Typically, I'm someone who automatically goes for their famous chicken and waffles, but this time around I wanted to switch things up and try something completely different. I opted for the Meat Lovers Scramble Bowl, and made a quick substitution: I swapped out the standard hollandaise sauce for their sausage gravy. It was the absolute right move! The bowl was packed with so much incredible flavor and was super filling. Since I was dining alone, I grabbed a seat at the bar. The staff here was incredibly nice and attentive--more than one person stopped by throughout my meal just to ensure I was taken care of and didn't need a single thing. She initially tried to seat us at a table meant for two, even though there were tighter booths available for four. It took about 10 minutes before she finally seated us in a clear booth. I can see why Metro Diner is so popular. I like the casual atmosphere, the no-nonsense waitstaff. Upon entering, they just asked us to pick whatever table we wanted... like that. The menu is straight forward American diner, breakfast focused. Pancakes and Eggs were ok... the Waffles a bit better, not memorable. Nice diner ambiance, great coffee and service. The homemade corned beef hash was superb, as were the biscuits and gravy. But the pancake was so rubbery that you couldn't cut it with the regular knife and the "buttered" toast tasted like it had been soaked in oil. We came as a large group and the restaurant was very accommodating. We tried several of the seasonal items, and they all surpassed expectations. Everything was really delicious, truly. BUT it happened again and we just talked about it 10 months ago I was told by the kitchen manager that the chicken is ALWAYS COOKED FRESH so my girl and I came in around 6:00pm to eat dinner we always sit at the bar to watch the cooks. And I ordered the chicken and waffles. And I know it takes about 17min to cook it FRESH and our order was out in less than 10 min ..... come on guys the chicken was warm and DRY the waffles were COLD I mean hell the syrup was warmer . All I ask is PLEASE cook my chicken fresh when I come in ..not recooked or in the fryer basket thinking is warm and going to be ok to serve . read more

On the main drag of ISB this place seems like it might be touristy but has some of the best food in Daytona Beach. Have been there many times over the past 5 years and have yet to had a bad meal or bad service. This place is A+. read more

We really liked this place. We wanted something near our hotel and fairly simple. Their menu is very extensive so almost anybody should be able to find something pleasing. I believe they had beer and wine, I don't know about mixed drinks, but for a diner that's pretty good. I would gladly eat here more often if we were in the area. read more

Just finished the Turkey Dinner for 4 take-out meal for our Thanksgiving dinner. Totally wonderful! Got the box home, heated the containers for 35 minutes and everything was just as great as the turkey dinner served on site. No muss No fuss. And lots of leftovers for a second meal. Will order again for Christmas Day. Highly recommended for those of us who just don't want to cook everything from scratch because of cooking for toooooo many years! read more

The last time I tried metro diner was 10 years in Gainesville, FL so we decided to give it a shot again for brunch! They don't take reservations, so if you have a large party, be prepared to wait anywhere from 40mins to an hour. We had a party of 14 people and it took us about 50 mins to get a table. All of us ordered a variety of things but I got the huevos rancheros which was on a bed of tortilla chips covered with eggs, avacados, jalapeños, salsa, cheese, corn, beans, sausage, bacon, and other yummy things!! The food was delicious! It was basically a tex mex breakfast, which I'm obsessed with! The quantity was plenty for 1 person but 2 people could even share depending on how hungry you guys are feeling! This was my first Dinner visit to the Metro Diner, and my husband's first visit ever. It was a random cold day, and the first thing I saw on the menu was the Chicken Pot Pie. It was the perfect meal for a cold evening. My husband had the Fish Fry Friday. The meal also comes with coleslaw, but he was able to sub extra fries. It also came with chicken noodle soup. Prices are affordable, especially considering the size of the servings. The service friendly and timely and the food came out quickly. The diner has a great nostalgic but still modern look. I wasn't sure what to expect on a Friday night, but we were seated right away, but the restaurant was still full. Service was super. Size of the meals was large. I had the chicken fried steak and when the waitress wanted to pack up what I did not finish, I told her that the meat was a bit tough and I had a problem chewing and digesting but I ate the ends The mash potato are just like I make at home and the star of the meal was my string beans. I could have had a plate of just those. My husband had a bowl meal and he enjoyed it except that the rice needed to be salted when made. My husband had the chicken soup and I tried it. Great taste and lots of filling. When the bill came the wait told me they took my meal off the bill. I did not think that was necessary but she said that everyone there wants to make sure you have a great meal and said I should have asked for something else. My wife and I were looking for a quick bite to eat before heading home from a fun day out in Daytona Beach. We originally planned to have dinner somewhere by the Pier; however, traffic was on the rough side, so we decided it would be best to get something on the way home. Heading West on International Speedway Blvd. we spotted Metro Diner just in front of the Volusia Mall. We had never been here before, so we figured we should give them a chance. Upon entering, we were quickly-greeted, then seated by the hostess. The hostess gave us a rundown of their food and drink specials. Shortly after, our server Cassandra arrived to take our drink and food orders. I was impressed with the efficiency and friendliness of the staff. We ordered the onion ring appetizer served with ranch dressing ($6.49) and the Bavarian Chocolate Coffee ($2.59). The O-rings we perfectly crisp, and there was plenty for the two of us to share. The coffee was so delicious that I must have asked for four refills. When we were down to about four O-rings remaining, our entrees arrived. My wife ordered the Roasted Turkey Plate ($12.99), and I ordered the Beef Tips ($13.49). I was happy with the Beef Tips; however, I would have liked to see more beef included for the overall price. The mashed potatoes were freshly mashed red bliss. Instead of receiving French-style green beans, they provided freshly cooked broccoli. I love broccoli, so no complaints here. My wife's meal was a different story. The green beans and mashed potatoes were the best part of the meal. The turkey was ok but salty, the stuffing had a weird granular texture like it was made from a powder, and the gravy was way too peppery. Our bill came to $37.87 minus tip. Although the food was hit and miss, I could see myself returning here again to re-experience the friendliness of the staff, laid-back ambiance, and comfort food.
