Vibes * They've got a well thought-out logo. The interiors are clean and modern looking with culturally fitting decorations. read more

Highlights-best scallion pancakes I've ever had. This place isn't that great, Service here wasn't great. Similar to the service you would get at a fast food restaurant. We were served water that tasted like tap water no ice included. So we were drinking room temp water that tasted nasty. The pan fried beef dumplings gave my a gross taste in my mouth while eating. My braised beef soup barely had beef .. I had to fish around for them and when I did find them it was covered in a ton of fat. Omg writing this review is just making me gag. But the scallion pancakes were so damn good. j won't be back though read more

Wow! Soup dumplings!!!! Yay!!!! Absolutey love soup dumplings, and Steamed does not disappoint in the latter. We try to make the trek to New Haven every weekend for lunch. We stopped here last weekend and were so delighted we came back this weekend. YUM! If you are a fan of dumplings and noodle soups, this is your place. So far we have ordered the pan fried dumplings, pork buns, beef brisket rice noodle soup and shredded chicken rice noodle soup. All outstanding. The pork bao was so-so, but other than that, we really enjoyed our meals. Fast and friendly service, and always busy, which I like to see. There is definitely a cool vibe about this place. Very authentic. We will be back to try more dishes. The sticky rice looked good...will order that next time!!! read more

Steamed is one of the few middle quality-tiered Chinese restaurants in New Haven, so I had to check it out. The location has switched owners in the last three years, but I hope this place is here to stay for a while. I'm a little mixed on my review of Steamed because of my stark dining differences. The first time that I went was with a group of friends during a weekend lunch, and they took our orders promptly and service was fast. My favorite dish was the braised beef noodle soup (the noodles are the yellow egg type) with beef, tendon, bamboo shoots, and bok choy. The har gow (shrimp dim sum) is absolutely massive but same quality as any dim sum establishment. My friends and I both agreed that the sour and spicy potato noodle soup is too sour for our liking, and nobody has been able to finish the broth for that dish. Xiaolongbao is also satisfying, and it's also worth it because you can't really find them anywhere else in New Haven. However, my second time on a weekday lunch was a disappointing because the interval my friend and I waited for our dishes to arrive took over five minutes, so my dish was lukewarm by the time both of us could eat. My second time trying the beef noodle soup was also lackluster. There was an over-abundance of noodles, which led to a meager soup-to-noodle ratio, and the rest of the side dishes that time were very few. I'm usually a fan of noodle soup dishes, but I ran out of broth and I couldn't finish the pile of noodles because it was too bland for me. I'd still like to come back to Steamed to try it again in the future, but my second experience has put a bit of a damper on my expectations. read more

Steamed - Scallion pancakes, pork soup buns, grilled pork buns - Dim Sum Near Me - New Haven, Connecticut

Just came for my first visit. I work down the street, and I've been watching with fascination as the transformation from the former restaurant took place. Truth be told, it still looks pretty much like the same old place, at least upstairs, but who am I to judge. I especially appreciated that when I walked in, there were about 4 to 1 Asian to Western customers there, so I knew it had a good shot of being at a bare minimum halfway decent. I ordered the Savory Chilled Cucumber ($6), Pickled Pork Bellies in Chinese Bread ($5 ea) and Scallion Pancakes ($6 ea). All were very tasty, though I would have expected way more scallions in a scallion pancake. There was the really just the suggestion of scallion, if not the actual presence of scallion, not like I have had in Queens and Flushing, NYC Chinese restaurants. Still, that won't keep me from coming back and trying the other dumplings and noodle soups. I saw a few people eating them, and the bowl looked like I could do laps in it. read more

I have been here 3 times and left disappointed every single time. The issue I have is that none of the food came out hot at all. Everything was just slightly warmed up; nothing was piping hot, not even the XLB. Sad that I won't be going back and will just have to go to Flushing on weekends to enjoy XLB. read more

Takeout review: chiller cucumbers was great (saved the save for the next day and put more pickles!) If you are Curious try the leeks dumplings, it's pretty good. It does have strong taste but highly recommend it. Beef dumplings were decent. Ordered the pan fried beef and soup dumplings: 3 1/2 star review because there was no soup in the soup dumplings, so disappointing!!!! Shredded chicken soup was ok-hardly had any broth since they didn't separate broth and noodles. I hate when restaurants do this! Lastly, don't forget to try their special fried rice-it's delicious, great flavor. read more

I was craving soup dumplings and I don't think I'll have to look elsewhere! The restaurant has two floors in which you can enter from either one. I entered through the downstairs door and I was seated right away. The menu has many options especially for dim sum; however, I really was just coming for the soup dumplings (xiao long bao). They were so tasty and juicy that I will definitely come again and try other things on the menu! read more

Don't be deceived by the positive reviews, this place is mediocre at most . I don't mean to trigger people but be weary of the super glowing reviews by those who are non Asian reviewers. As a Bonafide Asian I must say this place is mediocre and thus not Asian approved Most menu items are not available. And for those that are they are not worth the price . My wife and I ordered the the beef noodle soup and I the cold noodle with minced pork. For appetizers she ordered the pork belly bun and we shared the har gao (shrimp dumpling) . The food was mediocre at best . The worst was the shrimp dumplings. Clocking in $16 for 6 this was the biggest rip off . They were clearly frozen ones that you get at a Chinese grocery store . Terrible . The pork bun was just a very dry piece of pork with no pickled veggie (it says on the menu you get pickled veggies) . Bone dry and a bad value at $6 for 1 (for reference mecha noodle bar is 2 for $7). The beef noodles was astoundingly cheap at 2 microscopic pieces of beef . The cold noodle was ok , but with over 75% of the meal being a bad value I can't recommend . I wanted this to be so much more, but over all not worth the trip , and poor value proposition. read more

Had delivery from here and was a bit disappointed. Perhaps the dim sum didn't translate well in delivery, but I haven't had that issue with other places so tough to say. I found the dumplings to be just ok- nothing special, especially for a place that appears to specialize in them. The pork buns were quite dry and the filling was minimal and under-flavored in my opinion. The hot oil dumplings don't hold a candle to Mecha, which I find to still be the far better local option. Perhaps I caught them on an off night. I can't speak to the in-house experience. read more

I think this place has potential but it is not there yet. On the plus side, the menu options offered are authentic and a offer a good variety. I was excited to try the fried pork buns (Sheng Jian Bao) and the braised beef brisket noodle soup. I also gave the rice cakes with snow peas a try (on the menu, it's called 'sticky rice' but it's really rice cakes). Everything looked great. The issue was that it didn't taste nearly as good as the way they looked. First, the rice cakes were EXTREMELY salty, it was also garlicky which I like a lot but I could not get over the sodium level. The noodles came with some pieces of beef that were nice and tender, some Chinese leafy greens, and some bamboo shoots. The noodles itself was good. However, the broth was pretty bland. It tasted like water with some salt. Because the rice cakes were so salty, the noodles tasted not salty enough. Finally, the pork buns were somewhat disappointing. The bottom of the buns was nice and crispy as it should be. The bun itself was good. But the issue was that the filling lacked flavor. Also, when we went to take a bite, the filling just fell out like a dry meatball. So overall, I'm a bit disappointed as I expected more flavor in my food. But I was excited to taste authentic Chinese food in New Haven. I also thought that the prices were pretty good, the noodles and pork buns easily left both of us quite satisfied. read more

I went to this place with 5 people without reservation. It was Friday night but their food came out incredibly fast!! Food were so good and I still crave them. Wish that they get in UBER eats or Grubhub. I liked the sour & spicy potato noodles a lot. Pork ribs noodles and cold noodles were so good as well. Dimsums are just okay. Whenever I go there, they ran out of Shrimp dumplings (Har Gao), which is disappointing. However, I wanna visit here soon again. read more

We were looking forward to going back to this place on a Saturday night, the result was not as pretty as our 1st experience. The service was sub par because of a waitress being sick, we understand that and felt bad for the unique waiter (on a Saturday night!). However, we would have appreciated some kind of gesture for the wine glasses not being available (dishwasher currently running), half the food served cold, and an ordered item never delivered but charged on the bill. What worried us more was the inconsistent quality of what we ate: the braised beef soup offered a delicious broth but the beef was 95% fat, nothing to eat there. The soup dumplings, reheated, lost their attractiveness while the fried pork dumplings were above average. The scallions pancakes would have been great if not re-heated, making them too greasy for our taste. This place proved they can do so much better, one way would be a better management of the crew. They are super friendly, constantly running to save the day, but it was a desperate battle. read more
