It took us about ten minutes to find parking. Not a lot to find. We walked in and checked in. It's mostly reservation only and the bar is included in that rotation. They told us it be about a 30 min wait. We only waited about 10 min before we were seated because a reservation didn't show up. Josie was our server she was so friendly. We ordered an appetizer it was delicious it was a beef cup essentially I'll attach a photo but their menu does change! The house salad was scrumptious. We ordered pork chops and salmon. Everything was so good. They also have brunch. The atmosphere was amazing and calm. Highly recommend read more

We had the ceviche recently and it was delicious as always. It is one of my favorite seafood specials that they offer especially during warmer months. The tostones rellenos are alsp one of my favorite apps. They always have several great beers on tao and this visit was no different. The music choices are also always superb. Service is amongst the best in the area. Could not recommend a restaurant more. read more

Best restaurant in Carbondale! Eat/drink here only if you: Love food made with a creative spirit and attention to detail Prefer fresh and local to canned and trucked Think cocktails should be made thoughtfully by hand Appreciate new beer flavors read more

Service and food were great. If you are looking for a nice night out, this is the place to go, parking could be better though.

We sat at the bar on a busy Friday. Fun vibe and variety of menu choices. Had the steak and frites which was delicious. Had to ask about gluten free options, but servers were quick to ask chef. read more

Excellent food, atmosphere, and service. The food had excellent presentation and tasted awesome. The portions were large for the price. Great place! read more

Great service super good food local fair a real gem. I totally enjoy it. I typically order carry out, but it is very quaint downstairs and very nice read more

It must have been a busy Sunday because by the time we arrived the staff was in low gear Food was a touch better than McDonald's and the service was not what I suspect the owners would expect We are weekend quests so there is no likelihood we'll be back read more

Great gem in a college town I was passing through. Solid draft list with some unique beers, including a triple hazy IPA that's my new favorite. Had the pork belly Reuben at the recommendation of the bartender and she was not wrong. WOW. I will go back just for that sandwich! read more

The food is delicious. They have one of the best filets in Carbondale! And, a good beer selection. They offer great special dishes. read more

Incredible meal... we had a lovely time here a couple nights ago! Everything was out of this world. Service was awesome and informative Brian gave great recommendations. And the vibes were great! Great assortment of wines, cocktails and craft beers read more

Local gem. Great food and "underground" atmosphere. They have a good list of drinks.

The brunch was delicious! We enjoyed it but I do think a mimosa special would be lovely.

Although, the food was great and the kitchen staff were very kind! My experience here was absolutely unpleasant. The server if I'm not mistaken Brian was very passive aggressive. I ordered Poutine fries and unknown to me there was pork on them, which I'm an allergic to. I let that be known to the server and he rudely told me there was nothing he could do and to pick it off. In this moment I felt so belittled. It wasn't till after I let it be known I was allergic, he replaced them. The whole interaction was dis tasteful, from the moment he sat us down he was very hostile. read more

What a unique and amazing experience. Loved the atmosphere and the service was exceptional. The food was unique but so delicious. Everything was well cooked and well prepared. We started the meal with the kalbi bossam and chicarrones. I highly recommend both dishes. Of note - the kalbi bossam couldve been an entree versus an appetizer. It was super filling! but a great dish to be shared. We had the Ban Bo hue, Thee PBR pork belly rueben and the pork chops. Our favorite was the pork chops - so tender and well cooked. The veggies that were served with the dish were also delicious. Next Id recommend the Ban Bo Hue served with consomme - what a unique but delicious sandwich! Make sure to dip your sandwich into the sauce. We even ate left overs the next day and it was just as good. By the end of our meal we had no room left for dessert. All the dishes were huge portions and very filling. For Cocktails - you really cant go wrong. We tried the Old fashioned, insomniac, cucumber martini and dani and the giant peach. All of them were fantastic. This is definitely a restaurant I'd return to for drinks and for the food. read more

Best food and craft beer in the area. Pulled pork Reuben was fantastic. Great atmosphere too.

Great food and service. During a time of covid, we decided to grab dinner. I liked how tent was socially distanced. It was a comfortable setting. However, be mindful of the rocky pavement when electing to be seated outdoors. The service was swift. We made same day reservations and waited no more than 10 minutes. Underground Burger: I ordered a medium well burger and it was extremely juicy and enjoyable. It was full of flavor. I have no complaints. The fries were good. I did upgrade them though. They had drink specials. I enjoyed the Moscow mule. It was refreshing and made well. I would recommend this establishment. Parking is a bit of a hassle but overall a solid place for food. read more

You need reservations, unless you sit at the bar (if there's space). We were recommended this place by a young gentleman we met at Bald Knob across. He wasn't wrong when he said it was upscale bar food. Most of it is in house made, and you can taste the love of the chefs! Phenomenal! I had the Cobb salad, and it was far superior than just a salad. My boyfriends Ruben was next level!!! We shared the fries as an appetizer. Hand cut super crunchy, perfectly seasoned. Get them, or the scotch eggs. You won't be disappointed. The restaurant really is underground, in the basement. Wonderful feel with the cozy ambiance I will definitely choose this place again when in the area. read more

Great food and drinks. It was recommended to us. We got carry out and drinks while we waiting. Great service.

Made it back this week, and it was just as good as the first time. Incredible flavor on the Nashville Hot Chicken. Between the food, drinks, and ambiance, this is my favorite restaurant in southern Illinois. read more

Fun underground street location connected to a coffee shop. Unique beer list, the Founder's Highball - be careful, it's pretty smooth & strong. Full menu, I did not eat there, but would. The place is cool and relaxed. The bartender is knowledgeable and has personality. A fun place to stop for a drink and a bite. read more

I came with a friend on a Wednesday evening. Had an old fashioned cocktail and the bistec sandwich & fries. Food, drink, & service were all very good. They gave a good craft beer menu as well. I would recommend! Location is a bit awkward. read more

Service spotty for a Wednesday night. Waiter disappeared multiple times for it being somewhat slow. Salad, burger and Scotch egg excellent. Pork chop bland. Drinks very good. Marginally disappointed for the expense. read more

Only 2 vegetarian entrees and they were both terrible. Is it too much to ask that southern Illinois restaurants put at least a veggie burger on their menu? Fries were mediocre, I wanted the pretzel but they were out of them, service was ok, but the only reason to go here is their beer selection. I might go back to drink but not to eat dinner. read more

Small town gourmet food. They like to offer unique offerings. It's nice to have quality food in Southern Illinois. Not really kid friendly. Cocktails are good and offer different types of craft beer. This last time we had the sea food special. Was a little different from traditional style, had a Mexican kind of flavoring with habanero. Was so good! Well cooked and good flavor. Great staff too. We love to sit at the bar and chat with new people. read more

Can I start out by saying, HOLY WOW! My boyfriend and I are from St. Louis, and we were both blown away by the food here! The Scotch Eggs were worth an entire meal, but we also ordered the mushroom gnocchi (amazing and filling) and pork belly Reuben (holy smokes! Fabulous tasting BBQ ). We literally the entire meal, as we were SHOCKED at how amazing the food was. Service was also amazing (Josie was a warrior and queen). And the cocktails were so delish! 10/10 recommend. read more

Wow! Such a great dining experience. We made reservations for 8pm yesterday evening, and I'm glad we called early or we may not have gotten in. I ordered the market mojito (very good!) also got the scotch eggs for an app. They were a 10/10, highly recommended. My date ordered the steak frites and he loved! I ordered the PBR (pork belly Rueben) and it was not what I was expecting. Not a traditional Rueben taste at all, there was so much meat I could barely finish 1/2. It was different but not in a bad way. But not sure i'd order this again. Our server was great, food came out quick, and the drinks kept going down smooth. Would definitely return! read more

The finest kitchen, most interesting menu, and best staff of any restaurant in the area code.

Our youngest is a freshman at SIU so looked for a decent place to eat & have a cocktail while in for a visit. Walking in and seeing the Untappd screens was a definite plus for my craft beer loving husband and me! We were STARVING after the long drive from the Chicago burbs so right away ordered the Scotch Egg, I had a tequila mule (too much beer last night for me) and husband had an Oktoberfest from local only brewery Industry. That Egg was friggin' amazing! Perfectly cooked, silky yolk and delish condiments! My Mule was equally amazing as was the beer. Now on to the entrees! I had the Havana Bistec con Queso: wow! So delicious medium cooked steak, delicious seasoning and a pressed bun done to perfection! My guy had the Schnitzel sandwich. It was an LOL moment as we saw the meat to bun ratio! OMG this was epic AND delicious! I had the fries with a side of their ranch (which was a basil ranch- amazing) Long story longer...def recommend, def coming back!! Our server Trevor was adorable and our bartender John was top notch!! This was WAY BETTER than the Pub II trips at ISU with our other two kids! LOL! read more

Lovely staff, excellent food, pricey but worth it, convivial atmosphere, almost ready to claim this as the perfect package, and I'm presented with a $3 credit card charge. My bill was $77 for two meals with one alcoholic drink and no dessert or coffee. $3 to use my credit card? It is such a downer after having a very nice experience otherwise. read more

Reeeeallly impressed with my visit here. The parking situation is tricky if you're not familiar with the location. Take your time and trust the process. Our waitress was exceptional and the food was great! The menu was a great mix of entrees with more than one vegetarian option. I wish more restaurants in southern Illinois had menus as eclectic as this place. The place really cares about their ingredients, you can tell. It was well worth the visit. Called ahead for a reservation and was met with wonderful customer service. That continued upon arrival with the polished staff ready to seat our party. My jaw dropped experiencing the atmosphere of jazz music, professional barkeep, and wall to wall of smiling faces as another flaming cocktail was prepared. The menu's full of culturally expressive offerings and I struggled to choose with the excitement of what was to come. Ultimately landing on Thee P.B.R. with the upgraded Poutine fries I made a great choice. Rich, crisp, spiced and everything nice. The Underground Public House is a treat to the residents of Carbondale. So get dressed up, hold the door, pull the chair, pay the bill and do it soon. You'll be glad you did. read more
