It has been a while since I have been to Steak 'n Shake. They have gotten rid of the weight staff so you enter your order in and all the fixings on a kiosk and then sit down. Wait for your name to be called and go pick up your food and then when you're done cleaning up your area. I did not see Coffee anymore on the menu or the spaghetti that they used to have. They also don't have any chicken sandwiches or the BLT they used to have as well. Menu is primarily steak, burgers, fries, and some sides. The food was delicious though although it feels like the nostalgia of the original steak 'n Shake style is gone. read more

Absolutely shameful service at this location. I came in and nobody even looked up. The location was slow and not one employee acknowledged us. We sat for some time before recognizing we had to process our own order at a kiosk. After we placed our order I watched an elderly veteran come in with a walker. He struggled through the front door with no help from an employee collecting trays from the trash can area. This man say for 14 minutes with nobody in that kitchen asking him if he needed help. The very same employee who was cleaning trays never offered assistance for this man. She simply opened the front door and helped him leave without once offering to help him place an order. He sadly said as he walked out " ALL I WANTED WAS A LITTLE CUSTOMER SERVICE". This location needs to do better !! read more

Had the double burger, onion rings and strawberry shake. Food was good. I especially enjoyed the onion rings Edith the ranch sauce I chose via the kiosk. The strawberry shake was very delicious... gave me a brain freeze... so you may want to drink it slowly. The restaurant is kiosk only. No employees to take an order. Make sure to take your receipt at the kiosk ... you need to scan a code to use the soda fountain. No free refills either. read more

I used to love Steak n Shake but I gave up on them 3-4 years ago. It just wasn't the same. I am not a fan of ordering from a kiosk but I also know how hard it is to find help. The kiosk makes it possible to keep the restaurant up and running. I saw a review on here about the Steak n Shake in Ormand Beach so I checked it out. It was seriously great, just like I remembered it to be!! Very clean, food was perfect and the staff was super friendly. The manager, Timothy, introduced himself and shook our hands. I like Steak & Shake I consider it the "In n Out" burger of the east - the thin pressed hamburger patties are cooked on the flat top to give them a little crunch on the outer edges, the buns are toasted and onions, lettuce, and tomatoes are fresh and I love the tangy pickles piled high so double up on those - with or without cheese make mine a triple steak burger all the way with a handful of those skinny little fries. The restaurant was somewhat in disarray during my visit but it was prime dinner service time and they were slammed, our server double checked to ensure our table was cleaned properly prior to seating us. The food came out within an acceptable time hot from the grill and fryer and delicious. It's a meal I enjoy a few times a month - there's no fast food burger that I know of that can compete, although I don't consider this fast food nor is it in the same category as the sit down sport bar themed burgers that are so inconsistent. Oh, Steak and Shake, what have you done?! Ormond Beach, FL. Ordering kiosks have replaced cashiers. No more order takers/servers. The drink machines will only work after the kiosk prints out QR codes. Apparently, the only human staff are the cooks. Shake machine was down both times for the night and waited forever in the drive thru for my order to be taken. Our burgers were ready within 5 minutes. I love the coolity of the meat. All the burgers come with fries. they had salsa on the side for me that I loved. Steak n' Shake needs a revamp on their service standards! December 30th, 2015 - Steak n' Shake Ormond Beach almost caused me to go postal. Yes they were busy, but I am starting to feel that too many managers/owners understaff their stores for the sake of saving money at the expense of customer service. It is a consistent problem at many Steak n' Shakes around the country any time of year or day. THE EXPERIENCE We weren't greeted when we came in, which was fine, but it seemed none of the staff noticed we were waiting to be seated. TWO servers walked by us to their tables and didn't acknowledge our existence. It would have been nice if someone said, we'll be right with you or something! Finally one server who was busy wiping down a table near us decides to look up from her task. She had a surprised look on her face as if we'd just materialized out of thin air from the Starship Enterprise or Millennium Falcon. "Are you waiting to be seated" she asked? After responding with an obvious yes, she took us to a booth to be seated. I thought it was a little too tight for the 5 of us, so we switched to another table. I should mention that she was not our server. Our server was taking forever to come to our table, so I got up and found menus near the front door. A kitchen staff member noticed and screamed to our server to get to his table, "customers are getting their own menus and that is not how we do it here!" (verbatim). This young kid comes over dazzled and confused, I believe it was his first week out of training and he was clearly overwhelmed. My heart softened (because at this point I was really getting annoyed), but it wouldn't be long before I was annoyed again. My wife takes an unusual amount of time to decide what she wants... even at places the menu hasn't changed in 50 years... like McDonald's. So I asked for more time and requested coloring sheets and crayons for the youngest. He says ok and takes off, but doesn't come back. So I got up and got the coloring sheets myself. There were no crayons, so I asked the cashier and she retrieved them for me. Later I came back to request the little cardboard Steak n' Shake cars you can fold and make yourself, but a manager informed me they were out and had been out for over a month. When our order finally arrives to our table (it took much longer than usual) the kid apologizes for being slow. I honestly felt sorry for him, because he seemed like he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown or psychotic episode. I asked him to keep the refills coming, which didn't happen and after waiting so long for the bill we just decided to go pay it. The cashier was missing, so one of the servers came up to ring us out. She noticed our the fiasco of our meal and discounted our bill without our saying a word about it. I really like Steak n' Shakes steakburgers! They aren't the world's best or anything, but they are decent and reliable road trip food that is friendly on the wallet. My wife always keeps their coupons in her purse, which keeps our total bill fairly low! Some days the burger is better and juicier than others, but overall I have no issues with the food here. My issue at their many locations is almost always with service. FINAL THOUGHTS I'm telling you, our trip to Florida was something out of a twilight zone episode. We had multiple issues at multiple restaurants and that NEVER happens to us. It seemed that my patience was being divinely tested and I ALMOST failed on this last leg of our two week trip. I was so close to going off I could taste the angry words coming up through my throat. It takes a lot to get me upset, but I'd had about enough unsatisfactory service on this trip for a lifetime and my complimentary tongue was about to turn razor sharp.
