I messed up my last review. This wasn't the location it happened at. I have been here a few times and it's been great.

I am disappointed of seeing the low ratings for this Steak and Shake located near the mall in Sanford, Florida. My wife and I were at the deserted Sanford Mall yesterday (May 5) and saw the Steak and Shake which at the time around 3pm was empty with the exception of a pickup in the drive thru. We went inside a little suspicious but saw the place was clean and were greeted by an employee who offered to assist us to use the computer menu to order. We both ordered a cheeseburger and medium fries which was a $.30 upgrade. I also got a 1/2 cookie dough milkshake since it was Happy Hour (1/2 priced drinks and shakes mon-fri from 2-5). The milkshake came out first and it was great. The hamburgers and fries came out and we couldn't believe the amount of freshly made fries came with our meal. The cheeseburgers where some of the best we had for a fast food style restaurant. Great service, great food at a great price. How can anyone give less than 5 stars. read more

Stopped here with a friend in the afternoon for two shakes. There were about two other small parties inside, otherwise the place was dead. No one greeted us when we walked in. We used the kiosk to order, then waited over ten minutes for two shakes. As we waited, I noticed how dirty and unkempt the place was. The floors were filthy and stained. There were stains on the ceiling that trailed across the restaurant. Air conditioning vents were covered in dust and mold. Fingerprints and handprints covered the pickup area. Overall the atmosphere was not pleasant in the slightest. I ordered a Nutella shake and my friend ordered the Oreo shake. When we got them, my shake looked pretty sad. The pictures of the Nutella shake advertised Nutella drizzle on top. I attached a picture of what I got instead. Just a small drop. Absolutely pathetic. The shake itself tasted alright. My friend said her Oreo shake was pretty flavorless. I won't be returning to Steak 'n Shake. read more

IMMEDIATE Corporate oversight needed. I Love Steak n' Shake but this place sucks. There's a long time regular waitress who's just plain awful. The teen waitstaff are worse - expect all manner of mistakes. They're chronically out of to go large tea cups. While pulling up to the drive thru window yesterday, an off duty employee wedged himself between my car and the window to give the window clerk a few cigarettes for a couple of bucks. At first, I was sort of alarmed someone would walk up between my car and the drive through window. The window clerk apologized and I told him he could make up for it by discounting my shake. He did after yelling to his friend who was now across the parking lot that he had to pay for my shake. Unsafe and potentially litigious. Made me uncomfortable. And Very unprofessional. . read more

Goodness gracious is this location super slow at the drive thru. There were 2 cars in front of me and I lost track of my weight. Not to include the 3 cars that were behind me. It seems no matter where you go you can expect a slow Steak 'n Shake Drive thru experience. My food tasted alright. I decided to try the cookies n cream milkshake as well. It honestly wasn't that great and I started to wish I had gone with the strawberry banana one. The staff however was friendly despite the drive thru getting pretty backed up. read more

lol placed an order on the app 2 hours before close, money came out of my account, but they didn't get the order in store so they refused to make it. They said the order sometimes takes longer to go through even though the app said it was ready. Made me wait until close and told me they weren't allowed to make it and I had to come back the next day for a refund. Manager blamed me for placing the order too late. Waited 25 minutes for a waiter to take our order. People that came in after us were not only waited on before us but had finished their food and gone before ours reached our table. I don't know how can service be so bad here I give up waited 30 minutes for our food the floors and tables were very dirty. People who came in after us were served before us. Prices are very good but I guess you get what you paid for. We order our food and when the food came in our check came in with the food also, like why the rush. Never brought one the shakes that we asked for and my cousin had to call the waiter for some water refill and called her again for napkins because after leaving the food she never came back to the table. read more

This restaurant has gone down hill, this particular location is just bad. They had several dirty tables when we walked in, but they did clear them for the waiting patrons; however, I noticed one of the managers take a paper towel, wet it with plain water and wipe our table, not even attempting to use any sort of sanitizer. Luckily I had a purell wipe. There was food on the floor and the place appeared very dirty. Our food was subpar and to be honest, I was nervous to even eat my meal. Glad I prayed over my food before consuming it. We won't be returning. Our group of eleven dropped in this evening at their busy time and the manager did everything he could to accommodate us, moving table as they became available and getting us our drinks and milkshakes. Our waiter cheerfully took our orders, fixed problems with bills, and took some group photos for us. And the food and milkshakes were good. We all had a good time reminiscing with old friends and making new friends. All in all, we couldn't have asked for better service. I'm sure we were a little inconvenient for the staff but they never acted short with us or showed anything but smiles and a willingness to help. read more

Honestly if I could give 0 stars I definitely would!!! I have been a customer of this steak and shake for years, this place has slowly deteriorated over time and now the ship has finally sunk for me. I pulled up to the window to order my food and as I got to the window I forgot to get a shake for my son, so I asked the lady nicely if she could add one. Her response was "no we aren't allowed to do that because someone is behind you" (1 car who was still waiting to order threw the drive threw) so I payed and waited about 10 minutes if not more to get my food! In the mean time she gave me my receipt. So I decided to do the survey and claim my dissatisfaction for the new policy. After finally getting my food I went back around to order my sons milk shake and got greeted my a man who was wearing white (potential manager) he asked if my name was melody and I said yes that's me. Then he proceeded to ask me about my survey I had just taken, in the survey I said I was waiting 20 minutes but I meant to put ten! I was in a rush because I wanted to get the free coupon before getting to the window. So I apologized to the man and proceeded to ask him " your upset about this but at the same time I am to because your telling me you couldn't make a milk shake in the 10 minutes I was there? He said " no because they would have to scroll threw a bunch of orders" (there was one car behind me) then he continued to argue with me about the length of time I was there! I finally got fed up and said forget the milkshake so now my son didn't even get what he wanted either. Honestly I hope corporate sees this and he gets a replacement!!! DONT GO TO THIS LOCATION!!! I didn't dine in but went through the drive-thru. I ordered the double stack burger with bacon. Delicious, Steak n' Shake never fails. It's my favorite fast food burger joint. This location is next to the Sanford Mall across from the Ale House. The service at this location is slow and the tables are never clean when we come here. I'm in a family of five and we always have to wait to be seated because the staff is so busy. This is a holiday time and I see no extra staff on duty. The food is awful my wife's BLT was stale bread a thin as cheese 3/4 slice of tomato and a inch slice of bacon not two or three one bacon. My burger bun was stale and the fries cold and tasteless . I should have taken a hint when two separate customers verbally expressed there distaste of the food to the manager. Unfortunately the wait staff who were outstanding set of people and didn't do anything wrong gets the brunt of the complaints from the customers . Although I am aware the wait staff does not cook my food or give discounts for bad food bad cooks or an uncaring manager there stuck in the middle . Bottom line I don't recommend eating here.There are better places to eat at, that have better prices. read more

The only place my grandson wanted to go for his 8th Birthday was Steak 'n Shake by the mall. There were 15 of us. Seated as we arrived and was no problem. That was where it ended. The manager never came around to help the server, as there were maybe 2 and then a 3rd showed up. But, the place was dirty, no one made any effort to clean up the tables. The manager finally made it around. Half our food was cold, because she waited for everyone to get their food. They served my daughter her reuben on rye bread and didn't tell her they were out of sour dough bread. My husband ordered apple sauce, and they never said until the end they were out of apple sauce. My grandson and son in law ordered milk shakes to which they did not receive until meal was over. No one came back to fill up the drinks. It was a disaster from the very get go. I've visited a few times and things are always okay. Nothing extremely special, this location offers your typical fast food diner experience. I've had a few of the menu items including the shooters, hot dogs, cheeseburger, fries and cookies. All were pretty tasty, especially the hot dog and strawberry milkshake. You can dine in, take out or use the drive thru. The service is always fairly quick and pleasant. read more
