You know for a few years in the 2010s, steak n shake quality declined, but over past 2 years they have really stepped up their game. Just got a burger which was not tiny, very well cooked and seasoned. Bun was uktra fresh. Fries were hit, crispy, and salted. Plus the old fashioned cherry coke is a classic always. Plus price was very reasonable. read more

We had never eaten at a Steak & Shake and now I can say we probably will never go back. I should have taken the sign that no one was at the restaurant. But, my husband wanted to try it out. Nothing that we had was good. He ordered garlic burgers and onion rings. He ate a few bites of everything and couldn't stand them. My burger was ok and my Oreo shake was ok. Nothing special! So advice is to go somewhere else for your burgers and shakes! read more

I selected this Steak & Shake so we could have lunch near the center of the Total Eclipse and timed it so we could watch the Eclipse right after we ate! The plan worked exactly as planned! I had purchased a Groupon for Steak & Shake a $20 value for $10 that we were able to use as well. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the parking lot as well as the restaurant were not too crowded; we had stop and go traffic most of the last 30 miles to get there because of all of the interest in the Eclipse and I wasn't sure what to expect. We entered and were seated immediately. Steak & Shake is not known for health food but my wife decided to order a Grilled Chicken Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing that turned out to be very good. I stayed traditional and ordered a Double Avocado Burger that came with Thin Crispy Fries that was quite satisfying. Service was also attentive and efficient as well as friendly and helpful in answering questions we had about the menu. We also had Iced Tea and Diet Coke with our meal and then a Strawberry Shake to go for watching the Eclipse from the parking lot. I love when a plan comes together! read more

This is my last visit at Steak and Shack. Food was good, service good. Having to scan my ticket before I get my drink I paid for STINKS. So happens my ticket didn't have a code. Had to ask a an employee for help No wonder their sales are down treating people like criminals. read more

I've loved Steak 'n Shake since I was a kid. This location reminded me of a prison movie - as soon as we walked in the door a gruff voice told us "you have to order at the kiosk". I dont think we have to take orders from anyone, but entered our order anyway. Floor was dirty, no one in dining room and most of the lights were off, so we ate outside in the car. The food was ok, and no complaints beyond these. Unfriendly, rude, unkempt restaurant. No wonder there were no other diners at the noon hour. That should've sent us somewhere down the road immediately. read more

This used to be really good . Now it's very nasty looking , check out grill area , the place needs to be tore down and start over . No I don't recommend it read more

Standard Steak 'n Shake experience. I got the Frisco Melt. Whoever made it put American Cheese on it. That made it 90% less enjoyable. I got seasoning on my fries. Some fries had a lot of seasoning and others hardly had any. The server was great. She was very friendly and attentive. I think her name was Brianna. This ties in to the last issue I had. I went to the register to pay. Some older lady was running the register. I swipe my card. I assume the the screen would offer me an option to enter a tip. Nope. I thought maybe I could write in a tip on the receipt. Nope. I said something to the lady. She said that it had to be entered before paying. Instead of admitting she didn't ask if I'd like to include a tip....she tried to word it as if it was my fault! Luckily, wife happen to have cash in the car. I went out to get it and bring it back. Way to screw over a coworker by not bothering to ask. read more

I haven't been in here for over 2 years and left in a huff the last time because after 30 minutes we hadn't had anyone come by to take our requests or even give us a glass of water. I'm giving them a shot today because my grandniece loves Steak & Shake. 3 minutes to get seated is reasonable, they're busy (not so on my last visit). 5 more minutes for someone to take out requests, okay, they're busy. 5 minutes later our water arrived. At 35 minutes in the door we get our food, tasty, but only warm, no milkshakes yet. 47 minutes our milkshakes arrive after seeing them come out the window 5 minutes ago. The staff is friendly and courteous even though the service over is horrible ! If I could give this store negative stars I would. My best suggestion , don't patronize this place unless you want to spend all day for a warm burger and melting milkshake. read more

Traveling to MN from TN and had a craving for a shake. Decided to get the number 10 with cheese to split between me and my husband. Made it a meal plus requested the free fries. Got our order, both orders of fries were stone cold. Triple cheeseburger was missing the cheese and our peanut butter cup shake ONLY had crumbled pieces of candy on the whipped cream....the rest of the shake was plain vanilla with nothing mixed in. Stay away unless you want to be disappointed! So upset right now read more

Have been a Steak n Shake fan for years! This one was OKAY --- didn't realize I needed to order the UPGRADED strawberry shake to have REAL strawberries in the shake... just ordered the traditional shake and it was tasty but nothing special from McDonald's... next time will either order the SPECIALTY strawberry shake or make my own at home... Guess the stock price is causing this once simple and quality establishment to act like a publicly traded stock/restaurant... OH, it is!! Sorry, was thinking we were back in the days before we had 101 shake flavors including your favorite kids cereal... Not the Stake and Shake it was before Mr. B. took over --- so... average at best. Took a LOOOONG time time get our shakes... Miss the authentic Stake N Shake days before they were before the market took control... nah, not coming back... Sorry --- miss the quality... read more

Did not even warrant one star. From the moment we entered it was horrible. The cook was yelling obscenities at the grill at other staff the place was dirty, they had one waitress there who was in my opinion too old to be handling this much of a crowd. Food was slow and when it did come some was either missing or not done properly. And not once did we see a manager in this place to stop the cursing from the staff. I had kids with me and did not want them to hear all that. I wont ever return to this place again unless they get better service and managers at this store. I am calling the corporate offices as well to notify them of the unclean and unprofessional working and dining environment. I am a chef and feel confident posting this review as I would never have this kind of service going on in my restaurant. read more

The first time I have eaten at this steak n shake since 12/20. I have got to say the atmosphere has changed. They no longer have server's just a self service kiosk. Employees were friendly and the triple burger and fries were to die for. With COVID we lost so much, our poor restaurant's and employees have been replaced by machines. I felt compelled to leave a tip. They deserve at least this much. Keep up the awesome work. It is not going unnoticed. read more

On my trip to the midwest, trying Shake n Shake was top on my list. Only cus Marc Summers claims it "best burger" he's ever eaten, in an episode of "best thing i've ever eaten" on food network. So my perception of this place was wrong, I thought it more like Red Robin, or Applebees, but actually its part restaurant/ diner (ala johnny rockets), and part drive thru. Naturally, prices are cheaper than Red robin, or applebees, and that's fine with me. It was packed on a Tuesday night, so it says something right? I tried the wisconsin butter melt- this butter-soaked buns, topped with carmelized grilled onions, double patties, cheddar (what else), all to make sure you clog your arteries and get fat, like those wisconsin residents. LOL. The buns could not have used the butter, and the burger would have been awesome. instead, it felt too greasy and soggy. Patties are thin, not my favourite (i love thick patties, having been spoilt by Father's Office's "best burger ever", Islands, and The Counter;s burgers, in CA), Also, i keep comparing Steak'n shake to In -n-Out. For variety, Steak wins. Freshness, value and flavor, slight bias for In-N-Out. But they are pretty close. And any place than can fill the in n out burger void in me, I likey. I also tried their fries- Shoestring style, their Onion Rings, Both good, But here is where my solid 4 stars gets cemented: Their shakes! I tried the cookies n Cream, and Double fudge chocolate. I LOVE chocolate, so i LOVEEEEEE their Double fudge. This shake should be illegal. read more

I have no complaint about my service or meal. Just an FYI. I asked about the $4.00 menu and was told they weren't doing that now. I heard another waitress say the same thing. However when I went to my car I noticed their billboard is still showing the $4.00 price promotion. read more

I'm only choosing one star because zero stars isn't an option. Don't ever go here. They should shut the doors. Steak and Shake has clearly given up the fight to Sonic, Freddy's, and Five Guys. read more

Steak ’n Shake - So this is the single steak burger with cheese. As you can see, the quality is slightly better than that of a TV dinner. Shut the doors. - Burgers Near Me - Marion, Illinois

We don't frequent Steak n Shakes but after 5 hours in the car we wanted that sit down / fast food mix. The Steak n Shakes in the Chicago are are very slow to respond...getting a table getting service, getting food. Not this one!!! I walked in, the waitress seated me right away, asked if I wanted something to drink while I waited for the rest of my party which was walking in the door which then she got all of our drinks. In only a few minutes, we got our drinks and Latricia was taking our order. Very friendly service. We were only waiting about 10 + minutes then the food came with a drink refil. Normally at a Steak n Shake you'll wait 20 - 30 minutes, which is why we don't frequent. Awesome service for this place. We thank the staff for their fast service and Latricia for the hospitality. read more

Fries that were so undercooked they were still raw, all food establishments in marion continue to disappoint

The lady waiting on us is really nice but everything else is horrible. 15 minute to be seated and the guy with the tie( i really hope he's not the manager ) just ignored us. It's been almost 30 minutes now and no food. Having an open kitchen you can watch the circus and it's not amusing. A district manager needs to get in here quick. Food finally came and one sandwich was inedible one was wrong and one was good. One order of fries was good the other two were soggy greasy and cold. The chili has more beans now, like they are "filling" but it tastes like I remember The shake was good but overall I would recommend skipping this particular S&S read more

FIRST OFF, they forgot a drink when we went through drive thru. Then when we got home, we went to eat and the sandwiches were really greasy and soggy and the fries were dry. Also when we went to call about the missing drink they told us to go thru the drive thru and immediately hung up on us. read more

The Steak 'n Shake in Marion IL has had poor service the last two times my husband and I have been there. The first time we didn't receive napkins/silverware and one of our side orders. We decided to give it a second try, well the service was worse! No silverware or napkins, I had to go wait at the counter to get them, my husband ordered a milkshake and he never did get it until we asked for it when we paid. Excuse each time 'We are short staffed' which really isn't my problem, lots of people looking for work, Hire more staff!!! read more

Personally, I love Steak n Shake. However, you have made my life miserable: 1. My husband loved the chicken melt and now it's gone. 2. He's been complaining about it all night that he is now boycotting Steak n Shake bc you no longer have his sandwiches. 3. He would not choose another sandwich tonight. 4. He will not bring me to eat there again. 5. I already miss your milkshakes. Please bring back his sandwich. Thank you, Annoyed Wife read more

Went in there with a lot of people, as we were on a trip to Florida and our four buses stopped by the restaurant area. So I'll give them a little slack for it being busy. some of the wait staff looked less than pleased, and I understand that they were stressed. BUT i felt like they could've been a little nicer and make customer service a priority. When we ordered, many people in my group (about 6 people at the table) just ordered milkshakes or milkshakes and a burger. We told them up front that we were in a rush, and would like our orders out in about 40 minutes, which they were happy to oblige. But, it was 5 minutes until we had to leave and my swirl milkshake, as well as everyone else's order had not been delivered. We ultimately had to go to the front counter and ask for our milkshakes and to pay. Not the best experience read more

Have been a Steak n Shake fan for years. This place is pretty bad. Worst order of onion rings I've ever seen, bottom of the bag? Swept off the floor? Bun stale. Floor dirty. Hostess who seated us, sign said "Wait to be seated" seemed put out that she had to walk over. I'm done here. read more

The service was terrible. We waited over half an hour for our salads and our waitress never checked back with us to make sure everything was ok or to provide us with drink refills. In all fairness she was one of the only employees actually working. After our meal, we waited an additional 7 minutes at the register for someone to cash us out. The employees gave the impression that they just didn't care. I was quite disappointed in the service. My salad itself wasn't bad but definitely nothing spectacular. read more

I've never had such bad service. Extremely rude people, had to wait over 10 minutes for food and it was all shoved in one small bag. Came home to eat, and the order was wrong. Won't be going back. read more

Another great visit! My server Dana rocks. Food was fast hot and accurate. This store is rocking tonight.

If I had a nickel fro every time I have eaten steak and shake I could by a house. If I had a nickel for every time I've went at 4am after staggering out of bar I could buy a mansion. I know that doesn't make sense but you get the point, This place is awesome. I love the shoe string style french fries, the oh so tasty burgers and the milk shakes are to die for. It can get pretty interesting on a Friday or Saturday night also. I highly recommend it. read more

So many great burgers, plus now they have similar choices as hot dogs. Great place if you like either.

Just like the other Steak'n Shakes I've been to, which is a good thing. Good burgers, shakes, and open at 0300, which helped when I needed to pick up coffee before heading to my St Louis flight early last Sunday morning. Not good at all....We waited 15+ minutes to be waited on. Then it took 45 minutes for us to recieve our food after stopping a waitress and asking where our food was. Noboby stopped at our table before we asked about our meal which was cold when it arrived at our table. We have been to this restaurant twice now and have had the same experince both times. We will NOT be back to this restaurant again. read more

Have breakfast here most weeks with my grandma. The scrambled eggs are more like an omelet, as they're scrambled in a bowl but untouched on griddle, so they're whole. Bacon is usually crispy. Biscuits are good and gravy was good but lately tastes like a mix. Hash browns are good--true diner hash browns. Pancakes are also good. Burgers are tasty but greasy. Fries are very good when hot but very thin so they cool quickly. Shakes are great! read more

This doesn't even deserves a star, I was here Sunday night arrived around 11:10 there was a total of 8 people dining there(4 different groups of 2) all(White) had their food or finished and conversating with each other when I arrived I stood at the waiting line for well over 10 mins when it was slow the waitress by the name of "Breanna H." who saw me walk in and didn't even greet me eventually approached me and asked if I wanted to sit in a booth, I told her that was fine so she brought me to a booth that was secluded away from the other customers, I then saw two more people walking in a younger white couple, who didn't wait long as Breanna was the one to approach them and quickly greeted them and actually sat them in a booth closer to the rest of the customers, I was the only black male there and I was still very respectful regardless of the terrible service I received, at the end as I was trying to pay for my meal I believe a supervisor was trying to ask me how was the service, I just shook my head and told her I wasn't pleased so she put me on the spot where everyone could hear and I didn't feel comfortable discussing my experience so she asked a fellow worker of hers a gentleman and told him I wasn't satisfied with my experience, at that point I told them I just want to pay for my food so I can go and asked for my receipt back so I can remember the name of the waitress, I pay very close attention to detail and I would not recommend going here especially if you are a person of color, not making it about race but take it for what it is and this was my experience. read more
