Grilled cheese bacon cheeseburger w/onion rings

Just wow! What a great little hidden gem! Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. I had the grilled cheese bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. It was delicious! My husband had the ham & beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and coleslaw. It was all amazing! The best coleslaw ever! The waitress was so sweet! Definitely recommend!!

This is a quintessential Southern Illinois restaurant. Good food, very friendly, good service and very interesting and eclectic interior. They serve breakfast all day, have specials everyday and everything tastes homemade. I highly recommend the patty melt!

Great chicken fried steak. Great little hole in the wall for awesome comfort food. Can't wait to get back there.

One of those places where the reviews had my mouth a'waterin' before I even walked in. The decor is wonderful. Run out of room on them walls, put stuff on the ceiling! Very cute and interesting. The food? Okay. Not above and beyond, any of it. Hubby had a BBQ pork sandwich which was good. He ordered the slaw, and when I heard it was vinegar, not mayo based, I was excited. But they put too much sugar in it for my taste. Overpowered the vinegar. I had a salmon patty that was nothing to write home about. I ordered the Amish salad for my side, which was so sweet, I felt like I'd ordered a dessert. I was definitely not as impressed as I thought I would be.

Small restaurant if you don't pay attention you will drive passed it. The parking is in the back, entrance as well. We came on a Sunday and it closes at 2PM. The waitress was friendly. Large choice on Menu and a family style if you wish all you can eat. We ordered from the menu burger and Philly cheese steak. The food was fresh and hot. Service was fast. We arrived just after the big rush on a Sunday 1PM. I had finished eating by 1:30PM Philly Steak , 1/3lb burger. Onion rings, fries and two drinks. $21.00 Oh and banjo music playing. Worth the stop if you can.

Doesnt look like much from the outside... kind of just looks like a house. Don't let that fool you! The service is great and the servers are really welcoming. We were in town for the eclipse and didn't know where to go. They had a big sign outside welcoming "city folks" that I thought was a great idea. We totally would have kept going and missed out. Breakfast was fast, cheap, and delicious. Actually felt like I was eating at a friend's house. It consists of the normal fare.. nothing over the top, but just down home goodness. One of the workers talked with us for some time. Everyone was really friendly. Give this place a try.

Excellent food and pleasant staff. I love the way that the restaurant is decorated with old time memorabilia. Our family tried the breakfast and we loved it. There are lots of different things to choose from including country ham, fried taters, eggs, bacon, omletts, and much more to choose from. We look forward to trying the other down home items on the menu on our next visit . One more comment, the restrooms are sparkling clean and anyone is welcome to use them. #rootbeerstation. Keep up the good work Dinner Bell Too

    Yummy cheesesteak!

Just passing through headed to the wine trail and found this gem. It doesn't look like much and it's easy to miss but the food was great. It was lunch time so we had sandwiches. We had Philly cheesesteak and a cheese burger. Both were fresh and served just right! The special was all you can eat fried chicken and dumplings with all the fixings. The table beside us order it and it looked awesome! Too much before the wine trail though

The best fried chicken dinner around. Seasoned just right. Eclectic decor. Closes at 2pm.

Just not a fan. Food was bland and not cooked well... the restaurant was messy and felt sticky... only been once so could've been the day ‍

The waitresses were very friendly and great at their job. The menu was quite extensive. Our food came pretty quickly. My husband got the haystack and he enjoyed it and took half of it home because it was so large. I got one biscuit and gravy with scrambled eggs of top. Biscuits were fluffy and sausage gravy was so good and just the way I like it. My husband said the coffee was very good. I had unsweet iced tea and it was good as well. Don't forget to ask for a senior discount if you are a senior. The ticket was less than what we usually eat for at Cracker Barrel. We will definitely come back when camping here again! Next time though I'm going to try their pies!

Spacious interior, and I think one of the best features is the wide aisles between tables. Very comfortable for customers using a walker or wheelchair. Just a nice accommodation for diners. Wonderful service, even on a busy holiday. Struggling to keep up with a busy lunch rush, but they were holding it together quite well. Clean restrooms. Had the meatloaf special. Not fresh made meatloaf. This was more of a minced, spam-ish beef product with can gravy. Didn't taste like home, sadly. However, veggies were fine as were the fries. And for the price, overall a good value. This is a fine diner. I'd recommend sticking close to the short order classics.

I think only 1 other person came in during my 45 mins there which made me a little nervous. The place is what one expects from a BBQ place, kind of shabby-chic. Fun decor, old building and a courtyard with picnic tables. I sat at the bar that was largely stocked and had 5 beers on tap. I got a local Vienna Lager from Scotch Brewing and a blonde ale from another local brewery. Both solid. Bartender was really friendly and told me a lot about the local beer and music scene. Anyway, I ordered the wings, bbq beans and banana pudding. The wings were coated in a sweet bbq sauce that was delicious. The wings weren't as crisp as I would like but still good. The beans were solid but not really memorable. The banana pudding was really good. Too many places now make banana pudding with like 75 percent whipped cream. This was like 90 percent banana and banana pudding. Perfect. Cool people, cool atmosphere, and good food.
