My friend spoke highly of this place so when I went to visit we went to lunch here. It's mainly a take out kind of place, although they do have chairs. We walked in and since I can't eat meat, I asked for a simple broccoli with garlic sauce and white rice. My friend ordered orange chicken and pork fried rice. We sat and ate our meal. While I was half way through, I bit into chicken. I went and showed them I had not one but THREE pieces of chicken on my plate. The place is rather off putting. The plants are all overgrown and lacking care. They're not really much of decorations, but plants that someone thought would look nice and got forgotten about, except for the occasional watering every few months. Next the entry and counter area seem to be makeshift storage, flea market, and staging area for trash. Need to buy a cheap impractical appliance like an off brand food chopper? There it is, sitting on the floor by the drink fridge. It's been there for years with the marker written price on it. Interested in some moldy squash or some sort of pumpkin? Just head on over to the table next to the menus Pick the one you like. Looking for a unique meal? Their specials are written right by the counter on a piece of some sort of liquid soaked (I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say mop juice) cardboard that's been there for ages. It's probably been the special for years. Must be very special. Now the food is another story. It's edible. But not great. The chicken I got was soggy and drowning in sauce. So much so that all of my other food was covered in it. It's really not worth it anymore. The one by the police station used to be my spot for years, then they sold and everything changed. We've tried many Chinese Restaurants in the area and have been disappointed by most. We were happily surprised by Shing Jet and it is the closest restaurant to us. Everything we got was pretty good, some things better than others. The beef teriyaki was very good. The Lo Mein noodles had a good texture and flavor. The fried rice is very good with veggies and scrambled egg. We tried the General Tso's Chicken. The cooking method was good (good fry and quality chicken) but the sauce was way too sweet and thick. I ended up thinning it out the next day and added some chili garlic sauce and it was perfect. From the pupu, the fried chicken, shrimp, and spring roll were all good. Looking forward to trying the beef and broccoli and veggie based stirfry next time. read more

There are a couple choices in the valley for chinese food, however, Shing jet is still my go to. Their beef lo mein is always on point and made fresh. You can tell immediately when the noodles have been sitting out for a while as they get hard and stale. This has never been the case with Shing Jet. I also love their crab ragoons. They are always crispy and made fresh, again old ones are usually stale and gross. Their service is decent, nothing to write home about however transactions have always been quick and pleasant. The atmosphere leaves a little to desire however i never eat there so it doesnt phase me too much. Overall i am a returning customer to this joint and i will keep going! read more

I went here one day with a friends and the staff was very friendly and nice, also very patient with me (I'm a very indecisive person) but I'm glad I made the choice in getting a shrimp and broccoli combination... It was the best I had ever had. Just the right amount of sauce... Crisp broccoli, tender shrimp, and a side of THE BEST PORK FRIED RICE you will ever come across. The rice had literally all that I want in it, pork, bean sprouts, onion, scallions... I'm not big on peas and carrots in pork fried rice so I was happy to find out that this one didn't have that. The egg roll was great as well. My friend had ordered chicken wings that looked oh so scrumptious and he himself said that they were the best. Forget all these other reviews! Wife, son and I stopped by for lunch while traveling through the area. Son had shrimp lo mein, which he declared was good. He's an authority on the subject because that's what he always orders. I had shrimp with lobster sauce which was a little weird. The peas were fresh and the rice was fine but the sauce was gelatinous, didn't have much substance and was not very appetizing, and the 3 large shrimp were somehow tasteless, not bad, simply tasteless. Wife had beef with broccoli. Broccoli was fresh and tasted fine (I sampled some) but she said the beef was soft and didn't have the texture of meat (I didn't try it.) 30 minutes later she felt queasy. Out of all the chinese food shops in the area (comparatively few), this one is my favorite. They have excellent pork fried rice, among the best I've ever had. They use great quality chicken, and will use all-white meat when asked. There are a few items on their menu that I don't see anywhere else, such as chicken teriyaki with onions. They run a very clean and pleasant shop, with the kitchen in full-view of the customer. These people do business right, they have very fair prices, and excellent customer service. The ONLY place I will get authentic Chinese from in the Valley. There is another Chinese restaurant just down the road, but this place is terrific! I wish they delivered, but it's not a far drive. These restaurant is the biggest rip off for lunch. Make sure that you tell them you want the LUNCH special before 3pm because they assume you want only the full price items. I also tried to explain my position and want the difference but was told I need to bring back the food to have that happen and I am sure the Health Dept will enjoy that fact that half eaten food from takeout is being excepted back over the same counter they are serving food over.
